The ability to regulate emotions is a critical component of healthy emotional functioning. Therefore, it is important to determine factors that contribute to the efficacy of emotion regulation. The present article examined whether the ability to update emotional information in working memory is a predictor of the efficacy of rumination and reappraisal on affective experience both at the trait level (Study 1) and in daily life (Study 2). In both studies, results revealed that the relationship between use of reappraisal and high arousal negative emotions was moderated by updating ability. Specifically, use of reappraisal was associated with decreased high arousal negative emotions for participants with high updating ability, while no significant relationship was found for those with low updating ability. In addition, both studies also revealed that the relationship between rumination and high arousal negative emotions was moderated by updating ability. In general, use of rumination was associated with elevated high arousal negative emotions. However, this relationship was blunted for participants with high updating ability. That is, use of rumination was associated with less elevated high arousal negative emotions for participants with high updating ability. These results identify the ability to update emotional information in working memory as a crucial process modulating the efficacy of emotion regulation efforts.  相似文献

This paper presents data from the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies with a focus on the interrelationships among health information seeking behavior (HISB), and health status or use of preventive health measures for U.S. adults both with and without a high school diploma. Key results of ordinal and binary logistic regression analyses indicated that, after controlling for demographic factors, (1) adults with a high school diploma use more text-based health information sources while adults without a high school diploma use more oral sources, (2) using the Internet as a source of health information is more strongly related to reporting excellent/very good health status than having a high school diploma, (3) those without a high school diploma who use the Internet report the largest increase in health status over any other health information source, and (4) for those with learning disability or vision problem, a high facility in reading English is an important predictor of whether the Internet is used as a health information source. The Internet appears to play a key role in both enhancing health status and enabling use of preventive measures for those with and without a high school diploma; although, individuals without a high school diploma who use the Internet for health information derive substantial benefit in health status.  相似文献

A very long neck that is apparently suitable for feeding at great heights is a characteristic feature of most sauropod dinosaurs. Yet, it remains controversial whether any sauropods actually raised their necks high. Recently, strong physiological arguments have been put forward against the idea of high-browsing sauropods, because of the very high blood pressure that appears to be inevitable when the head is located several metres above the heart. For the sauropod Euhelopus zdanskyi, however, biomechanical evidence clearly indicates high browsing. Energy expenditure owing to high browsing is compared with energy costs for walking a distance. It is demonstrated for Euhelopus as well as for the much larger Brachiosaurus that despite an increase in the metabolic rate, high browsing was worthwhile for a sauropod if resources were far apart.  相似文献

A new procedure for the isolation of high mobility group proteins from chromatin is described. The method utilizes ammonium sulfate for both extraction and selective precipitation of the HMG proteins. It is rapid, simple, and provides high yields. Effects of differences in mineralization on the mechanical properties of bone   总被引:21,自引:0,他引:21  
There is a considerable variation in the mineralization of bone; normal, non-pathological compact bone has ash masses ranging from 45 to 85% by mass. This range of mineralization results in an even greater range of mechanical properties. The Young modulus of elasticity can range from 4 to 32 GPa, bending strength from 50 to 300 MPa, and the work of fracture from 200 to 7000 Jm-2. It is not possible for any one type of bone to have high values for all three properties. Very high values of mineralization produce high values of Young modulus but low values of work of fracture (which is a measure of fracture toughness). Rather low values of mineralization are associated with high values of work of fracture but low values of Young modulus and intermediate values of bending strength. The reason for the high value for the Young modulus associated with high mineralization is intuitively obvious, but has not yet been rigorously modelled. The low fracture toughness associated with high mineralization may be caused by the failure of various crack-stopping mechanisms that can act when the mineral crystals in bone have not coalesced, but which become ineffective when the volume fraction of mineral becomes too high. The adoption of different degrees of mineralization by different bones, leading to different sets of mechanical properties, is shown to be adaptive in most cases studied, but some puzzles still remain.  相似文献

Two types with regard to adaptation to different light intensities are described: tbe Chlorella type and the Cyclotella type. The Chlorella type is mostly found among the green algae, the Cyclotella type among the diatoms. The Chlorella type adapts to a new light intensity mainly by changing the pigment content. Therefore the cells adapted to a high light intensity have a lower chlorophyll a content per cell than cells adapted to a low light intensity. Light saturation is mostly rather low for cells adapted to low light intensities. The light-saturated rate of photosynthesisist mostly lower for cells adapted to a high light intensity than for cells adapted to a low light intensity. The actual photosynthesis is not much higher at a high light intensity than at a low one. The actual photosynthesis is the photosynthesis at the light intensity where the cells are grown. - The Cyclotella type adapts only by changing the light-saturated rate. The chlorophyll content is the same in cells grown at low and high light intensities. Light saturation for cells grown at a low light intensity is rather high. The light-saturated rate is much higher in the case examined at the high light intensity than at the low one. The actual photosynthesis is considerably higher for cells grown at the high light intensities than for cells grown at low light intensities.- The two adaptation types are not sharply separated since transition types occur.  相似文献

Sodium‐ion capacitors (SICs) can effectively combine high energy density with high power density, and are especially appropriate for high‐power demanding applications of large‐scale stationary energy storage. Surface‐induced pseudocapacitive charge storage based on porous or nano carbon materials is regarded as the most promising candidate for SICs. Unfortunately, their ultralow packing densities severely restrict their practical applications. A novel approach toward ultrafast high‐volumetric SICs based on folded‐graphene electrodes has already been demonstrated and showed quite competitive performance. In this work, it is further proved that oxygen functional groups and folded texture are two key elements for high‐volumetric sodium storage of folded‐graphene electrodes. Through a simple and controllable method, of thermal treatment in inert atmosphere, both the oxygen functional groups and folded texture can be quantitatively manipulated to better investigate the individual contribution and mutual interplay. It is illustrated that oxygen functional groups are crucial to superior capacitive sodium storage while folded texture is not only the origin for high‐volumetric sodium storage but also beneficial for both capacitive and additional diffusion‐controlled sodium storage. Inspired by above‐mentioned conclusion, more rational designs and effective preparation of advanced structure and novel materials can be realized to better promote the development of high‐volumetric SICs.  相似文献

Interspecific competition in natural plant communities is highly dependent on nutrient availability. At high levels of nutrient availability, competition is mainly for light. As light is a unidirectional resource, high nutrient habitats are dominated by fast-growing perennials with a tall stature and a rather uniform vertical distribution of leaf area. Moreover, these species have high turnover rates of leaves and roots and a high morphological plasticity during the differentiation of leaves. There is less consensus, however, about the importance and intensity of interspecific competition in nutrient-poor environments. It is argued that selection in nutrient-poor habitats is not necessarily on a high competitive ability for nutrients and a high growth rate, but rather on traits which reduce nutrient losses (low tissue nutrient concentrations, slow tissue turnover rates, high nutrient resorption efficiency). Due to evolutionary trade-offs plants can not maximize both growth rate and nutrient retention. Thus, the low growth rate of species from nutrient-poor habitats should be considered as the consequence of nutrient retention rather than as a feature on which direct selection takes place. The contrasting traits of species from nutrient-poor and nutrient-rich habitats mutually exclude them from each others' habitats. Moreover, these traits have severe consequences for litter decomposability and thereby also for nutrient cycling. This leads both in nutrient-poor and nutrient-rich habitats to a positive feedback between plant species dominance and nutrient availability, thereby promoting ecosystem stability.  相似文献

A system to study the basis of high temperature-induced floral bud abortion using naturally occurring variation for heat-tolerance of floral development among Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. wild-collected accessions is described. High temperature-induced floral bud abortion was dependent on both temperature and duration of exposure. Normalizing high temperature exposures to degree-hours (°C-h) above 33 °C indicated that abortion of flower buds increased as exposure increased between 200 and 300 °C-h above 33 °C and exposures > 300 °C-h above 33 °C resulted in abortion of the entire primary inflorescence. Thirteen wild-collected Arabidopsis accessions representing a latitudinal gradient were screened for variation in high temperature-induced floral bud abortion, and Col-0 and No-0 were selected as models for heat-tolerance and -sensitivity for flower development, respectively. No-0 flower buds were heat-sensitive across a wider range of developmental stages (stages 9–12, compared to stage 12 for Col-0 flower buds). Exposing the inflorescence alone to high temperature was sufficient to induce floral bud abortion, and Col-0 and No-0 photosynthetic rates were similar during high temperature exposure and recovery, indicating that high temperature induced floral abortion is not simply due to reductions in carbon assimilation under high temperatures. Determining that exposing floral buds alone to high temperature is sufficient to induce abortion and identifying the stages of floral development sensitive to high temperature-induced abortion will aid in identifying the developmental events subject to disruption under high temperatures.  相似文献

Synaptosomes isolated from adult or newborn rat cerebrum take up L-lysine by two saturable systems, one with a high affinity low capacity and the other with a low affinity high capacity. Initial rate of uptake for low lysine concentrations is mort tissue. Analysis of kinetic data indicates that synaptosomes of the newborn have a higher Vmax than those of the adult for high affinity system but adult for high affinity system but adult synaptosomes have a higher Vmax than newborn for low affinity system. At a physiological lysine concentration of 0.5 mM, the calculated contributions of two systems indicate that the adult uptake occurs for about 71% by low affinity system but the newborn utilizes both systems to the same extent. The uptake is sodium independent but pH dependent. Lysine uptake is inhibited by other dibasic amino acids, arginine and ornithine but not cystine. Kinetic analysis indicates that arginine specifically inhibits the high affinity, low Km system for lysine uptake.  相似文献

Enantiopure epoxides are high value-added synthons for the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, as well as versatile fine chemicals and have broad scope of market demand for their applications. A major challenge in conventional organic synthesis is to generate such compounds in high enantiopurity with reasonable yield. Among possible chemical and biological technologies for enantiopure epoxide preparation, enzymatic kinetic resolution has been paid much attention with respect to its high enantioselectivity. Epoxide hydrolase (EH) has shown promising characteristics for the preparation of enantiopure epoxides and vicinal diols during enantioselective hydrolysis of racemic epoxides. EH is readily available from microbial resources thus it is being employed for biohydrolysis of a variety of epoxides. Recent technical progress in EH-catalyzed enantioselective hydrolysis is summarized in terms of exploration of novel EH, its functional improvement, high throughput assay, and preparative scale resolution process.  相似文献

Halophilic enzymes, while performing identical enzymatic functions as their non-halophilic counterparts, have been shown to exhibit substantially different properties, among them the requirement for high salt concentrations, in the 1-4 M range, for activity and stability, and a high excess of acidic over basic amino residues. The following communication reviews the functional and structural properties of two proteins isolated from the extremely halophilic archaeon Haloarcula marismortui: the enzyme malate-dehydrogenase (hMDH) and the 2Fe-2S protein ferredoxin. It is argued that the high negative surface charge of halophilic proteins makes them more soluble and renders them more flexible at high salt concentrations, conditions under which non-halophilic proteins tend to aggregate and become rigid. This high surface charge is neutralized mainly by tightly bound water dipoles. The requirement of high salt concentration for the stabilization of halophilic enzymes, on the other hand, is due to a low affinity binding of the salt to specific sites on the surface of the folded polypeptide, thus stabilizing the active conformation of the protein.  相似文献

目的将全新的光电耦合高电压强电流放大处理技术用于CT机的前置放大处理中,隔离噪声和高电压大电流放大图像信号,实现超低剂量扫描,高清晰成像。方法将光电耦合放大器制作成射线剂量仪,并用CT机等超低剂量120KV、3-6mA…对其曝光,并与标准射线剂量仪校准,使其输出值不仅为射线剂量值,更能显示为高电压和大电流的优质图像信噪比。结果超小电流扫描经探测和光耦放大后最大值为87.5V和0.96A,而噪声电压为0.13μV、电流仅为0.02μA,给超低剂量扫描和传输处理时的功耗及高电压的宽动态范围显示留了很大空间。结论 CT超低剂量扫描时光耦放大器可在源头彻底隔离各种噪声并超高倍放大、高电压大电流输出图像信号,可保证高清晰高分辨率成像。  相似文献

Inulin-type fructans are the simplest and most studied fructans and have become increasingly popular as prebiotic health-improving compounds. A natural variation in the degree of polymerization (DP) of inulins is observed within the family of the Asteraceae. Globe thistle (Echinops ritro), artichoke (Cynara scolymus), and Viguiera discolor biosynthesize fructans with a considerably higher DP than Cichorium intybus (chicory), Helianthus tuberosus (Jerusalem artichoke), and Dahlia variabilis. The higher DP in some species can be explained by the presence of special fructan:fructan 1-fructosyl transferases (high DP 1-FFTs), different from the classical low DP 1-FFTs. Here, the RT-PCR-based cloning of a high DP 1-FFT cDNA from Echinops ritro is described, starting from peptide sequence information derived from the purified native high DP 1-FFT enzyme. The cDNA was successfully expressed in Pichia pastoris. A comparison is made between the mass fingerprints of the native, heterodimeric enzyme and its recombinant, monomeric counterpart (mass fingerprints and kinetical analysis) showing that they have very similar properties. The recombinant enzyme is a functional 1-FFT lacking invertase and 1-SST activities, but shows a small intrinsic 1-FEH activity. The enzyme is capable of producing a high DP inulin pattern in vitro, similar to the one observed in vivo. Depending on conditions, the enzyme is able to produce fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) as well. Therefore, the enzyme might be suitable for both FOS and high DP inulin production in bioreactors. Alternatively, introduction of the high DP 1-FFT gene in chicory, a crop widely used for inulin extraction, could lead to an increase in DP which is useful for a number of specific industrial applications. 1-FFT expression analysis correlates well with high DP fructan accumulation in vivo, suggesting that the enzyme is responsible for high DP fructan formation in planta.  相似文献

为西北荒漠灌区高产、优质紫花苜蓿新品种的选育提供基础材料。以甘农3号、甘农5号、游客为亲本进行多元杂交,选择了16个优良株系为研究材料,通过大田比较试验,对其干草产量和粗蛋白质(CP)、中性洗涤纤维(NDF)和酸性洗涤纤维(ADF)3个饲用品质性状进行评价分析。结果表明,16个苜蓿株系的干草为西北荒漠灌区高产、优质紫花苜蓿新品种的选育提供基础材料。以甘农3号、甘农5号、游客为亲本进行多元杂交,选择了16个优良株系为研究材料,通过大田比较试验,对其干草产量和粗蛋白质(CP)、中性洗涤纤维(NDF)和酸性洗涤纤维(ADF)3个饲用品质性状进行评价分析。结果表明,16个苜蓿株系的干草产量和营养品质性状均存在一定变异,干草产量性状变异最大,为23.80%;酸性洗涤纤维性状变异最小,为6.00%。单个性状比较发现,白花1#为高产株系,干草产量为22.72t/hm2;速生4 #为高蛋白株系,CP含量为22.74%;白花3#为低纤维株系,NDF和ADF含量分别为37.85%和31.17%。从单个性状考虑,白花1#可能为高产材料,速生4#可能为高蛋白材料,白花3#可能为低纤维材料,这三个株系的优良特性是否稳定遗传,尚需参与下一步的继代检测。合并4个指标的聚类分析结果并运用灰色关联度理论,综合产量和各营养品质性状,初步筛选出速生4 #和白花3#为高产高蛋白及低纤维材料,速生12 #为高产高蛋白材料,速生1 #和白花1#为高产中蛋白材料,速生15 #为高产低纤维材料,白花2#为中产高蛋白材料,以上材料通过进一步的继代筛选后可作为优良苜蓿育种材料。  相似文献

The rates of utilization of both glucose and glutamine are high in rapidly dividing ceils such as enterocytes, lymphocytes, thymocytes, tumour cells; the oxidation of both glucose and glutamine is only partial, glucose to lactate and glutamine to glutamate , alanine or aspartate ; and these partial processes are termed glycolysis and glutaminolysis respectively . Both processes generate energy and also provide precursors for important biosynthetic processes in such cells. However, the rates of utilization of precursors for macromolecular biosynthesis are very low in comparison to the rates oi partial oxidation, and energy generation per se may not be the correct explanation for high rates of glycolysis and glutaminolysis in these cells since oxidation is only partial and other fuels can be used to generate energy. Both the high fluxes and the metabolic characteristics of these two processes can be explained by application of quantitative principles of control as applied to branched metabolic pathway s (Crabtree & Newsholme, 1985). If the flux through one branch is greatly in excess of the other, then the sensitivity of the flux of the low-flux pathway to regulators is very high. Hence, it is suggested that, in rapidly dividing ceils, high rates of glycolysis and gtutaminolysis are required not for energy or precursor provision per se but for high sensitivity of the pathways involved in the use of precursors for macromolecular synthesis to specific regulators to permithigh rates of proliferation when required for example, in lymphocytes in response to a massive infection.  相似文献

Six models for determining air temperatures for thermal comfort of people using sleeping bags were reviewed. These models were based on distinctive metabolic rates and mean skin temperatures. All model predictions of air temperatures are low when the insulation values of the sleeping bag are high. Nevertheless, prediction variations are greatest for the sleeping bags with high insulation values, and there is a high risk of hypothermia if an inappropriate sleeping bag is chosen for the intended conditions of use. There is, therefore, a pressing need to validate the models by wear trial and determine which one best reflects ordinary consumer needs.  相似文献

An overview of fast charging materials for high power applications is given. The behavior at high current density of several anodic and cathodic materials that have been utilized in lithium‐, sodium‐, and potassium‐ion batteries is considered. Furthermore, the behavior of capacitive and pseudocapacitive materials suitable for electrochemical capacitors and, also, of those that have been utilized for the realization of hybrid‐ion capacitors, which are nowadays an interesting reality in the field of high power devices, is discussed. The advantages and limitations of all these materials are critically analyzed with the aim of understanding their impact on real devices. On the basis of this analysis, the most important aspects are identified, which should be addressed in the future for the realization of advanced high power devices.  相似文献

The limiting factor in RNA synthesis by isolated kidney nuclei is RNA nucleotidyltransferase at high salt concentrations but at low salt concentrations template availability becomes limiting. alpha-Amanitin inhibits 85% of the activity at high salt concentrations but only 20-50% of the activity at low salt concentrations. Exogenous DNA is utilized at low salt concentrations [up to 0-1M (NH4)2SO4] but not at high salt concentrations. The effect of increasing salt concentration is mainly to cause an increase in the length of chains synthesized. Initiation rates are not increased by high salt concentrations. The apparent Km for UTP is 8-10 muM at high salt concentrations, indicating that assays performed at low UTP concentrations are likely to give inaccurate results. The activation energy for the reaction at low salt concentration is less than that for the reaction at high salt concentration. The RNA synthesizing capacity of kidney nuclei is dependent on the method of isolation, and preparation by a modification of the Chauveau method (Chauveau et al. 1956) yields the most active nuclei.  相似文献
