Importance of several weed species has been considerably increased during the last few decades in Hungary. Velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti Medic.) belongs to this spreading weed group as well. This weed species was in the 27th position in the course of the fourth Hungarian weed survey, but at the time of the fifth weed survey in 2007-2008 it stepped forward to the 10th position in the cornfields of Zala County. Requiring a warm climate, global climate warming plays a significant role in its rapid spread. Moreover, its effective reproduction strategy supports its occurrence and continuous spread in almost all field crops. Protection against velvetleaf can only be successful, if we know its biological and ecological characteristics. Comprehensive knowledge of the plant and selection of a proper application of weed control methods together can result velvetleaf free crop fields. The experiment was set up on the 29th of April 2009 at Keszthely where fifty seeds were sown into 50 litres volume plastic pots, in four replications with fifty pieces of seed per each plot. Germination percent of velvetleaf seeds and several growth indexes of seedlings (stem- and root length, leaf area, number of leaves, stem- and root fresh and dry weight) were measured on three different sampling dates. 相似文献

Velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti Medicus 1787) is one of the most economically threatening weed plant in Hungary. Researching biological control against it, and identifying a possible and effective biocontrol agent is an important challenge, as chemical control is difficult and expensive, and there is an increasing claim to practice slight plant protection. Entomological studies were made in several parts of the world, for evaluating the species, occuring in velvetleaf, but none of these kind of experiments were assessed in Hungary. Our observations were made in field and plastic boxes, both under open field circumstances in 2008 and 2009 by visually assessing pests, netting and damage based identifying. Meanwhile 8 pest species were identified, including (Helix pomatia Linnaeus 1758--roman snale; Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood 1856)--greenhouse whitefly; Oxycarenus lavaterae (Fabricius 1787)-- lime seed bug; Pyrrhocoris apterus (Linnaeus 1758)--fire bug; Rhopalus parumpunctatus Schilling 1829--common hyaline bug; Liorhyssus hyalinus--hyaline grass bug (Fabricius 1794); Mamestra brassicae (Linnaeus 1758)--cabbage moth; Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner 1808)--corn earworm). On the whole the literature datas were enlarged with four new velvetleaf pests (roman scale, lime seed bug, common hyaline bug, cabbage moth). Considering the earlier literature and our results, Liorhyssus hyalinus may play an important role on biological management of velvetleaf. However this pest considered as polyphagous, but discovered to occur in great numbers on velvetleaf, this points to the fact that can be its main host plant and by sucking on the plant, can cause decreased germination rate. We suggest the "hyaline velvetleaf bug" name istead of "hyaline grass bug". Of course, additional experiments are needed on this pest to may use safety and effectively in the future. 相似文献

Abstract Intact seeds and seed and seedling root exudates of velvetleaf ( Abutilon theophrasti Medik.) were used as chemoattractants in experiments to determine the relative importance of chemotaxis in spermosphere and rhizosphere colonization by selected rhizobacteria. Results for soft-agar, capillary tube and soil chemotaxis assays indicated that selected deleterious rhizobacteria were specifically attracted to seed and seedling root exudates. Several amino acids and sugars detected in exudates were chemoattractants for these rhizobacteria. Using soil-chemotaxis assemblies, migration of rhizobacterial isolates through 2-cm distances of soil toward velvetleaf seeds or exudates was detected within 24 h. Isolates were not detected at the same site in soils without seeds or exudates until 72 h after inoculation. These results suggest that attraction of delecterious rhizobacteria toward seeds and seedling roots mediated by exudates (chemotaxis) might be the first step in establishment and subsequent colonization of biological control bacteria on weed seeds and seedling roots in soil. 相似文献

Effects of methazole [2-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazolidine-3,5-dione] and of its plant degradation products, DCPMU [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1-methylurea] and DCPU [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)urea], on photosynthesis, protein synthesis, ribonucleic acid (RNA) synthesis, and lipid synthesis of enzymatically isolated leaf cells of velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti Medic) were compared. Photosynthesis and protein, RNA, and lipid synthesis were assayed by the incorporation of NaH14CO3, [14C]-leucine, [14C]-uracil, and [14C]-acetate, respectively, into the isolated cells. Time-course and concentration studies included incubation times of 30, 60, and 120 min and concentrations of 0.1, 1, 10, and 100 μM of all three chemicals. DCPMU was a more potent inhibitor of the four metabolic processes examined than either the parent herbicide methazole or DCPU. The sensitivity of the four metabolic processes to DCPMU decreased in the order: photosynthesis>lipid>RNA >protein synthesis. Inhibition of all metabolic processes by methazole was time-dependent, increasing in magnitude with concomitant increases in incubation time. It is probable that the observed effects of methazole were caused by DCPMU, formed through metabolism of methazole by the isolated leaf cells of velvetleaf rather than by methazole itself. DCPU was less active than the parent herbicide methazole and DCPMU and seems to be a terminal metabolite of methazole with limited phytotoxicity. We examined in the field the effect of the vesicular-arbuscular (VA) mycorhizal symbiosis on the reproductive success of Abutilon theophrasti Medic., an early successional annual member of the Malvaceae. Mycorrhizal infection greatly enhanced vegetative growth, and flower, fruit and seed production, resulting in significantly greater recruitment the following year. In addition, the seeds produced by mycorrhizal plants were significantly larger and contained significantly more phosphorus than seeds from non-mycorrhizal plants, an effect which may improve offspring vigor. Infection by mycorrhizal fungi may thus contribute to the overall fitness of a host plant and strongly influence long-term plant population dynamics. 相似文献

A comparison of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequences was carried out between the crop and weed types of Abutilon theophrasti to clarify the seed source of the present weedy velvetleaf in Japan. A sequencing analysis of approx. 6% of the chloroplast genome (ca 10 kbp) detected three nucleotide substitutions, one six-base-pair insertion/deletion (indel) and one 30-base pair inversion, which distinguish two haplotypes of cpDNA. A PCR-based survey of the indel and the inversion revealed that the 93 accessions of velvetleaf collected from the world could be divided into two groups. A morphological marker (capsule color) could be used to discriminate the crop type and the weed type, and hence, along with cpDNA haplotype, to distinguish three genotypes (Type I, II, and III). All Japanese cultivars and crop accessions from other countries were Type I. Weed types were divided into Type II and III. All of the samples from the USA, and the samples taken from grain imports to Japan were Type III. Since most of the weedy types distributed in Japan were of Type III, it is argued that they were introduced as seeds in the imported grain. We also found that the Type II plants sporadically occurred in Japan. It is suggested that they originated as hybrids, with indigenous cultivars as the maternal ancestor. Effect of potassium deficiency on growth and some biochemical characteristics in two lines of lentil (Lens culinaris Medic.) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effect of low potassium regimes on two lines, ILL 6796 (salt-tolcrant) and ILL 6439 (salt-sensitive), of lentil (Lens culinaris) was studied in a pot experiment under glasshouse conditions. Plants of the two lines were treated with 78, 39, 19.5, and 9.75 mg K·L−1 in Rorison’s nutrient solution. ILL 6796 excelled ILL 6439 in biomass production under varying K regimes. Of the various organic solutes measured in the present study only total soluble sugars proved to be helpful in discriminating the lines, i.e., total sugars increased consistently in ILL 6796 with a decrease in K level of the growth medium, whereas in ILL 6439 they decreased significantly with a decrease in K levels. ILL 6796 showing high efficiency for K utilisation (high shoot growth) could be of great economic value in terms of its use in soils deficient in K. 相似文献

Summary Groundnut (TMV-2) seeds treated with 25 ppm boron solution germinated more quickly than the seeds supplied with deionized water. The borontreated seedlings also elongated rapidly in the initial phase of the growth even though all their different organs contained excess boron contents (with chlorosis in the leaves) than those of the control seedlings. However, the accentuation in the growth of treated seedlings was proceeded only upto a certain period (12 days after treatment); but further stimulation in the later phase of the growth was almost inhibited with ever increasing amounts of boron in the hypocotyl, plumule and leaves (which were severely chlorotic) and even brought about a deleterious effect on the total growth at the end of 21 days when compared to the controls. 相似文献

Germination and seedling growth of rice was studied in NaCl and PEG 6000 solutions having osmotic potentials −0.2, −0.4, −0.6 and −0.8 MPa. At isoosmotic concentrations, the NaCl proved more harmful to germination, seedling growth, per cent moisture content of seedling organs as well as mobilization of food matter from seed to the growing seedlings. This fact suggested that in rice, at least in the early stage, a specific ion effect rather than osmotic effect is the prime cause of salt injury. Summary Germination experiments were carried out with varying but equivalent amounts of NH4Cl, (NH4)2SO4, and NH4NO3, while in one experiment urea was included. It could be stated that the inhibitory effect on germination was ionic in nature, the effect of urea being rather small, while it was safer to use NH4Cl or (NH4)2SO4 than NH4NO3, especially under dry conditions. 相似文献

Lead (Pb) is an environmental pollutant extremely toxic to plants and other living organisms including humans. To assess Pb phytotoxicity, experiments focusing on germination of wheat seeds were germinated in a solution containing Pb (NO(3))(2) (0.05; 0.1; 0.5; 1g/L) during 6 days. Lead accumulation in seedlings was positively correlated with the external concentrations, and negatively correlated with morphological parameters of plant growth. Lead increased lipid peroxidation, enhanced soluble protein concentrations and induced a significant accumulation of proline in roots. Esterase activity was enhanced in the presence of lead, whereas α-amylase activity was significantly inhibited. Antioxidant enzymes activities, such as, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione S-transferase were generally significantly increased in the presence of lead in a dose-dependent manner. The present results thus provide a model system to screen for natural compounds able to counteract the deleterious effects of lead. 相似文献

Factorial combinations of three photoperiods (10, 13 and 16h), two day temperatures (18 and 28 C) and two night temperatures(5 and 13 C) were imposed on nodulated plants of six diversegenotypes (cultivars and land-races) of lentil (Lens culinarisMedic.) grown in pots in growth cabinets from vernalized (1.50.5 C for 30d) or non-vernalized seeds (i.e. 144 treatmentcombinations). The absorption, translocation, and metabolism of thifensulfuron-methyl {methyl 3-[[[[(4-methoxy)-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl]-amino]-carbonyl] amino]sulfonyl]-2-thiophenecarboxylate} were investigated in tolerant Essex soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], moderately tolerant Vance soybean, and spurred anoda [Anoda cristata (L.) Schlecht.], and susceptible velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti Medic.). Radiolabeled (thiophene-2-14C) thifensulfuron-methyl was absorbed readily by young seedlings of all species following a foliar spray with the herbicide. Spot-applied 14C-thifensulfuron-methyl was absorbed by the treated leaf of all species. Absorption of thifensulfuron-methyl was limited when excised stems of all species were dipped into the herbicide solution for 2 h. Translocation of absorbed thifensulfuron-methyl to other plant parts was limited in all species, regardless of the method of its application. Root exudation of leaf-applied thifensulfuron-methyl was observed in all species and it was higher in seedlings of spurred anoda and velvetleaf. The two soybean cultivars metabolized 62–70% of absorbed thifensulfuron-methyl at 3 days after treatment with spot-applied 14C-thifensulfuron. Velvetleaf and tolerant spurred anoda metabolized about 50% of the absorbed herbicide. The major metabolite formed in all species appeared to be deesterified thifensulfuron acid. Differential metabolism seems to be a contributing factor in the selectivity of thifensulfuron-methyl between the two soybean cultivars and velvetleaf.
