A biosensor is a device which consists of a biological sensing element connected to a transducer. The transducer can be electronic, optical, electrical, etc. This emerging technology offers us a powerful tool which is radically altering our approach to analytical methods. It was realised that enzymes are natural sensors on account of their highly selective nature. Much of the impetus to the work has come from medical requirements. Instant analysis of clinical samples has an obvious appeal to physicians and patients alike. Of particular interest is the possibility of continuous 'in-vivo' monitoring of metabolites, drugs and proteins using miniature, portable systems. In recent years, there has been a growing demand for biosensors in the fields of veterinary science, animal husbandry, the food industry and environmental monitoring. However, the possibility of successful application rests upon future developments. Increasing attention will have to be paid to the engineering of both the basic components and the device on the whole. New biochemical reactions will either have to be discovered or engineered through genetic manipulation or chemical techniques. Optimization of response time, selectivity, stability and low costs should receive priority considerations.  相似文献

Two decades of research into biosensors has been accelerated recently by the commercial potential offered by biotechnology. New developments in biosensor technology in which a biologically sensitive material is immobilized in intimate contact with a suitable potentiometric, amperometric, optical or other transducer are described. Biosensors     
Biosensors are analytical devices that respond selectively to analytes in an appropriate sample and convert their concentration into an electrical signal via a combination of a biological recognition system and an electrochemical, optical or other transducer. Such devices will find application in medicine, agriculture, environmental monitoring and the bioprocessing industries. The last few years have seen great advances in the design of sensor architectures, the marriage of biological systems with monolithic silicon and optical technologies, the development of effective electron-transfer systems and the configuration of direct immunosensors. Recent progress in these areas has already led to the introduction of new-generation biosensors into the competitive diagnostics market place.  相似文献

Combining flow injection analysis with a biosensor is a novel biosensing process which has allowed speedy and accurate analysis. Diagnostic analysis is the most important application for biosensing flow injection analysis, but other applications include bioprocess monitoring, analysis of food and agricultural products, as well as environmental analysis. In addition, the analysis of compounds, such as explosives and abused drugs, and monitoring of Salmonella, the microorganism that causes food poisoning, have been reported.  相似文献

We propose a novel class of biosensors based on membrane bound receptors or transport proteins as the sensing element. The protein is incorporated in a planar lipid bilayer which covers the transducer. The transducer may detect an electric current, a voltage, or a change in fluorescence. A prototype lactose sensor is presented which consists of a quartz slide covered by a lipid membrane containing the protein lactose permease from Escherichia coli. This protein is a lactose/H+ cotransporter, hence lactose in the external medium initiates lactose/H+ cotransport across the lipid membrane. This leads to a rise in proton concentration in the small volume between the lipid membrane and the quartz surface which can be detected by a pH-sensitive fluorescence dye.  相似文献

A review of the use of biosensors for the determination of drug substances is presented. Although primary emphasis is placed on drugs of abuse, for example, cocaine, heroine, and morphine, other pharmaceutically important drugs, such as theophylline, Inderal, codeine, lidocaine, and the phenothiazines, are also discussed.
