Notes on neotropical vaccinieae (Ericaceae) VII. Novelties from Ecuador

Four new Ericaceae are described from the Andes of Ecuador:Cavendishia lebroniae,Ceratostema megabracteatum,Orthaea fimbriata, andSphyrospermum boekei.     

Notes on neotropical Vaccinieae (Ericaceae). VIII. New species of Cavendishia from northwestern South America

Recent field collecting in northwestern South America has resulted in the discovery of numerous new Ericaceae. Twelve new species ofCavendishia are herein described. Line drawings and SEM micrographs are included to illustrate certain taxonomically important features.     

New species of Ericaceae (Vaccinieae) from the Andes of Bolivia and Peru

Eight new Ericaceae (Vaccinieae) from Bolivia and Peru are described, illustrated, and discussed: Orthaea madidiensis, Themistoclesia geniculata, Themistoclesia idiocalyx, Themistoclesia siranensis, Themistoclesia tunquiniensis, Themistoclesia woytkowskii, Thibaudia acacioides, and Thibaudia yungensis.     

Redefinition of the neotropical genus Anthopterus (Ericaceae: Vaccinieae), including one new species

The taxonomic history of Anthopterus as it relates to Themistoclesia is briefly reviewed. Anthopterus is redefined to include several species formerly placed in Themistoclesia. Two subgenera are established within Anthopterus. Anthopterus costaricensis Luteyn is described as new, and the new combination Anthopterus pterotus (A. C. Sm.) Luteyn is made. A key to the genus, a list of the species currently accepted, and brief notes on distribution and frequency are provided. Most species of Anthopterus are rare and their habitats are endangered.     

New species of Aristolochia (Aristolochiaceae) from Peru

Aristolochia fosteri is a new species with unusual branched trichomes collected in Pasco near Oxapampa.Aristolochia hutchisonii is a prostrate species found in Amazonas and Cajamarca that is related toA. weberbaueri.Aristolochia barbouri is a narrow-leaved, herbaceous liana from Madre de Dios.     

Studies in neotropical Piperaceae. II. Four new species and a new combination from Colombia and Peru

Peperomia boekei, an endemic from Peru, andPeperomia antioquiensis, Piper perpusillum, andPiper valdivianum, all known only from the Department of Antioquia (Colombia), are described and illustrated, and their relationships are discussed. A new combination,Piper enckeaespicum (Trel. & Yuncker) Callejas, is proposed.     

New spies and new combinations in Aphelandra (Acanthaceae) from Ecuador and adjacent Peru

Nine new species and a new variety are described: Aphelandra villonacensis from prov. Loja, A. anderssonii from Loja, A. azuayensis from Azuay, A. rumbecensis from Tumbes, Peru, A. zamorensis from Zamora-Chinchipe, A. loxensis from Loja, A. neillii from Zamora-Chinchipe, A. rosulata var. albinotata from Morona-Santiago, A. albinotata from Esmeraldas, and A. mollissima from San Martin, Peru. The new taxa are described, illustrated, and compared with their closest relatives. Two new combinations are made: Aphelandra modesta and A. rosulata .     

New species of llerasia (Asteraceae: Astereae) from Peru

Two new species from Peru,Llerasia pascoensis Sagást. & Dillon andLl. sanmartinensis Sagást. & Dillon are described and illustrated, and their relationships discussed. A key to the Peruvian species ofLlerasia is presented. Also, a notable range extension into northern Peru is reported forLl. lindenii Triana, a species previously known only from Colombia and Ecuador.     

New species of Hiraea (Malpighiaceae) from the Guianas and adjacent Brazil

Four species of Hiraea are described and discussed:H. gracieana andH. morii from Saül, French Guiana,H. longipes from the Oyapock region of French Guiana and Amapá, Brazil, andH. propinqua from French Guiana and Suriname.Hiraea gracieana is illustrated.     

Taxonomic studies in the Miconieae (Melastomataceae). VI. Miconia santanana,a new species from Hispaniola

Miconia santanana, which occurs in broad-leaved forests along streams of pineland habitats in the Cordillera Central of the Dominican Republic, is described and illustrated. It is compared withM. ferruginea andM. adenocalyx, two presumed close relatives withinMiconia sect.Chaenopleura. Eco-geographic characterizations and a key are presented for these three species.
