A new species of penstemon (Scrophulariaceae) from southwestern Utah

Penstemon ammophilus, an endemic to Canaan Moutain in Washington Co., Utah, is described and illustrated. On the basis of anther characteristics it is placed in sectionGlabri, seriesVirgati, where it nearly links the group to sectionCristati. It is distinct from all the species of both sections with its peculiar papillose-glandular pubescence.     

A new species of Xylocalyx (Scrophulariaceae) from Somalia

Xylocalyx carteriae sp. nov. from central Somalia is described and illustrated. The hygrochasy in this species as well as in Xylocalyx in general is pointed out.     

A new species of Veronica (Scrophulariaceae) from Iran

Veronica daranica , a perennial herb growing in alpine regions of central Iran, is described and illustrated. The systematic position of this species and its closet relatives are discussed.     

A new species of Penstemon (Scrophulariaceae) from Wyoming

Two new species of Esterhazya (Scrophulariaceae) from Brazil

Brittonia 37: 195–198. 1985.—Esterhazya petiolata is a distinctive species with ovate, petiolate leaves, spreading brances, and broadly tubular-campanulate flowers. It is known from the Serra Dourada of Goiás. Esterhazya eitenorum has narrow, lanceolate leaves, acute calyx lobes, and purple-pink flowers and is known from the planalto of Mt. Itatiaia.

Two new species of Potentilla (Rosaceae) from the Intermountain Region of western U.S.A.

Two new species ofPotentilla from the Intermountain West (U.S.A.) are described and illustrated here for the first time.Potentilla cottamii is known only from the higher quartzite slopes of the Pilot Range and the Raft River Mountains of western Box Elder Co., Utah and adjacent Elko Co., Nevada in the Great Basin. It most closely resemblesP. hyparctica, P. robbinsiana, andP. frigida, which may be its closest living relatives.Potentilla angelliae is known only from one collection from a subalpine meadow on Boulder Mountain of the Aquarius Plateau in southern Utah. It most closely resemblesP. crinita, P. subjuga, andP. bicrenata, the first of which is considered to be its closest relative.     

An overlooked new species of Penstemon (Scrophulariaceae) from the Great Basin

Penstemon immanifestus, a new species from the Great Basin, is described and illustrated, and its distribution is mapped. Its relationship to other species of subgenus Penstemon, sect. Coerulei, is discussed.     

A new Spanish species of Linaria Miller (Scrophulariaceae)

Linaria arabiniana sp. nov. is described from coastal sand dunes of a very reduced area in Alicante Province (south-eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula). It is a perennial herb characterized by its 3–4-verticillate leaves, glabrous stems, large violet or rarely yellow flowers, and bicoloured usually flat seeds. Morphological characteristics and taxonomic affinities of this taxon are discussed, as are data on its ecology, phytosociology, and eventual conservation features.     

Penstemon pinorum (Scrophulariaceae), a new species from Utah

Penstemon pinorum, from the Pine Valley Mountains of southwestern Utah, is described and illustrated. It is compared morphologically and ecologically to other members of sectionCristati.     

Veronica longipedicellata (Scrophulariaceae), a new species from Iran

Veronica longipedicellata is described and illustrated as a new species from an alpine area in north of Iran. The new species is compared with its allies and a close relationship is suggested with V. siaretensis.     

Three new species of the subgenus Parapenthecia from the Oriental Region (Diptera: Drosophilidae: Apenthecia)

Three new species of the subgenus Parapenthecia of the genus Apenthecia are reported from the Oriental Region: A. (P.) heterochaeta Chen and Toda, sp. nov. from Indonesia, and A. (P.) hispida Chen and Toda, sp. nov. and A. (P.) litongi Cao and Chen, sp. nov. from south China. Interestingly, the last species lacks a very peculiar character, the swollen or scale‐like orbital setae, which are commonly seen in all other species of the genus Apenthecia. A key to all species of the subgenus Parapenthecia is provided.

A new species of Misopates Raf. (Scrophulariaceae, Antirrhineae)

Misopates pontiense sp. nov. is described from one population located in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula. It is an annual, living on charred soils. Its distinguishing characteristics include its seeds, which have a carinate dorsal face and an encircling rounded ridge with cylindrical papillae, but lack a median ridge on the ventral face. Morphological characters and taxonomic affinities are discussed.     

Penstemon debilis (Scrophulariaceae): A new species from Colorado endemic to oil shale

Penstemon debilis, collected near Parachute on Mount Callahan in western Colorado, is described and illustrated. The species is endemic to the Parachute Creek Member of the Green River Formation. Oil shale endemism is discussed and the species is compared morphologically to similar species in sectionsGlabri, Coerulei, andPenstemon.
