The paper provides data concerning the influence of the parasitic worms Aspidogaster conchicola and Bucephalus polymorphus on the rate and duration of ciliary beating of gill and leg in 7 species of Unionidae (Unio conus borysthenicus, U. tumidus falcatulus, U. rostratus rostratus, U. limosus graniger, U. pictorum ponderosus, Colletopterum piscinale falcatum, C. ponderosum rumanicum). The high level of infection of molluscs with B. polymorphus oppresses the glimmeral epithelium activity of gill and leg (by 4.2-32.3%). The weak and moderate levels of infection of molluscs with B. polymorphus do not decrease the glimmeral epithelium activity and sometimes even rise it (by 3.4-8.1%). The presence of few A. conchicola (1-3 individuals) in the organism of mollusc does not change the functioning of glimmeral epithelium.  相似文献

The analysis of literary data and own investigations of gastropod molluscs on existence of cercariae of trematodes in Belarus was carried out. 13 856 specimens of 11 species and 2 species complexes of freshwater gastropod molluscs were examined on infection with cercariae of trematodes in 2010 by the authors of this article. Total infestation was 13.1% and infection of some molluscs species varied from 0.4% (Dnieper River, Gomel region) to 66.7% (Lukomskoe reservoir, Vitebsk region). The cercariae of 90 trematode species were found. The majority (51 species) at the adult stage parasitize birds. The cercariae of 14 trematode species have medical significance.  相似文献

盾腹吸虫为寄生扁形动物中一小的类群。我国已报道7种盾腹吸虫,其中5种隶属于盾腹虫属(Aspidogastridae,Aspidogastrinae)。研究测定了在我国采集到的4种盾腹虫属吸虫的核糖体DNA转录内间隔区(ITSrDNA)序列,并分别采用邻接法和最大似然法构建分子系统发育树。结果显示,这4种盾腹吸虫的ITS-1和ITS-2序列的长度分别在728—877bp和518—645bp之间,其G+C含量分别在50.1%—52.3%和49.2%—52.2%范围内。4种盾腹吸虫的种间遗传距离在0.2%—26.9%之间,其中重庆盾腹吸虫(Aspidogaster chongqingensis)和似螺盾腹吸虫(A.limacoides)间仅为0.2%。所构建的最大似然树和邻接树具有相同的拓扑结构,均支持重庆盾腹吸虫和似螺盾腹吸虫亲缘关系最近,它们与饭岛盾腹吸虫(A.ijimai)亲缘关系较近,而与位于系统树基部的贝居盾腹吸虫(A.conchicola)关系较远。此外,对我国盾腹属种类的宿主特异性进行了讨论。  相似文献

The European bitterling, Rhodeus amarus, is a non-indigenous fish species in British fresh waters. It lays its eggs in unionid mussels which themselves are vulnerable to fouling by the non-indigenous zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha. Observations from an unmanipulated natural system showed that only 27% of zebra mussel-fouled Unio pictorum hosted bitterling, while 47% of unfouled U. pictorum hosted bitterling. We conducted a field experiment in the River Great Ouse catchment, Cambridgeshire, England in May–June 2007 and 2008 to quantify the impact of zebra mussels on bitterling load in host mussels. Zebra mussel-fouled unionids were significantly less likely to host bitterling than unfouled unionids. The number of unionids hosting bitterling did not differ significantly whether the zebra mussels fouling the unionid were alive or dead. Bitterling appeared to discriminate against zebra mussel-fouled unionids less as the 2007 breeding season advanced, potentially because preferred unfouled unionids had a higher bitterling load, and were therefore relatively lower quality hosts than at the start of the breeding season.  相似文献

Zebra Mussel Infestation of Unionid Bivalves (Unionidae) in North America   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
SYNOPSIS. In 1989, zebra mussels received national attentionin North America when they reached densities exceeding 750,000/m2in a water withdrawal facility along the shore of western LakeErie of the Laurentian Great Lakes. Although water withdrawalproblems caused by zebra mussels have been of immediate concern,ecological impacts attributed to mussels are likely to be themore important long-term issue for surface waters in North America.To date, the epizoic colonization (i.e., infestation) of unionidbivalve mollusks by zebra mussels has caused the most directand severe ecological impact. Infestation of and resulting impactscaused by zebra mussels on unionids in the Great Lakes beganin 1988. By 1990, mortality of unionids was occurring at somelocations; by 1991, extant populations of unionids in westernLake Erie were nearly extirpated; by 1992, unionid populationsin the southern half of Lake St. Clair were extirpated; by 1993,unionids in widely separated geographic areas of the Great Lakesand the Mississippi River showed high mortality due to musselinfestation. All infested unionid species in the Great Lakes(23) have become infested and exhibited mortality within twoto four years after heavy infestation began. Data indicate thatmean zebra mussel densities >5,000–6,000/m2 and infestationintensities >100-200/unionid in the presence of heavy zebramussel recruitment results in near total mortality of unionids.At present, all unionid species in rivers, streams, and akesthat sympatrically occur with zebra mussels have been infestedand, in many locations, negatively impacted by zebra mussels.We do not know the potential consequences of infestation onthe 297 unionid species found in North America, but believezebra mussels pose an immediate threat to the abundance anddiversity of unionids.  相似文献

Although molluscs feature prominently in the semi-popular and academic literature on marine biodiversity, field surveys largely ignore the small and rare species that form the majority of marine molluscan diversity. As a result of a massive effort to sample the benthic molluscs of a complex tropical coastal environment, 23,238 gastropod specimens representing 259 species of Triphoridae—a family with most adult species ranging from 2 to 10 mm—were obtained from a 45,000 hectares study area off the island of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu. Most species are represented by fewer than 20 specimens and, despite the intensity of the sampling effort, 13% of the species are unique singletons. Spatial heterogeneity was high: out of 416 sampling events, 187 contained triphorids, and 42% of the species occurred at fewer than 5 stations. Most species were small (68% below 5 mm) or very small (22% below 3 mm). A faunal turnover was documented at around 10 m, and another at around 60 m, at the onset of the “twilight zone” that is particularly difficult to sample. On the order of 70% of the species are probably new to science. When dealing with taxonomically difficult groups a morphospecies segregation approach is operationally appropriate to detect patterns of richness, rarity and spatial turn-over. Very few, if any, conservation surveys have the human and funding resources to carry out baseline surveys of the intensity that generated the results presented here. However, as species numbers are often used to promote the conservation interest of a reef, a bay or a stretch of coast, it is essential to know how the numbers were generated: absolute numbers of species are meaningless unless sampling effort and techniques, area surveyed, and size classes targeted are described. 长江中下游是我国淡水贝类资源分布最为集中的地区.由于人类活动加剧,该区域贝类受到严重威胁.为系统评估贝类物种现状,于2003年5月至2005年6月对13个典型湖泊进行了系统调查.共采集贝类69种,其中中国特有种44种.不同类型湖泊贝类的组成差别较大.通江湖泊的物种明显较丰富,尤其是适应流水生境的种类,如河螺属、短沟蜷属及蚌科的种类.大型通江湖泊鄱阳湖和洞庭湖的贝类分别有53种和57种,占总数的76.8%和82.6%.阻隔湖泊的物种较少,在4-19种之间.对67种贝类濒危等级的评价结果表明,近危及受威胁的种类占58.2%,只有37.3%的种类种群稳定.与历史资料相比,该区域贝类的多样性已明显下降,双壳类优势类群由大型的蚌类演变为小型的河蚬.分析显示,贝类资源衰退的主要原因是江湖阻隔、过度捕捞和水体污染等人为干扰.  相似文献

Epibenthic macrofauna communities (species composition and densities of the dominant species) were investigated at Taiaro Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago, 22 years after a previous survey. This small atoll is completely closed, has no permanent functional hoa, and is not affected by direct anthropogenic disturbances since it is a Biosphere Reserve. Ten species were identified in 1994 (5molluscs, 4 corals, and 1 echinoderm). With the 14 species identified in 1972 (12 molluscs, 1 coral, and 1 echinoderm), a total of 17 species (12 molluscs, 4 corals, and 1 echinoderm) has been recorded for the lagoon. There has been a shift in dominance away from the bivalve Crassostrea cucullata (in 1972) to Pinctada maculata (in 1994). A high mortality of the epibenthic macrofauna affected the central part of the lagoon shortly before1972 and reached the inner reef flat afterwards. The distance of Taiaro from sources of colonizers, its small size, and the isolation of its lagoonal waters posing a physical barrier to colonization by organisms and leading to harsh environmental conditions (e.g. very high salinities: 42.5–43 psu), are likely to be the major causes of the exceptionally low diversity observed. The food habits of the silver pomfret, Pampus argenteus (Euphrasen 1788), in Kuwait waters were investigated by examining the stomach contents of 738 specimens collected from May 1996 to April 1997. Their diet consisted of a broad spectrum of food types, but Crustacea were dominant, with copepods and their eggs constituting 39 % other non-copepod Crustacea constituted 16 %. The next major food group was Bacillariophyta (21 %), followed by Mollusca (11 %), fish scales (10 %) and, finally, fish eggs and larvae (3 %). In summer the species fed on a wider variety of food items than in winter. Copepods, other non-copepod crustaceans, and molluscs tended to occur in the stomachs in higher frequencies with an increase in P. argenteus size (up to 18.5–20.4 cm), while the bacillariophytes tended to increase in stomachs at fish sizes between 22.5–24.5 cm. Analysis of monthly variations in stomach fullness indicated that feeding intensity fluctuated throughout the year, with a low during August and September, corresponding to the spawning period.  相似文献

A total of 41 faeces and 5 vomits of the Weddell seal Leptonychotes weddelli was collected at Harmony Point, Nelson Island, South Shetland Islands, from 14 January to 1 February 1996. The diet indicated by the remains in the samples was diverse and comprised both pelagic and benthic-demersal species. Fish were the most frequent (95.7%) and numerous prey (46.2%), but molluscs were the most important by mass (65.8%). Octopods, mainly Pareledone charcoti, constituted the bulk of the diet (63.1% by mass), but the importance of the remaining molluscs was negligible. Otoliths represented 510 fish of which 491 were identified as belonging to 5 species: Gymnoscopelus nicholsi, Electrona antarctica, Lepidonotothen nudifrons, Gobionotothen gibberifrons and Nototheniops nybelini. The myctophid Gymnoscopelus nicholsi was the most important fish prey, and the contribution of benthic-demersal species was low. However, the importance of that fish was over-estimated since 96% of the specimens were obtained from the five vomits analysed. The biases associated with the faecal analysis technique are discussed. SYNOPSIS. Past reports of Synophrya, the only apostome ciliate known to harm its host, indicated that it was restricted in its distribution and in the hosts it can infect. In recent collections of decapods from the off-shore waters of North Carolina and Georgia, 30% of all specimens were infected with Synophrya. Forty-four percent of all the species collected had individuals infected with Synophrya, and 63% of all the families collected contained species that had infected individuals. There is no obvious structural or phylogenetic relationship between these families that explain why they are infected. The presence of Synophrya may be related to salinity since decapods captured in estuaries were never infected and decapods captured close to shore were only rarely infected. The salinities of these waters range from 15–35%, but the salinity of the off-shore waters where the great majority of infected specimens was found ranges only from 35–36%.  相似文献

Five species of sand eels (Ammodytidae) are regularly found in the north-east Atlantic. Some of these species (i.e. Ammodytes tobianus L. and A. marinus Raitt) are difficult to identify by morphological criteria. The aims of the study reported were (a) to reveal unambiguous genetic traits for species classification and (b) to study possible population structure of the more common species in Norwegian waters. In total more than 900 specimens were analysed for inter- and intraspecific allozyme variation. Reference samples were obtained from Scotland and Denmark. By combining the patterns at different loci, all five species could be unambiguously defined. In Norwegian waters A. marinus was found together with minor numbers of Hyperoplus lanceolatus (Le Sauvage). As expected, Gymnammodytes semisquamatus (Jourdain) and H. immaculatus (Corbin) were not found, but not finding A. tobianus in these waters was unexpected. Distribution of alleles at three polymorphic loci did not indicate any structure of A. marinus in Norwegian waters.  相似文献

The raolluscan fauna of a special habitat, the high intertidal algal turf, was studied at four stations on the island of Sao Miguel, Azores. The number of species found ranged from 13 to 23. However, a small group of only six species (the bivalve Lasaea adansoni and the gastropods Pisinna punctulum, Omalogyra atomus, Fossarus ambiguus, Skeneopsis planorbis and Alvania postrema) accounted for more than 80% of all the specimens collected. Mollusc density reached values of 20000 specimens per 100 g algal dry weight. The abundance and number of species of molluscs was comparable with those reported for algal zones lower on the Azorean shores.
Wave exposure and seasonality effects were found to be small, presumably because of the relatively mild abiotic conditions and the protective role of the turf. The algal substrata influenced the phytal molluscan community in two ways. First, the abundance of molluscs was significantly correlated with algal dry weight. Secondly, molluscan abundance and diversity were influenced by the algal composition of the turf. A rich algal composition, with several species of branched fleshy and coralline algae, was associated with a rich molluscan fauna. The dominance of coralline algae resulted in a abundant but species-poor fauna, while an almost monospecific turf of Gigartina was poor in both species and number of molluscan fauna.  相似文献

Species of Perkinsus are responsible for high mortalities of bivalve molluscs world-wide. Techniques to accurately estimate parasites in tissues are required to improve understanding of perkinsosis. This study quantifies the number and tissue distribution of Perkinsus marinus in Crassostrea virginica by modern stereology and immunohistochemistry. Mean total number of trophozoites were (mean +/- SE) 11.80 +/- 3.91 million and 11.55 +/- 3.88 million for the optical disector and optical fractionator methods, respectively. The mean empirical error between both stereological approaches was 3.8 +/- 1.0%. Trophozoites were detected intracellularly in the following tissues: intestine (30.1%), Leydig tissue (21.3%), hemocytes (14.9%), digestive gland (11.4%), gills (6.1%), connective tissues (5.7%), gonads (4.1%), palps (2.2%), muscle (1.9%), mantle connective (0.8%), pericardium (0.7%), mantle epithelium (0.1%), and heart (0.1%). The remaining 0.6% were found extracellularly. Percentages of trophozoite stages were (mean +/- SE): large, log-phase trophonts, i.e., signet rings, 97.0 +/- 1.2%; meronts, 2.0 +/- 0.9%; clusters of small, log-phase trophonts, i.e., merozoites, 1.0 +/- 0.5%. Levels of infection in hemocytes and Leydig tissue were representative of total parasite intensity. These techniques are a powerful tool to follow parasite distribution and invasion, and to further explore mechanisms of Perkinsus spp. pathogenesis in bivalves.  相似文献

The molluscan fauna of the Persian Gulf has recently been relatively well documented, yet there are few records of heterobranch sea slugs (opisthobranchs) from the Arabian parts and no report from the Iranian waters. Here we report for the first time the occurrence of one of these molluscs in the northern Persian Gulf (Bandar Abbas, Iran). Sacoglossan specimens were collected in association with the seaweed, Caulerpa sertularioides. Since morphological attributes were not adequately reliable for species identification, molecular approaches were carried out. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian Inference analysis of partial DNA sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) locus were used for DNA barcoding of large-bodied specimens of Elysia. All Persian Gulf specimens were genetically confirmed as Elysia cf. tomentosa sp. 5, one of at least five morphologically similar but genetically distinct species in the taxonomically challenging and unresolved E. tomentosa complex. This species has previously been recorded only from Australia and Thailand and our finding adds another distant point to the geographic distribution of this species.  相似文献

根据2019年全年4个航次浙江沿岸海域单船底拖网调查资料,分析了4个季节浙江沿岸海域软体动物的种类组成、优势种及资源密度分布,采用生态多样性指数、物种相似性指数(Js)、群落季节更替指数(AI)和迁移指数(MI)、丰度/生物量比较曲线(ABC曲线)分析了群落物种多样性、动态变化及其稳定性。结果表明:浙江沿岸海域全年共捕获软体动物62种,隶属于3纲, 10目, 32科。腹足纲(螺类)出现种类30种,占软体动物总种类数的48.39%;头足纲(头足类)出现种类19种,占软体动物总种类数的32.63%;双壳纲(贝类)出现种类13种,占软体动物总种类数的20.98%。软体动物群落优势种为长蛸(Octopus variabilis)、剑尖枪乌贼(Loligo edulis)、棒锥螺(Turritella bacillum)、多钩钩腕乌贼(Abralia multihamatai)和双喙耳乌贼(Sepiola birostrata),优势种的季节变化差异较大。浙江沿岸海域软体动物年平均资源密度为204.94 kg/km2,其中夏季平均资源密度为全年最高,冬...  相似文献

Invasive species represent a major threat with both direct and indirect effects on natural ecosystems, including effects on established and coevolved relationships. In a series of experiments, we examined how the interaction between two native species, a unionid mussel (Unio pictorum) and the European bitterling (Rhodeus amarus), a fish that parasitises unionids, was affected by the non-native zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha). The zebra mussel fouls hard substrates, including shells of living unionids, and its presence is often associated with a decrease in population density of native unionid mussels. Bitterling lay their eggs into live unionids and the embryos develop inside their gills. Using a range of zebra mussel densities, we demonstrated that zebra mussel fouling had a negative effect on the number of bitterling eggs inside the mussel host, with abundances of 5–10 zebra mussels (shell size 15–25 mm) per unionid critical for bitterling ability to utilise the host. In a further experiment, we found that bitterling did not discriminate between unfouled unionids and those fouled with five zebra mussels. Most ovipositions into fouled hosts, however, were unsuccessful as eggs failed to reach the unionid gills. We discuss implications of such unsuccessful ovipositions for bitterling recruitment and population dynamics.  相似文献

1. An extensive series of PONAR grabs was used to determine the distribution and abundance of unionid clams in the freshwater tidal Hudson River. 2. The five species of unionids collected were distributed very unevenly within the river. Mean river-wide density and biomass of unionids were 8.0m?2 and 6.2 g DM m?2 (shell-free)., respectively. 3. The environmental variables that we measured (water depth, distance from shore, sediment granulometry and organic content, presence or absence of macrophytes, and the chlorophyll a and particulate organic matter content of the water) explained little of the variation in abundance of unionids. 4. The distributions of the various species of clams did not differ significantly with respect to the environmental variables measured. 5. We estimate that unionids filter a significant amount of water (0.14m3 m?2 day?1, on average) in the Hudson River estuary, roughly equivalent in magnitude to downstream flushing. 6. We project that unionids will serve as a major substratum for the settlement of the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha), which is now invading the estuary. We emphasize that unionids may play important non-trophic roles in large river ecosystems.  相似文献

1. Spent shells of bivalves can provide habitat for other organisms, as well as playing important roles in biogeochemical cycles. The amount of spent shell material that will accumulate at a site depends on rates of both shell production and decay, although the latter is rarely considered. 2. We measured the instantaneous decay rates of four species of freshwater bivalves across a range of sites in south‐eastern New York, and found that rates varied by more than 500‐fold across sites and species. 3. Differences in decay rates were related to water chemistry (Ca, pH, dissolved inorganic C), the presence of a current, and the size of the bivalve shell. 4. Combining these decay rates with estimates of shell production derived from the literature, we conclude that the Unionidae, Corbicula, and Dreissena are all capable of producing large accumulations (>10 kg dry mass m−2) of spent shells, while members of the Sphaeriidae probably rarely will produce such large accumulations. 5. Hence the replacement of native unionid bivalves by the alien Corbicula and Dreissena may have little effect on standing stocks of spent shells, unless the aliens invade sites where unionids are scarce or absent.  相似文献
