Recent improvements in the management of oil sand tailings used by the Canadian oil sand industry have resulted in the production of composite tailing sands (CT): a new challenging material for reclamation work. Jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.), hybrid poplar (Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh. ×Populus nigra L.) and red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) plants were used in an 8-week greenhouse bioassay to evaluate the mycorrhizal inoculum potential of CT. This inoculum potential was compared with that of three other reclamation materials [common tailing sands (TS), deep overburden (OB) and muskeg peat (MK)], and with three sites reclaimed in 1982 (R82), 1988 (R88) and 1999 (R99). CT was devoid of active mycorrhizal propagules while all other materials showed some level of inoculum potential. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi were observed on roots of clover or poplar grown in TS, OB, and all substrates containing peat (MK, R82, R88 and R99). Pine roots were also colonized by vesicle-forming hyphae of an unidentified fine endophyte and by dark septate fungi. Ectomycorrhizas (ECM) were observed on pine and poplar grown in OB, MK, and in soils from the two older reclaimed sites (R82 and R88). Using morpho- and molecular typing, six ECM fungi were identified to the genus or species level: Laccaria sp., Thelephora americana, Wilcoxina sp. (E-strain), Tuber sp. (I-type), a Sebacinoid, and a Pezizales species. Laccaria sp. and Wilcoxina sp. were the most frequently observed ECM species.  相似文献

以香樟作为指示植物,选取黄岩、临海和路桥地区污水处理厂污泥,将污泥与尾矿砂按(污泥质量比例为0%对照、25%、50%和75%)配比进行栽培试验。测定添加污泥对尾矿砂理化性质以及香樟生理特性的影响。结果表明:随着污泥比例的增加,混合基质中的有机质、全氮、全磷明显增加,pH值明显降低,离子交换量明显减少,Cu和Cd总量明显增加,而Pb总量明显减少,Zn总量没有明显变化,Cu、Cd和Zn的DTPA提取量明显增加,而Pb的DTPA提取量明显减少。黄岩和临海污泥在25%和50%比例时,香樟叶和茎的生物量和叶绿素含量明显增加,而根的生物量没有明显变化,在75%比例时,生物量和叶绿素含量均明显减少;而添加路桥污泥使香樟叶、茎和根的生物量和叶绿素含量明显减少。丙二醛含量则与生物量和叶绿素含量呈现相反的变化特征。黄岩和临海污泥在25%和50%比例时,根和叶的Cu、Cd、Pb和Zn含量明显减少,在75%比例时,Cu、Cd和Zn含量则明显增加;而添加路桥污泥使叶和根的Cu、Cd和Zn含量明显增加,Pb含量明显减少。研究表明添加污泥提高了尾矿砂的养分含量,同时改变了其重金属组成,对污泥重金属含量和有机质组成的监控可以准确地预测污泥改良后尾矿砂对植物毒性的变化。  相似文献

Summary Roots of two year old willow and poplar planted as cuttings in copper and iron mine tailings were stained intact and examined microscopically for mycorrhizal development. Incidence of mycorrhizae was related to tree vigor and to chemical and physical properties of the tailings. Results showed that no mycorrhizal development occurred on roots of these tree species in the copper tailings; inoculations with natural forest soil extract failed to initiate this symbiosis. Tops and roots of the willow and poplar were stunted and survival was poor. Roots in the iron mine tailings developed extensive ectomycorrhizae and trees showed good growth. Presence of mycorrhizae was confirmed and external morphology examined with the scanning electron microscope. Peat replacement is an increasing demand in containerized and transplant production, due to the environmental constraints associated to peat use. However, despite the wide information concerning the use of alternative materials as substrates, it is very complex to establish the best materials and mixtures. This work evaluates the use of mixture design and surface response methodology in a peat substitution experiment using two alternative materials (green compost and palm fibre trunk waste) for transplant production of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.); melon, (Cucumis melo L.); and lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in organic farming conditions. In general, the substrates showed suitable properties for their use in seedling production, showing the best plant response the mixture of 20% green compost, 39% palm fibre and 31% peat. The mixture design and applied response surface methodology has shown to be an useful approach to optimize substrate formulations in peat substitution experiments to standardize plant responses.  相似文献

Abstract

Mining activities have left a legacy of metals containing tailings impoundments. After mine closure, reclamation of mine wastes can be achieved by restoration of a vegetation cover. This study investigated the impact of biochar (BC), biosolids (BS), humic substances (HS), and mycorrhizal fungi (MF) for improving mine tailings fertility and hydraulic properties, supporting plant establishment, tailings revegetation, and enabling growth of energy crops. We conducted a pot trial by growing willow, poplar, and miscanthus in Pb/Zn/Cu mine tailings untreated or amended with two rates of amendments (low or high input). Biosolids resulted in the most significant changes in tailings properties, neutralizing pH and increasing organic carbon, nutrient concentrations, cation exchange capacity, water retention, and saturated hydraulic conductivity. The greatest increase in energy crops production was also observed in BS treatments enabling the financial viability of mine reclamation. Although BC resulted in significant improvements in tailings fertility and hydraulic properties, its impact on biomass was less pronounced, most likely due to lower N and P available concentrations. Increases in willow and miscanthus biomass were observed in HS and MF treatments in spite of their lower nutrient content. A pot experiment is underway to assess synergistic effects of combining BS with BC, HS, or MF.  相似文献

土壤种子库是植被群落的重要组成部分,其特征决定了群落的演替方向。对铜陵杨山冲尾矿库6个植被群落及相邻两处生境的土壤种子库进行了研究。结果表明,尾矿内各植被群落种子库的种子密度间存在较大差异,变化范围为57—593粒/m2,平均种子密度为370粒/m2,尾矿坝体和周围山体种子库种子密度分别为999和121粒/m2,各样地土壤中种子均主要集中在0—5 cm范围内。尾矿种子库与坝体种子库间的相似性指数大于其与周围山体种子库的相似性指数,但尾矿内各植被群落种子库间的相似性较差,相似性指数的变化范围为0.308—0.636。可见,群落微生境对土壤种子库的种子密度和物种组成产生了较大的影响。尾矿种子库种类与地上植被的平均相似指数为0.355,低于坝体种子库种类与地上植被相似性系数。3处样地土壤种子库的物种多样性、丰富度和均匀度指数均表现为坝体>尾矿>山体。尾矿种子库在农田土壤中萌发并正常生长的幼苗为16科44属53种,而在尾矿基质中仅为9科36属45种,均以禾本科、菊科和豆科植物萌发和生长状况较好,这3科构成了尾矿地上植被的主要类型。尾矿种子库在尾矿基质中萌发成活率为62.2%—91.2%,约为坝体和山体土壤种子库在尾矿基质中萌发成活率的2倍。说明,组成尾矿种子库的种子大部分已经适应了尾矿的极端恶劣环境或者其本身就是耐性极强的植物类型。  相似文献

Summary Growth and N accumulation were assessed in pure and mixed plantings (2 years old) of hybrid poplar and black alder in southern Québec. Symbiotic dinitrogen fixation was evaluated by natural15N dilution. Growth of hybrid poplar plants and N accumulation in their tissues increased with their decreasing contribution to species ratio whereas no differences among treatments were measured for black alder. Yield and N content per hectare of aboveground components increased with the proportion of black alder in the plantation. Symbiotic dinitrogen fixation was estimated at 68% of alder nitrogen in both pure and mixed treatments. The maximum rate of N-fixation was 53kg ha–1 yr–1 in pure alder plots. The amount of nitrogen accumulated in entire plants of black alder from symbiotic fixation could be sufficient to balance the N export in harvested stems and branches of short-rotation plantations containing at least 33% of alder.  相似文献

Steinernema feltiae Filipjev and S. carpocapsae Weiser (Nematoda: Steinernematidae) at rates of 1, 5 and 20 million m-2 in peat pots and at rates of 1, 2.5 and 5 million m-2 in rockwool cubes were tested against the shore fly Scatella tenuicosta Collin (Diptera: Ephydridae) by applying the nematodes either preventatively 2 days before or curatively 9 days after, or both 2 days before and 9 days after exposing the pots and cubes to flies. Based on cumulative fly numbers that emerged from peat pots sampled weekly for 3 weeks, all application strategies with 5 or 20 million nematodes net-m-2, irrespective of species, reduced fly numbers by 61-96% as compared to untreated controls. High temperatures in 1 week reduced control efficacy to 30-35% in some treatments. In rockwool, maximum control efficacies of 83-84% were achieved by both species in the second week in treatments that had received two applications at the rate of 5 million m-2, but these did not differ significantly from the 69-75% efficacies achieved with 2.5 million nematodes m-2. The cumulative control efficacy over 4 weeks was only 46% at maximum. The lower control efficacy in rockwool compared to peat was due to rapid disappearance of nematodes from rockwool.  相似文献

Intensive mining and processing activities worldwide resulted in the generation of huge amounts of waste (tailings), generally characterized as toxic, radioactive, and/or hazardous. The exposure potential and, hence, the risk posed by such wastes is enhanced by a general lack of vegetation. Phytostabilization has proven to be efficient in reducing this risk. However, establishing vegetation on tailing dumps may be expensive due to the intensive use of amendments and chemical fertilizers. In this article, investigations on artificial inoculation of mine tailings with bacterial strains as a means to improve the development of vegetative covers and reduce application cost by eliminating chemical fertilization are presented and discussed. The development of plants and microbial communities from tailings, as well as the impact of inoculation on metal uptake in plants, were studied. Experiments were carried out in greenhouse using two types of mine tailings (phosphogypsum and sulphidic tailings) from the Romanian Black Sea coast. Indigenous herbaceous plants were cultivated on tailings with the addition of chemical fertilizers versus bacterial inoculation. After a 6-month experimental period, excellent plant growth, which is associated with a rich microbial community, was observed in all inoculated treatments, in contrast with poor plant growth and microbiota from the chemical fertilization treatments alone. Additionally, artificial inoculation improved plant resistance to heavy metals by reducing the uptake of some toxic metals. Once a rich microbial community is established, inoculation may be discontinued. Based on these results, efficient and cost-effective phytostabilization schemes can be proposed.  相似文献

Revegetation of mine tailings usually requires amendments of phosphorus. However, phosphate addition can mobilize arsenic (As) from the tailings. A 5-mo lysimeter field trial was conducted to quantify As mobilization in gold mine tailings, in association with different P amendment products and different plant species (barley Hordeum vulgare, blue lupin Lupinus angustifolius, rye corn Secale cereale) necessary for short-term revegetation of mine tailings. A simultaneous laboratory experiment was run to examine As mobilization in 1-cm-deep tailings in relation to different P amendment rates. The experimental results showed that the amount of As leached was proportional to the amount of P added. In the larger scale lysimeters, P amendment of < 3 g m(-2) caused As leaching of 0.5 mg L(-1) from unplanted lysimeters and up to 0.9 mg L(-1) on average in planted lysimeters. Variable species-amendment combinations produced differences in the amount of As leached and uptaken. Leachates and uptakes were higher with an organic fertilizer amendment than Superphosphate, particularly in combination with barley. Arsenic accumulated in plant biomass to 126 mg kg(-1) in shoots and 469 mg kg(-1) in roots.  相似文献

We investigated the potential of peat additions to improve plant growth and fertility and to reduce plant metal uptake in waste foundry sands (WFS) landfills. The WFS contains 78211 mg kg(-1) and 371 mg kg(-1) concentrations of Cr and Ni, respectively, and varied metal concentrations. The experiment investigated the growth of Brassica juncea plants on fertilized WFS mixed with peat at concentrations of 0, 2.5, 5, and 10% (w/w). The highest peat treatment allowed substantial plant growth and increased Ni mass in shoots, which was positively correlated to shoot biomass increments. On a concentration basis, peat additions did not increase shoot Ni values, thus suggesting that plants grown on peat-treated WFS may not increase risks to human and ecological receptors. Chromium was below detection levels in shoots for all peat treatments. Peat-treated substrates also promoted increased CEC values and higher water holding capacity, therefore improving the WFS agronomical properties. These results indicate that peat can be used as an amendment to assist in the phytoremediation of WFS landfill areas. However, there was evidence for increased mobilization of Cr and Ni in the substrate solution which can pose a threat to local groundwater.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted in a growth chamber to investigate the effects of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) and quackgrass (Elymus repens) on the growth of hybrid poplar (Populus deltoides × Populus × petrowskyana var. Walker). Single hybrid poplar seedlings were grown in pots either alone (SHP) or with four or eight dandelion plants per pot or with one or three quackgrass plants per pot in two soils collected from sites previously managed for alfalfa and pasture near Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. Hybrid poplar and weed species were harvested approximately 7 and 14 weeks after planting. Approximately 14 weeks after planting, hybrid poplar shoot biomass in the SHP treatment was 28 g for the pasture soil and 22 g for the alfalfa soil. Corresponding shoot biomass for hybrid poplar grown with the dandelion and quackgrass treatments varied from 0.54 to 0.81 g and 0.3 to 3.66 g, respectively. Other hybrid poplar growth parameters including stem height, root collar diameter and fresh root biomass were similarly reduced by competition with the weed species. During the growing period, soil solution N and K concentrations decreased several-fold in both soils; however, the magnitude of decrease was comparatively higher in the weed treatments. Nitrogen, P and K uptake by hybrid poplar was greater in the SHP treatment in both the soils (337–425, 38–49 and 396–463 mg pot−1, respectively) compared to the weed treatments (4–28, 0.4–6.2 and 0.6–54.0 mg pot−1, respectively) by the end of the experiment. 以粉煤灰、草炭、蛭石、河沙为培养基质,分别对4种不同AM真菌:Glomus mosseae,G.diaphanum,G.intraradices和G.versiforme的生态适应性进行研究。结果表明,菌根的侵染率、孢子密度和菌丝长度分别与菌根真菌种类、培养基质状况及寄主植物种类有关。4种基质的扩繁效果顺序为:河沙>粉煤灰>草炭>蛭石。G.mosseae和G.diaphanum在基质中的产孢量和菌丝长度优于G.intraradices和G.versiforme,可作为优势菌株。4种菌根真菌在粉煤灰中对寄主的侵染率均达到60%以上,粉煤灰作为菌根真菌培养基质具有更大潜力和实际应用价值。  相似文献

为了探讨不同造林树种对铁尾矿基质改良及土壤动物的影响,在唐山迁安马兰庄铁尾矿区选择尾矿坡面直接造林成功的沙地柏、紫穗槐、毛白杨3种树种,测定林内尾矿理化性质和土壤动物,并与裸尾矿进行对比分析。结果表明:(1)紫穗槐林对铁尾矿土壤容重、总孔隙度、非毛管孔隙度和饱和持水量的改善效果最好,沙地柏林对改善毛管孔隙度、田间持水量和毛管持水量的效果最好。(2)3个树种造林均使尾矿砂p H值明显降低。紫穗槐林对尾矿砂有机质、全氮、碱解氮、速效磷、速效钾含量的积累效果最好,沙地柏林和紫穗槐林均有利于尾矿砂中全钾含量的积累。(3)紫穗槐林下土壤动物数量和多样性最高,沙地柏林次之。铁尾矿土壤动物与环境因素灰色关联度分析表明,全氮、有机质、碱解氮、土壤容重与土壤动物多样性关系密切,植被覆盖率和植被高度对土壤动物多样性影响最小。(4)主成分分析结果表明:紫穗槐林对铁尾矿基质理化性质和土壤动物综合改良效果最好,其次是沙地柏林,杨树林的改良效果不明显。但进行值被恢复后,各样地的立地条件均优于裸尾矿。  相似文献

Two composts prepared from agroindustrial wastes were assayed as substrates: C1 from brewing waste (yeast and malt) plus lemon tree prunings; and C2 from the solid fraction of olive mill wastewater plus olive leaves. Sixteen substrates were prepared by combining each compost with Sphagnum peat or a commercial substrate (CS) in different proportions. The nutrients (N and K) provided by the composts, which acted as slow-release fertilisers, influenced especially the development of calendula, although the physical and physico-chemical properties such as total pore space and electrical conductivity (EC) were also relevant. On the other hand, in the salt-sensitive calceolaria hybrid, EC and chloride concentration were the main factors influencing growth. Adequate substrates for the development of calendula can be prepared by mixing C1 at up to 75% with peat or at up to 50% with CS, and C2 at up to 50% with peat or CS. For calceolaria, the substrate should have a lower proportion of compost, C1 at up to 50% and C2 at up to 25%, both mixed with peat or CS. Therefore, composts of agroindustrial origin such as these can be used as an alternative to peat and CSs for growing ornamental plants. provided the mixture contains at least 25% peat or CS.  相似文献

High erosion potential of dewatered kimberlite mine tailings after diamond extraction has prompted research at the Ekati Diamond Mine in the Canadian subarctic heath tundra ecosystem. Coarse texture, no organic component, lack of available macronutrients, and a serpentine chemistry are the principal limitations of these kimberlite tailings to plant colonization. Structure‐improving (peat moss, lake sediment, sewage sludge, Agri‐Boost, and composted papermill sludge) and nutrient‐providing (fertilizer, calcium carbonate, gypsum, and rock phosphate) amendments were tested in the greenhouse to ameliorate these limitations, thereby facilitating the field establishment of a permanent vegetation cover, which would stabilize the surface materials and promote natural colonization by the surrounding tundra vegetation. Seven native grass species (Arctagrostis latifolia, Calamagrostis canadensis, Poa glauca, Poa alpina, Deschampsia beringensis, Deschampsia caespitosa, and Festuca rubra) were used to measure amendment success. With the addition of structure‐improving and nutrient‐providing amendments, plant growth on kimberlite tailings was significantly enhanced. Tailings properties, including cation exchange capacity, percentage of organic carbon, and macronutrient availability, were also improved by amendment addition.  相似文献

通过水培实验和土培实验,研究了铜陵铜尾矿对5种豆科植物种子萌发和幼苗生长的影响。结果表明,五种豆科植物种子在尾矿浸提液中均能萌发,但萌发率比对照组低,而且浸提液对种子萌发产生一定的阻滞作用,酸化尾矿浸提液对种子萌发初期的吸胀吸水有促进作用。尾矿与土壤5种不同改良方式的基质试验也发现铜尾矿对种子萌发着阻滞作用,其中大豆、赤豆、赤小豆在70d内未发现死苗现象。  相似文献

The use of alternative soilless media for the production of potted plants requires knowledge of their physical and chemical characteristics to result in the best conditions for plant growth. We investigated the use of alternative soilless media based on river waste and Sphagnun sp. and Carex sp. from Argentinean peatlands on Petuniaxhybrida and Impatiens wallerana production at two fertilization levels (200 and 400mgl(-1)N). River waste or 'temperate peat' is the name given to a material, resulting from the accumulation of aquatic plant residues under an anaerobic subtropical environment, which is dredged from river banks. Our results showed that alternative substrates based on river waste can be used to grow high quality plants. This result was not fully explained on the basis of established methods to evaluate substrate quality. Highly concentrated fertigation solution decreased the substrate quality parameters and plant growth. Nitrate leaching from the alternative substrates containing river waste was lower than the standard peat-based materials, which makes river waste desirable from a sustainable pot production system perspective. River waste and Carex peat are suitable alternatives to Sphagnum peat from the Northern Hemisphere.  相似文献

The phytostabilization of waste material generated during mining and processing of iron ore through Calophyllum inophyllum L. have been investigated. Iron ore tailings and its varying composition with garden soil were taken to study plant growth, chlorophyll content and metal uptake pattern of Calophyllum inophyllum L. These studies indicate that 100% survival of plant species was noted in all the treatments without any toxicity symptoms. The increase in growth parameters and chlorophyll content along with the high metal accumulation in plant tissues suggests that Calophyllum inophyllum L. may be a potential tool for phytoremediation. The accumulation of Pb (1662 microgm/gm) and Fe (2313 microgm/gm) was observed to be maximum in the plant tissues followed by Cu, Zn, Cr, and Ni. The TF values for most of the heavy metals was observed to be > 1 which indicates that the plant can efficiently translocate these toxic metals to its above ground parts. Removal of more than 30% of the most of the heavy metal like Fe, Pb, and Cu & Zn has been observed in all the treatments during one year of observation. The overall study clearly suggests that the plant can be used as an efficient tool for restoration of mining wastes and other similarly contaminated sites.  相似文献

Revegetation of Pb/Zn Mine Tailings, Guangdong Province, China   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The Lechang lead/zinc mine is located in the north part of Guangdong Province, southern China. The tailings residue from the extraction of lead/zinc ores was permanently stored in tailings ponds, which required revegetation to reduce the environmental impact. A field study was, therefore, conducted to evaluate the effects of different ameliorants, including: (1) pig manure (PM); (2) mushroom compost (MC); (3) burnt coal residue (BC); (4) fly ash (FA); and (5) surface soil on the growth of Agropyron elongatum (tall wheat grass), Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda grass), Lolium multiflorum (Italian ryegrass), and Trifolium repens (clover) in the tailings residue. The results from the core profiles indicated that adding FA (10 cm) or BC (15 cm) as a barrier layer between the cover soil and the tailings could increase pH, compared to the treatment with soil only. C. dactylon grew well and had a high cover (90–100%) in all the treatment plots except the control plots without any amendment. A. elongatum and L. multiflorum had a higher cover when grown in plots covered with a barrier layer using FA or BC (both with surface soil), than those grown in plots covered with surface soil only. Treatment plots receiving a thicker soil cover (30 cm) had a better dry weight yield than those with a thinner soil cover (15 cm), regardless of the barrier layer. The results from this study indicate that the use of either 15 cm BC or 10 cm FA as a barrier layer with surface soil, or the use of 38 tonnes PM/ha and 6 cm MC, were effective for the revegetation of Pb/Zn mine tailings. C. dactylon was the best species among the four species used for revegetation.
