The silver‐studded blue, Plebejus subsolanus, is widely distributed in the Russian Altai mountains, northeastern China, the Korean Peninsula, and the Japanese archipelago. In Japan, the species is distributed across wide elevation ranges from the lowlands of Hokkaido to the subalpine zone of Honshu. Current subspecies classification in Japan is as follows: ssp. iburiensis, occurring in lowland grasslands in Hokkaido; ssp. yaginus in lower mountain grasslands in Honshu; and ssp. yarigadakeanus in higher mountain grasslands in Honshu. The habitat of this species has been markedly reduced due to recent habitat destruction and land‐use changes. Here, we undertook phylogeographic analyses of two subspecies, ssp. yaginus and yarigadakeanus in the central mountainous regions of Japan, based on two mitochondrial gene sequences, in order to collect information for establishing effective conservation strategies. From 57 samples from the four mountain ranges, we obtained a haplotype network comprised of 12 haplotypes. Because of the haplotype network topology, the geographic distribution of haplotypes and the correspondence of haplotype divergence to subspecies taxonomy, we provisionally divided the haplotypes into three haplogroups: YR1 and YR2, which comprised ssp. yarigadakeanus, and YG, which comprised ssp. yaginus. Mitochondrial DNA genetic differentiation generally agreed with morphological subspecies classification. The haplotype network suggested that ssp. yarigadakeanus populations had multiple origins, and the subspecies character of “bright blue of the male's wings” was assumed to have evolved independently in each subalpine meadow. We found that P. subsolanus was genetically differentiated depending upon the elevation at each mountain region, suggesting that each haplogroup should be a conservation unit.  相似文献

A genomic library was constructed and 10 novel polymorphic microsatellite markers developed for Acacia saligna, a species complex being developed for agroforestry across southern Australia. Polymorphism was investigated for these markers in 30 individuals from two subspecies. Alleles per locus averaged 4.0 for ssp. saligna and 5.2 for ssp. lindleyi. Population specific alleles were detected for all loci. The microsatellite markers will be used for diagnostic assessment of the four main subspecies of the species complex.  相似文献

The monophyletic Nasa ranunculifolia group (Nasa ser. Grandiflorae pro parte) is revised on the basis of extensive field studies and a revision of copious herbarium material. All species of this group are from the high Andes of Peru and Ecuador (mostly 3000–4300 m). The overall degree of morphological divergence is much lower than in other groups of Nasa and many of the various local ‘races’ are best recognized as ecogeographically isolated subspecies. Thus, six species and 13 subspecies are recognized on the basis of differences in leaf and floral morphology, growth habit, life history and distribution. Nasa ranunculifolia, N. macrantha, N. cymbopetala and N. macrorrhiza are united as subspecies under N. ranunculifolia. An additional five subspecies of N. ranunculifolia are newly described (ssp. pamparomasii, ssp. guzmangoensis, ssp. bolivarensis, ssp. patazensis and ssp. huanucoensis). Nasa rugosa is subdivided into four subspecies, three of them new (ssp. llaqtacochaensis, ssp. gracilipes and ssp. pygmaea). Nasa tulipadiaboli sp. nov. and N. basilica sp. nov. are described as new species. Eight taxa (seven subspecies and one species) are endemic to the Amotape–Huancabamba Zone, and seven of them (six subspecies and one species) are new to science. Only a single species ranges into the Amotape–Huancabamba Zone from the south, underscoring the high levels of endemism (and taxonomic novelty) in this area. Illustrations, distribution maps, a key and diagnoses are given for all taxa recognized. © 2011 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2011, 167 , 47–93.  相似文献

Summary Intraspecific variation of a wild potato species, Solanum acaule Bitt., was analyzed by RFLPs of genomic DNA. One hundred and five accessions were selected throughout the distribution area, including all subspecies, i.e., ssp. albicans (hexaploid), ssp. punae (tetraploid), ssp. acaule (tetraploid) and ssp. aemulans (tetraploid). Twenty-seven low-copy DNA clones (probes) were Southern hybridized with EcoRI, EcoRV, HindIII, and XbaI digests of total DNA of all accessions. In total, 238 RFLPs were detected from 94 enzyme x probe combinations. Among them, 49 RFLPs were specific to ssp. albicans, suggesting that the additional third genome is distinct from its two other genomes. RFLPs between and within subspecies were analyzed by principal component analysis. DNA similarities between subspecies coincided with a former taxonomic treatment in the sense that ssp. albicans is the most distantly related to ssp. acaule and ssp. aemulans is distantly related. Subspecies acaule and ssp. punae were indistinguishable. In addition, RFLPs could be used to distinguish groups within subspecies. Subspecies aemulans, confined to Argentina, was divided into two populations, one from the province of La Rioja and the other from the province of Jujuy. In ssp. acaule, some accessions from the southernmost distribution area were clearly distinguishable, while the others varied continuously, showing a geographical cline from Peru to Argentina.Reference to a specific brand or firm name does not constitute endorsement by the US Department of Agriculture over others of similar nature not mentioned  相似文献

Summary The present paper is part of a series of papers comparing two ecologically distinct subspecies ofHypochaeris radicata L.Hypochaeris radicata ssp.radicata grows in more fertile soils thanH. radicata ssp.ericetorum.The dry-weight yield of plants grown from seeds was measured after a 25 days culture period on varying levels of nitrate. Roots and shoots were analyzed for total organic nitrogen and free nitrate. Dry-weight yield showed an almost identical response over the whole range of nitrate concentrations used. The chemical analysis did not reveal differences between the subspecies that could explain the distribution in the field. In a second experiment the growth rate of the two subspecies was measured under optimal nitrate supply during a two month period. Both subspecies exhibited initially the same relative growth rate but one month after sowing the growth rate of both subspecies declined, with a sharper decline in ssp.ericetorum resulting in an 82 per cent difference in dry-weight between both subspecies two months after sowing. Some pronounced formative differences became evident. Shoot to root ratio of ssp.ericetorum showed little response to increasing nitrate concentrations whereas ssp.radicata was clearly responsive in this respect. The contribution of the tap root in total plant dry-weight was relatively higher in ssp.Ericetorum. The decline in growth rate and the formative differences can explain the absence of ssp.ericetorum from nutrient rich soils. when grown on ammonium ssp.radicata had a slightly but not significantly higher yield than ssp.ericetorum. The difference was even greater at low pH. It is concluded that both subspecies are adapted to ammonium nutrition at pH 4.5 as well as at pH 6 and that the absence of ssp.radicata from acidic soils cannot be explained by the low pH. The possibility that both subspecies have different abilities to reduce their growth when nitrate resources become limiting, and yet remain capable for further growth and reproduction is discussed.Grassland species research group, publ. no.16.  相似文献

Summary Genetic variation in leaf and inflorescence morphology and in generative development within the species Plantago major has been analysed by means of crosses between members of two different subspecies. The variable characters chosen are supposed to be important for determining the ecological differences between the subspecies and other ecotypes. The analyses of F2's indicated that a substantial number of loci controlling the above mentioned characters are situated near the Pgm-1 locus, forming a gene complex. This gene complex can exist in at least three different forms in ssp. pleiosperma, ssp. major lawn type and ssp. major roadside type, respectively. In addition, some important factors for ecotypic differentiation are situated in the neighbourhood of the Got-1 locus and in a linkage group containing three other allozyme loci. These linkages between allozyme loci and fitness-affecting loci can explain the restriction of some enzyme alleles to a particular subspecies.Grassland Species Research Group Publication No. 50  相似文献

Endrin is persistent organic pollutants that contaminate soil in many parts of the world. In this study, endrin was used as the substrate for a degradation experiment with the white rot fungi of the genus Phlebia. The results of tolerance test showed that the tolerance level of Phlebia acanthocystis and Phlebia brevispora to endrin was higher than that of other fungi, and the tolerance coefficient of both strains to 1.0 mg/L endrin exceeded 0.9 in solid PDA medium. P. acanthocystis and P. brevispora could degrade endrin efficiently in pure culture, especially P. acanthocystis had the highest degradability of more than 80% after 20 d incubation. Compared with low-nitrogen medium, PDB medium is more suitable for the biodegradability of two fungi. Several hydroxylated products such as 8-hydroxyendrin and two monohydroxyendrin were detected, indicating that endrin was initially branched to different monohydroxylated products in fungal degradation. Moreover, a carboxylic acid product was obtained from P. acanthocystis culture, suggesting that the carboxylation reaction occurred in bioconversion of endrin. The fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes play significant role in the in the initial hydroxylation process on endrin degradation. This is the first report that endrin is converted to hydroxylated and carboxylated metabolites by microorganisms.  相似文献

Summary Uptake and assimilation of nitrate by two subspecies ofHypochaeris radicata L. were investigated under laboratory conditions as well as in the field.H. radicata ssp.radicata grows on relatively nitrogen-richer soils thanH. radicata ssp.ericetorum. Attempts were made to relate nitrate uptake and nitrate assimilation in the two subspecies to their different distribution in the field. No differences between the two subspecies with respect to nitrate uptake and nitrate assimilation were observed under laboratory conditions. In plants from the field intact tissue nitrate reductase was higher in ssp.radicata than in ssp.ericetorum. The nitrate reductase activity of both subspecies responded positively to nitrate addition. The significance of nitrate uptake capacity and the level of nitrate reductase for the distribution of plants in the field is here discussed.Grassland species research group, publ. no.15.  相似文献

Summary The ligninolytic enzymes ofPhlebia radiata were produced in static conditions earlier developed forPhanerochaete chrysosporium. The production pattern of lignin peroxidases resembled that ofP. chrysosporium. The extracellular proteins ofPhlebia radiata were separated by isoelectric focusing. Four proteins with acidic isoelectric points (4.15) were detected by peroxidase staining. The peroxidases ofP. radiata reacted with antibodies produced against a peroxidase ofPhanerochaete chrysosporium and vice versa. Thus the lignin peroxidases of the two fungi have major similarities despite slight differences in their isoelectric points and molecular weights. Veratryl alcohol was produced by both fungi and degraded to veratraldehyde, two lactones and a quinone by the ligninolytic cultures.  相似文献

Taxa of the Viola alba complex were investigated using allozymes and morphometry. A taxonomic revision is presented. A wide delimitation of V. alba with only three morphological and geographical subspecies is suggested: (1) ssp. dehnhardtii distributed in the Mediterranean eastwards to Turkey; (2) ssp. alba flanking ssp. dehnhardtii in the north and east; and (3) ssp. cretica endemic to Crete. Ssp. cretica, up to now treated as a separate species, is particularly close to ssp. dehnhardtii. Viola cadevallii (NW Mediterranean) is included in the synonymy of ssp. dehnhardtii. Ssp. scotophylla (S Europe), ssp. thessala (Balkan), V. armena (Turkey), and V. besseri (Caucasus) are reduced to synonyms of V. alba ssp. alba. Viola pentelica (Greece) might represent transitional forms between ssp. alba and ssp. dehnhardtii. Glacial refugia for ssp. alba are suggested from the eastern Mediterranean via Turkey to the Caucasus, for ssp. dehnhardtii in the Mediterranean area in general, and for ssp. cretica in Crete. A key to the subspecies is provided. Taxonomic recombination: Viola alba Bess. ssp. cretica (Boiss. & Heldr.) Marcussen, comb. nov. Summary Plastid and mitochondrial DNAs from Hedysarum species of the western Mediterranean basin, H. spinosissimum ssp eu-spinosissimum, H. spinosissimum ssp capitatum, H. carnosum, H. coronarium and H. flexuosum, were compared by restriction endonuclease fragment analysis. ctDNA fragment patterns for ssp eu-spinosissimum and ssp capitatum were indistinguishable in different enzyme digests. An identical ctDNA variation was found in Hpa II digests with two Sardinian populations of ssp capitatum. Each of the two subspecies was characterized by specific mt DNA patterns with Pst I, Bam HI, Sma I and EcoRI. No variation was detected in populations of different geographical origins for a given subspecies. H. carnosum, H. coronarium and H. flexuosum generated specific ct and mt DNA patterns. Comparison of mitochondrial fragments indicated: — a strong homology between the two subspecies, — a closer homology among the three other diploids, each being closer to the other two than to H. spinosissimum subspecies — as was also the case for the plastid genomes.  相似文献

We applied an integrative approach to re-evaluate the taxonomy of the conchologically highly diverse land snail genus Rossmaessleria from the Rif Mountains in Morocco and from Gibraltar, which has been classified into 12 nominal species so far. An analysis of cox1 and 16S rDNA sequences using the General Mixed Yule-coalescent approach with a single or multiple thresholds, its Bayesian implementation as well as the Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery method indicated that all Rossmaessleria populations can be classified into a single species, R. scherzeri (Zelebor, 1867). This result is confirmed by the lack of diagnostic differences in the genitalia as shown in a principal component analysis of the genital measurements. The variation of shell characters also does not allow an unambiguous subdivision of the complex. However, the populations of a mountain or a mountain ridge share characteristic combinations of shell characters so that they can be classified as geographic subspecies. The delimitation of the subspecies and their distribution is discussed and three subspecies are described as new to science: R. scherzeri periclitata ssp. nov. R. scherzeri ingae ssp. nov., and R. scherzeri eleanorae ssp. nov.

Summary A method is described for culturing plants at extremely low nutrient concentrations. Using a Braun infusion pump, a fixed amount of nitrate or ammonium was supplied continuously to plants growing in a culture vessel at a rate limiting the uptake of the plants. At a very low nitrogen concentration an equilibrium was established where uptake rate of the plants is equal to the rate of supply by the infusion pump. The nitrogen concentrations reached appeared to be in the order of 1 μM. The method compared the nitrate uptake byHypochaeris radicata L.ssp.radicata, H. radicata ssp.ericetorum Van Soest andUrtica dioica L. and ammonium uptake byH. radicata ssp.radicata andH. radicata ssp.ericetorum. Plants were cultivated in monocultures or in mixed cultures (two species per culture vessel). For the mixed cultures competition for nitrate (or ammonium) between the species was maintained for long periods. The capacities of the uptake systems of two subspecies ofH. radicata from places different in nitrogen supply and pH were adapted equally well to both low nitrate and low ammonium concentrations. Apparently factors other than nitrogen uptake play a part in the distribution of the subspecies. The capacity of the uptake system ofU. dioica, a nitrophilous species, was lower than that ofH. radicata ssp.radicata, a species from places poorer in nitrogen. This difference is related to the different distribution of the two species in the field. The present results are compared with those of previous experiments where Km and Vmax were measured and the significance of both parameters is discussed.  相似文献

Ten microsatellite loci were isolated from the African ant‐plant Leonardoxa africana (Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae). They differentiate the two most divergent subspecies of this polytypic complex, L. a. africana and L. a. gracilicaulis, showing promise for the study of gene flow. In each of these two subspecies, high levels of within‐population variation were observed, with a number of alleles ranging from one to 10 in ssp. africana and from one to 7 in ssp. gracilicaulis, and heterozygosity from 0 to 0.933 in ssp. africana and to 0.867 in ssp. gracilicaulis. All loci amplified successfully in the two other subspecies of L. africana.  相似文献

Communities dominated by Artemisia tridentata ssp. tridentata, A. tridentata ssp. wyomingensis, and A. tridentata ssp. vaseyana, found in the Piceance Basin of western Colorado, were evaluated for life history strategy. Species cover data were analyzed using Grime's (1984) triangular model. Then a canonical analysis was conducted to obtain an ordination of relative species cover. Results from these two analyses were then used to infer strategy differences among life histories of subspecies, based on the respective plant community associates. These differences were found to be consistent with the divergent evolution assumed to have occurred in this species. The primary ordination axis was interpreted as an elevation-moisture gradient. Further analysis of soil data by factor analysis also separated the three Artemisia subspecies along a soil texture gradient.  相似文献

Four subspecies of Cystocnemis discoidea are distinguished; two subspecies are described as new to science based on investigation of intraspecific variation in different parts of the species range, and ssp. gebleri was resurrected from synonymy. The ways of speciation in highland-hollow landscapes are discussed. The alpine subspecies C. discoidea oreas ssp. n. has an altibiome disjunction with the nominotypical subspecies. Similarity of the alpine subspecies of C. discoidea to the species from the subgenus Entomomela was found to be the reason of permanent confusion of representatives of these taxa. The subgenus Entomomela is transferred from the genus Oreomela to the genus Cystocnemis. A key to species and subspecies of the genus Cystocnemis is given.  相似文献

The genus Eucalyptus includes over 700 species, some of which are the most widely planted hardwoods worldwide. Each species and subspecies of Eucalyptus present different characteristics regarding its wood quality and yield. This fact makes it very important to work with known species/subspecies so as to optimize handling and conservation of forest resources. Some of them are morphologically very similar, making it difficult to differentiate by simple observation. This is the case with Euclyptus globulus ssp globulus and E. globulus ssp maidenii, which can only be distinguished in the adult tree. These issues can be avoided using well-characterized seeds. This can be quite expensive, especially for the small growers. An alternative approach is to develop simple methods for the differentiation of the two subspecies. In this work, we develop a quick method, based on SCAR molecular markers derived from RAPD molecular markers, for the differentiation of the subspecies of E. globulus, in particular E. globulus ssp globulus and E. globulus ssp maidenii.  相似文献

The snail Melanoides tuberculata has been used successfully in the control of some snails, intermediate host of parasitosis. Melanoides tuberculata has been found in Tunisia, but its effects on populations of native snail have not yet been evaluated in the field. Our objective is to determine whether M. tuberculata competed with Galba truncatula, using a field study. Twelve monthly investigations were carried out along an irrigation system in Ain Soltane's oasis (southwest of Tunisia). Here, we describe the population dynamics of G. truncatula with and without M. tuberculata in two stations: a witness pilot station (S1), in which the snail lives alone, and an experimental station (S2), where two species live together. The abundance of G. truncatula varied according to subsistence or not of M. tuberculata. The number of annual generations is higher in S1 (four generations) than S2 (two generations). In the absence of other molluscs or predators that can influence the density of G. truncatula and assuming that climatic factors are mitigated by the presence of an oasean microclimate, these results show that the mollusc M. tuberculata has a competition with the vector species of fluke.  相似文献

Summary The present work reports the production of laccase, lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase by the little studied white-rot fungus Phlebia floridensis under a variety of nutritional and physicochemical conditions. Among the different media and supplements the highest yields of laccase, lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase were recorded in the presence of sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw and rice straw, respectively. Laccase and manganese peroxidase activities were best expressed at a pH of 4.5 while lignin peroxidase was optimally active at a lower pH. Laccase proved to be much more thermostable as compared to the other two enzymes.  相似文献

Seven polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed for the wood‐decay basidiomycete Phlebia centrifuga. The primers were identified using two techniques, based on intersimple sequence repeats (ISSR) and amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP), respectively. The markers were screened on 27 isolates from Europe and North America. Two markers varied only on a worldwide scale, but not within Europe. The other five showed variation on both scales. These markers will now be used to characterize populations of P. centrifuga, which is red‐listed as near‐threatened in its natural habitat due to human disturbance.  相似文献
