The intrapopulation morphological and behavioral polymorphism of roach (Rutilus rutilus) and perch Perca fluviatilis) was studied. It was shown that marker indices for distinguishing intrapopulation groups are the size of the mouth opening and the index of the body shape in roach and the coefficient of pigmentation in perch. Based on analysis of the data of indices, it was found that there are two ecological groups—coastal and pelagic in populations of roach and perch. Several behavioral differences in individuals of various ecological groups were revealed. Comparison of the defense reaction of perch individuals belonging to various ecological groups was performed. The assessment of the effects of hydrodynamic activity on the survival of perch individuals belonging to various ecological groups was made. Differences in the swimming capacity of juvenile roach developing under conditions of biotopes of various types were established. Suggestions were made on the mechanisms of formation of intrapopulation groups of roach and river perch.  相似文献

The consequences of elevated temperature on body shape were investigated by comparing European perch Perca fluviatilis from the Forsmark area of the Baltic Sea to P. fluviatilis from a nearby Biotest enclosure. The Biotest is a man‐made enclosure within the Baltic Sea that has received warm water from a nuclear power plant since 1980, resulting in temperatures that are elevated 5–10° C relative to the surrounding Baltic Sea. Sampled fish ranged from young‐of‐the‐year to 14 years. Geometric morphometrics and multivariate statistical analysis revealed significant morphological differences between individuals of P. fluviatilis from these two habitats. Most importantly, relative shape changed with size, with small individuals of P. fluviatilis from Biotest being characterized by a deeper body shape and a larger caudal peduncle than the smaller Baltic individuals. In large specimens, smaller differences were found with Biotest individuals being more slender than Baltic individuals. These results show that, in order to have a full understanding of the biological effects of elevated temperatures, studies that cover the entire size range of organisms will be important. Apart from the direct influence of temperature on growth rate and body shape, other ecological factors affected by temperature are discussed as possible contributors to the observed differences between the two populations.  相似文献

Three stochastic versions of the Gompertz growth model were used to parameterize total length (L(T) )-at-age data for perch Perca fluviatilis, an important target species for commercial and recreational fishers and a food species for predatory fishes and aquatic birds. Each model addresses growth heterogeneity by incorporating random parameters from a specific positive distribution: Weibull, gamma or log-normal. The modelling outputs for each version of the model provide L(T) distributions for selected ages and percentiles of L(T) at age for both males and females. The results highlight the importance of using a stochastic approach and the logistic-like growth pattern for analysing growth data for P. fluviatilis in Curonian Lagoon (Lithuania). Outputs from this modelling can be extended to a stochastic analysis of fish cohort dynamics, incorporating all length-based biological relationships, and the selectivity-related interactions between fish cohorts and fishing gear.  相似文献

The otoliths of laboratory‐reared larval and juvenile perch Perca fluviatilis of known age were analysed to determine the age of otolith formation and validate the formation of daily increments. There was a linear relationship between number of increments and age in days post‐hatching, although by 82 days post‐hatching daily increment counts underestimated actual age by an average of 5 days. Otolith dimensions in relation to standard length indicated allometric growth of otoliths until completion of yolk absorption, and isometric growth thereafter, up to 82 days post‐hatching.  相似文献

Gill net catches of perch Perca fluviatilis in eight acidified lakes immediately before liming are compared] with catches in the same lakes two years after liming. Simultaneously, six control lakes, not limed, were investigated with the same procedures. A significant increase in the average catches of perch was found in the limed lakes, but not in the control lakes. This result confirms earlier reports, although seldom supported with data from controls, on successful recovery after liming.  相似文献

Synopsis Characteristics of perch were studied in 4 recently acidified lakes in southern Finland. The densities of the populations were 0–250 ha–1 compared with 1400–3300 ha–1 in two circumneutral reference lakes. The perch were close to extinction in one acidic lake and dominated by 7 year old fish in two other acidic lakes, suggesting decreased reproduction. Individual fecundity was not reduced by the acidity, but high mortality (close to 100%) of eggs in two acidic lakes indicated recruitment failure. In one of the acidified lakes reproduction had continued resulting in a population dominated by younger fish. However, increased egg mortality, low density, and the resulting high growth rate of perch in this lake were considered to be consequences of the acidity. These findings are the first documentation on the possible decrease of fish populations in Finland due to acid precipitation.  相似文献

SUMMARY. The growth in length and weight (wet and dry) of 0+ perch Perca fluviatilis during their first summer of life in Windermere, has been investigated. Two major stanzas, occurring during and after metamorphosis, characterize the growth of 0+ perch in Windermere. The change from one stanza to another takes place between six and eight weeks after hatching. The exponential rate of growth in length was 0.26 and 0.27 mm mm−1 week−1 for the first stanzas of 1975 and 1976, respectively, and decreased to about 0.08 and 0.07 mm mm−1 week−1 for the second stanzas of the same years. Similarly, the growth in both wet and dry weights decreased from the first to the second stanza. Growth of 0+ perch was found to be logistic, and could not be described by the von Bertalanffy growth curve. The relationship between weight and length was allometric and the power values for length were, for wet weight: 4.154 (in 1975) and 4.033 (in 1976) for the first stanza and 2.400 (in 1975) and 2.734 (in 1976) for the second stanza; for dry weight: 3.988 (1975) and 3.971 (1976) for the first stanza and 3.066 (1975) and 2.651 (1976) for the second stanza. Half of the total growth was completed in 47% (1975) and 40% (1976) of the total growth period to the end of the summer.  相似文献

The behaviour of bathypelagic perch fry (BPF) was monitored during 21 May, 24 June, 8 August and 5 September 1996 along the longitudinal profile of Římov reservoir (Czech Republic), using acoustic methods (SIMRAD EY 500 echosounder, elliptical split-beam transducer, Sonar5 postprocessing software). In May, the BPF layer comprised a mass of solitary perch larvae at an abundance of over 31,000 ind. ha−1. In contrast, in June, the BPF layer consisted almost exclusively of shoaling individuals. The abundance of BPF increased up to 166,000 ind. ha−1. Similary, in August, fish in shoals prevailed in the BPF layer but the abundance dropped to less than 3,000 ind. ha−1. In September, the BPF layer consisted of both individuals and small groups of fish. At this time the abundance of BPF slightly increased to almost 5,000 ind. ha−1. Individual parameters describing the BPF layer, depth of the main layer, abundance of BPF in the main layer and thickness of the whole layer, differed significantly among months. The negligible abundance of potential predators below the thermocline, both in June and in August (exclusively adult perch), suggests that the BPF shoals were more likely to be created as a result of a social need rather than as a defense against predators. During similar surveys carried out prior to (25 April, 5 May, 7 May, 12 May, 15 May) and after this period (3 October, 7 November, 2 December), the BPF layer was not recorded.  相似文献

Stable isotope analysis is frequently used as a complementary method of dietary analysis, to describe trophic relationships and assess food-web structure. These studies allow a precise determination, based on the calculation of a diet-tissue fractionation factor. The fractionation factor, determined for whole organisms or specific tissues, may vary substantially in natura. In the present study, delta13C and delta15N were assessed in lipid-free tissues (spleen, liver, viscera, scales, gills, spine, white muscle, brain) and in available energy reserves (proteins, glycogen, lipids) of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) reared under controlled conditions and fed for 4 months with the same artificial diet. Some discrepancies in delta15N and delta13C data were observed among tissues, respectively up to 3.43 per thousand and 2.54 per thousand for delta15N and delta13C. The 15N signature in organs depends on their metabolic activity. Despite a significant delta13C enrichment from feed to tissues, the lipids in spine, liver and viscera exhibit a certain stability.  相似文献

The swimming excursions of individual perch, measured automatically, within either cages in Windermere or in a trough on the shore, showed increases at dawn and dusk and in the summer. Similar measurements in troughs in the laboratory showed increased activity following a change from light to dark and vice versa, a pattern that was obliterated by either continuous light or continuous darkness. These results are discussed in relation to water temperature and catches of perch in traps.  相似文献

Several recent studies have highlighted how impaired cardiac performance at high temperatures and in hypoxia may compromise the capacity for oxygen transport. Thus, at high temperatures impaired cardiac capacity is proposed to reduce oxygen transport to a degree that lowers aerobic scope and compromises thermal tolerance (the oxygen- and capacity-limited thermal tolerance (OCLTT) hypothesis). To investigate this hypothesis, we measured aerobic and cardiac performance of a eurythermal freshwater teleost, the European perch (Perca fluviatilis). Rates of oxygen consumption were measured during rest and activity at temperatures between 5 °C and 27 °C, and we evaluated cardiac function by in vivo measurements of heart rate and in vitro studies to determine contractility of myocardial strips. Aerobic scope increased progressively from 5 °C to 21 °C, after which it levelled off. Heart rate showed a similar response. We found little difference between resting and active heart rate at high temperature suggesting that increased cardiac scope during activity is primarily related to changes in stroke volume. To examine the effects of temperature on cardiac capacity, we measured isometric force development in electrically paced myocardial preparations during different combinations of temperature, pacing frequency, oxygenation and adrenergic stimulation. The force-frequency product increased markedly upon adrenergic stimulation at 21 and 27 °C (with higher effects at 21 °C) and the cardiac preparations were highly sensitive to hypoxia. These findings suggest that at (critically) high temperatures, cardiac output may diminish due to a decreased effect of adrenergic stimulation and that this effect may be further exacerbated if the heart becomes hypoxic. Hence cardiac limitations may contribute to the inability to increase aerobic scope at high temperatures in the European perch (Perca fluviatilis).  相似文献

Oxygen uptake () and critical oxygen tension (Pcrit) were measured in resting perch Perca fluviatilis that were either fasting or digesting. Digestion caused to double (from 61 to 117 mg O2 kg?1h?1) and was associated with a rise in Pcrit (from 3·4 to 4·9 kPa), showing that the animal's digestive state must be considered when assessing the effect of hypoxia in natural conditions, and when defining optimal oxygen conditions in aquaculture.  相似文献

The unusual yellow‐finned morph of European perch Perca fluviatilis found in Lake Constance suffers more severely from macroparasite infections, including the tapeworm Triaenophorus nodulosus and the gill worm Ancyrocephalus percae, than conspecifics elsewhere. Microsatellite analysis of yellow‐finned P. fluviatilis and red‐finned variant recently discovered in Lake Constance revealed significant genetic differentiation. Red‐finned P. fluviatilis and fish with mixed fin colour, suggested backcrosses between red and yellow‐finned colour morphs, exhibit better resilience to parasite infection, suggesting that the inability of the yellow‐finned morph to reject macroparasites may have a genetic basis.  相似文献

The variation of reproductive strategies in different populations of perch and intrapopulation groups differing in the rate of growth have been analyzed. Using a bioenergetic approach, the origin and differences between these groups have been studied. It was shown that bioenergetic mechanisms of regulation of the sizes and weight of the eggs lead to formation of the strategy of forced reproduction in the slow-growing group of perch, unlike the reproductive strategy of the fast-growing group of perch characterized by a later reaching of sexual maturity at a greater relative weight of gonads and spawning of larger eggs, which provides for a longer lifespan of larvae. The great number of age groups in the spawning part of this group compensates for a decrease in reproduction in years with unfavorable conditions.  相似文献

Intra-lake variations in physiological parameters, representing haematology, plasma ion composition and carbohydrate metabolism, were investigated in perch (Perca fluviatilis), inhabiting a comparatively unpolluted lake. Provided the perch were subjected to a standardized procedure for capture, handling, recovery after capture, and sampling, only few and minor differences were observed in 21 parameters investigated when 3 groups were compared to a control group of perch. It is concluded that the experimental design used is suitable for the examination of the physiological status of perch in the field.  相似文献

We tested the feeding behaviour of small European perch (Perca fluviatilis) in a laboratory study during the first 24 h after handling and 23 mm passive integrated transponder (PIT) tag implantation. Feeding commenced almost immediately following tagging and overall feeding patterns were unaffected by tagging. However, untagged perch had more feeding events than PIT-tagged individuals. This discrepancy could be attributed to post-tagging effects or/and reduced room for food due to the presence of the tag in the body cavity.  相似文献

The timing of spawning of perch was examined in four acidified lakes (pH 4.4–4.8) and in one circum-neutral lake (pH 6.3) in southern Finland in spring 1987. In three of the lakes, perch started to spawn soon after the ice melt (4–14 degree days > 5° C) and had spawned by the end of May at about 100 degree days > 5° C. In the two most acidified lakes, fish started to spawn later, at 35 and 60 degree days > 5° C, and had spawned in early June, at about 200 degree days > 5° C.
