The plasticities of 16 characters were studied in four maize(Zea mays, L.) hybrids grown at seven equidistant spacings andat four growth stages in 1 year. Plasticity was a measure ofthe extent to which the expression of a character was modifiedby changes in plant density. The hybrids differed in their plasticitiesfor all characters studied. Furthermore, the characters of ahybrid showed different plasticities. The most plastic characterswere grain yield per plant and yield per unit area, and theleast plastic were ear row number and ear height. The hierarchyof plasticities was essentially identical in all hybrids. Thedouble-cross hybrids showed non-significantly higher mean plasticitiesthan the less heterogeneous genotypes M.C. 101 and Warwick SL209.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to estimate the general combining ability of the parents and specific combining ability of hybrids for earliness traits for line selection. Inheritance and interrelationships of earliness characters were evaluated in a line x tester design. Three intermediate-early-maturing female (lines) which are grown regionally and four early-maturing males (testers) cotton varieties were crossed in 2003. The twelve F(1) and seven parents were planted randomized block design with three replications in 2004. For each earliness trait, general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability and gene effects were estimated using the line x tester method of analysis and also were determined heterosis and narrow sense heritability. Parents and their hybrids (except the monopodial branch) were significant for all the earliness traits studied. Estimates of variance due to GCA and SCA and their ratio revealed predominantly non-additive gene effects for date of first square, date of first flowers and harvested rate of first picking. Among the lines, Ersan 92 and Maras 92 and among the testers Acala Royal was found to be the best general combiners for most of the earliness characters. Four out of twelve crosses namely Ersan 92 x Chirpan 603, Ersan 92 x Acala Maxa, Maras 92 x Acala Royal and Nazilli 87 x Acala Royal were found to be the best crosses for investigated earliness characters.  相似文献

Fourteen somatic hybrids generated by electrofusion of mesophyll protoplasts from a non-flowering dihaploid S. tuberosum clone, DHAK-11, and a male-sterile dihaploid clone S. tuberosum, DHAK-33, were grown in the greenhouse and subjected to morphological assessments and tests for fertility and resistance to the white potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida pathotypes Pa2 and Pa3. The ploidy level of the hybrids ranged from 38 to 63 chromosomes. All hybrids developed flowers with violet petals except for one, hy-56, that possessed red petals. The colour of the tuber skin was purple in all hybrids except in hy-56 where the tuber skin was red. All of the hybrids were female fertile and generated viable seeds. Near-tetraploid hybrids produced the highest number of seeds per fruit and these seeds had a normal size. Hybrids with 58 or more chromosomes produced smaller seeds and less seeds per fruit. The germination frequency of the seeds was not influenced by the chromosome number of the hybrids. Pollen viability was determined and the male fertility of three hybrids was tested. Pollination with these three hybrids gave rise to fruit development, but only one produced viable seeds. The hybrids were tested for resistance to G. pallida pathotypes Pa2 and Pa3. A high level of resistance to Pa3, inherited from one parental clone, DHAK-11, and a high level of resistance to Pa2, inherited from the other parental clone, DHAK-33, was combined in four hybrids. These results demonstrate, that protoplast fusion is an efficient method for restoring the fertility of somatic hybrids generated from sterile parent clones, and is a powerful procedure for the complementation of multigenetic disease resistance traits in potato breeding lines.  相似文献

The genetic analysis of 5 tomato hybrids (Danubius F1, Luna F1, Lido F1, Balkan F1 and Mi-10 F1) was made. We produced their F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations and analysed their yield (on the first three flower branches) as well as some of the yield components of tomato fruits (mean fruit weight, mean fruit weight on the first flower branch, fruit length, fruit width, and number of locules). In order to estimate the gene effects, we applied the additive-dominance mode with three and six parameters. Epistatic gene effects were estimated by applying the six-parameter mode (Mather and Jinks 1982). As for yield and yield components, there were significant differences between the mean values of parents and their progeny. On the basis of the investigated genetic parameters, the obtained results suggested that the additive and dominance gene effects prevailed in the yield and yield components (Danubius F1, Luna F1, Lido F1, Mi-10 F1), whereas epistatic gene effects were excluded. As for the hybrid Balkan F1, we recorded significant gene effects, both the additive and the dominance ones in the yield inheritance: additive x additive and dominance x dominance (with the negative sign). The estimated values of the epistatic gene effects were the most prominent in inheriting the feature average fruit weight on the first flower branch — additive x dominance gene effects. They represented the most frequent type of the interallele interaction recorded in the investigated hybrids.  相似文献

Summary A study was made of the nature of variation and changes in association for characters related to yield, development and disease resistance in two sets of progenies one set derived through biparental mating (A-series) and the other by traditional inbreeding (selfing) from the F2 onwards (T-series), in a 22 × 22 diallel of dwarf derivatives of Pennisetum typhoides S & H. Comparison of means and variances within and between the two groups of progenies (A and T-series) and with those of released hybrids (HB-1, HB-2, HB-3, HB-4) for seventeen characters (six related to development, six to productivity, three to vegetative growth and one each to earliness and disease incidence) showed significant variation among the lines of the two series for synchrony of tillering, earliness, disease incidence, chlorophyll depth, grain hairiness, tiller number, plant height, length of earhead, grain yield and grain weight. The A-series selections were significantly superior to the T-series for most of the characters, indicating the effectiveness of selection in biparental matings compared with selection in selfed progenies for these traits. Many of the A-series (220 out of 800) selections were also superior to the existing released hybrids.Changes in the magnitude and nature of association among twelve important characters in the two populations were more favourable in the biparental matings: of 66 possible correlation coefficients examined, 25 cases were found with changes in favour of selections from biparental matings (A-series). These changes were probably due to the breakage of unfavourable linkages and changes in phase of linkage, and indicate the usefulness of biparental matings in the simultaneous improvement of the population for several attributes.  相似文献

Summary Thirty-five hexaploid and twenty octoploid primary triticales (xTriticosecale Wittmack) derived from homozygous wheat and rye inbred lines were used (1) to investigate the parental wheat, rye, and interaction effects and (2) to estimate quantitative genetic parameters for agronomic traits. The winter triticales were tested in four environments in a three-replicate split-plot design with drilled 1 m2 plots. Superior performance of hexaploid triticales as compared to the octoploids was revealed. Substantial genetic variation and high heritability estimates were found for nearly all of the characters investigated. Estimates of wheat, rye, and wheat×rye interaction variance components disclosed parental main effects to be the most important source of genetic variation in primary triticales. The rye parent was dominant for all characters affecting fertility, and the wheat parent was more important for vegetative development. Character correlations were very similar for triticales of both ploidy levels. The lack of association between grain yield and tillering and the positive correlation between kernels per spike and thousand kernel weight indicated physiological disorders specific for primary triticales.  相似文献

Summary In order to produce fertile somatic hybrids, mesophyll protoplasts from eggplant were electrofused with those from one of its close related species, Solanum aethiopicum L. Aculeatum group. On the basis of differences in the cultural behavior of the parental and hybrid protoplasts, 35 somatic hybrid plants were recovered from 85 selected calli. When taken to maturity either in the greenhouse or in the field, the hybrid plants were vigorous, all rapidly overtopping parental individuals. The putative hybrids were intermediate with respect to morphological traits, and all of their organs were larger, particularly the leaves and stems. DNA analysis of the hybrids using flow cytometry in combination with cytological analysis showed that 32 were tetraploids, 1 hexaploid and 2 mixoploids. The hybrid nature of the 35 selected plants was confirmed by a comparison of the isoenzyme patterns of isocitrate dehydrogenase (Idh), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-Pgd) and phosphoglucomutase (Pgm). Chloroplast DNA (ctDNA) restriction analysis using Bam HI revealed that among the 27 hybrid plants analyzed, 10 had S. aethiopicum patterns and the 17 remaining hybrids exhibited bands identical with those of eggplant without any changes. All of the somatic hybrid plants flowered. Both parental plants had 94% stainable pollen, while the hybrids varied widely in pollen viability ranging from 30% to 85%. The somatic hybrids showed high significant variation in fruit production. Nevertheless, there was a tendency for low fertility to be associated often with S. aethiopicum chloroplast type and/or with an abnormal ploidy level, while good fertility was mostly associated with the tetraploid level and eggplant chloroplasts. Interestingly, 2 tetraploid somatic hybrid clones were among the most productive, yielding up to 9 kg/plant. As far as the fertility of the F1 sexual counterpart was concerned, only 2 fruits of 50 g were obtained. Hybrid fertility in relation to phylogenetic affinities of the fusion partners is discussed.  相似文献

Barley doubled haploids covering a wide range of malting quality, along with their parental cultivars and F2, F3 hybrids, were investigated in six environments (three locations, two years) to study the genotype-environment (G x E) interaction structure and the influence of environments on additive, dominance and epistatic gene effects. Grain and malt characters, such as 1000-grain weight, percentage of plump kernels, malt extract yield, protein content, Kolbach index and malt fine-coarse difference (FCD), were measured. Main effects for genetic parameters were estimated and regression analysis was used to explain the interaction of gene effects with environments. The results show that additive effects had the greatest interaction with environments for all the analysed traits, but only for malt characters this interaction was linear. Interaction of dominance effects was much lower and only in the case of 1000-grain weight, protein content and Kolbach index it proved to be significant. The results suggest that effects of heterozygous loci are more stable in contrasting environments than effects of homozygous loci.  相似文献

 Selfed and backcross progenies developed from tetraploid somatic hybrids between Solanum tuberosum (tbr) and S. commersonii (cmm) were characterized for nonacclimated freezing tolerance (NA) and acclimation capacity (ACC) (two independent genetic components of freezing tolerance) under controlled environments. The segregation covered 28% and 71% of the parental range for NA and ACC, respectively, with the distribution skewed toward the tbr parent. Therefore, ACC appeared to be relatively easier to recover in the segregating generation. Some first backcross progeny had greater freezing tolerance than the cultivated parent primarily through the increase in ACC. When grown in the field, the improved freezing tolerance observed in the selfed progeny under controlled conditions was confirmed. Among NA, ACC, and freezing tolerance after acclimation (AA, which is the cumulative performance of NA and ACC), AA exhibited the highest correlation coefficient with field frost tolerance. In addition to freezing tolerance, vine maturity and tuber traits including tuber yield, tuber number per plant, mean tuber weight, and specific gravity were also segregating. No significant correlation between undesirable tuber traits and freezing tolerance was detected. Vine maturity and freezing tolerance were significantly correlated, so more careful selection for earliness was necessary in incorporating freezing tolerance. Yield comparable or superior to the backcross parent Wis AG 231 and an early Canadian cultivar, ‘Sable’, was found in many backcross progeny and some selfed progeny. The observed high yield can be attributed to the increase in mean tuber weight as well as tuber number. Moreover, a high portion of progeny had a specific gravity higher than 1.085, and some greater than 1.1. Earliness per se regulates flowering time independent of environmental signals and helps to fine tune the time of flowering and maturity. In this study, we aimed to map earliness per se quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting days to flowering and maturity in a population developed by crossing two spring wheat cultivars, Cutler and AC Barrie. The population of 177 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) was genotyped for a total of 488 SSR and DArT polymorphic markers on all 21 chromosomes. Three QTLs of earliness per se affecting days to flowering and maturity were mapped on chromosomes 1B (QEps.dms-1B1 and QEps.dms-1B2) and 5B (QEps.dms-5B1), in individual environments and when all the environments were combined. A QTL affecting flowering time (QFlt.dms-4A1) was identified on chromosome 4A. Two grain yield QTLs were mapped on chromosome 5B, while one QTL was mapped on chromosome 1D. The population segregated for the photoperiod insensitive gene, Ppd-D1a, and it induced earlier flowering by 0.69 days and maturity by 1.28 days. The photoperiod insensitive allele Ppd-D1a interacted in an additive fashion with QTLs for flowering and maturity times. The earliness per se QTL QFlt.dms-5B.1 inducing earlier flowering could help to elongate grain filling duration for higher grain yield. Hence, chromosome 5B possesses promising genomic regions that may be introgressed for higher grain yield with earlier maturity through marker-assisted selection in bread wheat.  相似文献

Electrofusion was used to obtain somatic hybrids between Solanum etuberosum (2n=2x=24) and two diploid potato lines. These hybridizations were conducted to determine if haploidxwild species hybrids are better fusion partners than conventional S. tuberosumGp. Tuberosum haploids. Restriction fragment length polymerase (RFLP) analyses of the putative somatic hybrids confirmed that each parental genome was present. The somatic hybrids between S. etuberosum and a haploid S. tuberosum clone, US-W730, were stunted and had curled, purple leaves. In contrast, somatic hybrids between S. etuberosum and a haploidxwild species hybrid (US-W 730 haploidx S. berthaultii), were vigorous and generally tuberized under field conditions. These hybrids were designated as E+BT somatic hybrids. Analyses of 23 E+BT somatic hybrids revealed a statistically significant bias towards the retention of S. etuberosum chloroplasts. Stylar incompatibilities were observed when the E+BT somatic hybrids were used as pollen donors in crosses with S. tuberosum cultivars. Reciprocal crosses did not show this incompatibility. The progeny were vigorous and had improved tuber traits when compared to the maternal E+BT parent. RFLP analyses of three sexual progeny lines confirmed the presence of all 12 S. etuberosum chromosomes. In two of these lines, RFLPs that marked each of the 24 chromosome arms of S. etuberosum were present. However, RFLP markers specific for regions on chromosomes 2, 7, and 11 were missing from the third clone. Because other markers for these chromosomes were present in the progeny line, these results indicated the likelihood of pairing and recombination between S. etuberosum and S. tuberosum chromosomes.  相似文献

为明确油棕鲜果穗产量构成因素之间的关系,利用相关性、回归和通径等分析方法,对58株油棕单株鲜果穗产量与其它性状相关性进行了研究。结果表明:油棕鲜果穗产量与鲜果穗重和每株果穗数的相关性最为密切。另外,在油棕高产品种选育过程中,应着重对平均果穗重、每株果穗数、果实大小和含油量等性状进行选择,并综合权衡这些产量性状之间的相互作用。产量性状变异和相关性分析表明,平均种壳厚度变异程度最大(88.34%),平均果长变异最小(11.99%),鲜果穗产量与鲜果穗重、每株果穗数、平均果重呈极显著正相关关系(0.882**,0.714**,0.439**),与平均果长呈显著正相关关系(0.334*)。多元线性回归和通径分析结果表明,通过比较多元线性回归方程的相关参数,建立了可实用的最优多元线性回归方程x_1=-281.511+2.787x_4+3.455x_5-2.672x_6+0.411x_7+6.690x_8+3.664x_9,平均鲜果穗重和每株果穗数对单株鲜果穗产量的直接作用最大(0.670,0.439),其它性状对单株产量的直接作用较小,平均果重和平均果长对单株鲜果穗产量的间接作用最大(0.335,0.322)。该研究结果为油棕高产品种选育提供了依据。  相似文献

Theoretical studies suggest that marker-assisted selection (MAS) has case-specific advantages over phenotypic selection (PHE) for selection of quantitative traits. However, few studies have been conducted that empirically compare these selection methods in the context of a plant breeding program. For direct comparison of the effectiveness of MAS and PHE, four cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.; 2n = 2x = 14) inbred lines were intermated and then maternal bulks were used to create four base populations for recurrent mass selection. Each of these populations then underwent three cycles of PHE (open-field evaluations), MAS (genotyping at 18 marker loci), and random mating without selection. Both MAS and PHE were practiced for yield indirectly by selecting for four yield-component traits that are quantitatively inherited with 2–6 quantitative trait loci per trait. These traits were multiple lateral branching, gynoecious sex expression (gynoecy), earliness, and fruit length to diameter ratio. Both MAS and PHE were useful for multi-trait improvement, but their effectiveness depended upon the traits and populations under selection. Both MAS and PHE provided improvements in all traits under selection in at least one population, except for earliness, which did not respond to MAS. The populations with maternal parents that were inferior for a trait responded favorably to both MAS and PHE, while those with maternal parents of superior trait values either did not change or decreased during selection. Generally, PHE was most effective for gynoecy, earliness, and fruit length to diameter ratio, while MAS was most effective for multiple lateral branching and provided the only increase in yield (fruit per plant). Summary Two sets of somatic hybrids between Solanum brevidens (2x) and S. tuberosum (2x and 4x) were evaluated for male fertility, meiotic regularity and female fertility. The somatic hybrids were tetraploids from 2x + 2x fusions and hexaploids from 2x + 4x fusions. Pollen stainability ranged from 0 to 83% in tetraploids and from 0 to 23% in hexaploids. The tetraploids had more regular meiosis, lower levels of micropollen and fewer unassociated chromosomes than hexaploids. However, except for a low level of selfing, the pollen of both sets of hybrids was ineffective in pollinations. The tetraploids, as females, crossed poorly with 2x and 4x tester species and selfed only at low levels. The hexaploid fusion hybrids also crossed poorly with the 2x tester species and selfed only to a limited degree; however, they crossed well with 4x testers. Seed set in crosses with S. tuberosum Group Andigena, and S. tuberosum Group Tuberosum cultivars Kathadin and Norland averaged 16.7, 15.6 and 28.6 seeds per fruit, respectively. Progeny from these crosses had 5x or nearly 5x ploidy levels. Multi-environmental experimentation made it possible to compare 311 hybrids and their 59 parental lines for five characters: yield, two yield components (number of grains per m2 and 1000-grain weight), height and date of heading. At all three sites, average high-parent heterosis exceeded 6%, and our results confirm that hybrids in general head as early as the earlier parent does and are as high as the taller parent. For the five characters studied ecovalences were significantly lower in the F1 than in the parents, indicating a higher level of homeostasis for hybrids. The experimental model, based on a ”top-cross” design comprised of 55 lines used as females and four testers, made it possible to implement different hybrid-value prediction models. For yield, by far the most important character to predict, the predictor based on the general combining ability and the per se value of the parents, appears to be the most interesting. The prediction remains, however, imperfect as specific combining ability (SCA) has a strong impact for this character. Attempting to take account of SCA in the prediction, by using a multiplicative model for ”male×female” interaction modelling, did not prove convincing. Summary Sixty families from two tomato triple test crosses (S120 x EC61747 and EC31513 x Tusa Ruby) were raised in complete randomized blocks in two replications and two environments (two fertilizer levels). Jinks and Perkins' (1970) analysis was used to detect and estimate the additive, dominance and epistatic components of genetic variation for flowering time, maturity period, number of branches per plant, final height, shape index of fruit, locule number, number of fruits per plant, yield per plant and weight per fruit. The j & 1 type epistasis was more important than the i type epistasis in the first cross, while in the second cross the two components of epistasis played almost equal roles in the control of characters studied. Both the D (additive) and H (dominance) components were significant for most of the characters in both crosses and in both the environments. The D component was relatively more important than the H component in the first cross, while the situation was just the reverse in the second cross. Dominance was directional in 8 out of 36 cases. Ambidirectional dominance was observed in 27 cases. A real absence of dominance was observed in one case only.  相似文献

为进行星油藤(Plukenetia volubilis L.)良种选育,对其蒴果和种子的性状变异进行了研究。结果表明,星油藤蒴果中4、5、6裂片果分别为49.71%、37.69%和12.60%,以4和5裂片为主;种子性状变异系数比果实的小,种子性状比果实更稳定。按果裂片类型统计,以4裂片的性状变异系数最小,性状也较为稳定,性状分化变异率有54.19%~95.63%来自蒴果间,而果实和种子性状分化变异率分别有79.81%~95.76%和67.66%~93.0%来源于裂片类型,性状分化变异受裂片数影响大,而相同裂片数不同蒴果间的变异程度低。不同裂片类型的果实与种子大多数性状间均存在显著或极显著差异,果裂数是造成性状差异的主要原因。种子萌发率以6裂片果5裂片果4裂片果,平均萌发率超过91%;种子萌发率与单果重、单果重与果形态指标、种子重与种子形态性状间均存在极显著正相关关系,其中单果重对果厚、种子重对种子宽的影响大于其它性状。综合分析星油藤以4裂片果的生物产量最高,平均果重和种子重均好于其他类型。  相似文献

Summary Responses of egg plant crop to 3 irrigation rhythms based on the daily potential evapotranspiration were investigated. Results showed that the shorter the rhythm (5 times per week) the better the plant growth expressed in terms of plant length (Fig. 2) and/or yield shown as fruit number (Fig. 3) or fruit fresh weight (Fig. 4). The twice per week rhythm gave the medium, whereas the 10 days one gave the least plant growth and yield. Also the frequent rhythm (5 times per week) gave an earlier crop presented as flower-setting (Table 2).The three rhythms did not show an effect on crop quality expressed as mineral content of leaf blades, petioles or fruits. Summary Asymmetric somatic hybrids were obtained by fusion of Solanum tuberosum (PDH40) protoplasts with 300- or 500-Gy irradiated protoplasts of S. brevidens. These radiation doses were sufficient to prevent the growth of the S. brevidens protoplasts. Putative hybrids were selected on the basis of phenotype from regenerated shoots and identified with a S. brevidens-specific probe. From these, 31 asymmetric hybrids were confirmed by morphological characteristics, isoenzyme patterns and RFLP analysis. The morphology of the asymmetric hybrids was intermediate between that of S. tuberosum and symmetric hybrids of both species (obtained without irradiation treatment). Chromosome counts from 17 asymmetric hybrids showed that the chromosome number of the hybrids ranged from 31 to 64. The asymmetric hybrids probably had one or two genome complements (i.e. either 24 or 48 chromosomes) from S. tuberosum and 7–22 chromosomes from S. brevidens. There was no clear correlation between the radiation dose and the degree of elimination of the S. brevidens genome.  相似文献
