This research was conducted to determine the water consumption of tomato plants, the effects of water stress on stem sap flow (SF) and its response to climatic factors. SFs in 100% irrigation (T1), 75% (T2) and 50% (T3) of irrigation amount of T1 were monitored using Dynagage sensors. Compared to T1, the difference in SF was observed under deficit irrigation in the same climatic conditions on sunny days although there was no apparent difference between T1 and T2 on cloudy days. Under T1, the correlation and regression relationships between SF and climatic factors were analyzed at daytime (6:00–22:00), morning (6:00–14:00) and afternoon (14:00–22:00). Considering daytime, the order of sensitive indicators to SF was VPD?>?LI?>?Ta and LI?>?VPD?>?Ta for the Fall-Winter sunny days and Spring-Summer season, respectively. The water uptake over SFs measured for Fall-Winter and Spring-Summer periods were calculated as 168.65 and 229.18?mm, respectively.  相似文献

Thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) plasma concentrations have been determined during 24-hr sampling periods in six mongrels (age 12-36 months), six beagles (age 35-37 months), three labradors (age 3.5 months) and three beagles (age 5 months). The mean T4 levels of the labradors were significantly lower than the values found for mongrels or older beagles (P < 0.05), whereas T3 was higher in the 5 month old beagles compared to the mongrels (P < 0.001), young beagles (P < 0.05) or labradors (P < 0.01).

Circadian and ultradian rhythmicities have been evaluated by cosinor and Fourier analysis. Mongrels and older beagles did have a 12-hr rhythmicity in plasma T4 (P < 0.05), whereas 5 month old beagles had a circadian one (P < 0.01). A 12-hr rhythmicity was also found for T3 in the older Beagles (P < 0.05). However, Fourier analysis indicated that the daily variation in T4 and T3 plasma levels was inadequately mathematically described by single sinusoidal rhythm and that more harmonic components are to be taken into account.

The obtained data during a 24-hr period indicate that T4 and T3 concentrations in plasma may vary according to breed, age and sampling hour.  相似文献

The effects of fish farming on chemical and biological variables of the water column were investigated in three coastal locations along the Mediterranean (Spain, Italy and Greece). Analyses of nutrients, chlorophyll a, particulate organic carbon and nitrogen (POC and PON), heterotrophic bacteria and cyanobacteria (Synechococcus) were carried out on integrated samples (0–30 m depth) taken at various distances from fish farms and the respective reference sites. At one of these sites, water samples were collected by means of Niskin bottles at 09:00, 13:00 and 16:00 h and at three different depths (0 m, 10 m and bottom). Integrated sampling showed no significant changes with distance in any of the variables measured, whereas all variables except PON showed significant changes between the three locations studied. However, changes were found in samples taken by Niskin bottles, with increased concentrations of NH4+, POC, PON and decreased cyanobacteria densities at the surface layer in the immediate vicinity of the cages. Samples taken at the cages in the afternoon showed increased PO43− concentrations in comparison to those taken in the morning. Dilution and grazing are probably both responsible for the lack of detectable signs of eutrophication.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to understand the potential of vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) in heavy metal uptake from the soil and wastewater. Four main irrigation treatments including T1 (treated industrial wastewater), T2 (1:1 ratio of municipal:industrial wastewater), T3 (treated municipal wastewater) and T4 (fresh water) were applied. Moreover, the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF), Glomus mosseae, on plant growth and heavy metal concentration was evaluated. Three main criteria including bioconcentration factor (BCF), translocation factor (TF) and heavy metal uptake were applied to assess the potential of vetiver grass in accumulation and translocation of heavy metals to aerial parts. The highest concentration of heavy metals was found in plant and soil irrigated with T1 treatment followed by T2, T3 and the lowest concentrations were found in T4 treatment. Irrigation with treated municipal wastewater led to a significant increase in plant biomass and heavy metal uptake compared to other treatments. In T1 treatment (industrial wastewater), vetiver grass caused a significant decrease in Zn, Fe, Cu, Cd and Pb concentrations in soil as compared to no-plant treatment (without planting vetiver grass). Therefore, vetiver grass, irrigated with treated industrial wastewater, is a promising method for the development of urban and industrial green space.  相似文献

Digoxin, frequently used in the treatment of congestive heart failure, has a very narrow therapeutic index. We studied the differences in digoxin pharmacokinetics when ingested in the morning versus evening. A single digoxin (0.25 mg) dose was given orally to the same group of 10 diurnally active healthy (6 male and 4 female) volunteers in the morning at 08:00 and evening at 20:00 in separate experiments scheduled 2 weeks apart. Blood samples were collected at specific times for 48h after each timed dose; digoxin was determined by radioimmunoassay (RIA). Maximum plasma concentration Cmax; Tmax, the time to reach Cmax; area under plasma concentration curve AUC; and elimination half-time T1/2 of digoxin were determined. Tmax was statistically significantly shorter (54 min) following 08:00 dosing compared to 20:00 dosing (96 min). Although the Cmax was higher after morning than evening dosing, it was not significantly so. No other parameter of digoxin pharmacokinetics except Tmax exhibited administration time dependency. The aim of this study was to investigate the variations in plasma triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) with the advancement of age and to determine their circadian patterns in prepubertal and pubertal Murrah buffaloes. The variations in plasma T3 and T4 with the advancement of age were observed from day 1 to 24 months of age. Significant higher levels of T3 and T4 were observed after birth and a gradual decrease in their concentrations occurred until 15 days of age. The mean plasma T3 and T4 ranged between 1.26–3.79 and 60.7–166 ng/ml, respectively, during 1–30 days of age. During 1–24 months of age, the variations in plasma T3 did not differ (p > 0.05) with the advancement of age, whereas significant (p < 0.0001) changes were observed in plasma T4. The circadian patterns of T3 and T4 were evaluated in prepubertal Murrah buffaloes (n = 8) aged between 14 and 16 months. The mean plasma T3 and T4 ranged between 1.04–1.85 and 43.0–76.1 ng/ml, respectively. Significant (p > 0.0001) changes in the secretory pattern of T3 were observed, whereas the secretory pattern of T4 did not differ significantly (p > 0.05). In addition, the circadian patterns of T3 and T4 in pubertal buffaloes (n = 4) aged between 28 and 30 months were observed and compared to that of prepubertal group (n = 4). Diurnal patterns of leaf water potential (W), canopy net photosynthetic rate (P N), evapotranspiration rate (E), canopy temperature (Tc), and water use efficiency (WUE) of clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub., cv. Desi] were studied at six phenological stages of plant development under field conditions at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. The highest P N, E, and WUE were observed at pod initiation stage (61 DAS). Daily maxima of P N were usually between 11:00 to 14:00 h while those of E and WUE between 12:30 and 16:00 h. P N was mainly dependent on photosynthetically active radiation and E on air temperature (Ta) but the relationships varied at different growth stages. WUE declined with the increase in T a. 以模式作物烟草(Nicotiana tabacum)为试材,采用水培试验,以营养液含钼0.20mg·kg-1作为对照(CK),0mg·kg-1为缺钼处理(T),研究缺钼对旺长期烟草光合色素、叶绿素荧光日变化和叶片细胞亚显微结构的影响,以揭示钼对旺长期烟草光合作用影响及其作用机理。结果显示:(1)缺钼处理烟叶的叶绿素和类胡萝卜素含量显著低于施钼烟叶。(2)缺钼烟叶的日净光合速率(Pn)下降早于对照,而且回升较慢;施钼烟叶的Pn呈典型双峰日变化。(3)施钼烟叶的最大光化学效率(Fv/Fm)比较稳定;光合电子传递速率(ETR)和光合有效量子产量(Y)在14:00较低,16:00略有回升;初始荧光(F0)和非光化学猝灭系数(NPQ)在12:00~14:00略微增加,18:00恢复到8:00的水平。缺钼烟叶Fv/Fm在12:00明显降低,16:00后开始有所回升;10:00后,其ETR和Y开始下降,F0和NPQ急剧增加,16:00后开始有所降低,18:00未恢复到8:00的水平。(4)缺钼烟叶细胞亚显微结构的基粒片层和基质片层膨胀变形、松散,淀粉粒少而且发育差;施钼烟叶片层结构排列整齐,淀粉粒发育好。研究表明,旺长期缺钼烟叶的光合色素含量降低,细胞结构发育不良,叶绿素荧光受强光和高温反应敏感,净光合速率降低,光合碳同化产物减少。  相似文献

ObjectiveSulfate conjugation of thyroid hormones is an alternate metabolic pathway that facilitates the biliary and urinary excretion of iodothyronines and enhances their deiodination rate, leading to the generation of inactive metabolites. A desulfating pathway reverses this process, and thyromimetic effects have been observed following the parenteral administration of 3,5,3′-triiodothyronine (T3) sulfate (T3S) in rats. The present study investigated whether T3S is absorbed after oral administration in humans and if it represents a source of T3.MethodsTwenty-eight hypothyroid patients (7 men and 21 women; mean age, 44 ± 11 years) who had a thyroidectomy for thyroid carcinoma were enrolled. Replacement thyroid hormone therapy was withdrawn (42 days for thyroxine, 14 days for T3) prior to 131I remnant ablation. A single oral dose of 20, 40, 80 (4 patients/group), or 160 μg (16 patients/group) of T3S was administered 3 days before the planned administration of 131I. Blood samples for serum T3S and total T3 (TT3) concentrations were obtained at various times up to 48 hours after T3S administration.ResultsAt all T3S doses, serum T3S concentrations increased, reaching a peak at 2 to 4 hours and progressively returning to basal levels within 8 to 24 hours. The T3S maximum concentration (Cmax) and area under the 0-to 48-hour concentration-time curve (AUC0-48h) were directly and significantly related to the administered dose. An increase in serum TT3 concentration was observed (significant after 1 hour), and the concentration increased further at 2 and 4 hours and then remained steady up to 48 hours after T3S administration. There was a significant direct correlation between the TT3 AUC0-48h and the administered dose of T3S. No changes in serum free thyroxine (T4) concentrations during the entire study period were observed, whereas serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels increased slightly at 48 hours, but this was not related to the dose of T3S. No adverse events were reported.Conclusion(1) T3S is absorbed following oral administration in hypothyroid humans; (2) after a single oral dose, T3S is converted to T3 in a dose-dependent manner, resulting in steady-state serum T3 concentrations for 48 hours; (3) T3S may represent a new agent in combination with T4 in the therapy of hypothyroidism, if similar conversion of T3S to T3 can be demonstrated in euthyroid patients who are already taking T4. The hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis has specific functions, mostly related to metabolic activities, cell differentiation, and development. To the authors’ knowledge, there are no studies about thyroid hormone (TH) concentrations in foals affected by perinatal asphyxia syndrome (PAS). Hence, the aims of the study are (1) to evaluate plasma TH concentrations (T3 and T4) in healthy foals during the first 7 days of life; (2) to evaluate plasma TH concentration (T3 and T4) in critically ill foals affected by PAS during the first 7 days of hospitalization; and (3) to compare TH concentrations between surviving and nonsurviving critically ill foals. Forty-five Standardbred foals were enrolled in this prospective observational study: 21 healthy foals (group 1) and 24 foals affected by PAS (group 2). Jugular blood samples were collected within 10 minutes from birth/admission and every 24 hours for 7 days (t0–t7). TH concentrations were analyzed by RIA. In both groups, T3 concentration was significantly lower at t4, t5, t6, and t7 compared with t1 (P < 0.05), and T4 concentration was significantly higher at birth than at all other time points (P < 0.01). No differences were found in TH concentrations at admission between surviving (n = 20) and nonsurviving (n = 4) foals. Statistical comparison between healthy and PAS foals divided into age groups showed significantly lower TH concentrations at t0 in PAS foals <12 hours old at admission (P < 0.01). In conclusion, PAS may cause lower T3 and T4 concentrations in affected foals than in age-matched healthy foals, as reported for other systemic illnesses, such as sepsis and prematurity. TH concentrations showed no prognostic value, which maybe due to the small number of nonsurviving foals in this study. Further studies are needed to find out if thyroid replacement therapy could be useful in the treatment of critically ill foals affected by PAS.  相似文献

Catheters were placed in the jugular vein and femoral artery of male Sprague-Dawley rats and connected to a specially designed perfusor for continuous constant infusion of 0.9% NaCl and a syringe to perform simultaneous and intermittent blood collections. This permitted continuous 24-h study of renal hemodynamics, estimated by inulin (Cin) and p-amino-hippuric acid (CPAH) clearances; Cin represents glomerular filtration rate and CPAH renal plasma flow. Animals were individually housed in metabolism cages in a controlled environment with light/dark 12:12 h. Urine was collected every 4 h (12:00, 16:00, 20:00, 24:00, 04:00, and 08:00) and blood sampled at the midpoint of urine collection periods. Urine and plasma sodium, potassium, inulin, and PAH were spectrophotometrically assessed. During continuous infusion of isotonic saline, Cin exhibited circadian changes with large decrease between 12:00 and 20:00 h (0.9 ± 0.2 ml/min) and acrophase at 00:30 h. Rhythmicity in CPAH was similar with the minimum between 16:00 and 20:00 h (2.5 ± 0.3 ml/min) and peak between 00:00 and 04:00 h (acrophase at 00:25 h). Water and electrolyte excretion were also circadian rhythmic with a similar nighttime enhancement and daytime minimum. Such circadian changes persisted during continuous 0.9% NaCl infusion for several consecutive days. The unanesthetized, unrestrained rat model enables investigations in renal chronopharmacology and chronotoxicology.  相似文献

This study analyzed diurnal variations in oxygen (O2) uptake kinetics and efficiency during a moderate cycle ergometer exercise. Fourteen physically active diurnally active male subjects (age 23±5 yrs) not specifically trained at cycling first completed a test to determine their ventilatory threshold (Tvent) and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max); one week later, they completed four bouts of testing in the morning and evening in a random order, each separated by at least 24 h. For each period of the day (07:00–08:30 h and 19:00–20:30 h), subjects performed two bouts. Each bout was composed of a 5 min cycling exercise at 45 W, followed after 5 min rest by a 10 min cycling exercise at 80% of the power output associated with Tvent. Gas exchanges were analyzed breath‐by‐breath and fitted using a mono‐exponential function. During moderate exercise, the time constant and amplitude of VO2 kinetics were significantly higher in the morning compared to the evening. The net efficiency increased from the morning to evening (17.3±4 vs. 20.5±2%; p<0.05), and the variability of cycling cadence was greater during the morning than evening (+34%; p<0.05). These findings suggest that VO2 responses are affected by the time of day and could be related to variability in muscle activity pattern.  相似文献

Biomass, leaf water potential (l), net photosynthetic rate (P N), transpiration rate (E), stomatal conductance (g s), leaf to air temperature difference (T diff), and instantaneous water use efficiency (WUE) were measured in the seedlings of Dalbergia sissoo Roxb. grown under irrigation of 20 (W1), 14 (W2), 10 (W3), and 8 (W4) mm. Treatments were maintained by re-irrigation when water content of the soil reached 7.4% in W1, 5.6% in W2, 4.3% in W3, and 3.2% in W4. Seedlings in a control (W5) were left without irrigation after maintaining the soil field capacity (10.7%). Seedlings of W1 had highest biomass that was one tenth in W5. Biomass allocation was highest in leaf in W2 and in root in W4 and W5 treatments. Difference between predawn leaf water potential (Pd) and midday (mid) increased with soil water stress and with vapour pressure deficit (VPD) in April and May slowing down the recovery in plant leaf water status after transpiration loss. P N, E, and g s declined and T diff increased from W1 to W5. Their values were highly significant in April and May for the severely stressed seedlings of W4 and W5. P N increased from 08:00 to 10:00 and E increased until 13:00 within the day for most of the seedlings whereas g s decreased throughout the day from 08:00 to 17:00. P N and E were highest in March but their values were low in January, February, April, and May. Large variations in physiological variables to air temperature, photosynthetically active radiation, and vapour pressure deficit (VPD) indicated greater sensitivity of the species to environmental factors. WUE increased from W1 to W2 but decreased drastically at high water stress particularly during hot summer showing a kind of adaptation in D. sissoo to water stress. However, low biomass and reduced physiological functions at <50% of soil field capacity suggest that this species does not produce significant biomass at severe soil water stress or drought of a prolonged period.  相似文献

Circulatory levels of triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) and their kinetics were studied in rabbits exposed to intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (5200 m, 395 mm Hg,PO2 83 mm Hg) 6 h daily for 5 weeks in a decompression chamber maintained at room temperature of 22°–24° C. Kinetics of T3 and T4 were studied on days 21 and 28 of hypoxic exposure. The T3 and T4 values were found to be significantly lower on day 8 of exposure to hypoxia compared to the pre-exposure values. The decreased levels were maintained throughout the entire period of hypoxic stress. The metabolic clearance rate, production rate, distribution space and extrathyroidal T3 and T4 pools were significantly decreased in animals under hypoxic stress compared to the control animals. The decline in thyroid hormone levels and their production in rabbits under hypoxic stress indicate an adaptive phenomenon under conditions of low oxygen availability.  相似文献

The osteological development of the vertebral column and fins in shi drum Umbrina cirrosa was studied in order to improve knowledge for its introduction in Mediterranean aquaculture. The osteological development was studied in 171 individuals, of total length (LT) from 2·7 to 30·2 mm that were reared under the mesocosm technique. Vertebral ontogeny starts at 3·4 and 4·0 mm LT, with the formation of the first cartilaginous neural and haemal arches, and spines, respectively, and is completed with the full attainment of epicentrals (12·5 mm LT). The formation of vertebral centra occurs between 4·1 and 7·4 mm LT. Pectoral supports are the first fin elements to develop (3·0 mm LT), followed by those of the caudal fin (3·8 mm LT), pelvic fin (3·9 mm LT) and finally by those of the dorsal and anal fins (4·5 mm LT). The caudal fin is the first to develop fin rays and attain the full count of principal fin rays (4·5–6·8 mm LT), but the last to be fully completed with the formation of procurrent fin rays (6·9–17·5 mm LT). The next fins starting to present rays are the dorsal (5·3 mm LT) and the pectoral fins (5·6 mm LT), while the anal and pelvic fins are the last (5·7 mm LT). Following the caudal principal fin rays (6·8 mm LT), the dorsal, anal (6·9 mm LT), pelvic (7·4 mm LT) and pectoral fins (9·8 mm LT) are the next with fully completed ray counts. Aggregation of qualitative changes, such as the appearance of cartilages, the beginning and the complement of the ossification process and the full complement of elements in U. cirrosa were measured as cumulative frequency counts. These measurements reveal three ontogenetic intervals: one very developmentally active period during early life stages (from 3 to 5·9 mm LT), a second slower developmental period (from 6·0 to 8·9 mm LT) and finally a period of ontogeny more focused on structure refinement up to metamorphosis and settlement (>9·0 mm LT).  相似文献

The purpose of these studies was to determine the effect of thyroidectomy (Tx), and thyroid hormone (T3/T4) treatment on concentrations of plasma CT in chicks. In addition, the turnover of CT in Tx- and T3/T4-treated chicks was estimated using a novel nonradioactive salmon CT preparation. One-week-old broiler chicks (Gallus domesticus) (n=75) were divided into three groups. Group I was sham-injected daily (i.m. saline), Group II was injected with 50 μg/day of T3/T4 while Group III was injected with the goitrogen, methimazole, (150 mg/kg BW per day) for 8 weeks. Chicks (8–9 weeks old) were implanted with catheters in the brachial wing vein and administered ruthenium-labeled salmon CT. Blood samples were collected at 30 s, 1, 2, 4, 8, 20 min, and 3 h after injection. Results showed that concentrations of plasma CT were decreased in T3/T4-injected birds. There was no significant effect of methimazole on circulating concentrations of plasma CT. The half-life of CT was significantly increased (P<0.05) in both T3/T4-injected (n=6; 1.34±0.16 min) and goitrogen-treated birds (n=2; 5.81±2.83 min) compared to controls (n=7; 54±3 s) The results demonstrate that changes in concentrations of plasma thyroid hormones can significantly affect concentrations of plasma CT.  相似文献

Daily circadian rhythms of body temperature (Tb) and oxygen consumption (VO2) were measured in two murid species, which occupy extremely different habitats in Israel. The golden spiny mouse (Acomys mssalus) is a diurnal murid distributed in arid and hot parts of the great Syrio-African Rift Valley, while the broad-toothed field mouse (Apodeinns mystacinus) is a nocturnal species that inhabits the Mediterranean woodlands. In both species, the daily rhythms of Tb and VO2 are entrained by the photoperiod. Under laboratory experimental conditions (ambient temperature Ta = 33oC and photoperiod regime of 12L: 12D), Acomys russatus exhibits a tendency towards a nocturnal activity pattern, compared to the diurnal activity displayed by this species under natural conditions. Under the same photoperiod regime and at Ta = 28oC, Apodemus mystacinus displays nocturnal activity, as observed under natural conditions. The maximal values of Tb were recorded in Acomys russatus at midnight (23:50 h), while the maximal values of VO2 were recorded at the beginning of the dark period (18:20 h). In Apodemus mystacinus, the maximal values of Tb and VO2 were recorded at 23:40 and 20:00 h, respectively. The ecophysiological significance of these results is discussed further.  相似文献

The Amazonian peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth) has been grown for heart-of-palm production under subtropical conditions. As we did not see any substantial study on its photosynthesis under Amazonian or subtropical conditions, we carried out an investigation on the diurnal and seasonal variations in photosynthesis of peach palms until the first heart-of-palm harvest, considering their relationship with key environmental factors. Spineless peach palms were grown in 80-L plastic pots, under irrigation. Gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence emission measurements were taken in late winter, mid spring, mid summer and early autumn, from 7:00 to 18:00 h, with an additional chlorophyll fluorescence measurement at 6:00 h. The highest net CO2 assimilation (P N), observed in mid summer, reached about 15 μmol m−2 s−1, which was about 20% higher than the maximum values found in autumn and spring, and 60% higher than that in winter The same pattern of diurnal course for P N was observed in all seasons, showing higher values from 8:00 to 9:00 h and declining gradually from 11:00 h toward late afternoon. The diurnal course of stomatal conductance (g s) followed the same pattern of P N, with the highest value of 0.6 mol m−2 s−1 being observed in February and the lowest one (0.23 mol m−2 s−1) in September. The maximal quantum yield of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) was above 0.75 in the early morning in all the months. The reversible decrease was observed around midday in September and October, suggesting the occurrence of dynamic photoinhibition. A significant negative correlation between the leaf-air vapour pressure difference (VPDleaf-air) and P N and a positive correlation between P N and g s were observed. The photosynthesis of peach palm was likely modulated mainly by the stomatal control that was quite sensible to atmospheric environmental conditions. Under subtropical conditions, air temperature (T air) and VPDleaf-air impose more significant effects over P N of peach palm than an excessive photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD). The occurrence of dynamic photoinhibition indicates that under irrigation, peach palms appeared to be acclimated to the full-sunlight conditions under which they have been grown.  相似文献
