When chronically administered, 3-hydroxymethyl N-methyl piperidine (4-chlorophenoxy) acetate, hydrochloride, causes reduced food intake and weight gain in obese (fa/fa) rats. We observe an increase in free fatty acid concentration of obese (fa/fa) rats treated for 12 days.  相似文献

Effects of cyproterone acetate, a synthetic steroidal compound, on the reproductive organs of female mice have been investigated. This agent caused reduction of ovarian weights indicative of suppression of pituitary gonadotrophins. Oestrogenic nature of cyproterone acetate was investigated in intact and ovariectomized animals taking uterine weight, vaginal keratinization and other biochemical oestrogen sensitive parameters. Cyproterone acetate in ovariectomized animals induced vaginal keratinization increase in uterine weight and uterine protein, RNA, glycogen and sialic acid contents. These effects were parallel to the effects of oestradiol dipropionate in ovariectomized animals, thus indicating oestrogenic activity of the compound.  相似文献

Cell extracts (27000xg supernatant) of acetate grown Methanosarcina barkeri were found to have carbonic anhydrase activity (0.41 U/mg protein), which was lost upon heating or incubation with proteinase K. The activity was inhibited by Diamox (apparent K i=0.5 mM), by azide (apparent K i=1 mM), and by cyanide (apparent K i=0.02 mM). These and other properties indicate that the archaebacterium contains the enzyme carbonic anhydrase (EC 4.2.1.1). Evidence is presented that the protein is probably located in the cytoplasm. Methanol or H2/CO2 grown cells of M. barkeri showed no or only very little carbonic anhydrase activity. After transfer of these cells to acetate medium the activity was induced suggesting a function of this enzyme in acetate fermentation to CO2 and CH4. Interestingly, Desulfobacter postgatei and Desulfotomaculum acetoxidans, which oxidize acetate to 2 CO2 with sulfate as electron acceptor, were also found to exhibit carbonic anhydrase activity (0.2 U/mg protein).  相似文献

Cyproterone acetate (CA) was injected daily in eleven rabbits for 3 weeks at a dose of 20 mg/day, and for a further week at a dose of 40 mg/day. After 3 weeks of treatment, the ejaculation frequency was reduced but other measures of sexual behaviour were not significantly changed. There was no reduction in the fructose concentration of the semen, but the volume of the ejaculates decreased. The vesicular glands from the experimental animals showed histological changes typical of those occurring after castration. It was concluded that CA reduced the activity of at least one of the accessory sex glands as well as sexual behaviour. This lends support to the current hypothesis that the endocrine regulation of rabbit sexual behaviour differs from that of the rat.  相似文献

Linalool and linalyl acetate are the principal components of many essential oils known to possess several biological activities, attributable to these monoterpene compounds. In this work, we evaluated individually the anti-inflammatory properties of (-) linalool, that is, the natural occurring enantiomer, and its racemate form, present in various amounts in distilled or extracted essential oils. Because in the linalool-containing essential oils, linalyl acetate, is frequently present, we also examined the anti-inflammatory action of this monoterpene ester. Carrageenin-induced edema in rats was used as a model of inflammation. The experimental data indicate that both the pure enantiomer and its racemate induced, after systemic administration, a reduction of edema. Moreover, the pure enantiomer, at a dose of 25 mg/kg, elicited a delayed and more prolonged effect, while the racemate form induced a significant reduction of the edema only one hour after carrageenin administration. At higher doses, no differences were observed between the (-) enantiomer and the racemate; a further increase in the dose of both forms did not result in an increased effect at any time of observation. The effects of equi-molar doses of linalyl acetate on local edema were less relevant and more delayed than that of the corresponding alcohol. These finding suggest a typical pro-drug behavior of linalyl acetate. The results obtained indicate that linalool and the corresponding acetate play a major role in the anti-inflammatory activity displayed by the essential oils containing them, and provide further evidence suggesting that linalool and linalyl acetate-producing species are potentially anti-inflammatory agents.  相似文献

Obesity is a key contributing risk factor to cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and diabetes. Much effort has being made to investigate potential inhibitors against lipase from natural products. The ethyl acetate (EA) extract of Ecklonia cava (EC) were tested for their ability to inhibit pancreatic lipase activity in vitro. The 22 sub-fractions from EA extract were separated using silica gel column chromatography. Among the sub-fractions, the EA6 sub-fraction exhibited the highest inhibitory activity. Dieckol compound was isolated from the EA6 sub-fraction, which inhibited the lipase activity in a concentrationdependent manner with IC50 value at 0.26 mg/mL. These results suggest that EC has potential as a natural antiobesity agent.  相似文献
