Seventy-one fungicides were mixed with an artificially infested soil/peat mixture in which cabbage seedlings were subsequently grown in pots in a glasshouse. The incidence and severity of clubroot and any toxic effects on the plants were recorded. Carbendazim, chloraniformethan, maneb, ferbam, zinc N-methyl dithiocarbamate, zinc diethanolamine dithiocarbamate and ziram were selected as suitable for further evaluation as they gave disease control as good as the standard calomel treatment and were of comparably low phototoxicity.  相似文献

Strains of Botrytis cinerea and Mucor mucedo germinated and grew over the range 0.25°C. There were differences in germination rates and growth rates between strains of B. cinerea at any given temperature. Five of the benomyl-resistant strains germinated and grew more slowly than any of the other benomyl-resistant or benomyl-sensitive strains of B. cinerea tested. Strains of Rhizopus stolonifer and R. sexualis germinated and grew between 5 and 25°C, and although some spores germinated at 2°C, subsequent growth of the germ tubes and growth from a mycelial inoculum did not occur. Neither species germinated or grew at o°C. The effect of temperature on mycelial growth in vitro was consistent with the ability of the strains of the four species to infect strawberry fruits.  相似文献

Two formulations of the surfactant sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate (Aerosol OT, Monawet MO70), one of alkyl phenyl ethylene oxide (Agral) and three fungicides (PP192, dichlorophen and a thiabendazole/iodophor complex -Byatran) were tested in field trials for control of clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae) on cabbage in 1988 and 1989. A standard mercurous chloride treatment (pre-sowing compost incorporation) was included in all experiments. Plants were raised in 64 cm3 blocks (1988) or 15 cm3 free-fill cells (1989). Mercurous chloride reduced disease severity and increased yield in both years. Byatran was ineffective. The surfactants and dichlorophen, applied as pre-planting soaks to the plant-raising compost, restricted disease development and increased yield in 1988 but not in 1989. A similar treatment with PP192 restricted disease severity and enhanced yield in both years. Pouring the surfactants and dichlorophen into the planting hole was more effective than using them to soak the compost. In 1989 pour treatments with Agral and a combined soak/pour treatment with dichlorophen reduced disease severity and increased yields by 250% and 97% respectively; compost treatment with PP192 gave a 150% increase.  相似文献

A precise, reproducible and easy-to-handle glasshouse test is described for the evaluation of the systemic activity of chemicals for the control of Plasmopara halstedii, the downy mildew pathogen of sunflower. Four-day-old sunflower germlings were inoculated by immersing them in a zoosporangium suspension. Seedlings were then immersed in appropriate concentrations of the chemicals to be tested. Plants were grown in a glasshouse and assessed on three occasions to determine successively antisporulant, curative (systemic fungistatic), and eradicant effects. Sporulation in general was inhibited by lower concentrations than those required to exert an eradicant effect. There was a highly significant correlation between the ED50 values for visually recognised disease symptoms (stunting, dampingsff and leaf chlorosis) and for both curative and eradicant effects. Among 13 compounds tested, metalaxyl, RE 26745, furalaxyl, LAB 149202F and cymoxanil showed sufficient eradicant activity, to justify field evaluation for eradication of seed infections.  相似文献

Pathotypes of Plasmodiophora brassicae, the cause of clubroot, in Australia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Variation in pathogenicity of Plasmodiophora brassicae in Australia was studied using the European Clubroot Differential series of brassica hosts. From 41 collections of P. brassicae originating from important vegetable brassica production regions in Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and New South Wales, 23 triplet codes were generated. These were more similar to populations of P. brassicae reported from the USA than those from Europe. The most common Australian pathotypes had triplet codes of 16/3/12 and 16/3/31 and were each assigned seven times to pathogen collections originating from three states of Australia. Other codes that occurred more than once were 16/2/31, which was assigned to six collections from four states of Australia, and 16/19/31, which was assigned twice to collections originating from Western Australia.  相似文献

Lettuce big-vein disease is transmitted from diseased to healthy plants by zoospores of the lettuce root-infecting fungus Olpidium brassicae. A laboratory technique based on microscopical examination of Olpidium Zoospores is described for assaying the toxicity of chemicals to zoospores. Chemcials found to kill zoospores in <1 h included copper (4 μ/ml), zinc (10μ/ml), diluted preparations of carbendazim (methyl-2-yl-benzimidazole carbamate) as Bavistinand a formulation of Bavisitin containing no carbendazim. Bavistn controlled the disease when introduced at a concentration of 0.6 g/litre into a lettuce crop grown in a re-circulated film of nutrient. Various surfactants inlcuding Agral, Cetrimide, Deciquam, Ethylan CPX, Hyamine 1622, Manoxol/OT and sodium lauryl sulphate were toxic to zoospores at concentrations of 1–10 μ/ml.  相似文献

Cytokinin-like substances in both healthy and infected ( Plasmodiophora brassicae ) Wor. strain S) roots of Brassica campestris L. ssp. pekinensis cv. Granat have been tentatively identified and quantified by HPLC. The isomers of the cytokinins could be seperated on a reversed phase column using a gradient elution with increasing amounts of methanol. Secondary plasmodia were isolated mechanically from Plasmodiophora brassicae infected roots. The time course of adenine uptake and its conversion to cytokinins were investigated. Evidence is presented for the incorporation of [U-14C]-adenine into trans -zeatin by secondary plasmodia.  相似文献

Quintozene is the only chemical used successfully in practice to control soil-borne Streptomyces scabies, the cause of potato common scab. However it may be carcinogenic, and the aim of this work was to find a substitute for it. About 100 chemicals, most of which had known fungitoxic action or were related to such chemicals, were tested in the glasshouse by growing potato plants in soil with which the chemicals had been mixed, usually at 50 ppm. Many of the chemicals failed to decrease the incidence of scab, or decreased the yield of tubers, or both. The most effective chemical was captafol, which was as effective as quintozene and, unlike quintozene, did not decrease yield. Captan and folpet, which are very closely related to captafol, were ineffective.  相似文献

In laboratory tests, Rhizoctonia solani grew best on agar at 30 oC and pH 5-5. Mycelial growth was strongly inhibited by benomyl, chloroneb and quintozene, less so by thiophanate-methyl. The optimum temperature for inhibition was 25 oC for quintozene; the other three fungicides gave greatest inhibition at the lowest temperature tested (20 oC). Benomyl and thiophanate-methyl were most inhibitory at pH 7–8, chloroneb and quintozene at pH 5–6. In pot trials using mung bean, long melon, egg-plant, common pea and sugar beet, R. solani caused maximum disease at 20 oC and in wet and alkaline soils. As seed treatments, benomyl and thiophanate-methyl gave optimum control at 20 oC and pH 7-6; chloroneb and quintozene were most effective at 30 oC and pH 5-4. All four fungicides gave maximum control on plants growing in wet sandy loam. Comparisons of host effects showed that, on all the four hosts tested, thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 0.25% (0.175% a.i.) gave 90% control, chloroneb w.p. at 0.3% (0.195% a-i-) gave 80% control on mung bean and sugar beet, benomyl w.p. at 0.3% (0.15% a.i.) was satisfactory on mung bean, egg-plant and sugar beet but not on long melon, quintozene w.p. at 0.3 % (0.225 % a-i-) gave effective control on sugar beet only. Eighteen fungicides were first evaluated for their effects on growth of Alternaria brassicae and for ascertaining their fungicidal and fungistatic natures in artificial cultures. The chemicals emerging fungicidal in action, were later evaluated for their efficacy as seed treatment and foliar application in the management of damping-off of seedlings and blight of rapeseed separately. Of 18 fungicides tested, six fungicides, viz., Dithane M-45, Dithane Z-78, Ziram, Difolatan-80, Blitox-50 and Benlate completely inhibited the growth of the pathogen and were fungicidal in action. Thiram and Brestan-60, which also caused total growth inhibition, were, however, fungistatic. Benlate (0.1 %) followed by Dithane M-45 was best seed-dressing fungicide for controlling damping-off of seedlings. Dithane M-45 (0.2%) followed by Dithane Z-78 as foliar spray was most effective for controlling the blight and increasing the yield in field trials.  相似文献

52 entries including landraces, old cultivars and wild accessions of B. oleracea and closely related Brassica species were screened for resistance against downy mildew and clubroot. Several accessions resistant to downy mildew and a few to clubroot were found. Genetic inheritance of the resistance in downy mildew was investigated by screening F1 and BC1F1 offspring from three resistant landrace accessions crossed with both a resistant and a susceptible father. The seedling resistance against downy mildew was found to be inherited recessively. This is a bit surprising as earlier papers mostly report of inheritance controlled by a single dominant gene. Previous screenings of B. oleracea resistance against downy mildew at the cotyledon stage have been done with P. parasitica isolated from B. oleracea as the original host plant. The recessive nature of the cotyledon resistance found in this screening might be due to the fact that the P. parasitica isolate was collected from B. napus fields. The clubroot seedling resistance was found to be controlled by recessive inheritance after screening the F1 offspring, this in agreement with earlier results/reports.  相似文献

Kocide 101 (77% cupric hydroxide) and Ridomil plus (15% metalaxyl and 35% copper oxychloride) were used in the treatment of tomato plants. The two fungicides exerted a depressive effect on the total counts and on the individual cellulose decomposing fungal species associated with the roots and shoots of tomato. When these fungicides were incorporated in the liquid culture medium specified for growth and extracellular enzyme production by some selected fungal species, there was a significant reduction in mycelial growth as well as in amylase, cellulase, lipase and protease production by the fungi tested, particularly at the higher doses (200-400 ppm). Exceptions were observed with lower doses (50 and 100 ppm) especially in case of Aspergillus flavus, Cunninghamella echinulata, Penicillium chrysogenum and Fusarium oxysporum grown for amylase or cellulase production.  相似文献

Experiments were made on field plots and in individually dosed pots to investigate the effects of ten soil partial sterilants on percentage infection of cabbage with clubroot. Additionally, cores of naturally-infested soil or samples of artificially infested and buried soil removed from some treated plots were also sown with cabbage in a glasshouse and the seedlings then assayed for the presence of clubroot. There was evidence that the partial sterilants were optimally effective at different depths. Dowfume M.C.2 and Basamid having the unique properties of effectiveness at deep and shallow horizons of the soil respectively. Chloropicrin at 60 ml/m2 and Dowfume M.C.2 at 98 g/m2 were the most effective partial sterilants in controlling clubroot while Basamid and Telone were also considered to merit further testing. All other partial sterilants reduced percentage infection in pot experiments and field crops to varying extents although formaldehyde was least effective.  相似文献

Ninety-six cultivars of Brassica oleracea were screened for clubroot resistance in a seedling test using two populations of Plasmodiophora brassicae. The most resistant cultivars were kales. Sixteen resistant marrowstem kale cultivars of diverse geographical origin were used to start a selection programme for clubroot resistance. Four generations of selection, involving single plants, half-sib and full-sib families, reduced a disease index averaged over six clubroot populations from 41.2 to 12.5. This was lower than the most resistant cultivar in the original population, cv. Mixti 28.8, and as good as a German landrace of cabbage noted for its resistance, Bohmerwaldkohl 10.5. In comparison, the mean of five kale controls, cvs Bittern, Canson, Condor, Kestrel and Merlin, was 61.1 and the value for the most susceptible control, cabbage cv. Septa, was 89.3. In the final assessment, there were no clubroot population x B. oleracea genotype interactions and in the initial assessment of cultivars there were only small interactions which could be removed by an angular transformation of the data. It was concluded that a high level of non-differential resistance had been achieved and that it may prove durable. It was also concluded from a small field trial that this level of resistance would prevent serious yield losses in practice.  相似文献

Twenty fungicides were screened for their abilities to reduce the saprophytic growth of Rhizoctonia solani on agar and in soil, and to control root rot of wheat (Triticum aestivum) in pots of soil. Thirteen showed some activity against the in vitro growth of R. solani, the most promising being Sandoz 619F and flutolanil, although none of these reduced saprophytic growth of the fungus in soil. Only benomyl and thiabendazole, which were ineffective on agar and against disease in pots, reduced saprophytic growth in soil. None of the fungicides reduced the number of plants infected in the pot experiments and only six (flutriafol, diniconazole, Schering 539865, propiconazole, Bayer HWG1608 and flutolanil) of the thirteen active on agar (+ triadimefon which was not) reduced root rot severity. The results of this study indicate the differing reactions towards R. solani of chemicals in the three screening tests and confirm the potential for chemical control of rhizoctonia root rot of wheat.  相似文献

Effects of prochloraz, imazalil, diclobutrazol, triadimefon and propiconazole were studied. Compared with most systemic fungicides previously tested they were all relatively toxic to R. trifolii on agar. Effects of soil residues of the compounds on the growth and nitrogen fixing capacity of white clover were measured. The lowest concentration of the fungicides used was that which would be present if all the active ingredient from a single application remained unchanged and evenly distributed in the top 5 cm of soil. This concentration of diclobutrazol decreased the size and weight of 11-wk-old clover plants. The rate of nitrogen fixation was reduced by twice this concentration and root nodulation by four times this amount. None of the other fungicides had any significant effect. The possibility of field application of diclobutrazol to cereals causing damage to clover crops is discussed. It is questionable whether harmful soil residues will ever accumulate from normal usage of the fungicide but exceeding the recommended rate of application, or application to cereals undersown with clover, might cause undesirable effects on the clover.  相似文献

Root application of certain quaternary ammonium salts, most notably tri-n-butyl-and tri-n-pentyl-4-chlorobenzylammonium bromides, to wheat seedings grown in water culture enhanced their resistance to powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis) but not to brown rust (Puccinia recondita). Anti-mildew activity was much less apparent if the compounds were applied to sand- or soil-grown seedlings. Systemic activity is considered in relation to the fungitoxicity, phytotoxicity and growth-retardant activity of these compounds.  相似文献
