The study investigated how the pressure exerted on the skin by clothing worn while working in the daytime affected the urinary excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol, heart rate, and also melatonin secretion at night. Nine young women (experiment I) and seven young women (experiment II) participated. Participants wore either a 100% cotton jacket (tight clothes, TC) or a 100% cotton T-shirt (loose clothes, LC). Loose-fitting, 100% cotton tank tops and panties were worn as underwear in both the TC and the LC groups. The main results can be summarized as follows: (1) urinary excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol was facilitated, and the amounts of urinary excretion were significantly higher when TC were worn. Heart rate was significantly higher in the TC group; (2) nocturnal urinary melatonin excretion was significantly greater in the TC group. These results are discussed in terms of an enhancement of diurnal sympathetic nervous system activity caused by pressure on the skin produced by tight clothing.  相似文献

Three mental arithmetic tests of graded difficulty were presented to eight young male volunteers on consecutive days. The effort compensation patterns were investigated using urinary catecholamines and salivary cortisol. A significant increase in adrenaline excretion was found in response to all three tests. Urinary adrenaline was partially graded according to the level of difficulty of the tests. The response patterns to mental workload also included a significantly lower noradrenaline/adrenaline ratio and a higher adrenaline/dopamine ratio after the tests. No significant increase was found after the tests for noradrenaline and dopamine. Changes in salivary cortisol concentration during the tests were graded with respect to test difficulty between the easiest and both of the more difficult tests. Salivary cortisol concentration changes are proposed as the basis for field observations involving mental workload. It is concluded that mental workload causes distinguishable effort compensation patterns and that under certain conditions urinary adrenaline and salivary cortisol allow one to distinguish different mental workload levels.  相似文献

Detailed data on the physiological pattern of adrenocortical activity during normal growth are lacking. An established method to determine adrenocortical glucocorticoid secretion is the measurement of 24-h excretion rates of major urinary cortisol metabolites (C21). To test the hypothesis that the frequently reported higher cortisol secretion in men than in women develops during puberty, we examined C21 together with excretions of combined urinary free and conjugated cortisol (F(comb)) in 400 healthy boys and girls aged 3-18 yr using GC-MS. Daily excretion rates of C21, F(comb), and body surface area (BSA)-corrected F(comb) significantly increased with age in both sexes. In contrast, C21/BSA (microgxm(-2).day(-1)) declined from the age of 3-4 yr to 7-8 yr in boys and girls (P < 0.01; e.g., in boys: from 3,991 +/- 1,167 to 3,193 +/- 804), then increased in both sexes, and finally became discordant after the age of 11-12 yr with a further rise in males only (17- to 18-yr-olds: boys, 5,275 +/- 1,414; girls 3,939 +/- 1,586, P < 0.01). This pattern was associated with the occurrence of a lower index for 5alpha-reductase activity (allotetrahydrocortisol/tetrahydrocortisol) in females compared with males. Our results demonstrate dynamic changes in adrenocortical activity in healthy children resulting in an emerging sexual dimorphism in cortisol secretion after age 11. The latter can be explained, at least partly, by diverging 5alpha-reductase activities in boys and girls. F(comb), a frequently analyzed GC-MS parameter, proved not to reflect dynamic changes in cortisol secretion. In conclusion, the varying metabolic need for cortisol during normal growth may have implications for future improvements in glucocorticoid replacement therapy.  相似文献

This study investigated how socks-wearing habit or habitual barefoot in the cold winter affected skin temperatures of distal lower extremities, the urinary excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortsisol in young children. In Experiment I for preschool children, the measurements of foot and leg skin temperatures were conducted for 30 min in the classroom controlled at 23+/-2 degres C and 50+/-5%RH, and the excretion of urinary catecholamines and cortisol during nocturnal sleep were analyzed. In Experiment II for elementary school children, nocturnal secretion of urinary catecholamines and cortisol was analyzed. While leg skin temperature tended to be lower in barefoot group than in socks group during Experiment I, foot skin temperature was not significantly different between the two groups. Fall of leg skin temperature during 30 min measurement tended to be smaller in barefoot group than in socks group. Urine volume and urinary excretion of cortisol tended to be greater in barefoot group than in socks group for preschool children. Urinary noradrenaline was significantly greater and cortisol tended to be greater in barefoot group than in socks group for elementary school children. Considering that most of the findings shown above were in the proximity of the established level of statistical significance, it was provisionally concluded that young children with barefoot habituation might show more effective cold adaptation of metabolic type than those without the habituation do, by keeping their skin temperatures higher even in the cold and enhancing the metabolic rate.  相似文献

Urinary catecholamine responses to basic types of physical activity   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Urinary adrenaline, noradrenaline, heart rate, and subjective ratings were obtained from 9 healthy males during six different physical activities, ranging in intensity from lying down to running. Heart rate, subjective ratings and noradrenaline excretion reflected the work load in the different conditions. Adrenaline, on the other hand, failed to show this relationship. There was no significant increase in adrenaline excretion even at the highest work load (corresponding to a heart rate of 160 bpm). It was concluded that urinary adrenaline may safely be used as an indicator of mental factors even in situations with different levels of physical activity.  相似文献

Maternal adrenocortical function was studied by measuring plasma cortisol and urinary free cortisol during gestation. Changes in suppressibility of pituitary-adrenocortical function were determined by dexamethasone administration. Urinary free cortisol as well as plasma cortisol increased during the course of gestation. The suppressibility by dexamethasone became less effective as pregnancy advanced. These results suggest that pregnant women have pituitary-adrenocortical hyperfunction and tissue refractoriness to glucocorticoid which increases during the course of gestation.  相似文献

A complex study of the functional state of the sympathoadrenal system and adrenal cortex in 10–15-year-old children of both sexes was carried out using the indices of daily excretion of adrenaline, noradrenaline, 17-ketosteroids, and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids. A synchronism in the functional activity of the mediator component of the sympathoadrenal system as well as of the androgenic and glucocorticoid functions of the adrenal cortex was observed with age and during pubertal development of children. At the same time, heterochronic maturation was observed in the sex groups: in girls at the age of 10 and 12 years and in boys at the age of 14–15 years. The changes of different direction and intensity in the excretion of the studied hormones and hormonal metabolites were observed in the sex and age groups. A sharp increase in the daily excretion of glucocorticoid metabolites accompanied by a considerable decrease in the age index of noradrenaline secretion was observed in 14-and 15-year-old boys from beginning to end of school year; in addition, an increase in the daily excretion of sex hormones was observed at the age of 15 years. In girls, these indices varied within the age range, which points to a more sophisticated neuroendocrine control of physiological functions in girls during puberty.  相似文献

Integrated study of the functional state of the sympathoadrenal system and the adrenal cortex in children of both sexes aged 10–15 years. The study was conducted on the basis of the daily adrenaline, noradrenaline, 17-ketosteroid, and 17-oxycorticosteroid excretion values, which allowed certain synchrony to be established in the manifestation of the activity of the transmitter link of the sympathoadrenal system and the adrenal cortex androgenic and glucocorticoid functions with age, during sexual maturation. The heterogeneous character of maturation was found in the sex groups: in girls at an age of 10 and 12 years and in the boys at an age of 14–15 years. Changes in the excretion of the hormones and hormone metabolites with different directions and rates in the age-sex groups were observed throughout the academic year. In 14- to 15-year-old boys, a sharp increase in the daily excretion of the glucocorticoid metabolites accompanied by a substantial decrease in the age-related noradrenaline excretion values and the sex hormone metabolite values at an age of 15 years was observed. In the girls, these values varied within the age range, which indicates a more perfect character of the neuroendocrine regulation of their physiological functions in the period of sexual maturation.  相似文献

In 10 subjects susceptible to high altitude pulmonary oedema (HAPO) plasma cortisol and antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and urinary catecholamines were estimated both at sea level and daily during their stay at 3, 500 m (Leh). At high altitude 4 of the subjects developed HAPO, 2 got acute mountain sickness (AMS) and 4 remained unaffected. Plasma cortisol showed a sharp rise on the first day at high altitude in all the subjects. Thereafter, it declined gradually in the unaffected subjects. In the HAPO patients there was a sharp fall in the plasma cortisol level combined with antidiuresis. Changes in plasma ADH and urinary catecholamines were not consistent. It appears that failure in the normal adrenocortical response to altitude stress in susceptible subjects is a factor in precipitating HAPO.  相似文献

The case of a 60-year-old woman with pheochromocytoma and concomitant adrenocortical adenoma in the same gland is presented. She complained of episodic headache, palpitation, nausea, vomiting and sweating. Physical examination revealed that the patient has generalized obesity, wet skin and paroxysmal hypertension, but no signs of Cushing's syndrome. Elevated levels of urinary noradrenaline, adrenaline and total metanephrine were sequentially observed. In addition, urinary 17-OHCS was also slightly elevated, but plasma cortisol was normal and suppressed after oral administration of 0.5 mg of dexamethasone. Abdominal echography and CT scanning demonstrated a left adrenal tumor, which took up both 131I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine and 75Se-scintadoren in the same region. A left adrenalectomy was performed and the tumor was found to consist of two parts, pheochromocytoma (2.5 X 2.5 X 2.5 cm) and cortical adenoma (2.5 X 3 X 5 cm). A total of 23 reported cases showing evidence of hyperfunction of the adrenal cortex and the medulla were noted. So far as we know, this patient was the second case of pheochromocytoma with adrenocortical adenoma in Japan.  相似文献

Gender differences in the changes substrates of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism as well as in adrenaline, noradrenaline, growth hormone, insulin and cortisol were investigated in 24 women and 24 men during exhaustive endurance exercise. Training history and current performance capacity were taken into consideration in the design of the study. Since previous papers present conflicting results the purpose of the present study was to obtain further information regarding possible gender differences in lipid metabolism and its regulation by hormones. Non-endurance-trained women and men each ran 10 km on a treadmill at an intensity of 75% of VO2max; endurance-trained women and men ran 14 and 17 km, respectively, at an intensity of 80% of VO2max. Blood glucose levels in non-endurance-trained women were higher when compared to non-endurance-trained men. This might be explained by increased mobilization of free fatty acids from intramuscular fat depots during energy production in non-specifically trained women. In contrast, no substantial gender differences in endurance-trained persons were seen in lipid metabolism. The changes in substrates of lipid metabolism confirm the higher lipolytic activity and greater utilization of free fatty acids in endurance-trained persons. During endurance exercise, changes in adrenaline, noradrenaline, growth hormone, insulin and cortisol were not substantially affected by the sex of the subjects. This study does not present any conclusive results that endurance-trained persons show gender differences in lipid metabolism and major regulatory hormones.  相似文献

A 21-year-old woman with Cushing's syndrome was found to have a marked diurnal variation in cortisol secretion. Serum cortisol concentrations and urinary excretion of 17-hydroxycorticosteroids were normal in the morning but clearly increased in the afternoon. The patient was cured by resection of an adrenocortical adenoma. ACTH and prostaglandin E1 stimulated cortisol release from incubated adenoma tissues in vitro. The cause of the abnormal diurnal rhythm of cortisol secretion is unknown.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the use of cortisol 6beta-hydroxylation in defining the effect of amiodarone on cytochrome CYP3A activity. To accomplish this goal, the in vivo activity of CYP3A was estimated by measuring the 24-hour urinary excretion of 6beta-hydroxycortisol (6beta-OHC) and by calculating 24-hour ratio of 6beta-hydroxycortisol to urinary free cortisol (6beta-OHC/UFC ratio). Nine cardiac patients scheduled for amiodarone treatment were recruited to participate in this study. Urine was collected over a 24-hour period from each subject before the first amiodarone administration and during the third day of oral administration of amiodarone (200 mg four times daily as a loading dose). Three days of amiodarone treatment caused a significant decrease (p<0.05) in both the 6beta-OHC/UFC ratio and the 24-hour urinary excretion of 6beta3-OHC. These results suggest that amiodarone is an inhibitor of CYP3A activity.  相似文献

High altitude exposure normally leads to a marked natriuresis and diuresis. Acute mountain sickness is often associated with fluid retention, to which an elevated cortisol may contribute. Most investigators report a rise in resting cortisol with ascent, but little data exist regarding the cortisol response to a day trekking. We therefore measured salivary cortisol during ascent to > 5000 m in a cohort of between 42-45 subjects following a 6-h trek (samples taken between 15:30-16:30 h) and between 15-20 subjects at rest (morning samples taken between 08:00-09:00 h). Morning resting cortisol [nmol/l, mean±sd, (range)] was 5.5±2.9 (2.13-13.61) at 1300 m; 4.7±6.8 (1.4-27.02) at 3400 m, and significantly (p=0.002) rose between 4270 m [3.5±2.1 (1.4-8.34)] and 5150 m [14.5±30.3 (1.9-123.1)]. Post-exercise cortisol [nmol/l, mean±sd, (range)] dropped between 3400 m [7±6 (1.5-33.3)] and 4270 m [4.2±4.8 (1.4-29.5)] (p=0.001) followed by a significant rise in post-exercise cortisol between 4270 m [4.2±4.8 (1.4-29.5)] and 5 150 m [9.2±10.2 (1.4-61.3)] (p<0.001). There were no significant associations between severity of acute mountain sickness and cortisol levels. There was a significant though weak correlation between cortisol post-exercise at 5150 m and oxygen saturation at 5150 m (rho= - 0.451, p=0.004). In conclusion, this is the largest cohort to have their resting and post-exercise cortisol levels ascertained at high altitude. We confirm the previous findings of an elevated resting morning cortisol at > 5000 m, but present the novel finding that the cortisol response to a day trekking at HA appears suppressed at 4270 m.  相似文献

Urinary excretion of free noradrenaline and adrenaline during 24 h in 265 individuals was determined and related to sex, age, and hypertension as one indicator of the average sympathetic drive. Noradrenaline was found to correlate positively with age in healthy individuals. Noradrenaline and adrenaline were lower in healthy women than in men during the first half of life expectancy. Catecholamine excretion was similar in men and women in the second half of life expectancy. In hypertensive individuals, catecholamine excretion was slightly higher in the first half, and significantly higher in the second half of life expectancy. We assume that the differences in catecholamine excretion can contribute to the sex-and age-related differences in incidence of cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension and coronary heart disease.  相似文献

The levels of serum monosaccharides (SMO) and hexuronic acids (SHA) were measured in subjects without any metabolic or endocrine disease after a short-time administration of cortisol, dexamethasone and ACTH. The effects of the three hormones were evaluated in regard to the urinary excretion of free cortisol and cortisone at basal conditions. In thirteen subjects a significant increase of SMO during cortisol treatment was registered after 24 hours. A distinct difference in the response of SMO to cortisol treatment was observed in patients with normal or increased cortisol excretion, respectively. In the subjects with high urinary free corticoids a peak of SMO occurred soon after 4 hours after cortisol administration, in the next 48 hours no tendency of return towards basal levels was observed. In the subjects with normal urinary free cortisol excretion only a slight increment was seen after 24 hours. Soon after 4 hours in eight subjects dexamethasone administration resulted in an increase of SMO without regard to the excretion of urinary free corticoids. The highest values were obtained after 28 hours of dexamethasone treatment. Ten hours after cessation of dexamethasone the levels of SMO reached the basal values. In the study in which ACTH was administered, an increment of SMO was registered only in the first four hours. In the group of subjects treated with ACTH a slight difference between subjects with normal and increased corticoid excretion was seen. The levels of SHA successively increased after the administration of all three hormones, without regard to the basal excretion of urinary free corticoids. This increase persisted also 10 hours after cessation of cortisol and dexamethasone, and 40 hours after the last dosis of ACTH, respectively. The possibility of an altered metabolism of glucose through the glucuronate pathway under conditions of glucocorticoid excess is discussed.  相似文献

The influence of 11 days at moderate altitude (2,000 m) combined with exercise on plasma concentration of testosterone, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), cortisol, aldosterone, and renin activity was studied in ten healthy subjects. Within 48 h of arrival at moderate altitude a significant increase in testosterone was found whereas FSH had decreased significantly and LH showed a tendency to decrease. Cortisol increased significantly at the beginning and reached a maximum at the end of altitude exposure. The plasma aldosterone level rose continuously and on the last day of altitude was significantly elevated. Plasma renin activity showed a tendency to decrease. On return to low land all measured parameters returned to base line values within 2 days. The findings of increases in plasma levels of aldosterone and testosterone (and serum T3 and T4, as reported by others) are in contrast to the previously found decrease of urinary excretion of all these hormones. This appears to be a distinct dissociation of serum levels of adrenal (and thyroid) hormones from their urinary excretion. The observed increase in plasma aldosterone is probably mediated through ACTH and the rise in plasma potassium, since plasma renin activity showed an opposite trend. The rise in plasma testosterone is probably of adrenal origin since plasma gonadotropins declined simultaneously. The increase of plasma levels of glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and androgens after an ascent from 600 m to 2,000 m above sea level is compatible with an ACTH-mediated stimulation of the entire adrenal cortex and/or a diminished elimination of adrenal steroids: The concomitant fall of FSH, LH, and plasma renin would then be a consequence of a direct negative feedback inhibition of these hormones.  相似文献

The level of catecholamine excretion with urine and behavior in the open field test were studied in male Wistar rat pups separated from female at the age of 17, 21, 30, and 36 days and reared subsequently for 40 days under conditions either of social isolation or in the group with their kin. It was shown that in rats weaned at the age of 17 and 21 days, the subsequent rearing in isolation led to an increase of the urinary excretion of adrenaline and a decrease, of noradrenaline. After isolation at the 30th day, there was revealed an increase of the excretion level both of adrenaline and of noradrenaline. The social isolation also leads to an increase of horizontal motor activity in rats weaned at the age of 17 days and to a decrease of this activity in rats weaned at the 30-day age. After isolation at the age of 21 days, an earlier extinguishing of the activity it was observed at repeated testing. Isolation at the age of 36 days, on the contrary, led to a decrease of the extinguishing process. Thus, it is shown that the social isolation produces changes in rat behavior and has a stress effect on the animals; the effect of isolation depends on duration of the rearing of rats in the nest with the female.  相似文献

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), the most abundant steroid in human circulating blood, is metabolized to sex hormones and other C19-steroids. Our previous collaborative study demonstrated that androst-5-ene-3beta,17beta-diol (Adiol) and androst-4-ene-3,17-dione (Adione), metabolites of DHEA, can activate androgen receptor (AR) target genes. Adiol is maintained at a high concentration in prostate cancer tissue; even after androgen deprivation therapy and its androgen activity is not inhibited by the antiandrogens currently used to treat prostate cancer patients. We have synthesized possible metabolites of DHEA and several synthetic analogues and evaluated their role in androgen receptor transactivation to identify AR modulators. Steroids with low androgenic potential in PC-3 cell lines were evaluated for anti-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and anti-Adiol activity. We discovered three potent antiandrogens: 3beta-acetoxyandrosta-1,5-diene-17-one 17-ethylene ketal (ADEK), androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione 17-ethylene ketal (OAK), and 3beta-hydroxyandrosta-5,16-diene (HAD) that antagonized the effects of DHT as well as of Adiol on the growth of LNCaP cells and on the expression of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). In vivo tests of these compounds will reveal their potential as potent antiandrogens for the treatment of prostate cancer.  相似文献
