Haematological and serum biochemical values were measured in blood samples collected over a 12-mo period from 37 unsedated chital deer (Axis axis). Stags and hinds, ranging in age from birth to maturity, were sampled. Haemoglobin, total erythrocyte and haematocrit values were low at birth and sex differences were not apparent in neonates and juveniles, but were in adults. Chital stags had higher erythrocyte parameters (P less than 0.001) and lower erythrocyte indices than hinds, and the total leucocyte count was higher in stags (P less than 0.01). Some parameters (erythrocytes, muscle enzymes, glucose, cortisol) decreased over successive serial sampling. The differential leucocyte count of older stags decreased during the initial handling period. The major rutting period in February and March was characterised by changes in the differential leucocyte count, elevations in serum muscle enzymes, and lower serum cortisol levels. Alkaline phosphatase activity in serum reflected the annual antler cycle of chital stags. Serial sampling over many weeks, either weekly or tri-weekly, produced haematological and biochemical changes in successive samples which may have reflected a reduction in stress and excitement associated with restraint.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of 3 warm-up procedures on subsequent swimming and overall triathlon performance. Seven moderately trained, amateur triathletes completed 4 separate testing sessions comprising 1 swimming time trial (STT) and 3 sprint distance triathlons (SDT). Before each SDT, the athletes completed 1 of three 10-minute warm-up protocols including (a) a swim-only warm-up (SWU), (b) a run-swim warm-up (RSWU), and (c) a control trial of no warm-up (NWU). Each subsequent SDT included a 750-m swim, a 500-kJ (~20 km) ergometer cycle and a 5-km treadmill run, which the athletes performed at their perceived race intensity. Blood lactate, ratings of perceived exertion, core temperature, and heart rate were recorded over the course of each SDT, along with the measurement of swim speed, swim stroke rate, and swim stroke length. There were no significant differences in individual discipline split times or overall triathlon times between the NWU, SWU, and RSWU trials (p > 0.05). Furthermore, no difference existed between trials for any of the swimming variables measured (p > 0.05) nor did they significantly differ from the preliminary STT (p > 0.05). The findings of this study suggest that warming up before an SDT provides no additional benefit to subsequent swimming or overall triathlon performance.  相似文献

We investigated the timeline of performances in the three races of the 'World Challenge Deca Iron Triathlon', held in 2006, 2007 and 2009, where the athletes completed one Ironman triathlon daily on 10 consecutive days. The association of anthropometric characteristics such as body fat estimated using bioelectrical impedance analysis and previous experience in ultra-triathlon with race time was investigated using multiple linear regression analysis. Forty-nine athletes participated in these three races; 23 (47%) participants completed the race within 8,817 (1,322) min. Day 1 was the fastest with 762 (86) min; the slowest was Day 10 with 943 (167) min (P<0.05). The time per Ironman increased during the race (P<0.05). Body mass and fat mass decreased whereas lean body mass increased (P<0.05). Race time was related to both the number of finished Triple Iron triathlons (P=0.028) and the personal best time in a Triple Iron triathlon (P<0.0001). We concluded that performance in a Deca Iron triathlon decreased throughout the competition, with the fastest race on Day 1 and the slowest on Day 10. The number of finished Triple Iron triathlons and the personal best time in a Triple Iron triathlon, but not anthropometry, were related to race time. To conclude, athletes need to have a high number of previously completed Triple Iron triathlons, as well as a fast personal best time in a Triple Iron triathlon, in order to finish a Deca Iron triathlon successfully.  相似文献

Serum hormones and physical performance capacity in boy athletes (AG; n = 19) were investigated during a 1-year training period (between the ages of 11.6 and 12.6 years). Six young untrained boys served as the control group (CG). The mean serum testosterone concentration increased significantly in AG (P less than 0.05) following the training period from 2.92 nmol.l-1, SD 1.04 to 5.81 nmol.l-1, SD 1.33. Significant differences were not observed in the cortisol, sex hormone binding globulin and growth hormone levels during the follow-up period. The AG clearly increased speed (P less than 0.001), speed-strength (P less than 0.01-P less than 0.001) and anaerobic capacity (P less than 0.001) whereas CG had only slight increases (NS) in physical performance capacity during a 1-year period. During the last 6-month training period significant positive correlations (r = 0.49-0.58; P less than 0.05-P less than 0.01) were observed in AG between the relative changes in testosterone, testosterone:cortisol ratio and growth hormone and the relative performance change in speed, maximal isometric force and endurance, respectively. At the end of the period significant positive correlations were observed in all subjects between the level of testosterone and speed-strength (r = 0.52-0.64; P less than 0.01-P less than 0.001) and anaerobic capacity (r = 0.49; P less than 0.05). It was concluded that an increase in anabolic activity with the synchronous training already has positive effects on trainability and physical performance capacity at an early stage in puberty.  相似文献

The effects of a competitive marathon race on serum biochemical and haematological parameters have been evaluated. Blood samples were obtained shortly before and immediately after the race; urine samples were also obtained before and after the race. Body weight was recorded pre- and post-race. During the race subjects consumed a total of 1.41 of either water or a dilute glucose-electrolyte solution. The average weight loss of the runners was 2.09 +/- 0.77 kg (mean +/- SD), corresponding to 2.9 +/- 0.8% of body weight. Small but significant increases in both haematocrit and haemoglobin concentration occurred; plasma volume was calculated to decrease by 4.7%. Serum potassium concentration showed no change, but the response was highly variable; serum sodium concentration increased in line with the decrease in plasma volume. In the group of subjects drinking water during the race, the pre-race plasma glucose concentration was 5.3 +/- 1.2 mmol . l-1, this was unchanged after the race (5.0 +/- 1.2 mmol . l-1). A significant increase (P less than 0.01) in the plasma glucose concentration, from 5.2 +/- 0.6 to 6.0 +/- 1.5 mmol . l-1 occurred in the group of subjects drinking the glucose-electrolyte solution. Blood biochemical parameters were measured in 12 male human subjects before and after exposure to a staged decompression protocol, with simulated extravehicular activity, during 3 days. Following the exposure, significant changes occurred in several parameters, including increases in blood urea nitrogen, inorganic phosphate, potassium, and osmolality, and decreases in uric acid and creatinine. Pre-exposure blood samples from subjects who were susceptible to formation of venous gas emboli (VGE) during decompression exhibited significantly greater levels of total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, potassium, inorganic phosphate, calcium, and magnesium. The results indicate that, following this decompression profile, small but significant (P less than 0.05) changes occur in several blood biochemical parameters, and that levels of certain blood factors may be related to susceptibility to VGE formation during decompression.  相似文献

Previous studies have reported respiratory, cardiac and muscle changes at rest in triathletes 24 h after completion of the event. To examine the effects of these changes on metabolic and cardioventilatory variables during exercise, eight male triathletes of mean age 21.1 (SD 2.5) years (range 17-26 years) performed an incremental cycle exercise test (IET) before (pre) and the day after (post) an official classic triathlon (1.5-km swimming, 40-km cycling and 10-km running). The IET was performed using an electromagnetic cycle ergometer. Ventilatory data were collected every minute using a breath-by-breath automated system and included minute ventilation (V(E)), oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), respiratory exchange ratio, ventilatory equivalent for oxygen (V(E)/VO2) and for carbon dioxide (V(E)/VCO2), breathing frequency and tidal volume. Heart rate (HR) was monitored using an electrocardiogram. The oxygen pulse was calculated as VO2/HR. Arterialized blood was collected every 2 min throughout IET and the recovery period, and lactate concentration was measured using an enzymatic method. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was determined using conventional criteria. Ventilatory threshold (VT) was determined using the V-slope method formulated earlier. Cardioventilatory variables were studied during the test, at the point when the subject felt exhausted and during recovery. Results indicated no significant differences (P > 0.05) in VO2max [62.6 (SD 5.9) vs 64.6 (SD 4.8) ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)], VT [2368 (SD 258) vs 2477 (SD 352) ml x min(-1)] and time courses of VO2 between the pre- versus post-triathlon sessions. In contrast, the time courses of HR and blood lactate concentration reached significantly higher values (P < 0.05) in the pre-triathlon session. We concluded that these triathletes when tested 24 h after a classic triathlon displayed their pre-event aerobic exercise capacity, bud did not recover pretriathlon time courses in HR or blood lactate concentration.  相似文献

Calvariae from small animals have been an important source for in vitro studies of bone. However, few in vivo studies have been undertaken on quantitative cell changes in calvariae. In the present study of mineral perturbations, rats were first deprived of calcium. After 18 days endosteal osteoclasts and nuclei/osteoclast in the parietal bone had increased 120% (P less than 0.001) and 26% (P less than 0.001), respectively, the marrow space had increased 141% (P less than 0.001), and the bone area experienced a 49% decrease (P less than 0.001). This thinning and weakening of the calvaria was accompanied by a compensatory increase in the number of endosteal osteoblasts (297%, P less than 0.001). These rats were then replenished with calcium, and after 14 days the number of endosteal osteoclasts had decreased to 86% (P less than 0.001) below the control and the endosteal surface was almost completely covered by osteoblasts (866% above the control, P less than 0.001). Bone area was increased by 51% (P less than 0.01). Similarly, in calcium-deficient rats in the tibial diaphysis at the fibular junction, the number of endosteal osteoclasts and the medullary space increased 1606% (P less than 0.001) and 63% (P less than 0.001), respectively, which were accompanied by a 32% decrease (P less than 0.001) in cortical bone area. After calcium replenishment, most endosteal osteoclasts in the tibial diaphysis disappeared from the endosteal surface and were replaced by osteoblasts (increased 487%, P less than 0.001). These results indicate that changes in bone cell activity in response to calcium deficiency are similar in calvariae and long bones, and that mobilization of calcium from the calvaria during calcium deficiency occurs at the expense of the protective action of the calvaria. Therefore, long bones as well as membranous bones are apparently important for the maintenance of mineral homeostasis.  相似文献

Eighteen triathletes were studied before and immediately after competing in an ultradistance triathlon. Their mean plasma lipopolysaccharide (LPS) concentrations increased from 0.081 to 0.294 ng/ml (P less than 0.001), and their mean plasma anti-LPS immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations decreased from 67.63 to 38.99 micrograms/ml (P less than 0.001). Both pretriathlon plasma LPS and anti-LPS IgG levels were directly related to the intensity of training (P less than 0.02 and P less than 0.01, respectively). It is possible that training-induced stress led to some leakage of LPS into the circulation, which, in turn, resulted in self-immunization against LPS. The effects on athletic performance in relation to exercise-induced changes in plasma LPS and anti-LPS IgG levels require further investigation.  相似文献

The effect of triathlon (3.8 km swimming, 180 km biking, 42 km running) and of its short variant (1.5 km swimming, 42 km biking, 14 km running) was studied in 7 and 14 well-trained men, respectively. The level of plasma glucose, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL did not change significantly during the competition. FFA concentration increased significantly (by 439 and 61%, respectively). Triglycerides concentration decreased during the prolonged variant. Both variants of triathlon caused a pronounced rise in the cortisol level and moderate increase in somatotropin and progesterone levels. Testosterone concentration increased during a short variant and decreased during a prolonged one. Insulin and C-peptide levels decreased. All those changes in hormones concentration are consistent with an increased lipolytic activity and, may be, with increased glycolytic activity (maintenance of the normal glucose concentration in blood). The rise in the aldosterone level reflects the homeostatic activity in maintaining electrolyte balance.  相似文献

The effect of cysteamine-induced duodenal ulcers on calcium transport across rat duodenum was investigated. Intracellular calcium accumulation measured after 24 hr and 3 days of cysteamine injection showed a significant increase (P less than 0.001) in the duodenal strips isolated after 3 days with no change noticed in those isolated after 24 hr, although the morphological changes in both were very similar. The relationship between increasing calcium concentration in the incubation medium and intracellular calcium concentration is a saturable process that conforms to the Michaelis-Menten type of kinetics. The average maximal flux (Vmax) increased from 8.93 nmole/hr-gdw in normal to 12.5 nmole/hr-gdw in 3-day-ulcerated rats, with no apparent change in the Michaelis constant (Kt) (0.8 mM). Unidirectional influx of calcium across the mucosal membrane was significantly increased (P less than 0.001) in 3-day-ulcerated duodenum suggesting that the increase in calcium transport could be due to the activation of the active step at the mucosal border.  相似文献

Circulating monomeric human calcitonin (hCT-M), parathyroid hormone, osteocalcin, alkaline phosphatase, urinary hydroxyproline, corrected serum calcium and inorganic phosphate were measured in 49 multiple myeloma patients and 49 matched controls. In patients with Durie-Salmon stage III disease hCT-M levels (16.9 +/- 5.8 ng/l, mean +/- SD) were significantly higher than controls and stage I patients (P less than 0.01), and correlated directly with corrected serum calcium (r = 0.74; P less than 0.001). In the same subgroup 14 of 15 patients had plasma hCT-M concentrations higher than the mean + 2SD of the controls. The calcium infusion test induced an increase of hCT-M in normocalcemic patients which was significantly greater in patients with advanced disease than in either controls or stage I patients. These findings suggest that hCT-M may be a biochemical index of bone resorption and disease activity in myeloma patients with osteolysis. In fact, its plasma concentrations were elevated in a large proportion (93%) of patients with severe bone involvement, and correlated directly with serum calcium. Moreover, our findings suggest the presence of a calcitonin-dependent calcium homeostatic mechanism, that protects against hypercalcemia due to tumor osteolysis.  相似文献

Rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss weighing 87 +/- 15 g (mean +/- SD) were infected with viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus (VHSV) and the haematological and biochemical profiles of peripheral blood examined. Depending on the clinical signs and gross pathology, the fish were divided into 2 groups: Group A included fish in the acute stage, Group B comprised fish in the chronic stage. Red blood cells were subjected to 6 haematological tests and blood plasma to 14 biochemical tests, which provided findings on changed substrate concentrations and enzyme activities. Diseased fish, compared to healthy fish, had a significantly lower red blood cell count, and lower haematocrit and haemoglobin levels. As for the biochemical parameters, the fish had less total protein, creatinine, glucose, triacylglycerol, inorganic phosphate, total calcium and sodium, and more blood urea, nitrogen and potassium. Uric acid levels remained unchanged. Increases were recorded in the catalytic concentration of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase. A decrease was recorded in the catalytic concentration of alkaline phosphatase. Fish with VHS in the chronic stage, compared with healthy fish, were in worse condition, with a significantly reduced Fulton coefficient and Clark coefficient, and a higher hepatosomatic index and visceral somatic index.  相似文献

Training-induced adaptations in the endocrine system and strength development were investigated in nine male strength athletes during two separate 3-week intensive strength training periods. The overall amount of training in the periods was maintained at the same level. In both cases the training in the first 2 weeks was very intensive: this was followed by a 3rd week when the overall amount of training was greatly decreased. The two training periods differed only in that training period I included one daily session, while during the first 2 weeks of period II the same amount of training was divided between two daily sessions. In general, only slight and statistically insignificant changes occurred during training period I in mean concentrations of serum hormones examined or sex hormone-binding globulin as well as in maximal isometric leg extensor force. However, during training period II after 2 weeks of intensive strength training a significant decrease (P less than 0.05) was observed in serum free testosterone concentration [from 98.4 (SD 24.5) to 83.8 (SD 14.7) pmol.l-1] during the subsequent week of reduced training. No change in the concentration of total testosterone was observed. This training phase was also accompanied by significant increases (P less than 0.05) in serum luteinizing hormone (LH) and cortisol concentrations. After 2 successive days of rest serum free testosterone and LH returned to (P less than 0.05) their basal concentrations. Thirty patients receiving haemodialysis, including two who had undergone bilateral nephrectomy, showed significant increases (p less than 0.001) in packed cell volume, haemoglobin concentration, and reticulocyte count during an episode of viral or toxic liver cytolysis. In 19 cases the episode lasted a mean of 5.0 +/- SD 2.9 months and was accompanied by improved haematological values for a mean of 12.0 +/- 6.0 weeks. Of the remaining patients, in whom the episode lasted a mean of 8.0 +/- 3.5 months (p less than 0.02), seven showed continued improvement a mean of 30.0 +/- 16.0 weeks after cytolysis. In eight patients in this group there was an apparent correlation between persistently increased haemoglobin concentrations and biopsy evidence of chronic hepatitis. The findings suggest that the reduction in anaemia resulted from enhanced red-cell production mediated by secretion of erythropoietin from regenerating liver cells. If confirmed this might have important implications for the treatment of anaemia in chronic renal insufficiency.  相似文献

The Coulter counter, model S Plus, Provides a platelet count and a mean platelet volume in all routine specimens of blood for cell count. The value of mean platelet volume in the prediction of the haemostatic potential of thrombocytopenic patients was investigated in 175 patients with haematological disorders who underwent 1473 blood counts over five months. Eighty-four haemorrhagic episodes were detected, most in thrombocytopenic patients. The mean platelet volume of patients with haemorrhagic tendency was significantly lower (5.52 +/- SD 0.7 fl) than that of patients without these tendencies (7.87 +/- SD 1.75 fl) (p less than 0.001). In cases of severe thrombocytopenia (less than 20 x 10(9)/1 platelets) haemorrhagic episodes were frequent; however, the frequency of bleeding was considerably lower in cases in which the mean platelet volume was higher than a suggested cut-off point of 6.4 fl. Discriminant analysis selected mean platelet volume as more important than platelet count for prediction of haemorrhagic state in severe thrombocytopenia. In view of the useful discrimination that mean platelet volume provides between thrombocytopenic patients who bleed and those who do not bleed, it may serve as a guide to predict the danger of haemorrhage and the need for prophylactic platelet transfusion.  相似文献

The effects were investigated in ten women of intensive heavy resistance strength training lasting for 3 weeks on electromyographic (EMG) activity, muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and voluntary force production characteristics of leg extensor muscles. Blood samples for the determinations of serum hormones were taken from five of the subjects. Significant increases occurred in the higher force portions of the isometric force-time curve with an increase of 9.7 (SD 8.4)% (P less than 0.01) in maximal peak force. An increase of 15.8 (SD 20.9)% (P less than 0.05) took place also in the maximal neural activation (integrated EMG) of the trained muscles, while an enlargement of 4.6 (SD 7.4)% (P less than 0.05) occurred in the CSA of the quadriceps femoris muscle. Maximal force per muscle CSA increased significantly (P less than 0.05). No statistically significant changes were observed during the training in the mean concentrations of serum testosterone, free testosterone, cortisol and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). The individual concentrations of serum testosterone:SHBG ratio correlated with the individual changes obtained during the training in the muscle CSA (r = 0.99; P less than 0.01). The present findings in women indicated that the increases in maximal strength during short-term but intensive strength training were primarily due to the increased voluntary activation of the trained muscles, while muscle hypertrophy remained limited in magnitude. Large interindividual differences in women in serum testosterone concentrations could indicate corresponding differences in muscle hypertrophy and strength development even during a short-term but intensive strength training period.  相似文献

Muscle cell leakage and hormonal changes were compared immediately after and during the 3 days following a 24 h endurance run (R24h) in 8 subjects, and a 10 h triathlon non-competitive race (T10h) in 6 subjects. The study showed three main differences: 1) plasma enzyme increases were considerably more significant in R24h than in T10h: compared with resting levels, creatine kinase increased x 120 after R24h but only x 2 after T10h; lactic dehydrogenase x 4, as opposed to x 1.5; and transaminases only showed an increase after R24h. The plasma myoglobin increase after R24h was double that found after T10h; 2) for the same magnitude of plasma aldosterone and cortisol after R24h and T10h (3 times the resting levels), a highly significant decrease in urinary Na+ (p less than 0.001) and an increase in urinary K+ (p less than 0.01) were found only after R24h; and 3) the plasma free noradrenaline level increased significantly after R24h (x 2.6) whereas it was unchanged after T10h. In contrast, the plasma level of conjugated dopamine increased only after T10h (x 3.7, p less than 0.05). These results suggest that long-distance running causes more muscular lesions than the triathlon, and that important factors other than aldosterone are probably involved in the regulation of urinary electrolyte excretions during T10h.  相似文献

In a controlled study of 11 male volunteers the following changes (means +/- SD) were observed in venous blood during (D) and 75 min after (A) a period of 20 min of voluntary hyperventilation in comparison with before (B) hyperventilation (P values referring to the difference between D and B) erythrocyte count 5.18 +/- 0.17 X 10(6) (B), 5.70 +/- 0.21 X 10(6) (D) (P less than 0.001), and 5.18 +/- 0.16 X 10(6)/microliter (A); hemoglobin 15.7 +/- 0.6 (B), 17.2 +/- 0.7 (D) (P less than 0.001), and 15.8 +/- 0.6 g/dl (A); centrifuged hematocrit 46.6 +/- 1.0 (B), 50.4 +/- 1.7 (D) (P less than 0.001), and 47.0 +/- 1.8% (A). The platelets increased from 159 +/- 30 X 10(3) (B) to 205 +/- 40 X 10(3) (D) (P less than 0.001) and returned to 157 +/- 26 X 10(3)/microliter (A). The leukocytes (WBC) were 4,210 +/- 630 (B), 6,220 +/- 1,660 (D) (P less than 0.001), and 6,190 +/- 1,870/microliter (A) (P less than 0.002, as compared with B). The rise of WBC during hyperventilation was mainly due to a 83% increase of lymphocytes, whereas a 93% increase of neutrophil leukocytes accounted for the increased WBC 75 min posthyperventilation. The increase of the ratio of band forms to segmented neutrophils from 9 (B) to 19% (A) (P less than 0.01) indicates that band forms were released from the bone marrow. The results show that WBC and platelets can be mobilized by hyperventilation by as yet unidentified mechanisms.  相似文献

Quinalphos given in daily oral doses of 0.5 mg/kg for 110 days induced severe signs of organophosphorus poisoning in male goats. The inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity in erythrocyte was highly significant. The activity of liver glutamic; oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic; pyruvic.transaminase, alkaline phosphatase and protein indicated marked alteration. The haematological changes were however, relatively less significant with the exception of a very low count of red blood cells and white blood cells in the treated animals. Among the vital organs, only liver suggested mild cellular changes due to quinalphos intoxication. There was no significant pathological change in other organs of the treated animals. In animals observed after 15 and 30 days rest, the activity of acetylcholinesterase in red blood cells and haematological picture showed a fairly good recovery. This study suggests that although quinalphos in low concentrations did not produce discernible cellular changes, it induced highly significant enzymatic and haematological changes in the goat.  相似文献
