The flagella-like but immobile pseudocilia of the green alga Chaetopeltis are described. Examination of the pseudocilia reveals a similarity to those previously described for other members of the Tetrasporales. The taxonomic position of Chaetopeltis, in relation to other members of the Tetrasporales, is shown to be in the family Chaetopeltidaceae.  相似文献

Three strains of symbiotic Chlorella (NC64A, CE/76, UTEX-130) could be assigned to C. vulgaris by physiological and DNA-hybridization studies and a fourth symbiotic strain, 3N8/13-1, exhibited characteristics intermediate between C. vulgaris and C. sorokiniana. None of the strains contained detectable sporopollenin or was nutritionally fastidious but the capacity for sugar release (usually maltose) may be a characteristic of all symbiotic Chlorella.  相似文献

Molecular and morphological data indicate that the genus Heydenia is closely related to the cleistothecial ascomycete Orbicula (Pyronemataceae, Pezizales). Observations on the disposition and the immediate surroundings of immature spores within the spore capsule suggest that the Heydenia fruiting bodies are teleomorphs producing early evanescent asci in stipitate cleistothecia. The once advocated identity of Heydenia with Onygena is refuted on molecular grounds. Onygena arietina E. Fischer is transferred to Heydenia.  相似文献

GORNALL, R. J., 1989. Anatomical evidence and the taxonomic position of Darmera (Saxifragaceae). Evidence from the anatomy of nodes, petioles, trichomes, leaf crystals, ovules and seed-surfaces agrees with other published data to show that segregation of Darmera from the Saxifragaceae is unwarranted. The combined evidence indicates that the closest relatives of the genus are Astilboides, Bergenia and Mukdenia. A putative hybrid origin for this group of genera is suggested.  相似文献

The sour dough bread making process is extensively used to produce wholesome palatable rye bread. The process is traditionally done using a back-slopping procedure. Traditional sour doughs in Finland comprise of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts. The yeasts present in these doughs have been enriched in the doughs due to their metabolic activities, e.g. acid tolerance. We characterized the yeasts in five major sour bread bakeries in Finland. We found that most of the commercial sour doughs contained yeasts which were similar to Candida milleri on the basis of 18S rDNA and EF-3 PCR-RFLP patterns and metabolic activities. Some of the bakery yeasts exhibited extensive karyotype polymorphism. The minimum growth temperature was 8 degrees C for C. milleri and also for most of sour dough yeasts.  相似文献

Specimens of Pelomyxa palustris from five collecting sites had numerous nonmotile flagella. The structures are called flagella because of morphological similarities to flagella and because P. palustris has affinities with amoeboid flagellates. Flagella were photographed on living cells and studied by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. From 64 to 742 flagella per cell were estimated from scanning electron microscopy of ten cells 204 to 1269 micron in length. The nonmotile flagella arise from basal granules which were, in one strain, surrounded by radiating electron-dense microtubules. This strain also had excess axonemal microtubules. Abundant cytoplasmic microtubules were arranged in several different patterns. In about half of the P. palustris cells in which nuclei were studied, microtubules were either apposed to the nuclear membrane in a parallel alignment (with some also radiating) or radiating from the nuclear membrane (with none parallel). Bacteria associated with nuclei were of three characteristic types: Gram-negative rods, Gram-positive rods, and large rods. All nuclei within a given trophozoite had similar perinuclear features. Recent proposals for separation of Pelomyxa to its own phylum (based on its proposed primitive, unique nature) can not be justified. Pelomyxa is a complex, highly specialized organism adapted to live in a specific fresh-water environment. Mastigamoebid amoeboid flagellates of the genera Mastigamoeba, Mastigella, Mastigina, and possibly Dinamoeba are placed with Pelomyxa within the order Pelobiontida Page, 1976, emend., containing two families. Sipple syndrome, associating a C cells or parafollicular thyroid tumor and a pheochromocytoma of the medullary part of adrenal gland, can be experimentally induced with the use of an antithyroid drug, the thiamazole, in the rat. The treatment is applied here either between 3 and 11 months, or between 6 and 14 months of age. Tumors appear a long time after the treatment is stopped. This paper presents a re-evaluation of the taxonomic position and evolutionary relationships of Trypanosoma (Herpetosoma) rangeli based on the phylogenetic analysis of ssrRNA sequences of 64 Trypanosoma species and comparison of mini-exon sequences. All five isolates of T. rangeli grouped together in a clade containing Trypanosoma (Schizotrypanum) cruzi and a range of closely related trypanosome species from bats [Trypanosoma (Schizotrypanum) dionisii, Trypanosoma (Schizotrypanum) vespertilionis] and other South American mammals [Trypanosoma (Herpetosoma) leeuwenhoeki, Trypanosoma (Megatrypanum) minasense, Trypanosoma (Megatrypanum) conorhini] and an as yet unidentified species of trypanosome from an Australian kangaroo. Significantly T. rangeli failed to group with (a) species of subgenus Herpetosoma, other than those which are probably synonyms of T. rangeli, or (b) species transmitted via the salivarian route, although either of these outcomes would have been more consistent with the current taxonomic and biological status of T. rangeli. We propose that use of the names Herpetosoma and Megatrypanum should be discontinued, since these subgenera are clearly polyphyletic and lack evolutionary and taxonomic relevance. We hypothesise that T. rangeli and T. cruzi represent a group of mammalian trypanosomes which completed their early evolution and diversification in South America.  相似文献

Solanum section Petota, containing the cultivated potato and its wild relatives, is a group of around 200 species. Many of these species are morphologically very variable with unclear boundaries, and the group as a whole appears to be somewhat over-classified. Describing a new species in this group should only be undertaken with caution, and molecular data can be used to test the distinctness of any putative new taxon. AFLP markers have shown the ability to reliably distinguish species in several groups within the genus Solanum. We tested the distinctness of a new tuber-bearing Solanum species using morphological and AFLP data, and tried to establish its affiliation to the series within the section. There was clear support for the species status of the material known as Solanum hannemanii in genebank collections, but the AFLP data were inconclusive about its relationships to the other investigated species. Also, the distinction of the series Tuberosa and Megistacroloba, to which these species belong, was not supported.  相似文献

Rickettsiella grylli is an intracellular bacterial pathogen of aquatic and terrestrial arthropods. Previous determination of its 16S rRNA-encoding sequence has led to the taxonomic classification of the genus Rickettsiella in the class Gammaproteobacteria, order Legionellales, family Coxiellaceae, i.e. in close vicinity to vertebrate pathogenic bacteria of the genera Coxiella and Legionella. Here we use the additional information available from the recently published first whole genome sequence from this genus to evaluate critically the taxonomic classification of R. grylli beyond the 16S rRNA gene level. Using phylogenetic reconstruction, together with significance testing on a data basis defined by a core set of 211 previously identified families of protein-encoding genes, together with a reanalysis of 16S rRNA gene data, the present study firmly corroborates the assignment of this species to both the class Gammaproteobacteria and the order Legionellales. However, the results obtained from concatenated and single protein, single protein-encoding gene, and 16S rRNA gene data demonstrate a similar phylogenetic distance of R. grylli to both the Coxiellaceae and the Legionellaceae and are, therefore, inconsistent with its current family-level classification. Consequently, a respective reorganization of the order Legionellales is proposed.  相似文献
