Reciprocal-removal experiments with two replicates were conducted to test for the role of interspecific competition in the coexistence ofApodemus argenteus andA. speciosus. Population density, rate of appearance of new (unmarked) individuals, reproduction, survival rate and habitat use were monitored during pre- and removal periods. In both removal experiments, the removal ofA. argenteus had little effect onA. speciosus, while that ofA. speciosus affected several population characteristics ofA. argenteus. Namely, the removal ofA. speciosus shifted the distribution ofA. argenteus to the habitat with a denser shrub cover in one experiment. Also, the removal increased the population densities and appearance rates of new individuals ofA. argenteus in another experiment. Interspecific interactions between the two species appeared to be a one-way action fromA. speciosus toA. argenteus. In removal periods in both experiments, the rates of appearance of new individuals in each species were the highest on the grid where that species was removed. These results suggest that, though interspecific competition occurred between the two species, intraspecific competition had greater effects than interspecific competition on the abundance and habitat use ofA. argenteus andA. speciosus. This implies that the fundamental niches ofA. argenteus andA. speciosus differ potentially, which may play an important role in the coexistence of the two species.  相似文献

The size and spatial distribution of home ranges in two sympatric field mouse species,Apodemus speciosus andApodemus argenteus, were revealed by the capture-recapture method in a temperate deciduous forest from June 1987 to June 1990. InA. speciosus, the home ranges of males were significantly larger tha those of females, and overlapped with those of other males and females during the breeding season. InA. argenteus, the home range of each male overlapped only that of a single female throughout the year. These results suggested thatA. speciosus was promiscuous or polygynous andA. argenteus was monogamous.  相似文献

Abstract. An integrated analysis of the colonization patterns of forest plant species was carried out in a 34‐ha, mixed deciduous forest in northern Belgium. First, we sought to describe the relationships between land use history and environmental conditions. Land use history and soil type were related and negative correlations between pH and secondary forest age were found. The density of the shrub layer increases with secondary forest age. Litter quantity and cover of Urtica dioica were mainly indirectly influenced by land use history. Litter starts accumulating at low pH values and high shrub density and Urtica dioica grows vigorously on nutrient enriched soils where much light can reach the ground. Next, the importance of these human‐altered environmental conditions for the colonization of forest plant species was assessed relative to the importance of dispersal limitation. Therefore, the distribution of 16 forest species was mapped and species‐specific spatio‐temporal isolation measures were calculated. The analysis revealed that the colonization patterns of the slowly colonizing species (i.e. ‘ancient forest plant species’) are best explained by a combination of spatio‐temporal isolation, soil type, pH and the (non‐)cover of Urtica dioica. By contrast, spatio‐temporal isolation was never a limiting factor for good colonizing forest species. Our results suggest that colonization of ‘ancient forest plant species’ is hampered by a combination of dispersal‐ and recruitment limitation and that the relative importance of both factors is species‐specific.  相似文献

Two species of wood mouse, Apodemus argenteus and A. speciosus, were observed consuming and hoarding acorns of Quercus serrata and Castanopsis cuspidata. When each species of acorn was supplied individually, both species of mice used each species of acorn for eating and hoarding. When both species of acorn were supplied, A. argenteus consumed or hoarded only C. cuspidata, whereas A. speciosus tended to eat C. cuspidata acorns at the feeding site, and disperse or hoard Q. serrata acorns. Apodemus speciosus is unlikely to disperse C. cuspidata acorns (their utilization was biased towards consumption) when Q. serrata acorns are also available. Apodemus argenteus will make almost no contribution to the dispersal of Q. serrata when the two acorn species coexist.  相似文献

The effects of the abundance of acorns of the oak, Quercus crispula, on the population dynamics of three rodent species (Apodemus speciosus, A. argenteus, and Clethrionomys rufocanus) were analyzed using time series data (1992–2006). The data were obtained in a forest in northern Hokkaido, Japan, by live trapping rodents and directly counting acorns on the ground. Apodemus speciosus generally increased in abundance following acorn masting. However, the clear effect of acorn abundance was not detected for the other two rodent species. Acorns of Q. crispula contain tannins, which potentially have detrimental effects on herbivores. Apodemus speciosus may reduce the damage caused by acorn tannins with tannin-binding salivary proteins and tannase-producing bacteria, whereas such physiological tolerance to tannins is not known in the other two rodent species. The differences in the effects of acorns between the three species may be due to differences in their physiological tolerance to tannins.  相似文献

落叶栎林是桂西地区南亚热带的典型次生林,也是该区域落叶阔叶林的重要群系组。该研究采用典型样方法对桂西地区落叶栎林群落进行调查,分析了该区域落叶栎林群落的物种组成、区系成分、物种多样性特征及其与地形因子的关系,为桂西地区南亚热带植物多样性保护与恢复提供依据。结果显示:(1)研究区落叶栎林群落维管束植物共计269种,隶属80科178属。(2)种子植物区系以热带成分为主,同时表现出一定程度的温带过渡性质。(3)聚类分析表明,调查的落叶栎林群落可分为云南波罗栎林、栓皮栎林、白栎林、麻栎林4种林分类型,其中以白栎林群落的物种多样性最高,且灌木层的物种多样性显著高于乔木层和草本层。(4)RDA分析显示,落叶栎林群落不同层次物种多样性的差异受地形因子的影响,多样性指标与经度、纬度、海拔之间具有明显的相关性(P<0.05),其中乔木层物种多样性主要与经度、纬度呈显著的相关性,灌木层物种多样性与纬度、海拔相关,草本层物种多样性与经度、纬度、海拔之间均有相关性。  相似文献

Different disturbances in similar habitats can produce unique successional assemblages of plants. We collected plant species composition and cover data to investigate the effects of three common types of disturbances—fire, anthropogenic clearing (‘cleared’), and clearing followed by goat grazing (‘cleared‐and‐grazed’)—on early‐successional coppice (dry forest) community structure and development on Eleuthera, Bahamas. For each disturbance type, both the ground layer (<0.5 m height) and shrub layer (>0.5 m height) were sampled in eight patches (>1 ha) of varying age (1–28 yr) since large‐scale mature coppice disturbance. Overall, plant communities differed among disturbance types; several common species had significantly higher cover in the shrub layer of fire patches, and cleared‐and‐grazed patches exhibited higher woody ground cover. Total percent cover in the shrub layer increased in a similar linear fashion along the investigated chronosequence of each disturbance type; however, cover of the common tree species, Bursera simaruba, increased at a notably slower rate in cleared‐and‐grazed patches. The pattern of increase and subsequent decrease in cover of Lantana spp. and Zanthoxylum fagara in the shrub layer was characterized by longer persistence and higher covers, respectively, in cleared‐and‐grazed patches, which also exhibited low peak cover and fast decline of nonwoody ground cover. Our results suggest that goats may accelerate some aspects of succession (e.g., quickly removing nonwoody ground cover) and retard other aspects (e.g., inhibiting growth of tree species and maintaining early‐successional shrubs in the shrub layer). These effects may lead to different successional trajectories, and have important conservation implications.  相似文献

The range condition was assessed in six communal grazing areas and one Government ranch in both areas encroached by bushes or shrubs and non‐encroached areas. In each area, three altitude zones were distinguished and in each altitude zone one transect, covering both encroached and non‐encroached rangeland, away from water sources, was selected. The assessment was based on botanical composition of the herbaceous layer, basal cover, litter cover, relative number of seedlings, age distribution of grasses and soil condition. A total of 41 grasses, four legumes, three sedges and 28 tree and/or shrub species were identified. The grasses Aristida adscensionis, Cenchrus ciliaris, Chrysopogon aucheri and Panicum coloratum were common or dominant in all sampled areas. Pennisetum mezianum and Pennisetum stramineum were typically found in the encroached vegetation. In general, the range condition was good. The encroached vegetation had a significantly lower score for range condition than the non‐encroached vegetation for most of the parameters as well as for the total score, although the differences were small. Differences based on altitude and distance of sample sites from water sources within transects were not significant, except for the relative number of seedlings. No signs of overgrazing were detected.  相似文献

Pinus halepensis forests of N.W. Algeria are subjected to frequent fires. During the fire the aboveground parts of plants are completely burned but only a few species are killed. Most perennial herb and shrub species survive owing to their underground organs and regenerate vegetatively in the next moist period. The semi-shrubs regenerate both vegetatively and from seeds. The most intensive growth of the shrub layer occurs during the first 2 years and in the 5th year, it reaches a height of 1–1.5 m. Pinus halepensis is completely killed by the fire and it regenerates from seeds only. The regeneration is retarded during the first 2–3 years, apparently by competition of the rapidly developing shrubs and semi-shrubs with P. halepensis. In the following years, there is a more rapid increase in both density and height, although by the 5th year after fire, the height does not exceed 0.5 m. The young trees overtop the shrub layer between 10 and 15 years after fire. The increase in density and cover supress the lower layers, in particular the herb layer. The reduction in density of trees in the following decades enables the herb layer to reconstitute its composition and cover.This process of regeneration resembles forest growth cycles rather than a secondary succession. The shrub and herb layers maintain their identity as they are mostly formed of the same individuals as before the fire; they merely regenerated their aboveground organs. Only the tree layer regenerates anew after the fire.  相似文献

Aim This paper examines body size variation in both recent and Quaternary populations of the Japanese field mouse Apodemus argenteus in order to assess the relative effects on body size of climate change, isolation and competitive interactions with its congeneric A. speciosus. Both temporal (since the Last Glacial Maximum, LGM) and spatial (over the Japanese archipelago) scales are considered. Location The small field mouse is widespread in Japan, and the specimens examined were collected from 10 localities on islands of widely differing area (from 4 km2 to 230,510 km2) and at latitudes ranging from 30.3° N to 45.1° N. Methods The effects of geographical factors such as latitude and island area on the size variation of A. argenteus were investigated, using the lower incisor size. In addition, the size of some specimens from two Quaternary localities was compared with the size of the extant specimens. Evolutionary rates of size change since the LGM were calculated in darwins. Hutchinson size ratios were used to examine the pattern of variation of the size segregation between the two Japanese field mice, A. argenteus and A. speciosus, in relation to time and space. Results There was a negative relationship between size and latitude among living A. argenteus populations. In addition, there was no effect of island area on body size, especially at higher latitudes. At lower latitudes, A. argenteus were larger on smaller islands, although this trend was not statistically significant. Quaternary specimens of A. argenteus were smaller in size than their living representatives. The interspecific size ratio between the two Japanese Apodemus was larger on smaller islands and at higher latitudes, and there has been a decrease in the size ratio between the two Apodemus since the LGM. Lastly, in accordance with the theory of character displacement, the small A. argenteus was larger in allopatry than in sympatry, whereas the large A. speciosus was smaller in allopatry than in sympatry. Main conclusions These results indicate that A. argenteus does not conform to Bergmann's rule or to the island rule. The variation in size for the small Japanese field mouse at both spatial and temporal scales may be related to climate change, with an additional effect of competition with the large field mouse, especially on smaller islands. The size convergence between the two Japanese Apodemus observed over the last 21,000 years may be explained by the diminution of available food resources due to the reduction of land mass areas following the LGM. It may also be the result of an evolution towards an optimal body size; a hypothesis previously proposed to explain the evolution of body size in island mammals. Lastly, the evolutionary rates of body size calculated for A. argenteus since the LGM are typical of rates calculated for other Quaternary mainland mammals, thus suggesting that the evolution in this species was not particularly rapid, as is often thought for island mammals.  相似文献

以无脊椎动物为主体的土壤动物是影响凋落物分解的重要生物因素,对维持陆地生态系统物质循环和能量流动具有重要作用。高山林线交错带是高山植被垂直带谱中重要的过渡区域,拥有比相邻生态系统更高的生境复杂性和物种多样性。林线上温度波动和冻融循环频率显著高于针叶林,为了了解林线交错带上环境差异对凋落物分解过程中的土壤动物群落结构和多样性的影响,采用凋落物分解袋的方法,于高山生态系统的两个主要时期,即雪被末期和生长季末期,研究了林线主要代表性灌木——高山柳(Salix cupularis)、高山杜鹃(Rhododendron lapponicum)和红毛花楸(Sorbus rufopilosa)凋落叶分解的土壤动物多样性特征。结果表明:凋落物中的无脊椎动物群落多样性及个体、类群密度随物种、海拔梯度和季节而变化,且季节差异对无脊椎动物多样性的影响比物种和海拔梯度更显著。3个因子的交互作用不仅影响土壤动物群落多样性和均匀度,而且影响群落个体密度和类群密度。雪被末期,凋落物中的无脊椎动物多样性指数H、均匀度指数J及丰富度指数D以针叶林最高,优势度指数C以林线最高;生长季节末期的无脊椎动物类群密度和个体密度显著高于雪被末期。总体上,凋落物中的无脊椎动物群落丰富度以生长季末期最高,林线较针叶林丰富。这意味着,未来气候变暖情景下,灌丛密度增加,凋落物输入量增大,可能导致无脊椎动物多样性增加。  相似文献

Question: What is the effect of a gradient in moose density on reproduction, growth and functional composition of the field layer vegetation in a boreal forest, and how is this effect modified by habitat productivity? Location: Northwest of Umeå, Västerbotten, northern Sweden. Methods: Field layer vegetation was surveyed in an experimental setup with simulation of three different moose densities and a control in eight study sites along a gradient of habitat productivity. Results: We found that increased moose density led to decreased cover and reproductive effort of a browsed dwarf shrub (bilberry, Vaccinium myrtillus L.) and increased cover and reproductive effort of a non‐browsed graminoid (wavy hair‐grass, Avenella flexuosa (L.) Drejer). Increased moose density led to increased light availability and probably reduced competition from V. myrtillus. Total reproductive effort in the field layer vegetation increased, height decreased and cover of light‐demanding species and graminoids increased with increasing moose density. The effects of moose density were modified by the productivity gradient, leading to a higher relative increase in light availability and reproductive effort in highly productive areas than in low productive areas. Conclusions: Increased light availability was an important indirect effect of moose density, leading to less competition for light and a shift towards early successional species. The effect of moose density on light availability was modified by habitat productivity, leading to stronger relative effects in highly productive areas than in low productive areas.  相似文献

茂兰喀斯特峰丛地貌森林是目前罕见的一类原生性强、人为干扰少的非地带性森林生态系统,与常态地貌地带性森林生态系统相比差异大。该研究采用典型样地调查方法对茂兰喀斯特森林海拔在620~910 m之间的垂直样带11个样方进行调查,分析研究区顶级群落物种丰富度的垂直梯度变化特征,并用冗余分析(RDA)法分析环境因子对物种丰富度的影响,以明确垂直梯度上物种丰富度与环境因子的关系,为喀斯特自然森林生态系统的维持与恢复、保护与管理提供理论基础。结果表明:(1)该调查茂兰喀斯特峰丛共记录有维管植物511种,隶属于124科272属。(2)单因素方差分析表明,该群落不同生活型的丰富度之间存在极显著差异(P<0.01);LSD多重比较分析表明,群落丰富度水平表现为总体>灌木层>草本层>乔木层。(3)随海拔梯度的升高,群落总物种丰富度和草本层物种丰富度与海拔呈显著负相关关系(P<0.05),乔木层丰富度和灌木层丰富度与海拔无明显规律。(4)冗余分析表明,土壤C/N/P的解释率达到58%,是影响物种丰富度的主要因素。  相似文献

Large wild ungulates are a major biotic factor shaping plant communities. They influence species abundance and occurrence directly by herbivory and plant dispersal, or indirectly by modifying plant‐plant interactions and through soil disturbance. In forest ecosystems, researchers’ attention has been mainly focused on deer overabundance. Far less is known about the effects on understory plant dynamics and diversity of wild ungulates where their abundance is maintained at lower levels to mitigate impacts on tree regeneration. We used vegetation data collected over 10 years on 82 pairs of exclosure (excluding ungulates) and control plots located in a nation‐wide forest monitoring network (Renecofor). We report the effects of ungulate exclusion on (i) plant species richness and ecological characteristics, (ii) and cover percentage of herbaceous and shrub layers. We also analyzed the response of these variables along gradients of ungulate abundance, based on hunting statistics, for wild boar (Sus scrofa), red deer (Cervus elaphus) and roe deer (Capreolus capreolus). Outside the exclosures, forest ungulates maintained higher species richness in the herbaceous layer (+15%), while the shrub layer was 17% less rich, and the plant communities became more light‐demanding. Inside the exclosures, shrub cover increased, often to the benefit of bramble (Rubus fruticosus agg.). Ungulates tend to favour ruderal, hemerobic, epizoochorous and non‐forest species. Among plots, the magnitude of vegetation changes was proportional to deer abundance. We conclude that ungulates, through the control of the shrub layer, indirectly increase herbaceous plant species richness by increasing light reaching the ground. However, this increase is detrimental to the peculiarity of forest plant communities and contributes to a landscape‐level biotic homogenization. Even at population density levels considered to be harmless for overall plant species richness, ungulates remain a conservation issue for plant community composition.  相似文献

Light is a key resource for plant growth and is of particular importance in forest ecosystems, because of the strong vertical structure leading to successive light interception from canopy to forest floor. Tree species differ in the quantity and heterogeneity of light they transmit. We expect decreases in both the quantity and spatial heterogeneity of light transmittance in mixed stands relative to monocultures, due to complementarity effects and niche filling. We tested the degree to which tree species identity and diversity affected, via differences in tree and shrub cover, the spatiotemporal variation in light availability before, during, and after leaf expansion. Plots with different combinations of three tree species with contrasting light transmittance were selected to obtain a diversity gradient from monocultures to three species mixtures. Light transmittance to the forest floor was measured with hemispherical photography. Increased tree diversity led to increased canopy packing and decreased spatial light heterogeneity at the forest floor in all of the time periods. During leaf expansion, light transmittance did differ between the different tree species and timing of leaf expansion might thus be an important source of variation in light regimes for understory plant species. Although light transmittance at the canopy level after leaf expansion was not measured directly, it most likely differed between tree species and decreased in mixtures due to canopy packing. A complementary shrub layer led, however, to similar light levels at the forest floor in all species combinations in our plots. Synthesis. We find that a complementary shrub layer exploits the higher light availability in particular tree species combinations. Resources at the forest floor are thus ultimately determined by the combined effect of the tree and shrub layer. Mixing species led to less heterogeneity in the amount of light, reducing abiotic niche variability.  相似文献

为探讨自然恢复过程中喀斯特森林土壤有机质含量(SOM)与土壤理化指标及植物多样性指数的相关性,对贵州省茂兰国家级自然保护区中不同森林类型的SOM、土壤理化性质和植物多样性进行了研究。根据乔木层物种的重要值,将保护区的41个调查样地划分为香叶树-枫香林、檵木-马尾松林、槭树-朴树林、小叶栾树-化香林、灯台-小花梾木林和四照花-青冈栎林类型。结果表明,部分森林类型土壤A层或B层的SOM差异显著,且部分森林类型的植物种数、直径、高度和密度,以及Margalef指数、Simpson指数、Shannon-Wiener指数和Pielou指数也差异显著。土壤孔隙度、蓄水量和主要肥力与养分指标随SOM增加而增大。乔木层的植物多样性指数与SOM呈正相关,与土壤A层SOM相关显著、Simpson指数和Pielou指数与土壤B层SOM相关显著。灌木层、草本层的植物多样性指数与SOM相关不显著。多元分析结果表明,植物多样性指数对土壤A层SOM的总贡献率呈灌木层乔木层草本层、对土壤B层SOM的总贡献率呈草本层乔木层灌木层的趋势,表明喀斯特地区SOM管理的植物多样性措施适宜以乔木树种为主、辅以灌木与草本层植物的复合经营方式。同时,土壤SOM不仅受乔木层植物多样性指数的影响、也受林分所处演替阶段与结构指标的影响,植物多样性指数的二次多项式拐点可成为喀斯特石漠化治理工程中物种量化管理的参考依据之一。  相似文献

以杉木人工林为研究对象,探究4种林分密度(A:650株/hm2;B:1100株/hm2;C:1250株/hm2;CK:1650株/hm2)林下物种多样性、生物量以及土壤理化性质及其之间的相关性。结果表明:(1)灌木层Shannon-Wiener指数、Patrick丰富度指数及草本层中Shannon-Wiener指数、Simpson指数、Patrick丰富度指数随林分密度的增加均呈现出双峰型变化趋势,在密度A和C处均出现峰值;灌木层Simpson指数、Pielou均匀度指数随林分密度升高而降低,且灌、草层4种多样性指数最小值均出现在密度CK处。(2)草本层生物量比灌木层高。草本层总生物量(地上+地下)随密度的增大而减少,凋落物的量则随密度的增大而增大。(3)土壤养分含量和林下植物多样性指数随林分密度增大的变化趋势大致相同,且有机质含量在密度A取得最大值。(4)灌木层Shannon-Wiener指数、Patrick丰富度指数与全氮、水解氮、有效磷、有机质呈显著正相关;草本层植被物种多样性与土壤理化性质无显著相关性。(5)各指数与灌木层生物量的相关性较强。综上所述,密度A (650株/hm2)能够促进杉木林林下植被发育,增加林下植被物种多样性、生物量和有机质,可提升维持地力的能力,有利于杉木林稳定持续发展。  相似文献

We used logistic and Poisson regression models to determine factors of forest and landscape structure that influence the presence and abundance of rodent species in the rain forest of Ranomafana National Park in southeastern Madagascar. Rodents were collected using live-traps along a gradient of human disturbance. All five endemic rodent species (Nesomys rufus, N. audeberti, Eliurus tanala, E. minor and E. webbi) and the introduced rat Rattus rattus were captured in both secondary and primary forests, but the introduced Mus musculus was only trapped in secondary forest. The abundance of R. rattus increased with the level of habitat disturbance, and it was most common in the heavily logged secondary forest. Furthermore, the probability of the presence of R. rattus increased with decreasing distance from forest edge and decreasing canopy cover, while the probability of presence increased with increasing herbaceous cover, altitude and overstory tree height. The species was never observed farther than 500 m away from human habitation or camp-site. N. rufus prefered selectively-logged forest at altitudes above 900 m a.s.l. Its probability of presence increased with increasing canopy cover, herbaceous cover and distance from forest edge, and with decreasing density of fallen logs, overstory tree height and distance from human habitation. N. audeberti prefered heavily-logged areas, while E. tanala was the only species occurring along the entire range of forest disturbance. We suggest that in the Ranomafana National Park the spread of R. rattus is associated with deforestation.  相似文献

 贺兰山位于中国温带草原和温带荒漠的过渡带,是研究干旱区山地物种多样性海拔格局的理想区域。该文通过样方法调查研究区的森林和灌丛群落,并运用广义可加模型分析物种多样性的海拔分布格局。结果表明:1)海拔是物种丰富度的重要影响因子,一般能解释原始数据30%~40%的变差。2)对于森林和灌丛群落,草本植物都是群落中比例最高的物种, 而且决定了群落总物种丰富度的海拔分布格局。3)森林群落的乔木层物种丰富度在中海拔区域最高,反映了中海拔区域相对优越的水热条件。灌木层和草本层的物种丰富度明显受到乔木层郁闭度的影响,有随海拔升高而降低的趋势。4)灌丛群落的灌木层和草本层物种丰富度均呈单峰格局,皆因低海拔的干旱和高海拔的寒冷抑制了多数物种的生存,仅气候条件适宜的中海拔区域能够生存丰富的物种。  相似文献
