The state of receptors in the wall of the vena cava and pulmonary veins, the pulmonary trunk and the aorta arc was studied in cats subjected to single impulse accelerations within the limits of 8-70 gravitation units during 20-25 msec. Myelinated nerve fibres underwent reactive changes in the form of increased argirophilia, swelling, varicosities. In bushy receptors there appeared the same reactive changes in their preterminal part as well as an excessive growth of terminals. A small part of myelinated fibres and bushy receptors regenerated. Regeneration of the receptor terminals was noted.  相似文献

Electrolytic destruction of whisker follicles in mice on the day of birth has been found to cause degeneration in the sensory nerve fibres supplying the follicles. The severity of the degeneration has been assessed in animals between 2 and 20 days old by counting the total number of myelinated fibres in the maxillary nerves on both normal and lesioned sides. The degeneration is apparent after 2 days and by 20 days the nerve on the lesioned side contains only 38% of the normal fibre content. This degeneration has also been shown to involve the trigeminal root, central to the ganglion. In addition, the lesioning procedure modifies the terminations of thalamocortical fibres in the barrel region of the sensory cortex. These terminations are normally in clusters, each corresponding to a barrel, but, after lesioning the follicles, the terminals appear to be evenly distributed in layer IV and cortical barrel structures no longer develop. In postnatal mice, electrolytic destruction of whisker follicles had less effect upon maxillary nerve fibres and cortical barrels. The number of myelinated axons surviving until day 20 increased progressively with later lesioning to reach nearly 80% of the control level when lesions were made on day 10. Cortical barrels became secure earlier than the maxillary nerve, for a normal number of cortical barrels was present at day 12 when follicles were destroyed on day 4. The implications of these results for the formation of cortical barrels is discussed.  相似文献

Under study was the nervous apparatus of the small intestine in 22 cats subjected to a single gravitation stress by rotation in a centrifuge of 1,5 m radius. The stress was equal to 10 units, duration from 2,5 to 3,5 min., and was of head-pelvis direction. The material was treated after Nissl and Gomori in Chilingarian's modification. Within 1-3 days after exposure to gravitation stresses in the Auerbach plexus there appeared changes in the shape of the body of the type II Dogiel cells, such as pericellular oedema, vacuoles in the cytoplasm, chromatolysis and varicous thickenings of nerve fibres. Terminal structures of the dendrites of the type II Dogiel cells are thickened. The changes are most pronounced within the 4th-7th days after exposure to gravitation and are observed as late as the 14th day, being sharply diminished by the 30th day.  相似文献

Myelinated fibres less than 1 micrometer in diameter are rare in the peripheral nervous system; but fibres down to 0.2 micrometer in diameter exist in the central nervous system. These observations are consistent with Rushton's theory on the effects of fibre size on conduction in myelinated nerve when the different processes of myelination in the peripheral and central nervous systems are taken into account.  相似文献

Summary In the present study the central innervation of the guinea-pig pineal gland was investigated. The habenulae and the pineal stalk contain myelinated and non-myelinated nerve fibres with few dense-cored and electron-lucent vesicles. Some myelinated fibres leave the main nerve fibre bundles, lose their myelin-sheaths and terminate in the pineal gland. Although direct proof is lacking, the non-myelinated fibres appear to end near the site where the bulk of the myelinated fibres are located. Here a neuropil area exists where synapses between non-myelinated fibre elements are abundant. Neurosecretory fibres were also seen. The results support the concept of functional interrelationships between hypothalamus, epithalamus and the pineal gland.  相似文献

The work presents data on the structure and innervation of the nerve-muscle spindles in the soleus of the lake from Rana ridibunda, Bufo bufo, turtle Testudo horsfieldi, lizzard Lacerta agilis. The animals under study were shown to have different structure and innervation of these receptors. The thickness of the spindle connective tissue capsule has certain correlation with the width of the subcapsular space. The innervation apparatus in the muscle spindles of reptiles and turtles are similar in the following: sensory nerve terminations in the equatorial area of the spindle are represented by reticulars, bushes, loops and in the lizzard there appear annulo-spirals with a small amount of coils. The character of motor nerve terminations in polar zones of intrafusal muscle fibres in the spindles of reptiles is similar to that of the extrafusal fibres: in the shape of "bayonets" and end bundles (Endbüuschel). In the muscle fibres of the turtle and lizzard in addition to typical motor plaques there occur trail endings.  相似文献

The regeneration of the sciatic nerve fibres was studied in both normal and vitamin E-deficient rats at 30 and 60 days after crush. The vitamin E is involved in one of the most important mechanisms of protection against peroxidation of plasma membrane lipids; the plasma membrane plays certainly a role in nerve regeneration. Both the diameter and the total number of myelinated nerve fibres was calculated at different times. The number of myelinated fibres in the undenervated deficient animals was lower than that found in the undenervated normals animals. Following the nerve crush, in normal animals after two months the number of myelinated fibres exceeded the number found in undenervated normal animals, whereas in the deficient rat nerves it was significantly lower than in the corresponding controls and moreover it did not even reach the number found in the nerves of undenervated deficient rats. Finally, the caliber distribution of myelinated fibres in undenervated and denervated deficient rats shows a relative percent increase in the number of greatest axons and a decrease in smaller axons. This result confirm the vitamin E to be an important factor of the normal process of nerve regeneration.  相似文献

The authors have extended a preliminary study about the innervation of urinary bladder, confirming the previous results pointing out the presence of metasympathetic ganglions in the wall of urinary bladder. Therefore nine urinary bladders of Ovis aries of different age and both sexes have been studied by Ruffini, Bodian and Bielschowsky's staining methods. It's possible summarize the data on the innervation of urinary bladder in the following way: in the tunica adventitia there are motor and sensitive bundles of myelinated nervous fiber. The formers, after many divisions, penetrate into the tunica muscularis contacting bundles of smooth muscle fibers, while the latters after several divisions after giving rise to thinner bundles, produce Pacini-like and Ruffini-like sense corpuscles and free nervous terminations. Furthermore, some metasympathetic ganglions of different size have been detected throughout the running of the bundles. In the tunica submucosa a diffuse and peculiar non myelinated network is observed, arising from the vegetative nervous fibers.  相似文献

Previously it was assumed that nerve fibres are involved in the neurogenic inflammation induced by mechanical or chemical irriations. It has been also suggested that in diabetes mellitus the unmyelinated small diameter fibers are impaired as a result of diabetic neuropathy. Therefore, our aim was to study the alterations of the nerve processes in the gingivomucosal tissue in streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats. Light- and electronmicroscopical examinations were made to analyze the changes in nerve fibres. After one week of steptozotocin treatment, the gingivomucosal tissue had inflammatory cell infiltration and some degenerated nerve fibres were also observed. Dense mitochondria, disorganization of cell organelles, and appearance of myelin-like dense bodies were found in the axons of degenerared nerve fibres. Semiquantitative analysis showed that 14 +/- 4% of the unmyelinated nerve fibres degenerated after one week of STZ treatment. However, degeneration of the myelinated nerve fibers was not observed. Two weeks after STZ treatment, most of the unmyelinated and myelinated nerve fibers showed degeneration (86 +/- 5%) and the placement of the ligature revealed a non-inflammatory connective tissue adjacent to a normal epithelium. The myelin sheath was disrupted and dark axoplasm with cytolysosomes became manifest. These findings demonstrated that both unmyelinated and myelinated nerve fibers are altered and inflammatory reaction exists in the gingivomucosal tissue only in the early stage of diabetes mellitus.  相似文献

Morphological, histochemical and immunohistochemical data are presented to demonstrate that the enteric nervous system of the sturgeon is in part composed and arranged differently from other fish. It is composed of neurons which distribute both to the tunica propria-submucosa and tunica muscularis. Nerve cell bodies are small and nerve terminals run in bundles which are both unmyelinated and myelinated. The presence of myelinated nerve fibres in the enteric nervous system of vertebrates is infrequent. Ganglionated plexuses are only found in relation to the musculature. In contrast with the other tracts of the gut, the musculature of the oesophagus is arranged into two orthogonal layers, and the inner layer is composed of striated muscle fibres. Enzymes related to the classical neurotransmitters acetylcholine and adrenaline and some possible accessory neuromediators (CGRP-, somatostatin-, ANP-, substance P-, NPY-like peptides, and nitric oxide) were identified histochemically and immunohistochemically in components of the enteric nervous system, especially those which innervate the oesophagus. The diffuse endocrine system was limited to a gastric cell type, which synthesized a somatostatin-like peptide. Some of these special features of the enteric nervous system may possibly be related to functional properties peculiar to the sturgeon gut, which also shows aspects of morphological organization that are different to those of other fish.  相似文献

Tendons and muscle aponeurosis associated with muscle lodged in the mental appendage of a weakly electric mormyrid fish, Gnathonemus petersii, have been examined for nerve terminations in them, using methods of silver impregnation, histology and electron microscopy. Large myelinated afferent nerve fibres innervate the tendinous tissues and form nerve terminals in the perimysium, the muscle-tendinous junctions and the tendons, the last recalling the tendon organs of higher vertebrates. Nerve terminals are characterized by loss of myelin, Schwann sheath and basal lamina, the neurolemma being freely exposed to either fibroblasts and their laminar processes or the collagen fibres and the tendon intercellular matrix. Nerve terminals lack synaptic specialisation of their membrane. This study is the first demonstration of sensory nerve terminals (tension receptors) associated with tendons and related tissue in a teleost fish.  相似文献

Method of silver nitrate impregnation was used in order to study 50 preparations of not-changed atrioventricular valves of the heart of domestic bulls and 30 preparations of the same valves of adult humans. It has been shown that in heart valves there are certain relationships between striated muscle fibres, blood vessels and nerve elements. The nerve structures of the valves are represented by nerve bundles of different thickness. In their composition there are comparatively thin non-myelinated and thicker myelinated fibres. Towards the free edge of cusps the nerve bundles become thinner and the nerve trunks give off separate thin nerve fibres disposed along the vessels of a capillary type and in some places getting around them. In certain portions of cusps the nerve bundles, some of which have zigzag sinuosity, cross blood vessels in different directions. In man the major mass of blood vessels and nerve elements are disposed near the base of the valve cusps, accompanying the muscle fibre bundles penetrating from the base side. In the bull heart valves an amount of blood vessels and nerve elements is found in considerable portions of the cusps not connected with muscle fibres.  相似文献

1. Regional changes in the diameter of single myelinated afferent nerve fibres innervating the taste disc of the fungiform papillae on the bullfrog tongue were investigated morphologically and functionally. 2. The diameter of myelinated afferents in the medial lingual branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve averaged 8.4 microns at the proximal end of the tongue and gradually decreased at the rate of 0.8 micron/cm length of the fibres as they ran in the apical direction of the tongue. 3. The conduction velocity of single myelinated afferent fibres within the tongue decreased gradually as they ran peripherally. 4. Electrophysiological inspection of neural connections between the fungiform papillae suggests that a gradual centrifugal decrease in the diameter of a single myelinated afferent fibre is not due to multiple bifurcations of the fibre at various sites within the tongue, but due to a natural gradual decrease in the thickness of the myelin sheath and the diameter of axon.  相似文献

Summary The surface morphology of normal myelinated nerve fibres prepared in different ways for scanning electron microscopy has been studied and compared with the surface features of similar fibres undergoing retrograde changes. Nodes of Ranvier, paranodal specializations, artefactual fractures of the myelin, and the endoneurial collagen sheaths are described. A regular pattern of elevations, usually with a pitted or depressed surface seen on normal myelinated fibres after certain preparative procedures are thought to be artefacts produced during preparation and to be related to the neurokeratin network.Alterations in the surface structure of fibres central to long-standing nerve transections include irregular protuberances, serial surface corrugations and large swellings, all associated with demyelination. Fibres that have undergone retrograde degeneration consist of endoneurial tubes with focal swellings occupied by macrophages or myelin debris, together with fine unmyelinated and small myelinated regenerating axons. Strict centrifugal progression of myelination of regenerating axons was not observed. We thank Mr. R. A. Willis for his collaboration and for taking the SEM photographs of normal nerve fibres, and the Cambridge Scientific Instrument Co. All the sensory epithelia of the inner ear in the upside–down catfish (Synodontis nigriventrisDavid) were examined by light microscopy. The morphology of the membranous labyrinth and the orientation of the hair cells is similar to what has been found in other otophysine fishes. The sensory cells are of variable size both inter– and intraepithelially; particularly the macula sacculi is equipped with heterogeneous receptors. Regional differences in the hair cell density are presented for all the otolith organs plus the papilla neglecta. Nerve stainings reveal regional differentiation. The central areas are innervated by stout and stubbly nerve endings intermingled with a few thin nerve fibres while the peripheral parts are reached exclusively by thin axons. In the anterior region of the macula sacculi are found unique cup–shaped axon terminations which surround the basal parts of a single or a few sensory cells. The number and diameter range of the myelinated nerve fibres as well as the hair cell/axon ratio are presented. Electron microscopy demonstrates the presence of unmyelinated axons in all inner ear nerve ramuli.  相似文献

Marked differences in the AChE activity of myelinated nerve fibers of ventral and dorsal roots could be established in human post mortem material. After a fixation time of 3 h and a critical incubation period of 24 h, in the mean 96% of the myelinated ventral root but only 4% of dorsal root fibers showed reaction product, detectable by the light microscope. The percentage of stained fibres varies, to some extent, in the different segments. Groups of very thin myelinated fibres within the ventral roots between the segments C-8 and L-3, showing a conspicuous high enzyme activity, are interpreted as pre-ganglionic sympathetic fibres; similar elements in the sacral ventral roots may represent parasympathetic fibres. The method of Karnovsky, applied under conditions established in this study, can be used for analysis of fibre types in a given human peripheral nerve.  相似文献

Extracellular application of potassium channel blocking agents is known to increase the amplitude and duration of the compound action potential in non-myelinated and demyelinated axons, but not in mature mammalian myelinated fibres. In the present study we used intra-axonal and whole nerve recording techniques to study the effects of the potassium channel blocking agent 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) on regenerating rat nerve fibres. Our results indicate that early regenerating (premyelinated) axons show considerable broadening of the action potential after 4-AP application and late regenerating (myelinated) axons give rise to burst activity following a single stimulus after 4-AP application. 4-AP did not affect spike waveform or firing properties of normal mature sciatic nerve fibres. These results demonstrate the importance of potassium conductance in stabilizing firing properties of myelinated regenerating axons.  相似文献

Fifty sciatic nerves of 39 rabbits are treated at different temperatures (+5, +1, 0, ?3, ?5, ?10, ?15 and ?20 °C), for different freezing times (10, 20, 30, 60 and 120 sec), and for different numbers of freeze-thaw cycles (1, 2 and 4). After electric supramaximal stimulation (3.8 V) action potentials of the sciatic nerve are measured before, immediately after, and 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90 min, 2, 5 and 10 days after freezing. Two or ten days after freezing, the nerves are examined in a light microscope. The cold threshold of the sciatic nerve was determined, i.e., the temperature at which after supramaximal stimulation it is still possible to measure an action potential within 1.5 hr after freezing. On application of one freeze-thaw cycle, the cold threshold is ?15 °C after a freezing time of 10 sec, ?10 °C after 20 sec and 30 sec, and ?5 °C after 60 and 120 sec. After application of two and four freeze-thaw cycles, the cold threshold is elevated, and after a super-cooling time of 10 sec it is ?10 °C, after 30 sec ?5 °C. The longer the freezing time and the more freeze-thaw cycles, the higher is the cold threshold. At ?20 °C (superthreshold temperature) an action potential can no longer be measured and all myelinated nerve fibres have decayed, except some small-caliber ones.Electrophysiologically, it is evident that some of the myelinated nerve fibres become functionally damaged for 1.5 hr, while other parts of the nerve fibres will degenerate and later regenerate. The amplitudes of the measured action potentials correlate with the decay of myelin sheaths and axons of large- and medium-caliber nerve fibres. Action potentials between 0 and 40% show a gradual paresis, above 40% a physiological motor function. The pathophysiological mechanism of this reversible functional loss after super-cooling and freezing may be a consequence of a disturbed membrane permeability. It is of clinical importance that, if the cold threshold of a peripheral motor nerve is known, the nerve can be frozen concomitantly for a short time at application of low temperatures without suffering any functional loss. This is achieved by controlling during freezing the motor function of the corresponding nerve situated on the periphery of cryolesion, and, if there is a loss of motor function, the freezing process has to be interrupted immediately.  相似文献

Extrinsic fluorescence polarization (P parallel and P perpendicular) of intact myelinated nerve fibres in anisotonic media has been investigated. Fluorescent probes of Acridine orange and Perylen were used for the experiment. Changes in fluorescent polarization of nerve fibres, associated with osmotic movement of water, arise immediately after the incubation of fibres in hypo- or hypertonic solutions. During exosmotic and endosmotic movement of water P parallel and P perpendicular and in quite a different manner. This fact demonstrates an asymmetry of structural membrane alterations. The results obtained are explained by asymmetry of swelling and shrinking of carbohydrate gel between two adjacent extracellular membrane surfaces of the myelin sheath.  相似文献
