Two new species of Acacia (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae) from Yemen

The new species Acacia harala and A. mahrana , both from southern Yemen, are described and illustrated. A. harala belongs to A. subgen. Acacia and is known from the Abyan and Shabwah Regions, whereas A. mahrana belongs to A. subgen. Aculeiferum and is known only from the Mahrah Region.     

Phyllanthus xylorrhizus (Phyllanthaceae), a new species from Somalia

The new species Phyllanthus xylorrhizus, from limestone rocks along the coast of north-eastem Somalia, is described, illustrated, and compared with two other Somali endemics, P.lunifolius and P. spinosus.     

Andrachne fragilis (Euphorbiaceae), a new species from Somalia

Andrachne fragilis is described from north-facing limestone rocks of the escarpment in NE Somalia.     

Basananthe aciphylla (Passifloraceae), a new species from Somalia

The new species Basananthe aciphylla , a thorny shrublet from central Somalia, is described and illustrated. Its closest relative is the likewise spinescent NE African endemic B. berberoides .     

Dicoma hindana (Asteraceae), a new species from Somalia

A new species of the genus Dicoma (sect. Psilocoma ), from Somalia, is described. The characteristics by which it can be distinguished from related species are listed.     

Two new species of Acacia (Leguminosae) from north-eastern Somalia

Acacia qandalensis , sp. nov., and A. tephrophylla , sp. nov., from north-eastern Somalia, are described and illustrated. A. qandalensis grows on limestone rocks, often in steep and exposed places, and is known from 600–1400 m altitude from the Cal Miskaat Mts in the west to near Bunder Murrayha in the east. A. tephropkylla obviously has a more restricted area of distribution and is known only from stony or rocky places on limestone at 1300–1800 m altitude in the Cal Miskaat Mts, where it is the dominant woody plant over large areas. Both species are related to A. etbaica.     

Caralluma lamellosa (Apocynaceae), a remarkable new species from Somalia

The new species Caralluma lamellosa, from a rocky limestone slope about 200 m a.s.1. in north-eastem Somalia is described and illustrated. The plant is reminiscent of C. furta in habit, but its outer corona, with undivided linear-oblanceolate lobes opposite to the anthers and at first examination looking like lamellae on the corolla tube, is unparalleled among stapeliads.     

A new species of Polycarpaea (Caryophyllaceae) from Somalia

The new species Polycarpaea basaltica , from an area of basalt rocks at the coast of northern Somalia, is described and illustrated.     

A new species of Rhytidocaulon (Apocynaceae) from Somalia

Rhytidocaulon baricum, sp. nov., from open rocky limestone slopes in northeastern Somalia, is described and illustrated.     

Two new species of Jatropha (Euphorbiaceae) from Somalia

The new species Jatropha miskatensis , from limestone slopes of the Cal Miskaat Range in north-eastern Somalia, and J. marmorata , from bushland on shallow soil over limestone just south of the Nugaal valley in north-eastern Somalia, are described. An illustration is provided for J. miskatensis.     

A new species of Scutellaria (Lamiaceae) from Somalia

The new species Scutellaria somalensis, from limestone slopes in north-eastem Somalia, is described and illustrated.     

Two new species of Vigna (Leguminosae) from Somalia

The new species Vigna monantha ( V. subgen. Vigna sect. Catjang ) from coastal dunes of northern and central Somalia, and V. virescens ( V. subgen. Macrorhynchus ) from the inland of central and southern Somalia are described and illustrated. V. virescens is unique in Vigna by having branched stylar hairs, a character indicating a relationship between V. subgen. Macrorhynchus and the monotypic Wajira.     

A new species of Croton (Euphorbiaceae) from Somalia

Croton crispatus , sp. nov., from Acacia-Commiphora bushland on sand in central Somalia, is described and illustrated.     

A new species of Otostegia (Lamiaceae) from Somalia

A new species from gypsum plains in northern Somalia, Otostegia ericoidea Ryding is described and illustrated.     

Two new species of Dyschoriste (Acanthaceae) from Somalia

The new species Dyschoriste bayensis, from a granitic inselberg in southern Somalia, and D. miskatensis, from open bushland on limestone in north-eastern Somalia, are described and illustrated.     

Two new species of Polygala (Polygalaceae) from Somalia

The new species Polygala praetermissa , a dwarf perennial herb growing in stony places on limestone, and P. dasanensis , a shrublet apparently confined to gypsum, are described. Both species occur in the Cal Miskaat Range in north-eastern Somalia, but P. praetermissa has a wider distribution in northern Somalia.     

A new species of Wellstedia (Boraginaceae) from Somalia

The new species Wellstedia robusta , from mountain ridges and slopes south-west of Qandala in north-eastern Somalia, is described and illustrated.     

Two new species of Monadenium (Euphorbiaceae) from Somalia

Two species of Monadenium, M. gillettii related to M. ellenbeckii , and M. lindenii related to M. virgatum are described as new endemics of Somalia.     

A new species of Xylocalyx (Scrophulariaceae) from Somalia

Xylocalyx carteriae sp. nov. from central Somalia is described and illustrated. The hygrochasy in this species as well as in Xylocalyx in general is pointed out.     

Ten new species of Commiphora (Burseraceae) from Somalia

The following new species are described: Commiphora arenaria from bushland on sand in south-central Somalia, C. gardoensis from limestone slopes in the Qardho area in north-eastem Somalia, C. stellatopubescens from bushland on limestone outcrops or stony ground in the Hiiraan Region in south-central Somalia, C. spinulosa from limestone rocks on the escarpment along the Gulf of Aden in northeastern Somalia, C. lobatospathulata from bushland on sand in central and south-central Somalia, C. quercifoliola from bushland on shallow soil over limestone near Eil in north-eastem Somalia, C. chiovendana from bushland in northern and central Somalia, C. multifoliolata from limestone hills and ridges in south-westem Somalia, C. murraywatsonii from limestone outcrops near Hobyo in central Somalia, and C. kucharii from bushland on shallow soils over limestone in central and southern Somalia.
