Yusufi A. N. K. &; Siddiqi A. H. 1976. Comparative studies on the lipid composition of some digenetic trematodes. International Journal for Parasitology6: 5–8. Neutral lipids and phospholipids of six digenetic trematodes, Cotylophoron cotylophorum, Gastrothylax crumenifer and Gigantocotyle explanatum from water buffalo, Echinostoma malayanum and Fasciolopsis buski from pig and Isoparorchis hypselobagri from cat-fish were analyzed. Total lipid concentrations in trematodes varied considerably irrespective of their hosts and habitats. While triglycerides were the major components in all species, considerable amounts of phospholipids and free fatty acids were present in all species. Cholesterol was minimum (4–9%) in more or less all species, except in F. buski, where cholesterol, phospholipids and triglycerides constituted 13–14% and free fatty acids around 7%. Among phospholipids, choline and ethanolamine phosphatides were major polar lipids. Sphingomyelin and cardiolipin were present as small fractions and lysophosphatidylcholine was evenly distributed among all the species (9–12%) except in F. buski, which contained a little higher content (15%).  相似文献

Quantitative estimation of absolute levels and in vitro release of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in seven species of digenetic trematodes: Isoparorchis hypselobagri from the swim bladder of catfish, Wallago attu; Srivastavaia indica and Gastrothylax crumenifer from the rumen, and Gigantocotyle explanatum from the liver of the water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis; Fasciolopsis buski, Echinostoma malayanum from the small intestine and Gastrodiscoides hominis from the caecum of the pig, Sus scrofa revealed that the enzyme is present in remarkably high quantities in species which inhibit gastrointestinal tract compared with those that parasitize liver and swim bladder. The rate of in vitro release of AChE also varies with the species which supports the view that such differential secretion probably takes place in situ as well to counteract peristalsis and it is a biochemical adaptation on the part of these trematodes.  相似文献

The transmission of digenetic trematodes: style, elegance, complexity   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Traditionally, the field of parasitology has dealt with eukaryoticanimals, to the exclusion of viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc.,which is the way it will be approached here. The focus of thepresent paper will be on certain ecological aspects of the lifecycles and life-history strategies employed by the Digenea,a diverse group of platyhelminths that includes some 25,000species. More specifically, the review will consider the natureof host/parasite interactions within molluscan intermediatehosts and the manner in which these interactions, or lack thereof, function in structuring trematode infracommunities within thesemolluscan intermediate hosts. Literature in this area suggeststhat predation/competition may be a significant structuringforce for infracommunities in certain marine prosobranchs, butnot others, and that temporal/spatial factors may be involvedas structuring mechanisms in at least some freshwater pulmonates.  相似文献

Alkaline phosphatases from different trematodes occupying the same habitat have identical pH otima but different levels of enzyme activities. Isoparorchis hypselobagri, from the fish Wallago attu, shows four to six times more enzyme activity than Fasciolopsis buski, Gastrodiscoides hominis and Echinostoma malayanum, from the pig Sus scrofa, and Fasciola gigantica, Gigantocotyle explanatum, Cotylophoron cotylophorum and Gastrothylax crumenifer, from the buffalo Bubalus bubalis. At least two peaks of activity at different levels of pH were obtained for each trematode examined. Both Gastrodiscoides hominis and Isoparorchis hypselobagri enzymes had three peaks of alkaline phosphatase activity. The optimum temperature for maximum enzyme activity was 40 degrees C, above which rapid inactivation occurred. At temperatures below 40 degrees C, the enzymes of fish and mammalian trematodes did not behave similarly; I. hypselobagri enzyme being active over a wider range of temperature (20 degrees-40 degrees C. Various concentrations of KCN and arsenate proportionately inhibited enzyme activity. NaF Did not significantly influence enzyme activity, while Mg++ and Co++ acted as activators. The extent of inhibition or activation of enzyme activity of different trematodes varied, probably due to species differences. Both inhibition and activation of I. hypselobagri enzyme was higher than in the case of other trematodes.  相似文献

The outer covering of digenetic trematodes undergoes a number of changes in the course of the life cycle in adaptation to parasitism and to the host-seeking requirements of the various stages. Using Schistosoma mansoni as a model, I review morphological, physiological, and cytochemical features of the coverings of miracidia, sporocysts, cercariae, and adults. Such features should be used with caution in evaluating phylogenetic relationships of any flatworms since the environment is itself a powerful determinant.  相似文献

Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the two digenetic trematodes, Gigantocotyle explanalum from the liver and Gastrothylax crumenifer from the rumen of the water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis revealed the presence of at least six and seven isoenzymes of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), respectively in a partially purified enzyme preparation. The respective host tissues showed five isoenzymes of LDH, which are characteristic to the vertebrates. Both parachloromercuribenzoate and iodoacetate affected the LDH activity of the parasites and host tissues differently. Spectrophotometric analysis also showed different specific activity and susceptibility to the action of thiol inhibitors. The host LDH was quite stable at 57°C for 30 min, but that of the parasites was less stable.  相似文献

5'-nucleotidases of eight species of digenetic trematodes were studied using five different substrates. All species showed the following preferential order of substrate affinity; AMP greater than CMP greater than GMP greater than TMP greater than UMP. It was observed that different species occupying similar habitats possessed closely related levels of enzyme activities. The function of 5'-nucleotidases in trematodes is also suggested.  相似文献

Out of other functions performed by vitellaria in digenetic trematodes, their role in the formation of shell globules and shell membrane of the capsule, as well as in the excretion of iron with the help of vitamin C is very important. The present histochemical work shows the localization of certain enzymes in different parts of the reproductive system of ten species of trematodes viz.: Neopronocephalus triangularis Mehra, 1932; Glossimetra orientalis Mehra, 1937; Orientodiscus lobatus Srivastava, 1938; Eumegacetes artemii Mehra, 1935; Ganeo tigrinus mehra et Negi, 1928; Encyclometra caudata Dollfus, 1928; Thapariella udaipurensis Gupta and Sharma, 1970; Paradistomoides indicum Narain et Das, 1929; Patagifer wesleyi Verma, 1936; Proalarioides tropidonotus Vidyarthi, 1937 and indicates their functional significance. The hydrolytic enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, 5-nucleotidase and ATPase) are suggestive of their involvement in the uptake of certain nutrients, glycogen and lipoprotein being very significant among others. The four enzymes could also be detected in testes, ovary, uterus, cirrus sac and egg shell. The possible functional significance of each enzyme has been discussed.  相似文献

Oxyhaemoglobins of six digenetic trematodes,--Srivastavaia indica, Gastrothylax crumenifer, Gigantocotyle explanatum, Fasciolopsis buski, Gastrodiscoides hominis, Isoparorchis hypselobagri, and of their 3 vertebrate hosts, Bubalus bubalis, Sus scrofa, Wallago attu, were subjected to alkali denaturation at a pH of 12.4. All oxyhaemoglobins from trematodes and their hosts differ from each other in the rate and extent of alkali denaturation which may be explained due to variations in the amino acid sequences of a particular haem protein in addition to other factors.  相似文献
