Summary Accumulation of silver is reported for growing and non-growing populations of Citrobacter intermedius B6. In non-growing cultures a maximum uptake of 4.35% (w/w) was observed at an initial silver concentration of 2111.2 mol Ag+ l-1. In contrast the maximum uptake of silver by growing bacteria was 2.81% (w/w) at an effective concentration of silver of 217.8 mol·l-1. Silver accumulation rates in both resting (460 mol Ag+ g-1 per hour) and continuously grown (41 mol Ag+ g-1 per hour) bacteria are higher than previously reported. Cell fractionation and electron microscopy of continuously grown bacteria indicated that accumulation of silver was associated with the cell envelope, in the form of dense deposits of macromolecular proportions. This observation discounts simple surface adsorption as the process of accumulation in growing cultures.  相似文献

Total mercury was measured in different compartments of Lake Xolotlán's (Managua) ecosystemviz., sediments, water, fish and men. Sediments from 18 localities at 5 depths inside the sediment (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 cm) contained an average concentration of 0.62 g Hg.g–1±0.46 at the surface, with extreme values of 0.16 and 1.8 g.g–1. The highest concentration was observed at 25 cm depth in front of the chlor-alkaly factory (ELPESA). This maximum is associated with the period of highest production of this factory. The highest mercury concentrations in water were also measured close to the discharge of ELPESA,viz. 787 g.Hg–1 in January and 506 g.g–1 in April. The mean mercury concentrations measured in the muscles of the most consumed fish were 0.63 g.g–1±0.22 (extreme values 0.22 and 1.45) inCichlasoma managuense, and 0.07 g.g–1±0.14 (extreme values 0.004 and 0.63) inC. citrinellum. The concentration in the liver was 0.79 g.g–1±1.29 inC. managuense and 0.62 g.g–1±0.44 inC. citrinellum. Human hairs (n=98) of fishermen and their families contained 5.03 g.g–1±6.2 (extreme values 0.02 and 38.22). The mean concentration measured in men was 6.22 g.g–1±6.34 (n=58), and in women 3.39 g.g–1±5.7 (n=40). The average mercury concentration of hairs of workers of ELPESA was 91.24 g.g–1±156.9 (extreme values 0.46 and 724.53; n=32). We conclude that total mercury levels in the various ecosystem compartments are very high and mercury contamination in the lake may be considered as dangerous for human health.  相似文献

Summary Hen coprodeum absorbs sodium electrogenically and, when stimulated by theophylline, secretes chloride. In this study the vibrating microprobe technique was used to localize the transport of these ions to intestinal villi/folds and crypts. With the isolated, stretched epithelium, controlled by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, in open circuit, currents were inward, 40±7 A/cm2, 50 m vertically above villi, and outward, 36±7 A/cm2 above crypts. The currents decayed exponentially to near zero at 300 m with the same length constant. A physical model simulating the observed loci of current sources and sinks predicts potential profiles consistent with our data. Extrapolation of the currents gives a surface potential of 45 V, negative on villi and positive above crypts. Short circuiting increased villus current to 86±27 A/cm2 at 50 m, and amiloride treatment reduced it to –8 A/cm2; in both cases crypt currents were abolished. The inward currents are compatible with sodium absorption. Induction of chloride secretion after amiloride treatment, resulted in current circuits similar to those induced by sodium absorption, with villus currents of 23±7 A/cm2. This is in accord with chloride secretion at the villi. Quantitative estimates of crypt number (860/cm2) and opening diameter (15 m), in conjunction with isotopic measurements of active and electrical potential-driven ion fluxes demonstrate, however, that only 4% of the potential-driven co-ion transport occurs through the crypts. This indicates that nearly all chloride secretion comes from the sodium-absorbing villar area. Were the chloride secretion to occur solely from the crypts, the current should have been in the opposite direction and 10,000-fold larger.  相似文献

Lyophilized aqueous extract of Maytenus ilicifolia leaves (LAEMIL) is commonly used in Brazilian folk medicine in the treatment of dyspepsia as well as gastric ulcers. We have investigated the effect and the possible mechanism of action of the LAEMIL on acid secretion in isolated frog gastric mucosa incubated in an Ussing chamber. It was observed that LAEMIL (7–28 mg%) as well as cimetidine (125–4,000 M), a well-known histamine H2 receptor antagonist, decreased basal acid secretion in a concentration-dependent manner. Similarly to cimetidine (190 M), LAEMIL (21 mg%) also inhibited gastric acid secretion induced by increasing concentrations of histamine (50–800 M). The EC50 values for histamine alone and histamine in the presence of LAEMIL or cimetidine were 94.6 M (71.1–125.9 M), 244.9 M (209.4–286.4 M) and 142.2 M (23.6–855.0 M), respectively. LAEMIL, histamine and cimetidine were effective on acid secretion only when added to the serosal surface of the mucosa. Furthermore, simultaneous addition of LAEMIL and cimetidine at concentrations, per se, ineffective, caused a 16% reduction in the basal acid secretion [from 8.3±0.3 to 6.9±0.2 Eq g–1 (15 min)–1, n=4]. Although effects such as inhibition of histamine biosynthesis and/or histamine release can not be ruled out, our data suggest that LAEMIL, like cimetidine, reduces acid secretion in the isolated frog gastric mucosa by antagonising histamine H2 receptors.Abbreviations LAEMIL Lyophilized aqueous extract of Maytenus ilicifolia leaves - Hist Histamine - Cim Cimetidine  相似文献

Isolated embryos ofKarwinskia humboldtiana were cultured in vitro. The growth of embryos and development to plantlets on woody plant medium supplemented with indole-3-acetic acid 6.10-2 mol l–1, gibberellic acid (GA3) 3.10-2 mol l–1, and 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) 2 mol l–1 was obtained. Multiplication of shoots and rooting of excised shoots has been achieved. The microsomal fraction isolated from dog mesenteric nerve fibres was found to contain ATPase activity stimulated by micromolar concentrations of Ca ions. Such a high-affinity Ca2+-ATPase (hereafter referred to as HA Ca-ATPase) followed a Michaelis-Menten kinetics with Km for Ca ions of 0.4 M and Vmax=12.5±2.4 mol Pi.mg–1h–1. The examination of the subcellular origin of HA Ca-ATPase revealed that this enzyme is associated with axonal plasma membranes as documented by its co-purification with several plasma membrane marker enzymes and with tetrodotoxin-sensitive3H-saxitoxin binding. The addition of exogenous magnesium ions (Mg) resulted in a non-competitive inhibition of HA Ca-ATPase with Ki=0.5 mM. The reaction velocity of HA Ca-ATPase was also inhibited by other divalent ions with the order of potency Mg>Mn >ZnCo>Ni. In contrast to low affinity (high Km) Mg- and Ca-ATPase, the HA Ca-ATPase was insensitive to the inhibition by sodium azide (10 mM) and sodium fluoride (10 mM). Similarly, the specific activity of HA Ca-ATPase was unaffected by vanadate (100 M) and N-ethylmaleinimide (100 M). Summmary The Ca2+ uptake activity of rat cardiac sacroplasmic reticulum (CSR) in ventricular homogenates is highly unstable, and this instability probably accounts for the low specific activity of Ca2+ uptake in previously reported fractions of isolated rat CSR. The instability was observed at either 0° or 37°, but the Ca2+ uptake activity was relatively stable at 25°. The decay of Ca2+ uptake activity at 0° could not be prevented by either PMSF or leupeptin, but dithiothreitol exerted some protective effects. Sodium metabisulfite prevented decay of the Ca2+ uptake activity of homogenates kept on ice but not of homogenates kept at 37°. We also found that release of the CSR from the cellular debris required homogenization in high KCI. This distinguishes rat CSR from canine CSR. Isolated CSR was produced by a combination of differential centrifugation and discontinuous sucrous gradient centrifugation. The average rate of the sustained oxalate-supported calcium uptake in the resulting CSR fraction was 0.36 mol/min-mg in the absence of CSR calcium channel blockers and 0.67 mol/min/mg in the presence of 10 M ruthenium red. Thus, this preparation has the advantage of containing both the releasing and non-releasing fractions of the CSR. The Ca2+-ATPase rates averaged 1.07 mol/min/mg and 0.88 mol/min-mg in the absence and presence of ruthenium red, respectively. Although these rates are higher than previously reported rates, this CSR preparation should still be considered a crude preparation. A major distinction between the rat CSR and dog CSR was the lower content of Ca2+-ATPase in rat CSR, as judged by SDS-PAGE. Preparations of CSR isolated by this method may be useful in evaluating alterations in CSR function.  相似文献

Elementary K+ currents were recorded at 19 °C in cell-attached and in inside-out patches excised from neonatal rat heart myocytes. An outwardly rectifying K+ channel which prevented Na+ ions from permeating could be detected in about 10% of the patches attaining (at 5 mmol/l external K+ and between – 20 mV and + 20 mV) a unitary conductance of 66 +- 3.9 pS. K (outw.-rect.) + channels have one open and at least two closed states. Open probability and open rose steeply on shifting the membrane potential in the positive direction, thereby tending to saturate. Open probability (at –7 mV) was as low as 3 ± 1% but increased several-fold on exposing the cytoplasmic surface to Mg-ATP (100 mol/l) without a concomitant change of open. No channel activation occurred in response to ATP in the absence of cytoplasmic Mg–+. The cytoplasmic administration of the catalytic subunit of protein kinase A (120–150 /ml) or GTP--S (100 mol/l) caused a similar channel activation. GDP--S (100 mol/l) was also tested and found to be ineffective in this respect. This suggests that cardiac K (outw.-rect.) + channels are metabolically modulated by both cAMP-dependent phosphorylation and a G-protein. Offprint requests to: M. Kohlhardt  相似文献

Summary Elementary Na+ currents were recorded at 9°C in inside-out patches from cultured neonatal rat heart myocytes. In characterizing the sensitivity of cooled, slowly inactivating cardiac Na+ channels to several antiarrhythmic drugs including propafenone, lidocaine and quinidine, the study aimed to define the role of Na+ inactivation for open channel blockade.In concentrations (1–10 mol/liter) effective to depressNP o significantly, propafenone completely failed to influence the open state of slowly inactivating Na+ channels. With 1 mol/liter, open changed insignificantly to 96±7% of the control. Even a small number of ultralong openings of 6 msec or longer exceeding open of the whole ensemble several-fold and attaining open (at –45 mV) in cooled, (-)-DPI-modified, noninactivating Na+ channels proved to be drug resistant and could not be flicker-blocked by 10 mol/liter propafenone. The same drug concentration induced in(-)-DPI-modified Na+ channels a discrete block with association and dissociation rate constants of 16.1 ± 5.3 × 106 mol–1 sec–1 and 675 ± 25 sec–1, respectively. Quinidine, known to have a considerable affinity for activated Na+ channels, in lower concentrations (5 mol/liter) left open unchanged or reduced, in higher concentrations (10 mol/liter) open only slightly to 81% of the predrug value whereasNP o declined to 30%, but repetitive blocking events during the conducting state could never be observed. Basically the same drug resistance of the open state was seen in cardiac Na+ channels whose open-state kinetics had been modulated by the cytoplasmic presence of F ions. But in this case, propafenone reduced reopening and selectively abolished a long-lasting open state. This drug action is unlikely related to the inhibitory effect onNP o since hyperpolarization and the accompanying block attenuation did not restore the channel kinetics. It is concluded that cardiac Na+ channels cannot be flicker-blocked by antiarrhythmic drugs unless Na+ inactivation is removed.  相似文献

Summary The present study has been performed to test for the effect of intracellular calcium and of serotonin on the channel activity in patches from subconfluent MDCK-cells. In inside-out patches, inwardly rectifying potassium-selective channels are observed with open probabilities of 0.01±0.01, 0.24±0.03 and 0.39±0.07, at 100 nmol/liter, 1 mol/liter or 10 mol/liter calcium activity, respectively. The single-channel slope conductance is 34±2 pS, if the potential difference across the patch (V ) is zero, and approaches 59±1 pS, ifV is –50 mV, cell negative. In the cell-attached mode, little channel activity is observed prior to application of serotonin (open probability=0.03±0.03). If 1 mol/liter serotonin is added to the bath perfusate, the open probability increases rapidly to a peak value of 0.34±0.04 within 8 sec. In continued presence of the hormone, the open probability declines to approach 0.06±0.02 within 30 sec. At zero potential difference between pipette and reference in the bath (i.e., the potential difference across the patch is equal to the potential difference across the cell membrane), the single-channel conductance is 59±4 pS. In conclusion, inwardly rectifying potassium channels have been identified in the cell membrane of subconfluent MDCK-cells, which are activated to a similar extent by increase of intracellular calcium activity to 1 mol/liter and by extracellular application of 1 mol/liter serotonin.  相似文献

Summary The effect of cold and warm intermittent antegrade blood cardioplegia, on the intracellular concentration of taurine in the ischaemic/ reperfused heart of patients undergoing aortic valve surgery, was investigated. Intracellular taurine was measured in ventricular biopsies taken before institution of cardiopulmonary bypass, at the end of 30 min of ischaemic arrest and 20 min after reperfusion. There was no significant change in the intracellular concentration of taurine in ventricular biopsies taken after the period of myocardial ischaemia in the two groups of patients (from 10.1 ± 1.0 to 9.6 ±0.9mol/g wet weight for cold and from 9.3 ± 1.3 to 10.0 ± 1.3mol/g wet weight for warm cardioplegia, respectively). Upon reperfusion however, there was a fall in taurine in both groups but was only significant (P 0.05) in the group receiving cold blood cardioplegia (6.9 ± 0.8mol/g wet weight after cold blood cardioplegia versus 8.0± 0.8mol/g wet weight following warm blood cardioplegia). Like taurine, there were no significant changes in the intracellular concentration of ATP after ischaemia in the two groups of patients (from 3.2 ± 0.32 to 2.95 ± 0.43mol/g wet weight for cold and from 2.75 ± 0.17 to 2.62 ± 0.21mol/g wet weight for warm cardioplegia, respectively). However upon reperfusion there was a significant fall in ATP in both groups with the extent of the fall being less in the group receiving warm cardioplegia (1.79 ± 0.19mol/g wet weight for cold and 1.98 ± 0.27mol/g wet weight for warm cardioplegia, respectively). This work shows that reperfusion following ischaemic arrest with warm cardioplegia reduces the fall in tissue taurine seen after arrest with cold cardioplegia. Accumulation of intracellular sodium provoked by hypothermia and a fall in ATP, may be responsible for the fall in taurine by way of activating the sodium/taurine symport to efflux taurine.  相似文献

A wild-type Ni-sensitive (Nis) strain of Nostoc muscorum ISU spontaneously yielded mutants resistant to inhibition by 40 M Ni with a frequency of about 10-7. A Ni-resistant (Nir) mutant was deficient in the activities of urease and uptake hydrogenase. Cellular Ni uptake in the Nis strain was dependent on concentration (40 to 120 M) and time (0 to 30 min) (Vmax=0.51 nmol/g protein.min; Km=92 M). The Ni bioconcentration factor for such cells ranged between 0.95×103 and 1.89×103. Ni uptake in spheroplast preparations from Nis cells followed almost the same trend as intact cells except that the bioconcentration factor was slightly less [(0.82 to 1.39)×103]. In contrast, Ni uptake in the Nir intact cells was not concentration dependent and also the uptake was saturated, even at 40 M, within 10 min. Spheroplasts from the Nir strain showed a Ni bioconcentration factor of 1.19×103 compared with 4.41×103 for intact cells. The invariably lower Ni uptake by spheroplasts was attributed to altered membrane transport properties.R.K. Asthana, A.L. Singh and S.P. This study addresses the temporal distribution of forms of phosphorus in the soil of a temporarily flooded riparian forest of the valley of the river Garonne (Southwest of France). A sequential extraction for forms of phosphorus of increasing chemical stability was used. During the study period (13 months), the forest was flooded a few days during March and May. In winter, resin-Pi concentration was high (26 g g–1) in comparison to spring values (<9 g g–1). NaHCO3-Po, NaHCO3-Pi or NaOH-Pi concentrations increased during winter (up to 74, 124 and 78 g g–1 respectively) and decreased significantly during spring (32, 44 and 32 g g–1 respectively). This pattern was attributed to simultaneous mineralization and plant uptake during the growing season and to the flood events (erosional processes and P-release). During summer and fall, resin-Pi concentration increased significantly (up to 26 g g–1 in October). NaHCO3-Po concentrations remained low during spring and summer (<33 g g–1), and increased significantly in fall (>45 g g–1 NaHCO3-Pi or NaOH-Pi increased in late spring or summer (90 g g–1 and 68 g g–1 respectively). Increasing concentrations of the labile forms during late spring or summer were ascribed to the warm temperature and soil dryness that limited plant growth. HCl-Pi increased regularly after the floods (174 g g–1 before the flood events to 254 g g–1 after the floods). Residual P presented a similar pattern i.e. 214 g g–1 and 279 g g–1 respectively before and after the flood events. This pattern was attributed to a progressive incorporation of flood deposits to the soil.  相似文献

The effect of lipid peroxidation on the Mg2+-independent and Mg2+-dependent activity of brain cell membrane 5-nucleotidase was determined and the affinity of the active sites of Mg2+-dependent enzyme for 5-AMP (substrate) and Mg2+ (activator) was examined. Brain cell membranes were peroxidized at 37°C in the presence of 100 M ascorbate and 25 M FeCl2 (resultant) for 10 min. The activity of 5-nucleotidase and lipid peroxidation products (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) were determined. At 10 min, the level of lipid peroxidation products increased from 0.20±0.10 to 17.5±1.5 nmoles malonaldehyde/mg membrane protein. The activity of Mg2+-independent 5-nucleotidase increased from 0.201±0.020 in controls to 0.305±0.028 mol Pi/mg protein/hr in peroxidized membranes. In the presence of 10mM Mg2+, the activity increased by 5.8-fold in the peroxidized membrane preparation in comparison to 14-fold in control In peroxidized preparation, the affinity of active site of Mg2+-dependent 5-nucleotidase for 5-AMP tripled, as indicated by a significant decrease inK m (K m=95±2 M AMP for control;K m=32±2 MAMP for peroxidized).V max was significantly reduced from 3.35±0.16 in control to 1.70±.09 moles Pi/mg protein in peroxidized membranes. The affinity of the active site for Mg2+ significantly increased (K m=6.17±0.37 mM Mg2+ for control;K m=4.0±0.31 peroxidized). The data demonstrate that lipid peroxidation modifies the Mg2+-dependent 5-nucleotidase function by altering the active sites for both the substrate and the activator. The modification of the 5-nucleotidase activity and the loss of Mg2+-dependent activation observed in this in-vitro study are similar to the changes previously observed by us in the hypoxic brain in-vivo. This suggests that lipid peroxidation which specifically alters the active site may be the underlying mechanism of the modification of 5-nucleotidase during hypoxia.  相似文献

Summary Elementary Na+ currents were recorded at 19°C in cell-attached and inside-out patch-clamp experiments to study the influence of the vasoactive peptide angiotensin II (A II) and of the diacylglycerol analogue OAG (1-oleoyl-2-acetyl-snglycerol) on open probability and gating properties of single cardiac Na+ channels from cultured neonatal rat cardiocytes. Treating the cardiocytes with A II caused Na+ channel activation: reconstructed peak INa increased to 137 ± 17.5% of control at 3 mol/liters and to 176 ± 42% at 30 mol/liter. This NPo increase developed without major changes in open state and burst activity, even at 30 mol/liter. OAG (6 mol/liter) did not mimic this A II action. By contrast, OAG treatment of the cardiocytes had the opposite effect on NPo and diminished reconstructed peak INa to 67 ± 4.9% of the control. The putative protein kinase C inhibitor staurosporine (0.2 mol/liter) abolished this INa depression and led to a normalization of NPo. OAG had the same effect on isolated Na+ channels. Exposure of the cytoplasmic surface of inside-out patches to 1 mol/liter OAG reversibly depressed, in the simultaneous presence of 50 mol/liter Mg-ATP, the reconstructed peak INa to 40 ± 9.7% of the control but left i unit, open and burst activity unaffected. No NPo depression was obtained in the absence of Mg-ATP indicating that Mg-ATP may serve as phosphate donor. Obviously, after phosphorylation by protein kinase C, cardiac Na+ channels attain a reduced open probability but appear to preserve their kinetic properties. A glasshouse experiment was conducted to study the effect of Ni on the growth and nutrients concentration in wheat (Triticum aestivum Cv. WH 291) in the presence and absence of applied N as urea. Responses to N application were observed up to 120 g N g–1 soil. No response to Ni was observed in the dry matter yield of wheat tops (leaves + stem) in the absence of applied N while in the presence of applied N, significant yield increases were obtained at 12.5g Ni g–1 soil. Nickel was not toxic to wheat up to 50g Ni g–1 soil in the presence of 120g N g–1 soil. Nitrogen and Ni concentration in wheat tops and roots increased with increasing levels of applied N and Ni, respectively. Applied Ni had an antagonistic effect on N concentration. Similarly, N reduced the Ni concentration in the wheat tissues. Positive growth responses to Ni were associated with 22 and 15g Ni g–1 in wheat tops, in the presence of applied N at 60 and 120g N g–1 soil, while Ni toxicity was associated with 63, 92.5 and 112.5g Ni g–1 in wheat tops, in the absence and presence of applied N at 60 and 120g N g–1 soil, respectively.  相似文献

The biosorption of copper oxychloride fungicide particulates(1 m diameter), at concentrations ranging from 25 to 500 ppm active ingredient (ai), by pelleted mycelium of Aspergillus niger grown on Czapek Dox medium was evaluated. The concentration of the fungicide adsorbed to the mycelium, remaining suspended or solubilized in the medium, was determined by analysis of its copper content (CuF)using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). 2-day-old pellets exhibited highbiosorption efficiency ranging from 97 ± 1.0 to 88 ± 1.2% of the initially added fungicide concentrations, respectively, within 10 min. However, underthe same conditions, amounts of the removed fungicide by 6-day-old mycelial pellets were significantly lower and ranged from 0.5 ± 0.03 to 0.15 ± 0.01%. Scanning electron microscopy studies of 2-day-old pellets supplemented with thefungicide revealed predominant aggregations of clumps and dense particulates on the hyphal tips. The adsorbed CuF of 125 ppm ai fungicide subsequently decreased from 7.5 ± 0.5 to 2.1 ± 0.1 mol Cu (mg dry wt)-1 after 12 h incubation. Simultaneously, the soluble portion of CuF remaining in the medium increased from 0.9 ± 0.6 to4.9 ± 0.2 mol Cu ml-1. The presence of 50 mM CaCl2 resulted in a decrease of the adsorbed CuF to 3.5 ± 0.5 mol Cu (mg dry wt)-1 and solubilizedcopper in the medium increased to 5.9 ± 0.8 mol Cu ml-1. Additionally, the cellular copper contents attained after 2 h were 0.08 ± 0.01 and 0.16 ± 0.007 mol Cu (mg dry wt)-1 in absence and presence of calcium, respectively. The addition of calcium to glucose-starved pellets greatly increased the medium [H+] which was conclusively discussed in relation to Ca2+/H+ exchangecapacity of the fungal cells. Cell suspension cultures of Agave amaniensiswere able to grow in media containing 10 – 240 M copper ions, and could remove more than 67% copper ions from the media. The cells accumulated up to 106 mg g–1 copper ions in the biomass. Copper ions at 240 M caused a decrease in growth index and packed cell volume of the cultures of 61.5 and 53.3%, respectively. The presence of copper ions caused the cell walls to thicken and to be more wrinkled. Certain amino acids were released in high concentration into the media. The hecogenin content in the biomass increased up to 157.9% at 20 M copper ions.  相似文献

The role of streambed sediment as a sink for pesticides and heavy metals was investigated in 30 Danish lowland streams. The investigated streams drain catchments varying in hydrology, topography, soil type and land use. The <250 m newly accumulated fraction of the uppermost 1–2 cm layer of streambed sediment was analysed for 19 old and modern pesticides and 9 heavy metals. DDE was present in the sediment of all the streams. Of the herbicides, fungicides and insecticides currently in use, the most frequently detected was diuron (50.0%), fenpropimorph (66.7%) and lambda-cyhalothrin (6.7%), respectively. The pesticides detected in the highest concentration were fenpropimorph (1700 ng g–1), propiconazole (130 ng g–1) and isoproturon (110 ng g–1). The heavy metals are listed in order of increasing median concentration: Cd (0.80 g g–1), Co (9.1 g g–1), As (12.0 g g–1), Ni (19.0 g g–1), Cr (19.2 g g–1), Pb (19.7 g g–1), Cu (20.1 g g–1), V (28.5 g g–1), Zn (103 g g–1). The average number of pesticides detected in the 27 streams draining predominantly agricultural catchments was (3.7±2.0) being higher (p=0.077) than in the three streams draining non-agricultural catchments (1.7±0.6). Pesticides were significantly related to catchment size, soil type and hydrological regime. Several heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Pb, V and Zn) were related to urban activity and soil type.  相似文献

Inputs, outputs, and pool sizes oftotal mercury (Hg) were measured in a forested 10 hawatershed consisting of a 7 ha hardwood-dominatedupland surrounding a 3 ha conifer-dominatedpeatland. Hydrologic inputs via throughfall andstemflow, 13±0.4 g m–2 yr–1over the entire watershed, were about doubleprecipitation inputs in the open and weresignificantly higher in the peatland than in theupland (19.6 vs. 9.8 g m–2 yr–1). Inputs of Hg via litterfall were 12.3±0.7g m–2 yr–1, not different in thepeatland and upland (11.7 vs. 12.5 g m–2yr–1). Hydrologic outputs via streamflow were2.8±0.3 g m–2 yr–1 and thecontribution from the peatland was higher despiteits smaller area. The sum of Hg inputs were lessthan that in the overstory trees, 33±3 gm–2 above-ground, and much less than eitherthat in the upland soil, 5250±520 gm–2, or in the peat, 3900±100 gm–2 in the upper 50 cm. The annual flux of Hgmeasured in streamflow and the calculated annualaccumulation in the peatland are consistent withvalues reported by others. A sink for Hg of about20 g m–2 yr–1 apparently exists inthe upland, and could be due to either or bothstorage in the soil or volatilization.  相似文献
