Summary The autofluorescence of tendon, epimysium and endomysium at the myotendon junction of the deep digital flexor in the bovine forelimb was measured with a fluorescence microscope and with a bifurcated light guide composed of quartz optical fibres. Data were adjusted for spectral variation in the radiance of the halogen illuminator used to standardize the photometer. Samples of myotendon junction were examined intact, in slices several millimetres thick and after being frozen in liquid nitrogen and sectioned at 20 µm. Sections were examined with and without a mounting medium and with and without immersion oil objectives. Type I collagen fibres were identified by their scarcity of branching, relatively large size and yellow staining with silver. Type III collagen fibres were identified by their extensive branching, small size and black staining with silver. Purified Types I and III collagen were also examined. Type I collagen fibres had a strong fluorescence emission peak between 410 and 450 nm and a shoulder at 510 nm. For the strong peak, results obtained by fibre-optics were positively biased relative to those obtained by microscopy. Type III collagen reticular fibres lacked a strong emission peak at 410 to 450 nm. Although their overall fluorescence was weaker than that of Type I collagen fibres, Type III collagen fibres had similar or slightly stronger emissions around 510 nm. The Type I emission spectrum of collagen fibres was converted to a spectrum similar to the Type III spectrum by conditions that caused the fading of fluorescence (storage as dry or mounted sections and exposure of sections to UV light). It is suggested that, with fibre-optic fluorimetry of intact tissues, Type I collagen fibres may emit a pre-fading spectrum while Type III collagen fibres may emit a post-fading spectrum, and that the preservation of Type I and the fading of Type III collagen is a consequence of the surface to volume ratio of their fibres.  相似文献

Sequential changes induced by an equine adenovirus in cultured fetal equine kidney cells were studied by electron microscopy. The first morphological change was the appearance of type I inclusions. These inclusions developed to type II inclusions which appeared as ring forms. Type III inclusions were formed within the central part of type II inclusions and finally filled up most of the nuclear space. As the infection proceeded, type IV inclusions which appeared as dense dark-staining spheres were formed at the center of the type III inclusions and also inside the cytoplasm. These dark-staining spheres developed and their center was filed with light-staining material and virus particles which eventually resulted in the formation of type V inclusions. Autoradiography study showed that types I, II, and III were composed of nucleoprotein and type IV was composed of protein.  相似文献

Summary The fine structure of granulosa lutein cells from three crabeater seals, Lobodon carcinophagus, and two leopard seals, Hydrurga leptonyx, has been studied from early through mid-pregnancy. Analysis of the arrangement and modifications of the cytoplasmic organelles and inclusions has revealed three types of lutein cells throughout the corpus. Type I cell typically possesses a central nucleus and cytoplasm containing very large amounts of smooth and/or fenestrated endoplasmic cisternae which frequently extend from the juxta-nuclear to the periphery of the cell. Type II cell contains a central or eccentric nucleus, moderate amounts of peripheral, smooth and fenestrated cisternae which often form large and concentric membranous whorls, numerous mitochondria and small lipid droplets. Frequently these cells show polarity in the arrangement of the cytoplasmic organelles and inclusions. Type III cell contains predominant large lipid droplets, many mitochondria, and small amounts of smooth and fenestrated cisternae. In light microscopy the type I cell is evenly granular, while the type III cell is highly vacuolated. Type II cells have both granular and vacuolated conditions. Ultrastructural features of type I and II cells suggest that they probably secrete most of the steroids, whereas the primary role of the type III cells appear to be lipid storage.This research was supported by National Science Foundation, Grant No. 1325 from the Office of Antarctic Biology.  相似文献

Individuals from a population of the intertidal sea anemone Actinia fragacea (Tugwell) were collected at approximately monthly intervals over an 18 month period. Samples of gonad were removed from each anemone and examined by light and electron microscopy. During late spring and early summer, large numbers of small cells were seen in the endoderm of the female gonads, lying close to the mesoglea. For convenience, these cells were classified into three types. Type I cells are 6–9 μm in diameter, with relatively very large nuclei, which may contain synaptinemal complexes, and scant cytoplasm containing few organelles. Type II cells are larger, reaching 15 μ m in diameter, with more abundant cytoplasm containing more organelles and inclusions. The nucleus is more dense, but may also contain synaptinemal complexes. Type III cells are less common. They are similar in size to Type II cells, but their nuclei contain irregular dense chromatin masses, and the nuclear envelope is incomplete or absent. The possible significance of the various cell types is discussed. It is suggested that Type I cells are oocytes at a very early stage of differentiation and that Type II cells are rather later oocytes. The status of the Type III cells is uncertain.  相似文献

The thymus glands of adult slimy salamanders (Plethodon glutinosus) were examined by light and electron microscopy with the objective of describing the populations of epithelial cells believed to be secretory. The results of various histochemical procedures designed to demonstrate nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and mucosubstances were evaluated by light microscopy. Each thymus is incompletely subdivided into a variable number of interconnected lobules by trabeculae extending inward from a thin capsule composed of connective tissues. The thymic parenchyma lacks distinct cortical and medullary regions, although developing lymphocytes and plasma cells tend to accumulate in larger numbers in the outermost portions of the glands. Basophils are found regularly in the capsule and trabeculae, but only very rarely within the thymic parenchyma. The epithelial cells of the thymus can be classified into five categories: epithelial reticular cells; three varieties of granulated cells (types I, II, and III), and myoid cells. Epithelial reticular cells form a three-dimensional network which extends throughout all portions of the thymus. Type I and type II granulated cells can be distinguished from one another by various morphological criteria at the ultrastructural level, but only small differences in the composition of their inclusions can be demonstrated histochemically. Both types of granules are composed principally of a proteinaceous material containing an abundance of primary amino and guanidyl groups. In addition, most type I inclusions possess a lipid component that cannot be demonstrated in type II granules. Type III granulated cells possess very small cytoplasmic inclusions resembling those of gastroenteric endocrine cells. Myoid cells contain concentrically arranged myofibrils composed of sarcomeres. In favorably oriented material, small cysts can be identified whose walls are composed of mixtures of type I cells, type II cells, and epithelial reticular cells. Groups of degenerating epithelial cells form lamellated structures corresponding to Hassall's (thymic) corpuscles.  相似文献

Four intracellular prokaryotes are reported from the scallops Pecten novaezelandiae Reeve, 1853 and Chlamys delicatula Hutton, 1873. Elongated (1025 x 110 nm), irregular (390 x 200 nm), or toroidal (410 x 200 nm) mollicute-like organisms (M-LOs) occurred free in the cytoplasm in the digestive diverticular epithelial cells of both scallop species. Those in P. novaezelandiae bore osmiophilic blebs that sometimes connected the organisms together, and some had a rod-like protrusion, both of which resemble the blebs and tip structures of pathogenic mycoplasmas. The M-LOs in C. delicatula had a slightly denser core than periphery. Round M-LOs, 335 x 170 nm, occurred free in the cytoplasm of agranular haemocytes in P. novaezelandiae, without apparent harm to the host cell. In P. novaezelandiae, 2 types of highly prevalent (95 to 100%) basophilic inclusions in the branchial epithelium contained Rickettsia-like organisms (R-LOs). Type 1 inclusions occurred in moderately hypertrophied, intensely basophilic cells, 8 to 10 microm in diameter, containing elongate intracellular R-LOs, 2000 x 500 nm. Type 2 inclusions were elongated and moderately basophilic in markedly hypertrophic branchial epithelial cells, 50 x 20 microm in diameter, containing intracellular organisms 500 x 200 nm in diameter. The possible roles of these organisms in pathogenesis is discussed.  相似文献

We localized collagen types III, IV, and VI in normal rat lung by light and electron immunohistochemistry. Type IV collagen was present in every basement membrane examined and was absent from all other structures. Although types III and VI had a similar distribution, being present in the interstitium of major airways, blood vessels, and alveolar septa, as in other organs, they had different morphologies. Type III collagen formed beaded fibers, 15-20 nm in diameter, whereas type VI collagen formed fine filaments, 5-10 nm in diameter. Both collagen types were found exclusively in the interstitium, often associated with thick (30-35 nm) cross-banded type I collagen fibers. Occasionally, type III fibers and type VI filaments could be found bridging from the interstitium to the adventitial aspect of some basement membranes. Furthermore, the association of collagen type VI with types I and III and basement membranes suggests that type VI may contribute to integration of the various components of the pulmonary extracellular matrix into a functional unit.  相似文献

Bone marrow stromal cells, especially reticular cells and macrophages, are thought to have important functions in the hematopoietic inductive microenvironment (HIM). In order to define the details of their fine structure, the femoral bone marrow of 50 C 57 BL mice was examined by electron microscopy after fixation by vascular perfusion. Almost all the structures of the murine bone marrow stromal cells were similar to those previously reported. Murine bone marrow reticular cells had some isolated cilia (with a frequency of 6.0%) of 9 + 0 pattern in their axoneme. The murine bone marrow macrophages had crystalloid inclusions (CI) that revealed characteristic periodic substructure. These periodic structures could be classified into four types (types A-D). Type A inclusions had a rather amorphous structure and were the most common (with a frequency of 61.9%). Type B inclusions had a periodic lamellar structure oblique to the long axis of the CI itself at intervals of about 3.5 nm. Type C inclusions had a periodic lattice structure at intervals of about 3.7 nm, and were the least frequent (with a frequency of 6.0%). Type D inclusions had periodic laminated structure parallel to the long axis of CI at intervals of about 3.5 nm. Although the true significance of isolated cilia of murine bone marrow reticular cells and the periodic internal structures of CI in murine bone marrow macrophages remains unknown, they must not be ignored as only incidental findings: they may be useful to the understanding of the relationship between function and structure in future research on HIM.  相似文献

Thirteen tobacco calmodulin (CaM) genes fall into three distinct amino acid homology types. Wound-inducible type I isoforms NtCaM1 and 2 were moderately induced by tobacco mosaic virus (TMV)-mediated hypersensitive reaction, and the type III isoform NtCaM13 was highly induced, while the type II isoforms NtCaM3-NtCaM12 showed little response. Type I and III knockdown tobacco lines were generated using inverted repeat sequences from NtCaM1 and 13, respectively, to evaluate the contribution of pathogen-induced calmodulins (CaMs) to disease resistance. After specific reduction of type I and III CaM gene expression was confirmed in both transgenic lines, we analyzed the response to TMV infection, and found that TMV susceptibility was slightly enhanced in type III CaM knockdown lines compared with the control line. Resistance to a compatible strain of the bacterial pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum, and fungal pathogens Rhizoctonia solani and Pythium aphanidermatum was significantly lower in type III but not in type I CaM knockdown plants. Expression of jasmonic acid (JA)- and/or ethylene-inducible basic PR genes was not affected in these lines, suggesting that type III CaM isoforms are probably involved in basal defense against necrotrophic pathogens in a manner that is independent of JA and ethylene signaling.  相似文献

Summary Pituitaries from normal, young and adult male rats were fixed either in sublimate-formalin or in glutaraldehyde-osmium. In adjacent Paraplast sections, almost all the gonadotrophs were immunostained with both LH and FSH antisera. The rat LH and FSH antisera used were shown to be highly specific by the absorption test and by double antibody radioimmunoassay. Thin and thick adjacent Epon sections were prepared for EM and immunohistochemical examination. Cells stained with the rat LH antiserum were identified by LM, and then observed in detail by EM. On the basis of these observations we suggest that the LH cells are arranged in a sequence of basophils, i.e., Types II/III, III, III/IV and IV: Type II/III basophils are elongate with a cytoplasmic process and less vesiculated. They have morphological features of Type II (classical thyrotrophs) and also of Type III basophils. Type III basophils are oval in shape and moderately vesiculated. Both Types II/III and III basophils can be divided into two classes of cell characterized mainly by the existence of only small secretory granules (150–220 nm in diameter) (Type A) or by the coexistence of small and large (350–500 nm) (Type B). Type III/IV basophils are cells intermediate between types III and IV basophils, and moderately vesiculated with an abundance of secretory granules (150–300 nm in diameter). Type IV basophils are large, spherical or oval cells whose RER cisternae are conspicuously dilated; they contain less numerous secretory granules (150–300 nm in diameter). It is concluded that LH cells are not a single cell type, but include a wide range of subtypes.  相似文献

Summary Growth hormone (GH) secretory cells were identified by immunogold cytochemistry, and were classified on the basis of the size of secretory granules. Type I cells contained large secretory granules (250\2-350 nm in diameter). Type II cells contained the large secretory granules and small secretory granules (100\2-150 nm in diameter). Type III cells contained the small secretory granules. The percentages of each GH cell type changed with aging in male and female rats of the Wistar/Tw strain. Type I cells predominated throughout development; the proportion of type I cell was highest at 6 months of age, and decreased thereafter. The proportion of type II and type III cells decreased from 1 month to 6 months of age, but then increased at 12 and 18 months of age. The pituitary content of GH was highest at 6 months of age, and decreased thereafter. Estrogen and androgen, which are known to affect GH secretion, caused changes in the proportion of each GH cell type. The results suggest that when GH secretion is more active the proportion of type I GH cell increased, and when GH secretion is less active the proportion of type II and type III cells increased. The type III GH cell may therefore be an immature type of GH cell, and the type I cell the mature type of GH cell. Type II cells may be intermediate between type I and III cells.  相似文献

The use of synthetic trisaccharides as acceptors led to the definition of five main (1----3)-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase activity patterns in human adult tissues: (I). Myeliod cells, granulocytes, monocytes, and lymphoblasts, transfer an alpha-L-fucopyranosyl group to O-3 of a 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucosyl residue of H blood-group Type 2 oligosaccharide [alpha-L-Fucp-(1----2)-beta-D-Galp-(1----4)-beta-D-GlcpNAc----R] with Mn2+ as activator. (II) Brain has the same acceptor specificity pattern as myeloid cells, but can also use Co2+ as activator. (III) Plasma and liver transfer an alpha-L-furopyranosyl group to H blood-group Type 2 and to sialyl-N-acetyllactosamine [alpha-NeuAc-(2----3)-beta-D-Galp-(1----4)-beta-D-GlcpNAc----R]. (IV) Intestine, gall bladder, kidney, and milk have the same activity as (III), but also transfer an alpha-L-fucopyranosyl group to O-4 of a 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose residue of H blood-group Type 1 [alpha-L-Fucp-(1----2)-beta-D-Galp-(1----3)-beta-D-GlcpNAc----R] and sialyl Type 1 [alpha-NeuAc-(1----3)-beta-D-Galp-(1----3)-beta-D-GlcpNAc----R]. (V) Stomach mucosa is not able to use sialyl-N-acetyllactosamine, but can transfer an alpha-L-fucopyranosyl group to the other Type 1 and Type 2 acceptors. Unlike in adult tissue, a single myeloid-like pattern of (1----3)-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase activity was found at early stages of development in all tissues tested. This embryonic enzyme is later progressively replaced by enzymes or mixtures of enzymes having the corresponding adult patterns of enzyme expression. All lymphoblastoid cell lines and half of the tumor epithelial cell lines tested expressed the myeloid-like pattern of enzyme found in normal embryonic tissues. The remaining tumor epithelial cell lines expressed different forms of (1----3/4)-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase acceptor specificity patterns.  相似文献

Summary The innervation of the gut of the venerid bivalve mollusc, Chione stutchburyi, has been examined by fluorescence histochemistry, electron microscopy and autoradiography. Specific green and yellow varicose fluorescent fibres indicate the presence of dopaminergic and serotonergic axons, respectively. Three different types of axons can be distinguished by the morphological characteristics of their vesicles. Type I axons contain predominantly small granular vesicles (average diameter 65 nm), Type II axons possess large granular vesicles (average diameter 100 nm) and Type III axons contain large opaque vesicles (average diameter 150 nm). The granular vesicles in both Types I and II axons react positively to dichromate, and their granularity is reduced by reserpine indicating that they are monoaminergic. Only Type I axons accumulate tritiated dopamine and are selectively damaged by 6-hydroxydopamine. It is concluded that Type I axons are dopaminergic. Type II axons are serotonergic: they alone take up tritiated 5-hydroxytryptamine, and 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine selectively causes degenerative changes in these axons. Type III axons contain an unidentified neurotransmitter substance. The large opaque vesicles of these axons do not react to dichromate and are unaffected by reserpine, 6-hydroxydopamine or 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine.  相似文献

A systemic examination on the small granule-containing (SGC) cells in rat superior cervical ganglia was conducted by conventional and cytochemical electron microscopy including chromaffin, argentaffin and uranaffin reactions. According to the fine structure of dense cored vesicles (DCVs) in the cytoplasm, three types of small granule-containing (SGC) cells were revealed--Type I: 90-160 nm vesicles with cores of moderate or low electron density; Type II: 130-330 nm vesicles, polymorphic with highly electron dense cores; Type III: elongated vesicles (170 nm x 60 nm) with cores of moderate to low electron density. The majority of SGC cells were the Type I cells (78%) and Type II and III cells made up 13% and 9% of SGC cell population, respectively. Cytochemical results demonstrated that only the Type II cells displayed a positive chromaffin reaction and all three types of SGC cells showed argentaffinity and uranaffinity. The present study is the first to demonstrate the argentaffin reaction at ultrastructural level in SGC cells of sympathetic ganglia. Based on the results of the present study we also concluded that (1) the DCVs of Type II SGC cells contained noradrenaline and (2) biogenic amines and nucleotides (ATPs) coexisted in the DCVs of all three types of SGC cells.  相似文献

Cytoplasmic vacuoles seen in methanol-fixed, Giemsa's-stained ookinetes of Leucocytozoon simondi, Parahaemoproteus fringillae and Plasmodium gallinaceum, when studied with the electron microscope, were found to correspond with crystalloid inclusions of similar structure, particle size, and arrangement. Cytochemical examination of these “crystalloids” revealed their lipid-protein nature. Morphologically similar inclusions were found also in ookinetes of Leucocytozoon ziemanni and Parahaemoproteus velans. In L. simondi, crystalloid is formed rapidly after fertilization, from amorphous electron dense material seen in mature macrogametocytes. The arrangement and distribution of crystalloids in the zygote, ookinete, oocyst, and sporozoite are described. On the basis of differences in structure and particle size, it is proposed that the crystalloid inclusions in Haemosporina be divided into 2 types. Type I—lipid-protein in nature, characterized by electron dense irregularly spherical particles, 25–40 nm in diameter, with individual particles not invested by membrane. Type II—probably virus, characterized by electron dense, irregularly spherical, membrane-bounded particles, with a diameter usually greater than 40 nm.  相似文献

Taste buds are the end organs of taste located in the gustatory papillae, which occur on the surface of the oral cavity. The goal of the present study was to establish a culture model mimicking the lingual taste bud of the mouse. To this end, three cell lines were employed: taste bud-derived cell lines (TBD cell lines), a lingual epithelial cell-derived cell line (20A cell line), and a mesenchymal cell-derived cell line (TMD cell line). TBD cells embedded in collagen gel formed three-dimensional clusters, which had an internal cavity equipped with a tight junction-like structure, a microvilluslike structure, and a laminin-positive layer surrounding the cluster. The cells with this epitheliumlike morphology expressed marker proteins of taste cells: gustducin and NCAM. TBD cells formed a monolayer on collagen gel when they were co-cultured with TMD cells. TBD, 20A, and TMD cell lines were maintained in a triple cell co-culture, in which TBD cells were pre-seeded as aggregates or in suspension on the collagen gel containing TMD cells, and 20A cells were laid over the TBD cells. TBD cells in the triple cell co-culture expressed NCAM. This result suggests that co-cultured TBD cells exhibited a characteristic of Type III taste cells. The culture model would be useful to study morphogenesis and functions of the gustatory organ.  相似文献

Circular dichroism and absorption spectra are measured on mixed solutions of acridine orange and poly(S-carboxymethyl-L -cysteine) at different pH and P/D mixing ratios. The observed circular dichroism spectra are classified into several types, mainly based on the number and sign of circular dichroic bands in the visible region. Three of them are associated with the absorption spectra characteristic of dimeric dye or higher aggregates of dye. Type I is observed with solutions, of which the pH is acid and P/D is higher than 4, and it has an unsymmetrical pair of positive and negative dichroic bands at 470 and 430 nm. This type is induced on the dye bound to the polymer in the β-conformation. Types II and III are considered to be characteristic of randomly coiled polymers. Type II is exhibited by solutions of P/D higher than 1 at pH 5–7 and has two dichroic bands around the same wavelengths as Type I but with opposite signs and an additional positive band at 560 nm. Type III, shown by solutions of P/D 2–0.6 at pH 6–10.5, has three dichroic bands around the same wavelengths as Type II but with signs opposite to it. The other two types of circular dichroism, induced for the solutions of P/D less than 1 at slightly acid pH, are associated with the absorption spectra of monomeric dye and are observed with disordered or randomly coiled polymer. They have a pair of dichroic bands at 540 and 425 nm, and the signs of these bands are opposite to each other in these two types.  相似文献

1. Laccases I, II and III were (EC 1.14.18.1) prepared from the mycelium of the ascomycete Podospora anserina. The tetrameric laccase I(mol. wt 340 000, 16 copper atoms) and the monomeric laccases II and II (mol. wt 80 000, 4 copper atoms) have been studied by optical absorption-, circular dichroism-(CD)and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR). 2. The visible and near ultraviolet difference absorption spectrum, which is apparently identical for all three laccases, shows two maxima at 330 and 610 nm and a shoulder at about 725 nm. The molar extinction coefficients of these bands are 4 times larger for the tetrameric laccase I compared to the monomeric laccases II and III which show values similar to other blue copper-containing oxidases. 3. CD spectra between 300 and 730 nm of the tree laccases are similar and contain at least 5-bands in the oxidized enzyme. If the enzyme is reduced, only a band at 307 nm remains. The molar ellipticity values of these bands are 4 times larger for laccase I than the corresponding bands of laccases II and III. It is inferred that the reducible bands are associated with the Type 1 Cu-2+. 4. In all three laccases the EPR-detectable copper accounts for only about 50% of the total copper content. The 9-GHz and 35-GHz spectra, which are identical for all three laccases, consist of two components of equal intensity. One component shows a rather small copper hyperfine coupling and a small deviation from axial symmetry. It is suggested that this copper is associated with the blue chromophore in analogy to Type 1 Cu-2+ in other blue copper proteins. The other component has a broader hyperfine coupling similar to Type 2 Cu-2+ as found in other copper proteins. The assumption that the experimental spectra result from a superposition of the spectra of equal amounts of Type 1 and Type 2 Cu-2+ has been verified by computer simulation. 5. It is suggested that the copper ions which are not detected by EPR are connected to the absorption band at 330 nm and that these ions are also essential for the function of these laccases.  相似文献

Histochemical and electron microscopic methods have revealed that there are four types of cell inclusions in the late vitellogenic oocytes of Oncopeltus. (a) Type 1 is a vacuole which seems to be contributed from the tropharium via the nutritive tubes. It is suggested that this type consists partly at least of nucleolus-like material (ribonucleoprotein) emitted from the nuclei of the Zone III trophocytes. (b) Type 2 is lipid yolk which in early stage oocytes seems to be produced in the “Balbiani body.” In the vitellogenic oocytes these lipid spheres are apparently imported by the oocyte from the haemolymph either through the follicle cells, or through the extracellular space in the follicular epithelium. (c) Type 3 is carbohydrate/protein yolk where at least part of the protein (“vitellogenic protein”) is taken up from the haemolymph, transported through the extracellular space in the follicular epithelium, and deposited into the oocyte by pinocytosis. (d) Glycogen is deposited from the early phases of vitellogenesis. The tropharium may contribute, besides Type 1 vacuoles, ribosomes, mitochondria, stacks of annulated lamellae, and “food vacuoles” to the oocytes. Specialized cells which line the tropharium and send projections toward the trophic core have been called “peripheral trophocytes.” Contrary to the regular trophocytes, they contain glycogen and an abundance of Golgi complexes.  相似文献

Carbonic anhydrase (CA) distribution and characterization were examined in white and light pink fibers of the dorsal levator muscle of the blue crab. White fibers were structurally and metabolically characterized as fast twitch glycolytic, while the light pink fibers were fast oxidative. All subcellular fractions of both fiber types had significant levels of CA activity; cytoplasmic and microsomal activity was significantly higher in light pink vs white fibers. Cytoplasmic CA from both fiber types was highly sensitive to the inhibitors acetazolamide and chlorzolamide, with Ki values of approximately 2 and 0.4 nM, respectively. Further analysis confirmed that cytoplasmic CA from both fiber types was kinetically similar to the high turnover Type II isoform. It appears that the evolution of the CA Type III isoform, found in vertebrate red muscle, did not occur with the differentiation of metabolic fiber types in crustaceans. Membrane-associated CA, which was also kinetically similar to the Type II isoform, was 20-fold higher in light pink fibers, suggesting a physiological role in facilitated CO2 efflux from the muscle fiber during periods of prolonged maximal activity.  相似文献
