The Story Behind: Pineal mythology and chronorisk. The Swan Song of Brunetto TARQUINI

Brunetto Tarquini became professor of medical semeiotics and cardiology in 1981, and chief of an internal medicine department in 1990, a position he held until his untimely death. As director of the Inter-University Center for Clinical Chronobiology and as coordinator of a post-doctoral school in chronobiology, Brunetto influenced many young Italian physicians. He became the leader of a budding specialty of chronomedicine, coordinating an international group. His focus included temporal aspects of vascular diseases from womb-to-tomb as well as oncological risk factors. His research thus ranged from neonatology over neuroendocrinology to geriatrics, by studies on the pineal in particular, documenting the signature of heliogeomagnetic master switches for circulating human melatonin.     

Apolipoprotein(a): A Puzzling Evolutionary Story

Human apolipoprotein(a), a risk factor for heart disease, has over 80% sequence identity to plasminogen. Plasminogen contains five distinct kringle domains plus a catalytic protease subunit. Human apo(a) consists of multiple copies (the number varies in individuals) of a domain resembling kringle 4, a single copy of a domain resembling kringle 5, and a protease-like domain. The recently cloned hedgehog version of apolipoprotein(a), which contains 31 nearly identical copies of plasminogen kringle 3 and lacks a protease domain, has prompted us to investigate the evolutionary history of the apolipoprotein (a) gene in mammals. Our analysis supports the nonfunctionality of the human apolipoprotein(a) protease domain, and a single (or multiple) duplication of plasminogen gene before mammal radiation, which originated apolipoprotein(a) in mammals. 银川真革螨雄性描述(蜱螨亚纲：寄螨科)

银川真革螨Eugamasusyinchuanensis是白学礼等根据1990年采到的2只雌性标本记述,发表于《昆虫学报》（1994,37（4）：497～500）1990年10月15日,第一作者又在宁夏银川市南郊柳树皮腐烂层采得1♂、1♀．现将雄螨作首次描述。文中测量单位为μm。标本保存在宁夏回族自治区地方病防治所。银川真革螨EugamasusyinchuanensisBat,FangetGu,1994雄螨（图l～5）体椭圆形,739X345。颚体长至颚角尖166,基部宽133,颚毛4对,颚前毛长44,颚内毛43,颚外毛39,颚后毛50。螫肢长3O2,定趾具1列细齿13枚,中间齿突大于两端,细齿下另具1大的齿突…
