A methanolic extract of tubers of Cyperus esculentus Ten. var. aureus Richt. contains compounds which inhibit growth of oat coleoptile sections and germination of Beta vulgaris L., Lotus corniculatus L., Lolium perenne L., Pisum sativum L., Trifolium repens L., Lactuca sativa L. and Lycopersicum esculentum Ludwig. p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid were identified. Four other active compounds which could not be identified were also isolated.  相似文献

Zinc deficiency induces a striking reduction of food intake in animals. To elucidate the mechanisms for this effect, two studies were connectedly conducted to determine the effects of peripheral administration of zinc on food intake in rats fed the zinc-adequate or zinc-deficient diets for a 3-week period. In study 1, two groups of male Sprague-Dawley rats were provided diets made either adequate (ZA; 38.89 mg/kg) or deficient (ZD; 3.30 mg/kg) in zinc. In study 2, after feeding for 3 weeks, both ZA and ZD groups received intraperitoneal (IP) injection of zinc solution with three levels (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mug zinc/g body weight, respectively) and cumulative food intake at 0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 24 h, and plasma hormones concentrations were measured. The results in study 1 showed rats fed the ZD diets revealed symptoms of zinc deficiency, such as sparse and coarse hair, poor appetite, susceptibility to surroundings, lethargy, and small movements. Zinc concentrations in serum, femur, and skeletal muscle of rats fed the ZD diets declined by 26.58% (P < 0.01), 27.32% (P < 0.01), and 24.22% (P < 0.05), respectively, as compared with ZA control group. These findings demonstrated that rat models with zinc deficiency and zinc adequacy had been fully established. The results in study 2 showed that IP administration of zinc in both ZA and ZD rats did not influence food intake at each time points (P > 0.05), although zinc deficiency suppressed food intake. Plasma neuropeptide Y (NPY) was higher, but insulin and glucagon were lower in response to zinc deficiency or zinc administration by contrast with their respective controls (P < 0.05). Leptin, T3, and T4 concentrations were uniformly decreased (P < 0.05) in rats fed the ZD diets in contrast to ZA diets; however, no differences (P > 0.05) were observed during zinc injection. Calcitonin gene-related peptide was unaffected (P > 0.05) by either zinc deficiency or zinc administration. The present studies suggested that zinc administration did not affect short-term food intake in rats even in the zinc-deficient ones; the reduced food intake induced by zinc deficiency was fprobably associated with the depression in thyroid hormones. The results also indicated that NPY and insulin varied conversely during the control of food intake.  相似文献

A study of the cuttings of Salix atrocinerea Brot. was made by extraction with methanol, paper chromatography and Avena coleoptile straight growth test. In the acidic fraction, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA; about 15 μg per kg fresh weight) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHB; about 850 μg per kg fresh weight) were isolated and identified. The growth activity of the different zones is explained by their content of these two compounds. The watersoluble residue, insoluble in ether, showed growth Stimulating activity, which probably is due to a bound auxin (IAA-sugar); alkaline breakdown of this aqueous residue, giving PHB, vanillic and p-coumaric acids, suggests the presence (in the cuttings of Salix atrocinerea) of glycosides with aglycones similar to rhamnacine and scutellareine.  相似文献

Eight strains of cellulolytic cocci were isolated from a 10-8 dilution of rumen ingesta and were presumptively identified as Ruminococcus flavefaciens. Four strains were isolated from a steer fed a purified diet which contained isolated soy protein, and four strains were isolated from a steer fed a purified diet which contained urea. Certain growth factor requirements of these bacteria were determined. All strains grew with clarified rumen fluid added to the medium. However, fatty acids could substitute for rumen fluid in four strains. Two strains isolated from each steer either required or their growth was stimulated by isobutyric and/or isovaleric and/or 2-methyl-butyric acid. These results indicate that, even when a diet was fed which contained no branched-chain amino acids, the carbon skeleton precursors of branched-chain fatty acids, the cattle were still able to maintain a large population of cellulolytic bacteria that require fatty acids for growth. Therefore, the fatty acids appear to be provided by other bacteria, by protozoa, or by the host animal.  相似文献

In order to determine if the growth retardation by dietary exceess glycine could be prevented by the addition of arginine and/or methionine, weanling rats were fed a 25% casein diet (standard) or a 10% casein diet (low protein diet) with a supplement of several combinations of glycine, arginine, or methionine.

The changes in body weight, urinary creatinine, and kidney transamidinase activity were determined. The growth depression effect by excess glycine was prevented considerably in animals receiving standard diet and completely in animals receiving low protein diet by the addition of arginine and methionine to the high glycine diets.

The total urinary creatinine was increased by the supplement of both glycine and arginine, while the growth rate was not invariably raised and kidney transamidinase activity had a tendency to decrease.  相似文献
