While polymer acceptors are promising fullerene alternatives in the fabrication of efficient bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells, the range of efficient material systems relevant to the “all‐polymer” BHJ concept remains narrow, and currently limits the perspectives to meet the 10% efficiency threshold in all‐polymer solar cells. This report examines two polymer acceptor analogs composed of thieno[3,4‐c ]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione (TPD) and 3,4‐difluorothiophene ([2F]T) motifs, and their BHJ solar cell performance pattern with a low‐bandgap polymer donor commonly used with fullerenes (PBDT‐TS1; taken as a model system). In this material set, the introduction of a third electron‐deficient motif, namely 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), is shown to (i) significantly narrow the optical gap (E opt) of the corresponding polymer (by ≈0.2 eV) and (ii) improve the electron mobility of the polymer by over two orders of magnitude in BHJ solar cells. In turn, the narrow‐gap P2TPDBT[2F]T analog (E opt = 1.7 eV) used as fullerene alternative yields high open‐circuit voltages (V OC) of ≈1.0 V, notable short‐circuit current values (J SC) of ≈11.0 mA cm−2, and power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) nearing 5% in all‐polymer BHJ solar cells. P2TPDBT[2F]T paves the way to a new, promising class of polymer acceptor candidates.  相似文献

Reaching device efficiencies that can rival those of polymer‐fullerene Bulk Heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells (>10%) remains challenging with the “All‐Small‐Molecule” (All‐SM) approach, in part because of (i) the morphological limitations that prevail in the absence of polymer and (ii) the difficulty to raise and balance out carrier mobilities across the active layer. In this report, the authors show that blends of the SM donor DR3TBDTT (DR3) and the nonfullerene SM acceptor O‐IDTBR are conducive to “All‐SM” BHJ solar cells with high open‐circuit voltages (VOC) >1.1 V and PCEs as high as 6.4% (avg. 6.1%) when the active layers are subjected to a post‐processing solvent vapor‐annealing (SVA) step with dimethyl disulfide (DMDS). Combining electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) analyses and systematic carrier recombination examinations, the authors show that SVA treatments with DMDS play a determining role in improving charge transport and reducing non‐geminate recombination for the DR3:O‐IDTBR system. Correlating the experimental results and device simulations, it is found that substantially higher BHJ solar cell efficiencies of >12% can be achieved if the IQE and carrier mobilities of the active layer are increased to >85% and >10?4 cm2 V?1 s?1, respectively, while suppressing the recombination rate constant k to <10?12 cm3 s?1.  相似文献

“Nonfullerene” acceptors are proving effective in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells when paired with selected polymer donors. However, the principles that guide the selection of adequate polymer donors for high‐efficiency BHJ solar cells with nonfullerene acceptors remain a matter of some debate and, while polymer main‐chain substitutions may have a direct influence on the donor–acceptor interplay, those effects should be examined and correlated with BHJ device performance patterns. This report examines a set of wide‐bandgap polymer donor analogues composed of benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene (BDT), and thienyl ([2H]T) or 3,4‐difluorothiophene ([2F]T) motifs, and their BHJ device performance pattern with the nonfullerene acceptor “ITIC”. Studies show that the fluorine‐ and ring‐substituted derivative PBDT(T)[2F]T largely outperforms its other two polymer donor counterparts, reaching power conversion efficiencies as high as 9.8%. Combining several characterization techniques, the gradual device performance improvements observed on swapping PBDT[2H]T for PBDT[2F]T, and then for PBDT(T)[2F]T, are found to result from (i) notably improved charge generation and collection efficiencies (estimated as ≈60%, 80%, and 90%, respectively), and (ii) reduced geminate recombination (being suppressed from ≈30%, 25% to 10%) and bimolecular recombination (inferred from recombination rate constant comparisons). These examinations will have broader implications for further studies on the optimization of BHJ solar cell efficiencies with polymer donors and a wider range of nonfullerene acceptors.  相似文献

Solution‐processable small molecule (SM) donors are promising alternatives to their polymer counterparts in bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. While SM donors with favorable spectral absorption, self‐assembly patterns, optimum thin‐film morphologies, and high carrier mobilities in optimized donor–acceptor blends are required to further BHJ device efficiencies, material structure governs each one of those attributes. As a result, the rational design of SM donors with gradually improved BHJ solar cell efficiencies must concurrently address: (i) bandgap tuning and optimization of spectral absorption (inherent to the SM main chain) and (ii) pendant‐group substitution promoting structural order and mediating morphological effects. In this paper, the rational pendant‐group substitution in benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene–6,7‐difluoroquinoxaline SMs is shown to be an effective approach to narrowing the optical gap (Eopt) of the SM donors ( SM1 and SM2 ), without altering their propensity to order and form favorable thin‐film BHJ morphologies with PC71BM. Systematic device examinations show that power conversion efficiencies >8% and open‐circuit voltages (VOC) nearing 1 V can be achieved with the narrow‐gap SM donor analog ( SM2 , Eopt = 1.6 eV) and that charge transport in optimized BHJ solar cells proceeds with minimal, nearly trap‐free recombination. Detailed device simulations, light intensity dependence, and transient photocurrent analyses emphasize how carrier recombination impacts BHJ device performance upon optimization of active layer thickness and morphology.  相似文献

Solution‐processed organic solar cells (OSCs) are promising low‐cost, flexible, portable renewable sources for future energy supply. The state‐of‐the‐art OSCs are typically fabricated from a bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) active layer containing well‐mixed donor and acceptor molecules in the nanometer regime. However, BHJ solar cells suffer from stability problems caused by the severe morphological changes upon thermal or illumination stress. In comparison, single‐component organic solar cells (SCOSCs) based on a double‐cable conjugated polymer with a covalently stabilized microstructure is suggested to be a key strategy for superior long‐term stability. Here, the thermal‐ and photostability of SCOSCs based on a model double‐cable polymer is systematically investigated. It is encouraging to find that under 90 °C & 1 sun illumination, the performance of SCOSCs remains substantially stable. Transport measurements show that charge generation and recombination (lifetime and recombination order) hardly change during the aging process. Particularly, the SCOSCs exhibit ultrahigh long‐term thermal stability with 100% PCE remaining after heating at temperature up to 160 °C for over 400 h, indicating an excellent candidate for extremely rugged applications.  相似文献

Bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photovoltaic devices made of PCDTBT (poly[N‐9′‐hepta‐decanyl‐2,7‐carbazole‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole)]) and PC70BM ([6,6]‐phenyl‐C70‐butyric acid methyl ester) are among the most efficient and stable devices studied so far. However, during a short regime called “burn‐in”, a significant decrease of power conversion efficiency was observed. A study of the photochemical mechanisms involved in the PCDTBT:PCBM active layer exposed to light in encapsulated systems is presented. It is found that the photochemical reactions resulting from the absorption of light by PCDTBT involve crosslinking between the 2,7 carbazole unit of PCDTBT and the fullerene unit of PCBM. Those reactions stabilize the BHJ by avoiding the formation of microsized PCBM crystals known to cause failure of BHJ solar cells. Using classical electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR) (without illumination), paramagnetic defects along the polymer chains have been detected. The kinetics of defects intensity show a burn‐in trend. The evolution of their relaxation times upon aging is in good agreement with a structural change (crosslinking) of the BHJ observed from the nanomechanical properties. Finally, light‐induced electron paramagnetic resonance (LEPR) measurements performed on aged samples revealed that electron transfer is not significantly affected upon aging, confirming thus the stabilization of the BHJ in solar cell operating conditions.  相似文献

A new series of 4‐hexyl‐4H‐thieno[3,2‐b]indole (HxTI) based organic chromophores is developed by structural engineering of the electron donor (D) group in the D–HxTI–benzothiadiazole‐phenyl‐acceptor platform with different fluorenyl moieties, such as unsubstituted fluorenyl (SGT‐146) and hexyloxy (SGT‐147), decyloxy (SGT‐148) and hexyloxy‐phenyl substituted (SGT‐149) fluorenyl moieties. In comparison to a reference dye SGT‐137 with a biphenyl‐based donor, the effects of the donating ability and bulkiness of the fluorenyl based donor in this D–π–A‐structured platform on molecular properties and photovoltaic performance are investigated to establish the structure–property relationship. The photovoltaic performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is improved according to the bulkiness of the donor groups. As a result, the DSSCs based on SGT‐149 show high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 11.7% and 10.0% with a [Co(bpy)3]2+/3+ (bpy = 2,2′‐bipyridine) and an I?/I3? redox electrolyte, respectively. Notably, the co‐sensitization of SGT‐149 with a SGT‐021 porphyrin dye by utilizing a simple “cocktail” method, exhibit state‐of‐the‐art PCEs of 14.2% and 11.6% with a [Co(bpy)3]2+/3+ and an I?/I3? redox electrolyte, respectively.  相似文献

It is shown that the performance of inverted organic solar cells can be significantly improved by facilitating the formation of a quasi‐ohmic contact via solution‐processed alkali hydroxide (AOH) interlayers on top of n‐type metal oxide (aluminum zinc oxide, AZO, and zinc oxide, ZnO) layers. AOHs significantly reduce the work function of metal oxides, and are further proven to effectively passivate defect states in these metal oxides. The interfacial energetics of these electron collecting contacts with a prototypical electron acceptor (C60) are investigated to reveal the presence of a large interface dipole and a new interface state between the Fermi energy and the C60 highest occupied molecular orbital for AOH‐modified AZO contacts. These novel interfacial gap states are a result of ground‐state electron transfer from the metal hydroxide‐functionalized AZO contact to the adsorbed molecules, which are hypothesized to be electronically hybridized with the contact. These interface states tail all the way to the Fermi energy, providing for a highly n‐doped (metal‐like) interfacial molecular layer. Furthermore, the strong “light‐soaking” effect is no longer observed in devices with a AOH interface.  相似文献

A dysprosium‐zinc porphyrin, [DyZn(TPPS)H3O]n (1) (TPPS = tetra(4‐sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin), was prepared through solvothermal reactions and structurally characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analyses. Complex 1 features a three‐dimensional (3‐D) porous open framework that is thermally stable up to 400 °C. Complex 1 displays a void space of 215 Å3, occupying 9.2% of the unit cell volume. The fluorescence spectra reveal that it shows an emission band in the red region. The fluorescence lifetime is 39 µsec and the quantum yield is 1.7%. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement revealed one quasi‐reversible wave with E1/2 = 0.30 V. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Poly(benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene–alt–thieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione) (PBDTTPD) polymer donors with linear side‐chains yield bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) solar cell power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of about 4% with phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the acceptor, while a PBDTTPD polymer with a combination of branched and linear substituents yields a doubling of the PCE to 8%. Using transient optical spectroscopy it is shown that while the exciton dissociation and ultrafast charge generation steps are not strongly affected by the side chain modifications, the polymer with branched side chains exhibits a decreased rate of nongeminate recombination and a lower fraction of sub‐nanosecond geminate recombination. In turn the yield of long‐lived charge carriers increases, resulting in a 33% increase in short circuit current (J sc). In parallel, the two polymers show distinct grazing incidence X‐ray scattering spectra indicative of the presence of stacks with different orientation patterns in optimized thin‐film BHJ devices. Independent of the packing pattern the spectroscopic data also reveals the existence of polymer aggregates in the pristine polymer films as well as in both blends which trap excitons and hinder their dissociation.  相似文献

Unusual local arrangements of protein in Ramachandran space are not well represented by standard geometry tools used in either protein structure refinement using simple harmonic geometry restraints or in protein simulations using molecular mechanics force fields. In contrast, quantum chemical computations using small poly‐peptide molecular models can predict accurate geometries for any well‐defined backbone Ramachandran orientation. For conformations along transition regions—ϕ from −60 to 60°—a very good agreement with representative high‐resolution experimental X‐ray (≤1.5 Å) protein structures is obtained for both backbone C−1‐N‐Cα angle and the nonbonded O−1…C distance, while “standard geometry” leads to the “clashing” of O…C atoms and Amber FF99SB predicts distances too large by about 0.15 Å. These results confirm that quantum chemistry computations add valuable support for detailed analysis of local structural arrangements in proteins, providing improved or missing data for less understood high‐energy or unusual regions.  相似文献

This article reports experimental studies on internal charge dissociation, transport, and collection by using magnetic field effects of photocurrent (MFEPC) and light‐assisted dielectric response (LADR) in highly‐efficient organic solar cells based on photovoltaic polymer PTB2 and PTB4 with intra‐molecular “donor–acceptor” interaction. The MFEPC at low‐field (< 150 mT) indicates that intra‐molecular “donor‐acceptor” interaction generates charge dissociation in un‐doped PTB2 and PTB4 films, which is similar to that in lightly doped P3HT (Poly(3‐hexylthiophene)) with 5 wt% PCBM (1‐(3‐methyloxycarbonyl)‐propyl‐1‐phenyl (6,6) C61). After PTB2 and PTB4 are mixed with PCBM to form bulk‐heterojunctions, the MFEPC at high‐field (> 150 mT) reveals that the charge‐transfer complexes formed at PTB2:PCBM and PTB4:PCBM interfaces have much lower binding energies due to stronger electron‐withdrawing abilities, as compared to the P3HT:PCBM device, towards the generation of photocurrent. Furthermore, the light‐assisted dielectric response: LADR indicates that the PTB2:PCBM and PTB4:PCBM solar cells exhibit larger capacitances relative to P3HT:PCBM device under photoexcitation. This reflects that the PTB2:PCBM and PTB4:PCBM bulk heterojunctions have more effective charge transport and collection than the P3HT:PCBM counterpart. As a result, our experimental results indicate that intra‐molecular “donor‐acceptor” interaction plays an important role to enhance charge dissociation, transport, and collection in bulk‐heterojunction organic solar cells.  相似文献

Remarkable progress has been made in the development of high‐efficiency solution‐processable nonfullerene organic solar cells (OSCs). However, the effect of the vertical stratification of bulk heterojunction (BHJ) on the efficiency and stability of nonfullerene OSCs is not fully understood yet. In this work, we report our effort to understand the stability of nonfullerene OSCs, made with the binary blend poly[(2,6‐(4, 8‐bis(5‐(2‐ethylhexyl)thiophen‐2‐yl)‐benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene))‐alt‐(5,5‐(1′,3′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐5′,7′‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)benzo[1′,2′‐c:4′,5′‐c′] dithiophene‐4,8‐dione)] (PBDB‐T):3,9‐ bis(2‐methylene‐(3‐(1,1‐dicyanomethylene)‐indanone))‐5,5,11,11‐tetrakis(4‐hexylphenyl)‐ dithieno[2,3‐d:2′,3′‐d′]‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′] dithiophene (ITIC) system. It shows that a continuous vertical phase separation process occurs, forming a PBDB‐T‐rich top surface and an ITIC‐rich bottom surface in PBDB‐T:ITIC BHJ during the aging period. A gradual decrease in the built‐in potential (V0) in the regular configuration PBDB‐T:ITIC OSCs, due to the interfacial reaction between the poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) hole transporting layer and ITIC acceptor, is one of the reasons responsible for the performance deterioration. The reduction in V0, caused by an inevitable reaction at the ITIC/PEDOT:PSS interface in the OSCs, can be suppressed by introducing a MoO3 interfacial passivation layer. Retaining a stable and high V0 across the BHJ through interfacial modification and device engineering, e.g., as seen in the inverted PBDB‐T:ITIC OSCs, is a prerequisite for efficient and stable operation of nonfullerene OSCs.  相似文献

To realize efficient photoconversion in organic semiconductors, photogenerated excitons must be dissociated into their constituent electronic charges. In an organic photovoltaic (OPV) cell, this is most often accomplished using an electron donor–acceptor (D–A) interface. Interestingly, recent work on MoOx/C60 Schottky OPVs has demonstrated that excitons in C60 may also undergo efficient bulk‐ionization and generate photocurrent as a result of the large built‐in field created by the MoOx/C60 interface. Here, it is demonstrated that bulk ionization processes also contribute to the short‐circuit current density (JSC) and open‐circuit voltage (VOC) in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) OPVs with fullerene‐rich compositions. Temperature‐dependent measurements of device performance are used to distinguish dissociation by bulk‐ionization from charge transfer at the D–A interface. In optimized fullerene‐rich BHJs based on the D–A pairing of boron subphthalocyanine chloride (SubPc)–C60, bulk‐ionization is found to be responsible for ≈16% of the total photocurrent, and >30% of the photocurrent originating from C60. The presence of bulk‐ionization in C60 also impacts the temperature dependence of VOC, with fullerene‐rich SubPc:C60 BHJ OPVs showing a larger VOC than evenly mixed BHJs. The prevalence of bulk‐ionization processes in efficient, fullerene‐rich BHJs underscores the need to include these effects when engineering device design and morphology in OPVs.  相似文献

In response to pathogens, plant cells exhibit a rapid increase in the intracellular calcium concentration and a burst of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The cytosolic increase in Ca2+ and the accumulation of ROS are critical for inducing programmed cell death (PCD), but the molecular mechanism is not fully understood. We screened an Arabidopsis mutant, sad2‐5, which harbours a T‐DNA insertion in the 18th exon of the importin beta‐like gene, SAD2. The H2O2‐induced increase in the [Ca2+]cyt of the sad2‐5 mutant was greater than that of the wild type, and the sad2‐5 mutant showed clear cell death phenotypes and abnormal H2O2 accumulation under fumonisin‐B1 (FB1) treatment. CaCl2 could enhance the FB1‐induced cell death of the sad2‐5 mutant, whereas lanthanum chloride (LaCl3), a broad‐spectrum calcium channel blocker, could restore the FB1‐induced PCD phenotype of sad2‐5. The sad2‐5 fbr11‐1 double mutant exhibited the same FB1‐insensitive phenotype as fbr11‐1, which plays a critical role in novo sphingolipid synthesis, indicating that SAD2 works downstream of FBR11. These results suggest the important role of nuclear transporters in calcium‐ and ROS‐mediated PCD response as well as provide an important theoretical basis for further analysis of the molecular mechanism of SAD2 function in PCD and for improvement of the resistance of crops to adverse environments.  相似文献

Solid polymer electrolytes as one of the promising solid‐state electrolytes have received extensive attention due to their excellent flexibility. However, the issues of lithium (Li) dendrite growth still hinder their practical applications in solid‐state batteries (SSBs). Herein, composite electrolytes from “ceramic‐in‐polymer” (CIP) to “polymer‐in‐ceramic” (PIC) with different sizes of garnet particles are investigated for their effectiveness in dendrite suppression. While the CIP electrolyte with 20 vol% 200 nm Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO) particles (CIP‐200 nm) exhibits the highest ionic conductivity of 1.6 × 10?4 S cm?1 at 30 °C and excellent flexibility, the PIC electrolyte with 80 vol% 5 µm LLZTO (PIC‐5 µm) shows the highest tensile strength of 12.7 MPa. A sandwich‐type composite electrolyte (SCE) with hierarchical garnet particles (a PIC‐5 µm interlayer sandwiched between two CIP‐200 nm thin layers) is constructed to simultaneously achieve dendrite suppression and excellent interfacial contact with Li metal. The SCE enables highly stable Li plating/stripping cycling for over 400 h at 0.2 mA cm?2 at 30 °C. The LiFePO4/SCE/Li cells also demonstrate excellent cycle performance at room temperature. Fabricating sandwich‐type composite electrolytes with hierarchical filler designs can be an effective strategy to achieve dendrite‐free SSBs with high performance and high safety at room temperature.  相似文献

A new approach to intentionally induce phase transition of Li‐excess layered cathode materials for high‐performance lithium ion batteries is reported. In high contrast to the limited layered‐to‐spinel phase transformation that occurred during in situ electrochemical cycles, a Li‐excess layered Li[Li0.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13]O2 is completely converted to a Li4Mn5O12‐type spinel product via ex situ ion‐exchanges and a post‐annealing process. Such a layered‐to‐spinel phase conversion is examined using in situ X‐ray diffraction and in situ high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy. It is found that generation of sufficient lithium ion vacancies within the Li‐excess layered oxide plays a critical role for realizing a complete phase transition. The newly formed spinel material exhibits initial discharge capacities of 313.6, 267.2, 204.0, and 126.3 mAh g?1 when cycled at 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 5 C (1 C = 250 mA g?1), respectively, and can retain a specific capacity of 197.5 mAh g?1 at 1 C after 100 electrochemical cycles, demonstrating remarkably improved rate capability and cycling stability in comparison with the original Li‐excess layered cathode materials. This work sheds light on fundamental understanding of phase transitions within Li‐excess layered oxides. It also provides a novel route for tailoring electrochemical performance of Li‐excess layered cathode materials for high‐capacity lithium ion batteries.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Ionic liquids (ILs; salts with melting points below 100°C) exhibit wide liquid ranges, non‐flammability, and thermal stability among other properties. These unique salts are best known as “green” alternatives to traditional volatile organic solvents, which are utilized in both academia and industry. Our current study compares the developmental toxicity potential of three representative ionic liquids, with various chain lengths: 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ([C2mim]Cl), 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride ([C4mim]Cl), and 1‐decyl‐3methylimidazolium chloride ([C10mim]Cl). METHODS: From gestation days (GD) 6‐16, mated CD‐1 mice were orally dosed with one of the following: 1,000, 2,000, or 3,000 mg/kg/day [C2mim]Cl; 113, 169, or 225 mg/kg/day [C4mim]Cl; 50, 75, or 100 mg/kg/day [C10mim]Cl; or the vehicle only. Dams were sacrificed on GD 17, and their litters were examined for adverse effects. RESULTS: Fetal weight was significantly decreased in the two highest dosage groups exposed to [C4mim]Cl and [C10mim]Cl in comparison with their controls, but the [C2mim]Cl treated groups were not affected. An apparent teratogenic effect was associated with both [C4mim]Cl and [C10mim]Cl, as the offspring exhibited certain uncommon morphological defects. However, the incidences of malformations were low and no correlation between incidence and dosage could be made. No morphological defects were observed in any of the [C2mim]Cl‐treated groups, despite maternal morbidity at the highest dosage level. CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that [C4mim]Cl and [C10mim]Cl may have adverse effects on development at high maternal exposures and strongly supports the supposition that the toxicity of imidazolium‐based ILs is influenced by alkyl chain length. Quasi-elastic light scattering studies on some polyelectrolyte systems exhibit a somewhat “bizarre” behavior in the profile of the apparent diffusion coefficient Dapp as a function of the salt concentration Cs. As Cs is decreased, Dapp first increases in accordance with polyelectrolyte theories, and then undergoes a precipitous drop in value by over an order of magnitude at a well-defined critical value Cs = C. This “transition” from Cs > C (ordinary) to Cs < C (extraordinary) is referred to as the “ordinary-extraordinary” (o-e) transition. Ghosh, Peitzsch, and Reed [(1992) Biopolymers, Vol. 32, pp. 1105–1122] proposed a “filterable aggregate” (FA) and “other particle” interpretation for the o-e transition and its reversibility in regard to ionic strength changes. The present communication examines in detail the FA model as applied to the o-e transition. It is shown that the FA model fails to account of the established characteristics of the o-e transition. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Nongeminate recombination in organic solar cells based on copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and C60 is investigated. Two device architectures, the planar heterojunction (PHJ) and the bulk heterojunction (BHJ), are directly compared in view of differences in charge carrier decay dynamics. A combination of transient photovoltage (TPV) experiments, yielding the small perturbation charge carrier lifetime, and charge extraction measurements, providing the charge carrier density is applied. In organic solar cells, charge photogeneration and recombination primarily occur at the donor–acceptor heterointerface. Whereas the BHJ can often be approximated by an effective medium due to rather small scale phase separation, the PHJ has a well defined two‐dimensional heterointerface. In order to study nongeminate recombination dynamics in PHJ devices the charge accumulation at this interface is most relavent. As only the spatially averaged carrier concentration can be determined from extraction techniques, the charge carrier density at the interface nint is derived from the open circuit voltage. Comparing the experimental results with macroscopic device simulation, the differences of recombination and charge carrier densities in CuPc:C60 PHJ and BHJ devices are discussed with respect to the device performance. The open circuit voltage of BHJ is larger than for PHJ at low light intensities, but at 0.3 sun the situation is reversed: here, the PHJ can finally take advantage of its generally longer charge carrier lifetimes, as the active recombination region is smaller.  相似文献
