The global energy demand is increasing at the same time as fossil fuel resources are dwindling. Consequently, the search for alternative energy sources is a major topic worldwide. Solar energy is one of the most promising, effective and emission‐free energy sources. However, the energy has to be stored to compensate the fluctuating availability of the sun and the actual energy demand. Photo‐rechargeable electric energy storage systems may solve this problem by immediately storing the generated electricity. Different combinations of solar cells and storage devices are possible. High efficiencies can be achieved by the combination of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC) and capacitors. However, other hybrid devices including DSSCs or organic photovoltaic systems and redox flow batteries, lithium ion batteries and metal air batteries are playing an increasing role in this research field. This Progress Report reviews the state of the art research of photo‐rechargeable batteries based on organic solar cells, as well as storage modules.  相似文献

In the past few years, insensitive attentions have been drawn to wearable and flexible energy storage devices/systems along with the emergence of wearable electronics. Much progress has been achieved in developing flexible electrochemical energy storage devices with high end‐use performance. However, challenges still remain in well balancing the electrochemical properties, mechanical properties, and the processing technologies. In this review, a specific perspective on the development of textile‐based electrochemical energy storage devices (TEESDs), in which textile components and technologies are utilized to enhance the energy storage ability and mechanical properties of wearable electronic devices, is provided. The discussion focuses on the material preparation and characteristics, electrode and device fabrication strategies, electrochemical performance and metrics, wearable compatibility, and fabrication scalability of TEESDs including textile‐based supercapacitors and lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Since the first report of using micromechanical cleavage method to produce graphene sheets in 2004, graphene/graphene‐based nanocomposites have attracted wide attention both for fundamental aspects as well as applications in advanced energy storage and conversion systems. In comparison to other materials, graphene‐based nanostructured materials have unique 2D structure, high electronic mobility, exceptional electronic and thermal conductivities, excellent optical transmittance, good mechanical strength, and ultrahigh surface area. Therefore, they are considered as attractive materials for hydrogen (H2) storage and high‐performance electrochemical energy storage devices, such as supercapacitors, rechargeable lithium (Li)‐ion batteries, Li–sulfur batteries, Li–air batteries, sodium (Na)‐ion batteries, Na–air batteries, zinc (Zn)–air batteries, and vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB), etc., as they can improve the efficiency, capacity, gravimetric energy/power densities, and cycle life of these energy storage devices. In this article, recent progress reported on the synthesis and fabrication of graphene nanocomposite materials for applications in these aforementioned various energy storage systems is reviewed. Importantly, the prospects and future challenges in both scalable manufacturing and more energy storage‐related applications are discussed.  相似文献

The all‐vanadium redox flow battery is a promising technology for large‐scale renewable and grid energy storage, but is limited by the low energy density and poor stability of the vanadium electrolyte solutions. A new vanadium redox flow battery with a significant improvement over the current technology is reported in this paper. This battery uses sulfate‐chloride mixed electrolytes, which are capable of dissolving 2.5 M vanadium, representing about a 70% increase in energy capacity over the current sulfate system. More importantly, the new electrolyte remains stable over a wide temperature range of ?5 to 50 °C, potentially eliminating the need for electrolyte temperature control in practical applications. This development would lead to a significant reduction in the cost of energy storage, thus accelerating its market penetration.  相似文献

The fabrication, characterization, and optimization of large area rolled‐up ultracompact nanomembrane‐based capacitor arrays is demonstrated by combining bottom‐up and top‐down fabrication methods. The scalability of the process is tested on a 4‐inch wafer platform where 1600 devices are manufactured in parallel. By using a hybrid dielectric layer consisting of HfO2 and TiO2 incorporated into an Al2O3 matrix, rolled‐up ultracompact capacitors can have their capacitance per footprint area increased by over two orders of magnitude. Their electrical properties can be precisely controlled by adjusting the oxide composition. Furthermore, the rolling of large‐area nanomembrane‐based structures naturally results in a substantial decrease of the occupied footprint area. Such electrostatic rolled‐up ultracompact energy‐storage elements have a large potential in powering various autonomous microsystems.  相似文献

Relaxor ferroelectrics usually possess low remnant polarizations and slim hystereses, which can provide high saturated polarizations and superior energy conversion efficiencies, thus receiving increasing interest as energy storage materials with high discharge energy densities and fast discharge ability. In this study, a relaxor ferroelectric multilayer energy storage ceramic capacitor (MLESCC) based on 0.87BaTiO3‐0.13Bi(Zn2/3(Nb0.85Ta0.15)1/3)O3 (BT‐BZNT) with inexpensive Ag/Pd inner electrodes is prepared by the tape casting method. The MLESCC with two dielectric layers (layer thicknesses of 5 µm) sintered by a two‐step sintering method exhibits excellent energy storage properties with a record‐high discharge energy density of 10.12 J cm?3, a high energy efficiency of 89.4% achieved at an electric field of 104.7 MV m?1, a high temperature stability of the energy storage density (with minimal variation of <±5%), and energy efficiency (>90%) over a range of ?75 to 150 °C at 40 MV m?1. These results suggest that the BT‐BZNT relaxor ferroelectric ceramic material can provide realistic solutions for high‐power energy storage capacitors.  相似文献

Benefiting from higher volumetric capacity, environmental friendliness and metallic dendrite‐free magnesium (Mg) anodes, rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) are of great importance to the development of energy storage technology beyond lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). However, their practical applications are still limited by the absence of suitable electrode materials, the sluggish kinetics of Mg2+ insertion/extraction and incompatibilities between electrodes and electrolytes. Herein, a systematic and insightful review of recent advances in RMBs, including intercalation‐based cathode materials and conversion reaction‐based compounds is presented. The relationship between microstructures with their electrochemical performances is comprehensively elucidated. In particular, anode materials are discussed beyond metallic Mg for RMBs. Furthermore, other Mg‐based battery systems are also summarized, including Mg–air batteries, Mg–sulfur batteries, and Mg–iodine batteries. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of Mg‐based energy storage technology and could offer new strategies for designing high‐performance rechargeable magnesium batteries.  相似文献

An approach to energy storage using ionic liquids as joint ion‐conducting medium and redox active catholyte material is described. The earth‐abundant ferric ion is incorporated as an oxidizing agent in the form of the low‐melting NaFeCl4 in a 1:1 mixture with ethylmethylimidazolium tetrachloraluminate, an ambient temperature ionic liquid. Different possible anode types are considered, and the most obvious one involving liquid sodium (with special wetting of a sodium ion‐conducting ceramic separator) is tested. The high voltage >3.2 V predicted for this cell is verified, and its cyclability is confirmed. Operating at 180 °C, an unexpectedly high energy efficiency >96%, is recorded. This establishes this type of cell as an attractive candidate for energy storage. For optimum energy storage, high energy efficiency is mandated for thermal management, as well as economic reasons. The theoretical capacity of the cell is 288 Wh kg?1 (418 Wh L?1) of which 73% is realized. The cell is shown to be fail‐safe against internal shorts. As there are many degrees of freedom for developing this type of cell, it is suggested as a promising area of future research effort in the energy storage area.  相似文献

Here an all‐purpose fibrous electrode based on MoS2 is demonstrated, which can be employed for versatile energy harvesting and storage applications. In this coaxial electrode, ultrathin MoS2 nanofilms are grown on TiO2 nanoparticles coated carbon fiber. The high electrochemical activity of MoS2 and good conductivity of carbon fiber synergistically lead to the remarkable performances of this novel composite electrode in fibrous dye‐sensitized solar cells (showing a record‐breaking conversion efficiency of 9.5%) and high‐capacity fibrous supercapacitors. Furthermore, a self‐powering energy fiber is fabricated by combining a fibrous dye‐sensitized solar cell and a fibrous supercapacitor into a single device, showing very fast charging capability (charging in 7 s under AM1.5G solar illumination) and an overall photochemical‐electricity energy conversion efficiency as high as 1.8%. In addition, this wire‐shaped electrode can also be used for fibrous Li‐ion batteries and electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions. These applications indicate that the MoS2‐based all‐purpose fibrous electrode has great potential for the construction of high‐performance flexible and wearable energy devices.  相似文献

The first entirely AM/3D‐printed sodium‐ion (full‐cell) battery is reported herein, presenting a paradigm shift in the design and prototyping of energy‐storage architectures. AM/3D‐printing compatible composite materials are developed for the first time, integrating the active materials NaMnO2 and TiO2 within a porous supporting material, before being AM/3D‐printed into a proof‐of‐concept model based upon the basic geometry of commercially existing AA battery designs. The freestanding and completely AM/3D‐fabricated device demonstrates a respectable performance of 84.3 mAh g?1 with a current density of 8.43 mA g?1; note that the structure is typically comprised of 80% thermoplastic, but yet, still works and functions as an energy‐storage platform. The AM/3D‐fabricated device is critically benchmarked against a battery developed using the same active materials, but fabricated via a traditional manufacturing method utilizing an ink‐based/doctor‐bladed methodology, which is found to exhibit a specific capacity of 98.9 mAh m?2 (116.35 mAh g?1). The fabrication of fully AM/3D‐printed energy‐storage architectures compares favorably with traditional approaches, with the former providing a new direction in battery manufacturing. This work represents a paradigm shift in the technological and design considerations in battery and energy‐storage architectures.  相似文献

Low‐cost and resourceful transition metal phosphides (TMPs) have gradually received wide acceptance in the energy industry through exhibiting comparable catalytic activity and long‐term stability to traditional catalysts (e.g., Pt/C, LiCoO2, LiFePO4, etc.). With the emergence of the research hotspot of TMPs, probing their mechanism of catalytic energy conversion and storage inspired by the superb structure of metal‐phosphorus chelate is of great significance. To this end, recent developments in TMPs with various crystal structures and morphologies have attracted much attention. The design of TMPs ranging from the choice of different transition metals to phosphorus sources has been intensively explored. This research has indicated that multidimensional morphologies of TMPs prominently enrich the patterns of charge storage and electron transportation, and ultra‐nanoscaled TMPs obtained by multiple tools and techniques might challenge the threshold of electrocatalytic reactions. Here, recent developments in synthetic strategies of TMPs from different precursors are classified. The underlying mechanism between the structural and crystallographic characteristics and the tuned properties of TMPs in energy applications is also presented. Additionally, the key trends in structure and morphology characterization of TMPs are highlighted. Future perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing TMPs catalysts are thereby proposed.  相似文献

This study presents a battery concept with a “mediator‐ion” solid electrolyte for the development of next‐generation electrochemical energy storage technologies. The active anode and cathode materials in a single cell can be in the solid, liquid, or gaseous form, which are separated by a sodium‐ion solid‐electrolyte separator. The uniqueness of this mediator‐ion strategy is that the redox reactions at the anode and the cathode are sustained by a shuttling of a mediator sodium ion between the anolyte and the catholyte through the solid‐state electrolyte. Use of the solid‐electrolyte separator circumvents the chemical‐crossover problem between the anode and the cathode, overcomes the dendrite‐problem when employing metal‐anodes, and offers the possibility of using different liquid electrolytes at the anode and the cathode in a single cell. The battery concept is demonstrated with two low‐cost metal anodes (zinc and iron), two liquid cathodes (bromine and potassium ferricyanide), and one gaseous cathode (air/O2) with a sodium‐ion solid electrolyte. This novel battery strategy with a mediator‐ion solid electrolyte is applicable to a wide range of electrochemical energy storage systems with a variety of cathodes, anodes, and mediator‐ion solid electrolytes.  相似文献
