The aim of the present study was to investigate the capability of Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) to tolerate and accumulate high amount of lead (Pb) and propose it for soil phytoremediation. To this regard, plants were grown in hydroponics and treated with different Pb concentrations (10 to 160 ??M) and a fixed concentration (500 ??M) EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid) for 14 and 28 days (d). Effects on total biomass production, photosynthetic pigments and protein contents as well as the quantities of non protein thiols (NP-SH), glutathione (GSH), phytochelatins (PCs) and activity of glutathione reductase (GR) were estimated. Results revealed that roots (575 ??g g?1 DW) and shoots (135 ??g g?1 DW) accumulated Pb after 28 d of exposure, however, addition of EDTA enhanced the Pb accumulation in roots (645 ??g g?1 DW) and shoots (255 ??g g?1 DW ). Exposure of Pb (28 d) registered a significant (P?<?0.05) reduction in growth parameters and induction of phytochelatins (P?<?0.05; r?=?0.26) plus some of the important antioxidants (P?<?0.05; r?=?0.42), which were positively correlated to metal accumulation. Sunflower exposed at 40 ??M of Pb for 28 d synthesized higher quantity of PC2 (18.5 fold) and PC3 (10.5 fold), as compared to control. However, the results showed that addition of EDTA resulted in low toxicity compared to Pb alone. These data support the capability of H. annuus L. to accumulate and tolerate significant quantity of Pb and its utility for phytoremediation. This is because of the plant has the capacity to combat metal induced oxidative stress via significant synthesis of NP-SH, GSH and high activity of GR, as it would provide sufficient GSH not only for PCs synthesis but also for antioxidant function.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to determine the transfer of phenanthrene (PHE) from air to grassland plants and soil compartments and its effects on the plant growth and symbiotic root microorganisms (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and Rhizobium nodules). The experimental procedure exposed Trifolium pratense L. or Lolium perenne L. to atmospheric PHE pollution (150 μg m−3) over the course of one month. PHE was transferred from the air to the leaves and to the soil surfaces. In leaves, PHE was mostly absorbed in the inner leaf tissues, representing 92% and 73% of the total PHE amount quantified in leaves, respectively for clover and ryegrass. In soils, most of PHE contamination was recovered in the top layer (0-1 cm) and did not readily diffuse into the deep layer (1-10 cm). The highest PHE concentration recovered in deep roots (1.8 and 4.5 μg g−1 dry weight (DW), respectively for clover and ryegrass) related to the lowest PHE concentration recovered in its associated soil suggested a PHE translocation from shoots to roots within the two plant species. The large PHE amount quantified in clover shoots (124 μg g−1 DW) induced a significant diminution by 30% of the shoot biomass whereas root biomass remained stable. Efficient mycorrhizal symbiosis was maintained during exposure whereas the Rhizobium nodule symbiosis was altered in the surface of soil. By contrast, neither biomass accumulation nor symbiotic association was affected in ryegrass, probably due to a lower sensitivity of this species to PHE exposure. Perspectives of carbon allocation and nitrogen nutrition perturbations are suggested in clovers.  相似文献

In this work, we studied the effects of cryopreservation on various parameters of early stages of germination of Phaseolus vulgaris seeds (0, 7 and 14?days). Percentages of germination, fresh mass of different plant parts, levels of chlorophyll pigments (a, b, total), malondialdehyde, other aldehydes, phenolics (cell wall-linked, free, and total) and protein were determined. No phenotypic changes were observed visually in seedlings recovered from cryopreserved seeds. However, several significant effects of seed liquid nitrogen exposure were recorded at the biochemical level. There was a significant negative effect of cryopreservation on shoot protein content, which decreased from 3.11?mg?g?1 fresh weight for non-cryopreserved controls to 0.44?mg?g?1 fresh shoot weight for cryopreserved seeds. On the other hand, cryopreservation significantly increased levels of other aldehydes than malondialdehyde in shoots at day 7, from 56.47?μmol?g?1 for non-cryopreserved controls to 253.19?μmol?g?1 fresh shoot weight for cryopreserved samples. Liquid nitrogen exposure significantly reduced phenolics contents (free, cell-wall linked, total) in roots at day 7 after onset of germination. In general, roots were more affected by cryostorage compared with other plant parts, while leaves were the least affected. The effects of seed cryopreservation seem to decline progressively along with seedling growth.  相似文献

The following study was carried out to investigate the cadmium (Cd) accumulating potential of Vallisneria. After subjecting plants to different concentrations of Cd, it was observed that plants are able to accumulate ample amount of metal in their roots (5,542 μg g?1 dw) and leaves (4,368 μg g?1 dw) in a concentration- and duration-dependent manner. Thus, it is evident that the accumulation in roots was 1.3 times higher than the shoots. It was also noted that with increasing Cd accumulation, roots of the plant appeared darker in color and harder in texture. In response to metal exposure, amount of low molecular weight antioxidants such as cysteine and nonprotein thiols (NP-SH) and activity of enzymes such as APX and GPX were significantly enhanced at lower concentrations of Cd, followed by decline at higher doses. It was also observed that in exposed plants, activity of APX enzyme was higher in roots (ca. 3 times) as compared to leaves. However, chlorophyll and protein content was found to decline significantly in a dose-dependent manner. Results suggested that due to its high accumulation potential, Vallisneria may be effectively grown in water bodies moderately contaminated with Cd.  相似文献

A protocol for in vitro production of genetically uniform populations of the medicinal plant Eryngium planum, rich in selected phenolic acids, has been established. Shoot-tips were collected from axenic seedlings and grown on a Murashige and Skoog basal medium supplemented with 6-Benzyladenine (BA) and Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). The highest shoot proliferation efficiency (17 shoots per explant) was obtained when 1.0 mg L?1 BA and 0.1 mg L?1 were added. Proliferating shoots were rooted and transferred to soil (89 % frequency of survival). Flow cytometric analysis of intact (field-grown) and microrpropagated plants revealed that all plants were uniform in genome size and had similar DNA contents. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) analysis indicated that multiple shoots and roots from in vitro-derived plants produced high amounts of phenolic acids, primarily of rosmarinic acid (RA). Levels of phenolic acids in in vitro-derived plants were similar to those of intact plants. Furthermore, high-performance liquid chromatography revealed that root cultures in liquid medium accumulated substantial levels of RA. Thus, rapid establishment of in vitro-grown organ cultures of E. planum can also serve as reliable sources for bioactive compounds.  相似文献

The present study reports, for the first time, an efficient in vitro plant regeneration protocol for Digitalis ferruginea subsp. ferruginea L. (rusty foxglove). We have used different concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA3) on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium to assess the germination frequency of seeds. High frequency of germination was achieved on MS medium with 1.0 mg l?1 GA3. 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) combined with α-naphtaleneacetic acid (NAA) or 2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2, 4-D) in the induction MS medium induced both somatic embryogensis and shoot organogenesis. The highest percentage of callus growth (85 %) was obtained when hypocotyl explants were cultured on MS medium containing 0.5 mg l?1 2, 4-D plus 1.0 mg l?1 BAP. The maximum mean number of somatic embryos (7.3 ± 1.3 embryos) or shoots (12.0 ± 1.1 shoots) per callus was obtained when medium contained 0.25 mg l?1 NAA plus 1.0 mg l?1 BAP or 0.5 mg l?1 NAA plus 2.0 mg l?1 BAP. The regenerated shoots easily rooted on MS medium. Higher amounts of lanatoside C [13.2 ± 0.5 mg 100 g?1 dry weight (dw)] and digoxin (2.93 ± 0.31 mg 100 g?1 dw) accumulation were obtained when shoots were obtained by indirect regeneration. We also investigated derivatives of cardenolides, i.e., digitoxigenin (730 ± 180 mg 100 g?1 dw), gitoxigenin (50 ± 20 mg 100 g?1 dw) and digoxigenin (490 ± 170 mg 100 g?1 dw) from natural samples.  相似文献

We investigated effect of farm yard manure (FYM) and compost applied to metal contaminated soil at rate of 1% (FYM-1, compost-1), 2% (FYM-2, compost-2), and 3% (FYM-3, compost-3). FYM significantly (P < 0.001) increased dry weights of shoots and roots while compost increased root dry weight compared to control. Amendments significantly increased nickel (Ni) in shoots and roots of maize except compost applied at 1%. FYM-3 and -1 caused maximum Ni in shoots (11.42 mg kg?1) and roots (80.92 mg kg?1), respectively while compost-2 caused maximum Ni (14.08 mg kg?1) and (163.87 mg kg?1) in shoots and roots, respectively. Plants grown in pots amended with FYM-2 and compost-1 contained minimum Cu (30.12 and 30.11 mg kg?1) in shoots, respectively. FYM-2 and compost-2 caused minimum zinc (Zn) (59.08 and 66.0 mg kg?1) in maize shoots, respectively. FYM-2 caused minimum Mn in maize shoots while compost increased Mn in shoots and roots compared to control. FYM and compost increased the ammonium bicarbonate diethylene triamine penta acetic acid (AB-DTPA) extractable Ni and Mn in the soil and decreased Cu and Zn. Lower remediation factors for all metals with compost indicated that compost was effective to stabilize the metals in soil compared to FYM.  相似文献

An efficient large-scale clonal propagation protocol has been described for Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal, a valuable medicinal plant, using cotyledonary nodes derived from axenic seedlings. Murashige and Skoog’s (Physiol Plant 15:473–497, 1962) (MS) medium supplemented with 1.0 mg l?1 N 6-benzyladenine (BA) was found to be optimum for production of multiple shoots (100 % shoot proliferation frequency and 16.93 shoots per explant). Successive shoot cultures were established by repeatedly sub-culturing the original cotyledonary node on a fresh medium after each harvest of newly formed shoots. Multiple shoot proliferation was also achieved from nodal segments derived from in vitro raised shoots on MS medium augmented with 1.0 mg l?1 BA. Regenerated shoots were best rooted (95.2 %, 38.7 roots per shoot) in half-strength MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg l?1 indole-3-butyric acid. The plantlets were successfully acclimated and established in soil. Random amplified polymorphic DNA and inter-simple sequence repeats analysis revealed a homogeneous amplification profile for all micropropagated plants analyzed validating the genetic fidelity of the in vitro regenerated plants.  相似文献

This study investigated mercury (Hg) uptake and transport from the soil to different plant parts by documenting the distribution and accumulation of Hg in the roots and shoots of 12 terrestrial plant species, all of which grow naturally in surface soils of the Gumuskoy Pb-Ag mining area. Plant samples and their associated soils were collected and analyzed for Hg content by ICP-MS. Mean Hg values in the soils, roots, and shoots of all plants were 6.914, 460, and 206 µg kg?1, respectively and lower than 1. The mean enrichment factors for the roots (ECR) and shoots (ECS) of these plants were 0.06 and 0.09, respectively and lower than 1. These results show that the roots of the studied plants prevented Hg from reaching the aerial parts of the plants. The mean translocation factor (TLF) was 1.29 and higher than 1. The mean TLF values indicated that all 12 plant species had the ability to transfer Hg from the roots to the shoots but that transfer was more efficient in plants with higher ECR and ECS. Therefore, these plants could be useful for the biomonitoring of environmental pollution and for rehabilitating areas contaminated by Hg.  相似文献

Hypericum hookerianum is a lesser known ethnomedicinal plant having wound healing, antitumor and anti-HSV-1 properties. Isolated nodes of in vitro shoots sub-cultured in the dark for 4 weeks on half strength Murashige and Skoog medium solidified with Gelzan (1.5 g l?1), and supplemented with 2.325 μM kinetin produced 8.0 ± 0.40 etiolated shoots of 5.0 ± 0.62 cm length at 74 % efficiency versus 9.2 ± 0.6 healthy shoots of 4.4 ± 0.5 cm obtained from nodes in light at 96 % efficiency. Low concentrations of hypericin were found in wild plant [0.35 ± 0.09 mg g?1 dry weight (DW)] and control green shoot cultures (0.91 ± 0.03 mg g?1 DW). Etiolated shoots exposed to a 12 h photoperiod (50 μmol m?2 s?1) through 1–25 days turned red incrementally due to synthesis and accumulation of 0.1–3.83 mg g?1 DW hypericin in sub-epidermal cortical cells of the stem and varied shaped cells of the distorted mesophyll. Flavonoid and anthocyanin concentrations of the etiolated shoots subjected to the 12 h photoperiod were 3–5 fold higher than the control shoot cultures while total chlorophylls [1.97 ± 0.05 mg g?1 fresh weight (FW)] of the light exposed shoots were significantly less compared to the control (2.86 ± 0.18 mg g?1 FW) and natural plant (6.82 ± 0.29 mg g?1 FW). HPLC analysis of shoot extracts revealed the presence of 0.14 ± 0.03, 0.16 ± 0.02 and 1.45 ± 0.16 mg g?1 DW hyperforin in wild plant, control shoot cultures and etiolated shoot cultures illuminated for 25 days, respectively. Despite a reasonable presence in etiolated shoots (0.61 ± 0.15 g?1 FW), total phenols did not increase significantly during illumination. The results indicate light induced synthesis of anti-depressant phenolic derivatives (hypericin, hyperforin and flavonoids) in etiolated shoot cultures of H. hookerianum.  相似文献

Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch., a valuable medicinal plant, was successfully propagated in vitro using shoot tip explants. Shoot multiplication was performed in glass tubes and in a nutrient sprinkle bioreactor. A mixture of 0.1 mg L?1 indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and 1.0 mg L?1 of 6-benzylaminopurine in Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar-solidified medium proved the best combination for multiple shoot induction, yielding 8.2 shoots per explant after 4 weeks of culture in glass tubes. The number of shoots increased to 21 per explant when the same combination of growth regulators was used in a nutrient sprinkle bioreactor. The shoots rooted with a frequency of 93 % after 6 weeks of culture on MS agar medium supplemented with IAA (0.1 mg L?1) before being acclimatized in the greenhouse. The antioxidant activities of methanolic extracts from the leaves and roots of the in vitro-regenerated plants of R. glutinosa cultivated in the greenhouse were evaluated using four in vitro assays: scavenging of free radicals (DPPH and ABTS), transition metal reduction and total antioxidant activity phosphomolybdenum test. In all cases, the methanolic extract from leaves demonstrated better antioxidant activity than those taken from roots. A strong correlation was found between total phenolic and flavonoid content, and the antioxidant capacity of the studied extracts.  相似文献

A rapid and efficient method for in vitro direct plant regeneration from immature leaf roll explants of Saccharum officinarum L. (sugarcane) cv. Co 86032 was developed by the application of exogenous polyamines (PA). The effect of explant source from apical meristems and pre-culture of explants in the dark on shoot regeneration was studied. Adventitious shoot regeneration occurred on the proximal regions of immature leaf roll explants when pre-incubated in the dark for 2 wk and the regeneration response was decreased from the middle to distal end. A higher number of direct shoots (130 primary shoots explant?1) and multiple shoots (657 secondary shoots explant?1), were obtained with a combination of spermidine (103.27 μM), spermine (49.42 μM), and putrescine (31.04 μM) along with plant growth regulators. Shoot induction was increased up to twofold and multiplication was increased up to threefold in the medium supplemented with PA. Profuse rooting was observed in putrescine (93.12 μM), spermidine (68.84 μM), and spermine (24.71 μM), with mean number of 57 roots. A twofold increase in the number of roots was observed in medium supplemented with PA with respect to control cultures, which facilitated the successful transplantation and acclimatization process of in vitro propagated sugarcane plants. Histology and scanning electron microscopy analyses supported adventitious direct shoot regeneration from immature leaf roll explants. The genetic stability of in vitro regenerated plants was confirmed using start codon targeted polymorphism marker system.  相似文献

A study quantifying the interactive effects of cadmium (Cd) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on plant growth and Cd accumulation of pot-cultured Spartina alterniflora was conducted. The experiment consisted of two Cd levels (50, 200 mg kg?1) as well as two CNTs levels (800, 2,400 mg kg?1). As expected, CNTs alleviated higher Cd stress (200 mg kg?1) due to restored shoot growth reduction, retrieved water content and resumed plant height. Furthermore, CNTs mitigated the deleterious effects of Cd stress through improving K+ and Ca2+ contents, while reducing Na+/K+ and Na+/Ca2+ ratios, regardless of the level of Cd stress. The proline contents in combined Cd and CNTs treatments were lower than Cd alone, suggesting that CNTs could reduce production of organic solutes under Cd stress. The results also showed higher Cd accumulation in roots than shoots, and both were improved by CNTs, except inhibition in roots under higher Cd stress (200 mg kg?1). It appears that CNTs may not significantly affect negative Cd effects on growth of S. alterniflora, but improve total Cd accumulation under lower Cd stress (50 mg kg?1). However, under higher Cd stress (200 mg kg?1), CNTs restored the reduced plant growth, improved and reduced Cd accumulation in shoots and roots, respectively. Therefore, the effects of CNTs on plant growth and Cd accumulation are different, and levels of Cd stress should be considered when evaluating the combined application of CNTs and S. alterniflora on phytoremediation of Cd pollution.  相似文献

Eryngium planum L. cell and organ cultures were maintained on Murashige and Skoog media (MS), supplemented with exogenous hormones of different types and various concentrations for high biomass growth. The callus and cell suspension cultures were treated with increased sucrose concentration and/or elicited by methyl jasmonate for the enhancement of selected phenolic acids accumulation. Three phenolic acids, rosmarinic acid (RA), chlorogenic acid (CGA) and caffeic acid (CA), were detected by HPLC-DAD in those cultures. The sum of their content in the dry material was found to be higher in the shoot culture (3.95 mg g?1), root culture (7.05 mg g?1), callus (6.20 mg g?1) and cell suspension (2.04 mg g?1) than in the leaves (1.87 mg g?1) and roots (0.76 mg g?1) of intact plants. The major compound of in vitro cultures was always rosmarinic acid. The content of RA could be increased approximately threefold (16.24 mg g?1) in the callus culture and approximately twofold (3.91 mg g?1) in the cell suspension culture by elicitation with 100 μM methyl jasmonate (MeJA). The higher concentration of sucrose (S) in the medium (5, 6 %) led to over a twofold increase of CGA content in the callus culture (2.54 mg g?1). The three mentioned phenolic acids have been found in E. planum undifferentiated and differentiated in vitro cultures for the first time.  相似文献

Drimia robusta is a threatened traditional medicinal plant extensively used in South Africa. Rapid in vitro mass propagation of the species was developed for commercial cultivation from leaf explants using various concentrations and combinations of plant growth regulators and organic elicitors. The highest number of regenerated shoots per explant (14.6 ± 0.54) was obtained on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with a combination of 2.27 μM thidiazuron (TDZ), 2.22 μM benzyladenine (BA) and 20 μM glutamine. Adventitious shoots were rooted and the plantlets were successfully acclimatized (100 %) in a vermiculite-soil mixture (1:1 v/v) in the greenhouse. Proscillaridin A (PsA) content and the antibacterial activity of in vitro and ex vitro regenerated plants were evaluated in different tissues in comparison to naturally-grown plants. The highest content of PsA (19.68 μg mg?1 DW) was recorded in roots of ex vitro plants which were grown on MS medium containing 2.27 μM TDZ, 2.22 μM BA and 100 mg l?1 casein hydrolysate. In vitro regenerated plants grown on MS medium containing 2.27 μM TDZ, 2.22 μM BA and 50.8 μM MBZ gave high antibacterial activity (MIC of 0.156 mg ml?1) against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Using this protocol the regenerated plants can be used in traditional medicine as an alternative to naturally collected plants.  相似文献

A simple and efficient regeneration protocol was developed for watermelon from cotyledonary node explants excised from 7-day-old in vitro grown seedlings. This study describes the effect of amino acids and polyamines (PAs) along with plant growth regulators (PGRs) on multiple shoot induction and rooting. The highest number of multiple shoots (46.43 shoots/explant) was obtained from cotyledonary node and they were also elongated (6.3 cm/shoot) on MS medium supplemented with 1 mg l??1 N 6 –Benzyladenine (BA), 5 mg l??1 leucine, and 10 mg l??1 spermidine. The elongated shoots developed profuse roots (23.03 roots/shoot) in MS medium containing 1 mg l??1 indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), 5 mg l??1 isoleucine, and 10 mg l??1 putrescine. All the rooted plantlets were successfully hardened and acclimatized in the greenhouse with a survival rate of 98%. The present study described an efficient method to obtain a 1.5-fold increase in the number of shoots, compared with the available regeneration protocols for watermelon. The plants developed in this study showed fivefold higher photosynthetic pigments compared to the control plants. The genetic fidelity of the regenerated plants was evaluated by SCoT and RAPD marker analyses, and banding patterns confirmed the true-to-type nature of in vitro regenerated plants.  相似文献

A rapid micropropagation system for Scabiosa tschiliensis Grunning, an ethnic medicinal plant, has been developed. Calluses were induced from leaf and petiole explants on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2.0 mg l?1 thidiazuron and 0.5 mg l?1 2,4-dicholorophenoxyacetic acid. In this medium, callus induction rate was about 94.05 %. Adventitious shoots developed from leaf (86.30 %) and petiole (83.33 %) calluses when cultured on MS medium containing 4.0 or 2.0 mg l?1 N6-benzyladenine (BA), respectively. Up to 73.85 % of the regenerated shoots formed complete plantlets on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg l?1 indole-3-butyric acid, with an average of 3.25 roots per shoot. Quantitative analysis of flavonoids showed that the phytochemical profiles of calluses and regenerated plants were similar to that of wild-type plants. The 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay revealed that the flavonoid extracts of calluses, adventitious shoots and wild-type plants had stronger antioxidant activities, the inhibitory concentrations being 23.944, 31.329 and 26.502 μg ml?1, respectively, where 50 % of DPPH was scavenged (IC50). Results showed that this perennial herb could be used as a potential source of new natural antioxidants.  相似文献

In this study, adventitious roots of Panax quinquefolium L. have been successfully established. The highest induction rate of roots was obtained in MS medium containing 3 mg L?1 IBA after 4 weeks of culture. The culture conditions of adventitious root were optimized and evaluated with response surface methodology. The best culture conditions for root growth seemed to be 0.75 salt strength MS medium, 4.70 g L?1 inoculum size and 40 days of culture. The active component contents of adventitious roots were compared with those of native roots. The total saponins content was found to be 16.28 mg g?1 in native root and 4.64 mg g?1 in adventitious root. The polysaccharide content of the adventitious root was 1.5 times higher than that in the native P. quinquefolium (30.54 vs. 20.28 mg g?1).  相似文献

Given that Cd accumulates within plant tissues to levels that are toxic to animals, it is necessary to understand the role of plants in highly Cd-contaminated systems and their subsequent impact on the health of animals. A solution culture experiment was conducted to elucidate the effects of increasing Cd2+ activity ({Cd2+}) on growth of Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana Kunth.) and signal grass (Brachiaria decumbens Stapf.). The shoot and root fresh mass of both Rhodes grass and signal grass was reduced by 50% at ca. 0.5 µM {Cd2+}. Elevated {Cd2+} resulted in a significant decrease in the tissue Mn concentration for both the shoots and roots, and caused a chlorosis of the veins in the shoots. Root hair growth was prolific even at high {Cd2+}, thus root hair growth appeared to be less sensitive to elevated Cd than was root growth per se. The critical shoot tissue concentrations (50% reduction in growth), 230 µg g?1 for Rhodes grass and 80 µg g?1 for signal grass, exceeded the maximum level of Cd tolerated in the diet of animals (ca. 5 µg g?1). When assessing the risk associated with the revegetation of Cd-contaminated sites with Rhodes grass or signal grass, careful consideration must be given, therefore, to the transfer of toxic concentrations of Cd to grazing animals and through the wider food chain.  相似文献

Coronopus didymus was examined in terms of its ability to remediate Pb-contaminated soils. Pot experiments were conducted for 4 and 6 weeks to compare the growth, biomass, photosynthetic efficiency, lead (Pb) uptake, and accumulation by C. didymus plants. The plants grew well having no visible toxic symptoms and 100% survivability, exposed to different Pb-spiked soils 100, 350, 1500, and 2500 mg kg?1, supplied as lead nitrate. After 4 weeks, root and shoot concentrations reached 1652 and 502 mg Pb kg?1 DW, while after 6 weeks they increased up to 3091 and 527 mg Pb kg?1 DW, respectively, at highest Pb concentration. As compared to the 4 week experiments, the plant growth and biomass yield were higher after 6 weeks of Pb exposure. However, the chlorophyll content of leaves decreased but only a slight decline in photosynthetic efficiency was observed on exposure to Pb at both 4 and 6 weeks. The Pb accumulation was higher in roots than in the shoots. The bioconcentration factor of Pb was > 1 in all the plant samples, but the translocation factor was < 1. This suggested C. didymus as a good candidate for phytoremediation of Pb-contaminated soils and can be used for future remediation purposes.  相似文献
