MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and 13C NMR spectroscopy were applied to unveil typical characteristics of condensed tannins of leaves and needles from willow (Salix alba), spruce (Picea abies) and beech (Fagus sylvatica) of three tree species that are ubiquitous in German forests and landscapes. For further evaluation, lime (Tilia cordata) was included. The 13C NMR spectroscopy confirmed the purity of the condensed tannin fractions and the efficiency of the procedure used for their extraction. While signals representative for procyanidin units are observable in all liquid-state 13C NMR spectra, resonance lines of prodelphinidin were only detected in those obtained from the condensed tannins of spruce needles and beech leaves. Typical signals in the chemical shift region between 70 and 90 ppm demonstrated the presence of stereoisomers (catechin/epicatechin; gallocatechin/ epigallocatechin). The MALDI-TOF mass spectra of the condensed tannins show signals of polymers of up to undecamers. Supporting the observations from the NMR spectroscopy, the mass spectra of the willow and lime leaf condensed tannins were identified as polymers with mainly procyanidin units, while the polymers of the spruce needle and beech leaves exhibit varying procyanidin/prodelphinidin ratios. Post source decay (PSD) fragmentation lead to a sequential loss of monomers and allowed a detailed characterization and sequencing of individual chains. In the case of the condensed tannins of lime this technique clearly excludes a pelargonidin terminal unit followed by a prodelphinidin unit, which would result in the same molecular masses as a polymer solely built up of procyanidin units.  相似文献

Synthesis of procyanidin B2 and B3 gallate derivatives, 3-O-gallate, 3″-O-gallate, and 3,3″-di-O-gallate, were synthesized using equimolar condensation mediated by Yb(OTf)3. Synthesized compounds showed significant antitumor effects against human prostate PC-3 cell lines. Their activities were weaker than well-known EGCG and prodelphinidin B3.  相似文献

Most species of Ribes are exceptionally rich in prodelphinidin and have no ellagitannins, but some species in certain subsections, nearly all montane in their habitat, contain ellagitannins and are poor in prodelphinidin. Ellagitannins, therefore seem to be produced at the expense of prodelphinidin and their presence is a derived, and not, as thought previously, a primitive character. The flavonoid pattern of the lowland species is very uniform and primitive, with unusually few irregular constituents. The possible origin of Ribes is discussed in relation to other genera of Saxifragaceae and related families, and the conclusion is reached that none of these can be considered as ancestral to Ribes. It is therefore surprising that the fossil record can trace the genus with confidence no further back than the Miocene.  相似文献

Sorghum vulgare seeds contain a proanthocyanidin polymer consisting largely of 2,3-cis procyanidin units with M?n, 2500. Hordeum vulgare ears contain low levels of proanthocyanidin oligomers containing 2–4 units, and composed largely of 2,3-trans procyanidin and prodelphinidin units with catechin as the terminal unit. The concentration of the oligomers in barley ears was virtually constant throughout the 33 day growth and ripening period.  相似文献

Procyanidin oligomers in Cinnamon are thought to be responsible for the biological activity in the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). To clarify types of procyanidin oligomers in different Cinnamon species and investigate their different effects, the present study investigated procyanidin oligomers in polyphenolic oligomer-rich extracts of three Cinnamon samples by LC-MS methods, and their hypoglycemic activities were detected in vivo and in vitro. The results showed that two of the three samples from Cinnamomum cassia were rich in B-type procyanidin oligomers, and the other sample was rich in A-type procyanidin oligomers. The Cinnamon extracts were administered at doses of 200 and 300 mg/kg body wt. in high-fat diet-fed and low-dose streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice for 14 days. The results showed that blood glucose concentrations were significantly decreased in all Cinnamon extract groups compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Administration of the Cinnamon extracts significantly increased the consumption of extracellular glucose in insulin-resistant HepG2 cells and normal HepG2 cells compared with the control group. These results suggest that both A- and B-type procyanidin oligomers in different Cinnamon species have hypoglycemic activities and may improve insulin sensitivity in type 2 DM.  相似文献

The quantity and quality of tannins extractable from commercial wattle grown in Kenya (Acacia mearnsii) and from nineAcacia species indigenous to Kenya (A. hockii, A. kirkii, A. mellifera, A. nilotica, A. polyacantha, A. sayel, A. Senegal, A. sieberiana, andA. xanthophloea) has been examined by means of three different assay procedures including the official hide-powder method employed by the leather trade. This revealed thatA. hockii, A. kirkii, A. senegel andA. xanthophloea all produced tannin in amounts comparable to wattle but in each case the protein precipitating capacity of the extract was different from that of wattle, suggestive of rapid complexation that would lead to a poor quality leather. Protein precipitating profiles comparable to that of wattle extract could, however, be produced by mixing the extracts of tannin-rich species with those of other species which, while relatively rich in extractable matter, appeared to have relatively little tannin. Suggestions are made for further studies that could lead to acceptable vegetable tannin being produced from indigenous KenyanAcacia species.  相似文献

Proanthocyanidin contents of needles ranged from a mean of 150 to 300 μg per mg dry wt in five species from five genera of the Taxodiaceae, Sequoiadendron giganteum (Lindl.) Bucch., Metasequoiaglyptostroboides H. Hu and Cheng, Sequoia sempervirens (D. Don) Endl., Taxodium distichum L. Rich., and Sciadopitys verticillata Siebold and Zucc. However, significantly lower amounts (70 μg per mg dry wt) were found in Cryptomeria japonica (L.f.) D. Don. This latter species as well as Sciadopitys verticillata, contained little or no prodelphinidin, while the other four species contained a ratio of procyanidin to prodelphinidin up to about 1:5. These data were based on analyses from three trees from each species. In addition, one tree from each species was examined in more detail. The major flavan-3-ol in all cases was (+)-catechin, with only non-detectable or trace amounts of (–)-epicatechin. The triphenolic flavan-3-ol, (+)-gallocatechin, was a minor constituent in all species, except Sciadopitys and Cryptomeria. The (–)-epigallocatechin was detected in Metasequoia, Sequoiadendron and Sequoia. All contained either (–)-epicatechin-(+)-catechin or (+)-catechin-(+)-catechin as the major procyanidin dimer. Prodelphinidin dimers were only tentatively identified.  相似文献

The tannins of the leaves of Viburnum and Hydrangea species consist of proanthocyanidins only, but in each genus the range is very wide. In several species of Hydrangea the proanthocyanidins are of the A type, otherwise they are mostly tri- or tetrameric B type. Tannin content is correlated with evolutionary advancement, the more advanced and more widely dispersed species having the less. Species with most tannin occur in E. Asia and E. N. America, but species with little or no tannin are present in both areas. The occurrence in both genera of globose inflorescences with sterile flowers is correlated neither with morphological nor with chemical characters.  相似文献

Rodent population dynamics are predicted to respond positively to the masting of acorns, but diverging results have been published. This study tested the hypothesis that population responses to acorn masting vary depending on differences in the tolerance to tannins of different rodent species. The effects of acorn abundance on the rodent population densities were analyzed using a dataset obtained in Hokkaido, Japan. Specifically, population fluctuations of three rodent species (Apodemus speciosus, A. argenteus, and Myodes rufocanus) and the abundance of Quercus crispula acorns have been monitored since 1992. Acorn production in previous years had a positive effect on the annual population growth rates of A. speciosus; however, this trend was not clear in the other two species. Tannin tolerance, assessed by body weight changes in an acorn feeding experiment, exhibited clear differences among the rodent species; namely, the body weight of A. speciosus increased, whereas that of the other two species decreased. The observed responses to acorn masting of populations of the three sympatric rodent species reflected tannin tolerance. It suggests that only populations of species with high tannin tolerance positively respond to acorn masting. Previous studies tend to overlook species-specific abilities of coping with tannins in acorns. Our results emphasize the necessity of evaluating the tannin tolerance of rodents and the tannin content of acorns to understand how rodent population dynamics and acorn production are related.  相似文献

3-Glucosides and 3,5-diglucosides of pelargonidin, cyanidin, peonidin, delphinidin, petunidin and malvidin have been identified as flower pigments in Fuchsia species. These pigments in varying admixture appear to be solely responsible for different flower colours in this genus. Their production and inheritance seems to be under a complex system of genetic control.  相似文献

Content of total proanthocyanidins as well as total phenolics, flavonoids, antioxidant activities were evaluated for litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) pulp of 32 cultivars. One cultivar, Hemaoli, showed the highest total proanthocyanidins and total phenolics, and DPPH or ABTS radical scavenging activities. ESI-MS and NMR analysis of the Hemaoli pulp crude extracts (HPCE) showed that procyandins composed of (epi)catechin unites with degree of polymerization (DP) of 2–6 were dominant proanthocyanidins in HPCE. After the HPCE was fractionated by a Sephadex LH-20 column, 32 procyanidins were identified by LC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS in litchi pulp for the first time. Quantification of individual procyanidin in HPCE indicated that epicatechin, procyanidin B2, procyanidin C1 and A-type procyanidin trimer were the main procyanidins. The radical scavenging activities of different fractions of HPCE as well as six procyanidins standards were evaluated by both DPPH and ABTS assays. HPCE fractions showed similar antioxidant activities with those of Vc and six individual procyanidins, the IC50 of which ranged from 1.88 ± 0.01 to 2.82 ± 0.10 μg/ml for DPPH assay, and from 1.52 ± 0.17 to 2.71 ± 0.15 μg/ml for ABTS assay. Such results indicate that litchi cultivars rich in proanthocyanidins are good resources of dietary antioxidants and have the potential to contribute to human health.  相似文献

A study of the anthocyanins in a representative sample (34 species from 14 genera) of Polemoniaceae has shown that the pigment type in the flowers is broadly correlated with pollination ecology. Thus, hummingbird pollinated species such as Ipomopsis aggregata generally contain pelargonidin sometimes with cyanidin, while bee and beefly pollinated species (e.g. Gilia latiflora) contain mainly delphinidin. On the other hand, lepidopteran species such as Leptodactylon californicum have cyanidin or mixtures of cyanidin with delphinidin. The above three anthocyanidins occur usually as the 3-glucoside, 3,5-diglucoside, 3-(p-coumarylglucoside) and 3-(p-coumarylglucoside)-5-glucoside, although other types are occasionally found. The distribution of glycosidic types and of acylation, unlike that of the anthocyanidins, is more closely correlated with systematic position than with pollinating vectors. In autogamous species where animal pollination is absent or unimportant, anthocyanin pigmentation in the flowers retains the complexity present in related animal-pollinated taxa. Anthocyanins were also identified in hummingbird pollinated plants from two related families and pelargonidin derivatives were detected. In Fouquieria splendens (Fouquieriaceae), the glycosidic pattern was different from that in Polemoniaceae in being 3-galactoside. In Penstemon (Scrophulariaceae) a study of flower anthocyanins was consistent with Straw's hypothesis that the wasp-pollinated P. spectabilis originated by hybridization between the hummingbird-pollinated P. centranthifolius and the bee-pollinated P. grinnellii.  相似文献

In this paper, a survey of our studies on almond polyphenols including their chemical characterization and further bioavailability in humans is reported. Combination of analytical techniques (LC-DAD/fluorescence, LC/ESI-MS and MALDI-TOF-MS) allowed us, for the first time, the identification of A- and B-type procyanidin, propelargonidin and prodelphinidin polymers in almond skins. Glucuronide, O-methyl glucuronide, sulfate and O-methyl sulfate derivatives of (epi)catechin, as well as the glucuronide conjugates of naringenin and isorhamnetin, and sulfate conjugates of isorhamnetin, together with conjugates of hydroxyphenylvalerolactones were detected in plasma and urine samples after the intake of almond skin polyphenols. In addition, numerous microbial-derived metabolites, including hydroxyphenylpropionic, hydroxyphenylacetic, hydroxycinnamic, hydroxybenzoic and hydroxyhippuric acids were also identified. Depending of the type of metabolite, maximum urinary excretion was attained at different time in comparison to the control group in the course of the 24-h period of urine excretion, allowing us to establish the onset of microbial metabolism.  相似文献

Tannins, polyphenolic compounds found in plants, are known to complex with proteins of feed and rumen bacteria. This group of substances has the potential to reduce methane production either with or without negative effects on digestibility and microbial yield. In the first step of this study, 10 tannin-rich extracts from chestnut, mimosa, myrabolan, quebracho, sumach, tara, valonea, oak, cocoa and grape seed, and four rapeseed tannin monomers (pelargonidin, catechin, cyanidin and sinapinic acid) were used in a series of in vitro trials using the Hohenheim gas test, with grass silage as substrate. The objective was to screen the potential of various tannin-rich extracts to reduce methane production without a significant effect on total gas production (GP). Supplementation with pelargonidin and cyanidin did not reduce methane production; however, catechin and sinapinic acid reduced methane production without altering GP. All tannin-rich extracts, except for tara extract, significantly reduced methane production by 8% to 28% without altering GP. On the basis of these results, five tannin-rich extracts were selected and further investigated in a second step using a Rusitec system. Each tannin-rich extract (1.5 g) was supplemented to grass silage (15 g). In this experiment, nutrient degradation, microbial protein synthesis and volatile fatty acid production were used as additional response criteria. Chestnut extract caused the greatest reduction in methane production followed by valonea, grape seed and sumach, whereas myrabolan extract did not reduce methane production. Whereas chestnut extract reduced acetate production by 19%, supplementation with grape seed or myrabolan extract increased acetate production. However, degradation of fibre fractions was reduced in all tannin treatments. Degradation of dry matter and organic matter was also reduced by tannin supplementation, and no differences were found between the tannin-rich extracts. CP degradation and ammonia-N accumulation in the Rusitec were reduced by tannin treatment. The amount and efficiency of microbial protein synthesis were not significantly affected by tannin supplementation. The results of this study indicated that some tannin-rich extracts are able to reduce methane production without altering microbial protein synthesis. We hypothesized that chestnut and valonea extract have the greatest potential to reduce methane production without negative side effects.  相似文献

Nine taxa of Corydalis were surveyed for their floral anthocyanins. Five cyanidin glycosides: cyanidin 3-glucoside, cyanidin 3-sambubioside, cyanidin 3-rutinoside, cyanidin 3-(2G-xylosylrutinoside) and cyanidin 3-(2G-xylosylrutinoside)-7-glucoside were isolated from these taxa and identified by chemical and spectroscopic techniques. A novel anthocyanin was found in the flowers of Corydalis elata and Corydalis flexuosa cultivars, and identified to be cyanidin 3-(2G-xylosylrutinoside)-7-glucoside. Two anthocyanins, cyanidin 3-sambubioside and cyanidin 3-(2G-xylosylrutinoside), were also found for the first time in Corydalis flowers. Furthermore, the major anthocyanin constituent of the flowers was cyanidin 3-sambubioside in the outer petals of Corydalis ambigua and Corydalis lineariloba, and cyanidin 3-rutinoside in those of Corydalis decumbens, Corydalis curvicalcarata and Corydalis speciosa. Similarly, Corydalis incisa contained cyanidin 3-(2G-xylosylrutinoside), and C. flexuosa ‘China Blue’ and ‘Blue Panda’, and C. elata contained the most complex structural pigment, cyanidin 3-(2G-xylosylrutinoside)-7-glucoside, as their dominant anthocyanin in their outer petals. According to the results of anthocyanin analyses, these nine plants were classified into four groups: groups A (three taxa), B (two taxa), C (one taxa) and D (three taxa). On the other hand, the anthocyanin constituent of their inner petals was composed of cyanidin 3-rutinoside as only one dominant anthocyanin.  相似文献

3-Glucosides, 3-galactosides and 3-arabinosides of cyanidin, delphinidin, malvidin, peonidin and pelargonidin have been identified as major floral pigments in Erica (Ericaceae). Unidentified 3-biosides are present as minor pigments in some species. A comparison is made with floral anthocyanins occurring in the related family Epacridaceae.  相似文献

Three cyanidin glycosides have been identified in the black carrot: the known 3-lathyroside and two new pigments, a 3-xylosylglucosylgalactoside and its ferulyl derivative. The same pigments, together with the sinapyl derivative of the triglycoside, occur variously in other tissues of Daucus carota. Ferulyl and sinapyl derivatives of cyanidin 3-glucosylgalactoside occur exceptionally in stem of one subspecies, maritimus. One or other of the same pigments have been found to occur variously in 20 of 22 other umbellifer species surveyed. Both ferulyl and sinapyl derivatives occur in stem of Conium maculatum and Foeniculum vulgare. A further novel acylated pigment based on p-coumaric acid was found in wild celery, Apiurn graveolens. The systematic significance of these various findings is discussed.  相似文献

The hydrolysis of proanthocyanidins to anthocyanidins in n-BuOH-HCl (95:5) has been shown to be an autoxidation, the yield of anthocyanidin being critically dependent on trace metal-ion impurities. Reproducible yields of anthocyanidin may be achieved if iron (III) salts are added to the reaction medium, and a standard method of analysis of proanthocyanidins based on use of an n-BuOH-HCl-FeIII mixture is given. The ratio of absorbance maxima of the cyanidin (550 nm) produced to that near 280 nm for the original procyanidin polymer solution was ~ 3.5.  相似文献

The anthocyanin content of 23 grass species (Poaceae) belonging to five subfamilies has been determined. Altogether 11 anthocyanins were identified; the 3-(6″-malonylglucosides) and 3-glucosides of cyanidin, peonidin and delphinidin, the 3-(3″,6″-dimalonylglucoside), 3-(6″-rhamnosylglucoside) and 3-(6″-glucosylglucoside) of cyanidin, in addition to peonidin 3-(dimalonylglucoside) and delphinidin 3-(6″-rhamnosylglucoside). Anthocyanins acylated with one and/or two malonic acid moieties dominated the anthocyanin profiles of all the species in the subfamilies Pooideae and Panicoideae. On the other hand, the 3-glucoside and 3-rutinoside of cyanidin were the major anthocyanins in Sinarundinaria murielae (subfamily Bambusoideae) and Molinia caerulea (subfamily Arundinoideae), while the 3-glucosides of cyanidin and peonidin were the principal anthocyanins in rice, Oryza sativum (subfamily Oryzoideae). Pelargonidin derivatives and free anthocyanidins have previously been reported to occur in several Poaceae species, however, not identified in any of the species included in this survey.  相似文献
