Colony infestation by the parasitic mite, Varroa destructor is one of the most serious problems for beekeeping worldwide. In order to reproduce varroa females, enter worker or drone brood shortly before the cell is sealed. To test the hypothesis that, due to the preference of mites to invade drone brood to reproduce, a high proportion of the mite reproduction should occur in drone cells, a comparative study of mite reproductive rate in worker and drone brood of Africanized honey bees (AHB) was done for 370 mites. After determining the number, developmental stage and sex of the offspring in worker cells, the foundress female mite was immediately transferred into an uninfested drone cell. Mite fertility in single infested worker and drone brood cells was 76.5 and 79.3%, respectively. There was no difference between the groups (X 2 = 0.78, P = 0.37). However, one of the most significant differences in mite reproduction was the higher percentage of mites producing viable offspring (cells that contain one live adult male and at least one adult female mite) in drone cells (38.1%) compared to worker cells (13.8%) (X 2 = 55.4, P < 0.01). Furthermore, a high level of immature offspring occurred in worker cells and not in drone cells (X 2 = 69, P < 0.01). Although no differences were found in the percentage of non-reproducing mites, more than 74% (n = 85) of the mites that did not reproduce in worker brood, produced offspring when they were transferred to drone brood.  相似文献

The effect of body size, as measured by the head width, of the female Bactrocera sp. Malaysian A (kept separately in sexual pairs) on the demographic parameters was investigated in the laboratory under ambient conditions of 28–30°C, 78–85% RH and natural photoperiod. Body size was shown to influence significantly all the demographic parameters. The expectation of life of females at eclosion from pupae was respectively for head widths of 1.6, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0 and 2.1 mm: 76.2, 73.4, 73.8, 102.4 and 115.2 days. The mean number of eggs laid per female in its life time was respectively: 86.4±48.7, 181.8±56.1, 229.7±72.6, 364.3±69.4 and 477.5±109.3 which was significantly different from one another (F=3.73,P<0.05) especially the two smaller sizes from the two larger sizes. The regression line for total eggs laid (Y) against head width (X) was Y=785.2X−1208.7 (R2=0.35,P<0.001). The net reproductive rate (R0) was respectively 15.8, 34.0, 43.5, 66.9 and 88.8 eggs, while the intrinsic rate of increase (r) was respectivley 0.0435, 0.0538, 0.0670, 0.0665 and 0.0711. The results confirm that for mass rearing purposes, larger females which produce more offspring are to be preferred.  相似文献

Summary Environmental size, as measured by cross-sectional area of the inhabited streams, and population density of Oxytrema proxima are related by the power function Y=8.074X -0.584, where Y=population density and X=cross-sectional area of the stream. Relationships were also found between maximum size and biomass and cross-sectional area, but maximum size and biomass were more closely related to population density by the equations Y=8.832X -0.064 (Y=maximum individual size, X=density) and Y=6.730X 0.459 (Y=biomass (total live weight), X=density). This is interpreted as evidence that environment size acts directly on density, which in turn produces effects on maximum size, total live weight, and to a lesser extent mean size. The inverse relationship between population size and environment has not been previously reported. It is clear that in this case this distribution and abundance of O. proxima are closely related, and that this can be so when populations disperse extremely poorly as well as extremely well. This must mean that dispersal is secondary in importance to population stability as an influence on distribution and abundance.Part of the Ph.D. dissertation of the senior author. The research was undertaken to develop a successful nonsurgical procedure for artificially inseminating ferrets. A fiberoptic endoscope used in conjunction with a specially designed speculum and catheter permitted cervical catheterization and intrauterine insemination. Sperm were collected from the cauda epididymides of 10 discarded breeder males; the number of sperm in diluted samples used for insemination ranged from 4.4–13.6 × 106/100 μl with progressive motility of sperm ranging from 40 to 60%. Sperm collected from each male were diluted with an egg-yolk extender (TEST) and used to inseminate 8–12 females, with deposition of sperm intravaginally or transcervically into the uterine body 0 or 24 hr after an ovulatory injection of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The vaginal inseminations were used as a control, and no pregnancies resulted after insemination of 26 females. Intrauterine inseminations resulted in 4/24 (17%) of the ferrets pregnant when hCG administration was coincident with insemination, and 19/24 (79%) of the ferrets were pregnant when inseminations were done 24 hr after hCG administration. All inseminated females were euthanized on day 20 after insemination to count fetuses. The mean number of fetuses was 3.1 (range, 1–8). The number (millions) of motile sperm inseminated (X) had a significant effect on the percentage of fetuses (Y). Regression analysis indicated a linear relationship between the two variables, with an R2 value of 0.99 and a line of best fit described by the equation Y = 0.029 + 0.034 X. This paper is the first report of transcervical artificial insemination in the domestic ferret (Mustela putorius furo). 叶面积指数(LAI)是评价森林的生长、结构及众多服务功能的重要参数,受坡面上环境条件变化影响而有坡面变化与尺度效应,对此需要深入理解和精细刻画。在六盘山半湿润区香水河小流域选择了33年生华北落叶松人工林的一个斜坡长480.6m、水平长398.2m的东南坡向的典型坡面,在整个坡面上建立了宽30 m的调查样带,均匀分为空间连续的16个样地,在2014年生长季中期测定了林冠层LAI,并分析其坡面变化规律。结果表明:林冠层LAI存在明显的坡面差异,其坡面平均值为3.11,变化在2.66—3.49,变幅为0.83,变异系数为0.09;LAI总体上随着从坡顶向下的坡长增加呈波动性增大趋势,在坡面中部(水平坡长188.45 m时)达到最大,之后稍微减小。森林冠层LAI存在着坡面空间尺度效应,即冠层LAI的顺坡滑动平均值(Y_1)随水平坡长(X,m)增加而逐渐增大,平均每100 m升高0.12,其回归关系式为:Y_1=-2×10~(-8)X~3+8×10~(-6)X~2+5×10~(-4)X+2.6523,(R~2=0.99);各样地LAI与整个坡面平均值的比值(Y_2,小数)随水平坡长(X_1,m)增加呈现为波动性的非线性变化,其回归关系式为:Y_2=-9×10~(-9)X_1~3+2×10~(-6)X_1~2+1×10~(-3)X1+0.829,(R~2=0.78),可基于此式将特定坡位样地的实测LAI推算整个坡面的估计值。造成研究坡面上LAI坡位变化的主要原因是不同坡位(海拔)样地的气温与土壤含水量的差异。  相似文献

Queen‐worker dimorphism, worker polymorphism and worker behavior in the Oriental amblyoponine ant Myopopone castanea were studied. Queen body size was large (head width, 3.0 mm) with 24 to 32 ovarioles while workers showed a remarkable size variation in both body size (head width 1.48 to 2.18 mm) and ovariole number (6 to 22). Both head width and abdomen width showed allometric growth against thorax width. Workers performed larval hemolymph feeding as was described for Amblyopone silvestrii queens.  相似文献

Abstract Instar-specific data on head length and body length of Hyalella azteca was obtained from live specimens reared individually at 23 ± 1 °C under a 14L:10D photoperiod and with food ad lib. Both head length and body length were strong predictors of instar number through instars 1 – 10. The relationship between instar number and head length was linear (head length [m] = 104.28 + 61.05[instar]; r 2=0.98, P<0.001), whereas that between instar and body length was not (body length [m] = 1339.28 + 55.82[instar]2; r 2 = 0.97 , P< 0.001). Head length measurements were easier to obtain and were more accurate than body measurements. Both measurements can be obtained without injury to the animal, permitting repeated observations on the same individual.  相似文献

The growth of the follicle and oocyte in the Indian gerbil (Tatera indica) was a continuous process. The relationship between follicle and oocyte or its nucleus was log linear, represented by the equation log Y =a +b logX.A linear relationship (Y =a +bX)existed between the oocyte and its nucleus. The number of stages I and II follicles varied significantly during the oestrous cycle. Maximum percentage of stage I follicles was observed during oestrus and metoestrus, while stage II follicles were abundant during dioestrus, metoestrus and pro-oestrus. These follicles were significantly more in number than other types of the follicles. The occurrence of comparatively larger follicles during pro-oestrus and the presence of newly formed corpora lutea at oestrus, indicated ovulation in the early oestrus.  相似文献

Studies of the coconut mite, Aceria guerreronis, often require accurate assessment of the population density on individual infested coconuts. Here an efficient and accurate method was developed to estimate its population density on an infested coconut. The coconut mites were removed by washing the bracts and surface of an infested coconut with 30 ml of a detergent solution. Shaking the wash for 5 s allowed the mites to distribute uniformly. The number of mites in the first 1 ml of the first wash (X) yielded a very accurate predictor of the total number of mites on a coconut (Y): Y = 30.1X (R2 = 0.99; p <0.0001), also confirming that the wash was indeed homogeneous. The advantages and disadvantages of this method are discussed.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to systematically obtain a model of factors that would yield an optimized self-nanoemulsified capsule dosage form (SNCDF) of a highly lipophilic model compound, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ). Independent variables such as amount of R-(+)-limonene (X 1), surfactant (X 2), and cosurfactant (X 3), were optimized using a 3-factor, 3-level Box-Behnken statistical design. The dependent variables selected were cumulative percentage of drug released after 5 minutes (Y 1) with constraints on drug release in 15 minutes (Y 2), turbidity (Y 3), particle size (Y 4), and zeta potential (Y 5). A mathematical relationship obtained,Y 1=78.503+6.058X 1 +13.738X 2+5.986X 3−25.831X 1 2 +9.12X 1X2−26.03X 1X3−38.67X 2 2 +11.02X 2X3−15.55X 3 3 (r 2=0.97), explained the main and quadratic effects, and the interaction of factors that affected the drug release. Response surface methodology (RSM) predicted the levels of factorsX 1,X 2, andX 3 (0.0344, 0.216, and 0.240, respectively), for a maximized response ofY 1 with constraints of >90% release onY 2. The observed and predicted values ofY 1 were in close agreement. In conclusion, the Box-Behnken experimental design allowed us to obtain SNCDF with rapid (>90%) drug release within 5 minutes with desirable properties of low turbidity and particle size.  相似文献

A simple, specific, and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for the determination of riboflavin directly in urine samples using a fixed-wave-length spectrofluorometer is described. Centrifuged raw urine samples (50 μl) are injected onto a reversed-phase microparticulate C18 column. The eluent is 0.01 M KH2PO4 (pH 5.0)—methanol (65:35). This method is capable of differentiating riboflavin from riboflavin-5-phosphate, non-riboflavin fluorescing components in urine, and photo-degraded riboflavin. The method shows good reproducibility and is linear to at least 12 μg/ml. The sensitivity of this procedure, at the 95% confidence limit, determined by linear regression analysis, is estimated to be 0.05 μg/ml using peak height and 0.07 μg/ml using peak area. This HPLC method is compared to an automated fluorometric method for riboflavin. The coefficient of linear regression of this comparison is Y = 0.858 + 0.893X, where X is the HPLC method and Y is the fluorometric method.  相似文献

The bias and the mean square error of the estimator for the conditional mean of Y1 are given. Bees are mostly active during the daytime, but nocturnality has been reported in some bee families. We studied temporal flight activity in three species of carpenter bees (genus Xylocopa) in relation to light intensities. X. leucothorax is diurnal, X. tenuiscapa is largely diurnal being only occasionally crepuscular, while X. tranquebarica is truly nocturnal. Occasional forays into dim light by X. tenuiscapa are likely to be due to the availability of richly rewarding Heterophragma quadriloculare (Bignoniaceae) flowers, which open at night. X. tranquebarica can fly even during the moonless parts of nights when light intensities were lower than 10−5 cd m−2, which makes this species the only truly nocturnal bee known so far. Other known dim-light species fly during crepuscular or moonlit periods. We compare eye and body sizes with other known diurnal and dim-light bees. We conclude that while extremely large ocellar diameters, large eye size:body size ratio, large number of ommatidia and large ommatidial diameters are all adaptations to dim-light foraging, these alone do not sufficiently explain the flights of X. tranquebarica in extremely dim light. We hypothesise that additional adaptations must confer extreme nocturnality in X. tranquebarica.  相似文献

Modeling of microbial growth using nonmiscible substrate is studied when kinetics of substrate dissolution is rate limiting. When the substrate concentration is low, the growth rate is described by an analytical relation that can be identified as a Contois relationship. If the substrate concentration is greater than a critical value Scrit, the potentially useful hydrocarbon S* concentration is described by S* = Scrit/(1 + Scrit/S). A relationship was found between Scrit and the biomass concentration X. When X increased, Scrit decreased. The cell growth rate is related to a relation μ = μm[A(X/Scrit)(1 + Scrit/S) + 1]?1. This model describes the evolution of the growth rate when exponential or linear growth occurs, which is related to physico-chemical properties and hydrodynamic fermentation conditions. Experimental data to support the model are presented.  相似文献

The sex chromosomes segregate precociously in prometaphase I of male meiosis, without prior synapsis or any physical connection, in 4 species of American mantispids (Neuroptera: Mantispidae). Segregational movements are interpolar, and are implemented through chromosomal fibers. Univalent autosomes, present from diakinesis on in several species, are capable of a similar distance segregation in prometaphase. The sex chromosomes are XX —XY , as is characteristic of the Order, with the exception of Entanoneura phthisica in which both elements are compound —X1X2X3Y1Y2Y3in the male, and X1X1X2X2X3X3 in the female. In tetraploid sectors of gonial origin in testes of this species no sex bivalents are formed; a distance segregation of 6 sex univalents to each pole is effected, but — as observed in the one individually identifiable pair — segregation separates complete homologues, Y1 from Y1, X1 from X1, etc. In all species the male meiotic spindle is formed by the collocation of individual chromosomal spindle units within which bivalents become deformed; the timing and degree of deformation vary with the species. In karyotype the American species conform to a common pattern with the known Japanese and European species; diploid numbers range only from 18 to 22, and each complement carries the family insigné of one pair of disproportionately large autosomes in a set of small and rather uniformly sized chromosomes.  相似文献

This study investigated the utility of a 23 factorial design and optimization process for polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles containing itraconazole with 5 replicates at the center of the design. Nanoparticles were prepared by solvent displacement technique with PLGAX 1 (10, 100 mg/mL), benzyl benzoateX 2 (5, 20 μg/mL), and itraconazoleX 3 (200, 1800 μg/mL). Particle size (Y 1), the amount of itraconazole entrapped in the nanoparticles (Y 2), and encapsulation efficiency (Y 3) were used as responses. A validated statistical model having significant coefficient figures (P<.001) for the particle size (Y 1), the amount of itraconazole entrapped in the nanoparticles (Y 2), and encapsulation efficiency (Y 3) as function of the PLGA (X 1), benzyl benzoate (X 2), and itraconazole (X 3) were developed: Y1=373.75+66.54X1+52.09X2+105.06X3−4.73X1X2+46.30X1X3; Y2=472.93+73.45X1+ 169.06X2+333.03X3+62.40X1X3+141.49X2X3; Y3= 57.36+6.53X1+15.52X2−12.59X3+1.01X1X3+ 1.73X2X3.X 1,X 2, andX 3 had a significant effect (P<.001) onY 1,Y 2, andY 3. The particle size, the amount of itraconazole entrapped in the nanoparticles, and the encapsulation efficiency of the 4 formulas were in agreement with the predictions obtained from the models (P<.05). An overlay plot for the 3 responses shows the boundary in whichY 1 shows the boundary in which a number of combinations of concentration of PLGA, benzyl benzoate, and itraconazole will result in a satisfactory process. Using the desirability approach with the same constraints, the solution composition having the highest overall desirability (D=0.769) was 10 mg/mL of PLGA, 16.94 μg/mL of benzyl benzoate, and 1001.01 μg/mL of itraconazole. This approach allowed the selection of the optimum formulation ingredients for PLGA nanoparticles containing itraconazole of 500 μg/mL.  相似文献

Data were obtained on the population structure and reproduction of Atlantoscia floridana, one of the most common species of terrestrial isopods in the restinga (coastal dune) forests of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. During a 19-month period, a total of 7833 individuals were sampled: 2792 males, 3400 females and 1691 mancas. There was a significant difference between the size of both males and females collected in 2000 and 2001: the mean size was smaller in the second year when individuals in the larger size classes were lacking. Population density varied with season. The minimum population was 131 ind per m2 individuals, the maximum 1040 ind per m2 and the mean 450  per m2. While the overall sex ratio was clearly female biased, the operational sex ratio favored males, and showed no changes with season. Because both ovigerous and post-ovigerous females were present throughout the year, reproduction is considered continuous; however, reproduction peaked during autumn and spring. Ovigerous females were measured (CW = cephalothorax width) and the number of eggs was counted. Fecundity (F) varied from 5 to 23 eggs ( = 11.18 ± 4) per female, and was expressed by the regression F = –18.48 + 22.59 CW, with the female cephalothorax width varying from 1.04 to 1.68 mm. Marsupial mortality was only 0.9%. Egg production was 588 eggs per m2 in spring and 660 eggs per m2 in autumn. Recruitment occurred in all months, and eggs, embryos and marsupial mancas were also present year-round. A. floridana is the dominant species of terrestrial isopod in the study area. Its most remarkable characteristic is its high reproductive investment.  相似文献

Abstract

The solution distribution of combinations of the sugar ring puckering domains, C2′endo(S), C3′endo(N), and C4′-C5′ rotamers, +sc(g+), ap(t), -sc(g?), in α and β-anomers in ribo- and deoxyribo- pyrimidine nucleic acid components can be determined from vicinal coupling constants (M. Remin, J. Biomol. Str. Dyn. 2, 211 (1984). A general correlation pattern with a conformational constant λ, reflecting an intrinsic physical property of the sugar - side chain ensemble, is developed and expressed in terms of four principles:

I) The +sc rotamer contributes to the C3′endo population to a higher extent (1 - Yt) than to C2′endo,(l-Yt-Yg-/Xs).

II) The ap rotamer contributes to both C2′endo and C3′endo populations to the same extent (Yt).

III) The—sc rotamer contributes only to the C2′endo population, (Yg-/Xs).

IV) The molar fractions Xs, Yt and Yg- of conformations C2′endo, ap and—sc, respectively, are strongly correlated, λ = (Yg-/Xs)/Yt ≈ 0.5, and therefore Yt is a basic variable parameter which determines all others in the correlation pattern.

In α-anomers, regardless of the type and conformation of the sugar ring and base, the molar fraction Yt = 0.37 ± 0.02. This finding means that different α-anomers show one correlation pattern free of the influence of the base. In β-anomers, structure and conformation of the base are important factors which modulate (through Yt) the correlation pattern, conserving its fundamental features. Yt is considerably increased by a syn-oriented pyrimidine base, but decreases when the base is anti. The transition from anti to syn orientation of the base is followed by destabilization of (C2′endo, +sc) in favor of (C3′endo, ap). The principles of conformational correlations rationalize a variety of correlations observed in the past.  相似文献

The Myh11‐CreERT2 mouse line (Cre+) has gained increasing application because of its high lineage specificity relative to other Cre drivers targeting smooth muscle cells (SMCs). This Cre allele, however, was initially inserted into the Y chromosome (X/YCre+), which excluded its application in female mice. Our group established a Cre+ colony from male ancestors. Surprisingly, genotype screening identified female carriers that stably transmitted the Cre allele to the following generations. Crossbreeding experiments revealed a pattern of X‐linked inheritance for the transgene (k > 1000), indicating that these female carries acquired the Cre allele through a mechanism of Y to X chromosome translocation. Further characterization demonstrated that in hemizygous X/XCre+ mice Cre activity was restricted to a subset arterial SMCs, with Cre expression in arteries decreased by 50% compared to X/YCre+ mice. This mosaicism, however, diminished in homozygous XCre+/XCre+ mice. In a model of aortic aneurysm induced by a SMC‐specific Tgfbr1 deletion, the homozygous XCre+/XCre+ Cre driver unmasked the aortic phenotype that is otherwise subclinical when driven by the hemizygous X/XCre+ Cre line. In conclusion, the Cre allele carried by this female mouse line is located on the X chromosome and subjected to X‐inactivation. The homozygous XCre+/XCre+ mice produce uniform Cre activity in arterial SMCs.  相似文献
