In the third report of the present series, five species ofCercospora sensu lato described by Japanese mycologists were transferred to the genusPseudocercospora after detailed reexamination. They arePseudocercospora photiniae, P. phrymae, P. stephanandrae, P. vaccini andP. kirishimensis. Pseudocercospora photiniae was retained as an independent species, not regarded as a synonym ofP. eriobotryae.  相似文献

Optical brighteners cansynergistically enhance nucleopolyhedrovirusinfectivity to lepidopteran larvae by blockingthe sloughing of infected primary midgut cellsand inhibiting the formation of the peritrophicmembrane in the hosts. Because of similaritiesin the route of infection, we investigatedwhether optical brighteners would also enhanceinfection with the milky disease bacterium,Paenibacillus popilliae, of Japanesebeetle, Popillia japonica, larvae. Thelarvae were kept in soil mixed with P.popilliae spore preparations and the opticalbrighteners Blankophor BBH, P167, or RKH withperennial ryegrass provided as food. Noenhancing effect of any of the opticalbrighteners on P. popilliae infection wasobserved at a concentration of 0.1% (w/w). Rather, when mixed into the soil at 0.02, 0.1,or 0.5% (w/w) BBH reduced P. popilliaeinfection at the highest rate.  相似文献

Ectomycorrhizal fungi (Paxillus involutus, Suillus grevillei and two unidentified basidiomycetes from excised Sitka spruce mycorrhizas) were isolated from stands of Sitka spruce either in monoculture or in a mixture with Japanese larch in an Irish conifer plantation. The growth of these fungi and their mycorrhizal formation in Sitka spruce and Japanese larch were examined after incubation in modified Melin-Norkrans medium containing either KH2PO4, Ca3(PO4)2 or Fe phytate as the phosphorus (P) source. P. involutus and S. grevillei utilized all three P sources. The unidentified basidiomycetes had limited ability to utilize Fe phytate. Basidiomycete 1 showed poor growth on KH2PO4 whereas growth of basidiomycete 2 was low on Ca3(PO4)2. Pure culture synthesis studies confirmed that P. involutus and the two basidiomycetes formed mycorrhizas with both tree species but S. grevillei was mycorrhizal only on Japanese larch. P. involutus formed more mycorrhizas in both conifers than the other fungi. Following inoculation with each of the four fungi, shoot and root dry mass of both Sitka spruce and Japanese larch seedlings was enhanced compared with uninoculated/nonmycorrhizal controls. On Fe phytate, Paxillus-inoculated Sitka spruce seedlings had the lowest primary root length and on KH2PO4, Suillus-inoculated Japanese larch had the greatest number of short roots. The only differences when Sitka spruce seedlings were grown in either monoculture or in a mixture with Japanese larch mycorrhizal with S. grevillei were primary root length and number of short roots after growth on media containing Fe phytate.  相似文献

Three new species of Hypomyces with KOH-negative subiculi occurring on the Aphyllophorales are described. Hypomyces pseudocorticiicola is characterized by a grayish-yellow to brown subiculum, fusiform ascospores, always with one septum, and its Cladobotryum-anamorph. Hypomyces laeticolor is characterized by a bright-colored subiculum, small apiculi on the ascospores, and well-developed verticillate conidiogenous cells. Hypomyces penicillatus forms a Trichothecium-like anamorph with well-developed verticils of conidiogenous cells.  相似文献

Colony usurpations by newly mated queens of Polyergus samurai were observed under artificial conditions. Newly mated queens of P. samurai were introduced into three kinds of Formica japonica host colonies: queenright, queenless (artificially orphaned), and workerless (only a queen remaining) colonies. In the queenright condition, the P. samurai queen intruded into the host nest and killed the host queen, and was subsequently adopted by the host workers. In all queenright and queenless host colonies, seven of 13 queens of P. samurai succeeded in colony usurpation, although the starting time of grooming, a nestmate behavior, by host workers in the queenright condition occurred earlier than in the queenless condition. In workerless conditions, four of five P. samurai queens ignored the F. japonica queen. The results suggest that while host-queen killing is not necessary, it is important to win acceptance by host workers.  相似文献

Four fungi belonging to the genus Pseudocercospora were collected from Ohshima Island, which has commonly been called Izu-ohshima, Tokyo. Among them, two on Helwingia japonica and on Stachyurus praecox var. matsuzakii are recognized as new species, and named P. izuohshimensis and P. hachijokibushi, respectively. Styrax japonica var. jippei-kawamurae was newly added to the host list of P. fukuokaensis. Presence of P. myrticola in Japan was reconfirmed in examining a fresh diseased material on Myrtus communis.  相似文献

The influences of thinning (50% of standing density) and liming (Ca+Mg, 2 Mg ha−1) on soil chemical properties were investigated for 2 years (2001, 2002) in 40-year-old pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill.) and 44-year-old Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Gord.) plantations established on similar soils. In general, soil properties varied significantly among plantations and treatments. For both plantations, thinning significantly increased soil organic C (SOC) concentrations whereas there were no significant changes in soil pH and Ca and Mg concentrations. In addition, thinning increased total soil N and Na concentrations for the pitch pine plantation and available P concentration for the Japanese larch plantation in the second year after the treatment. Liming did not affect soil chemical characteristics for the pitch pine plantation except for Na concentration. However, for the Japanese larch plantation, liming significantly increased soil pH and K, Ca and Mg concentrations and decreased SOC and total soil N concentrations. For both plantations, soil Al concentration did not change after thinning and liming and decreased exponentially with increased pH values. The increases in SOC and total soil N concentrations after thinning were possibly due to increases in decomposition of organic matter and root death. Although differences were not statistically significant, soil available P concentration tended to increase at early stages of liming for both plantations. These results suggested that thinning and liming seemed to regulate soil chemical properties for pitch pine and Japanese larch plantations established on similar soils.  相似文献

A phylogeny of the lichen family Porinaceae using mitochondrial SSU rDNA sequences is presented, with special focus on foliicolous taxa. Fifty specimens of 28 mostly tropical species, representing eight species groups of Porina as well as the genus Trichothelium, were analysed together with species of other members of Ostropomycetidae, and using Agyriaceae as outgroup. We performed the phylogenetic analyses with a Bayesian approach and under the criterion of maximum parsimony. Four main clades can be distinguished: the P. nitidula-group s. lat. (including Trichothelium, P. papillifera and P. rubescens), the Porina epiphylla-group s. lat. (including the P. radiata-, the P. nucula-, the P. imitatrix- and the P. epiphylla-group s. str.) and two clades of the P. rufula-group. The genus Porina as understood by all recent concepts is paraphyletic, and Trichothelium is nested within the Porina nitidula-group. The non-setose P. repanda forms a monophyletic clade with Trichothelium. The tree does not support a monophyletic origin of substrate preferences or photobiont selection. Species-specific associations with morphologically different trentepohlioid photobionts mapped on the tree suggest that closely related mycobiont species switch between different types of algae.  相似文献

Six ophiostomatoid fungi, i.e.,Ceratocystiopsis minuta, Ceratocystis laricicola, Ophiostoma brunneo-ciliatum, O. laricis, O. piceae andOphiostoma sp., were isolated from the galleries ofIps cembrae on Japanese Iarch (Larix kaempferi) logs in central Honshu, Japan. Japanese larch trees approximately 30 yr old were inoculated with all six fungi.Ceratocystis laricicola produced the largest lesions on the inner bark around the inoculation point and the largest dry zone in the sapwood. Furthermore,C. laricicola was the only fungus associated withI. cembrae that had the ability to kill Japanese larch, death occurring in 30-yr-old trees within 3.5 mo after inoculation.  相似文献

The pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is the causative agent of pine wilt of Pinus thunbergii and P. densiflora in Japan. The nematode is vectored by cerambycid beetles of the genus Monochamus. It is inferred to have been introduced from North America early in the 1900s and then to have distributed in China, Korea, and Taiwan. Intensive and/or long-term studies of pine wilt systems have elucidated the pattern and mechanism of the nematode’s spread within a pine stand, dispersal of vector beetles, and spread pattern of pine wilt within a prefecture. The modeling of nematode spread over pine stands, which involves beetle reproduction within a pine stand, has been developing and should elucidate the factors influencing the rate at which the nematode range expands. In this review, we summarize the biologies of the nematode, beetle, and tree, and then characterize the spread of the nematode within a pine stand, locally over pine stands, and regionally over unit administrative districts. Local and regional spreading of the nematode is related primarily to long-distance dispersal by insect vectors and to the artificial transportation of pine logs infested with the nematode and its vector, respectively.  相似文献

Biocontrol of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica was studied on lentil using plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) namely Pseudomonas putida, P. alcaligenes, Paenibacillus polymyxa and Bacillus pumilus and root nodule bacterium Rhizobium sp. Pseudomonas putida caused greater inhibitory effect on the hatching and penetration of M. javanica followed by P. alcaligenes, P. polymyxa and B. pumilus. Inoculation of any PGPR species alone or together with Rhizobium increased plant growth both in M. javanica-inoculated and -uninoculated plants. Inoculation of Rhizobum caused greater increase in plant growth than caused by any species of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in nematode-inoculated plants. Among PGPR, P. putida caused greater increase in plant growth and higher reduction in galling and nematode multiplication followed by P. alcaligenes, P. polymyxa and B. pumilus. Combined use of Rhizobium with any species of PGPR caused higher reduction in galling and nematode multiplication than their individual inoculation. Use of Rhizobium plus P. putida caused maximum reduction in galling and nematode multiplication followed by Rhizobium plus P. alcaligens. Pseudomonas putida caused greater root colonization and siderophore production followed by P. alcaligenes, P. polymyxa and B. pumilus. Analysis of the protein bands of these four species by SDS-PAGE revealed that P. putida had a different protein band profile compared to the protein profiles of P. alcaligenes, P. polymyxa and B. pumilus. However, the protein profiles of P. acaligenes, P. polymyxa and B. pumilus were similar.  相似文献

Threeline grunt (Parapristipoma trilineatum) distributes around the southwestern coast of Japan and the east coast of China. The Chinese P. trilineatum was imported by Japan as an aquacultural seed because of its rapid growth compared with that of the Japanese P. trilineatum. The Japanese P. trilineatum differs from the Chinese P. trilineatum in some quantitative traits, and it has been suggested that these two P. trilineatum populations are genetically different. In order to identify the population structures around Japan and China, 5 local populations of the Japanese P. trilineatum and 2 local populations of the Chinese P. trilineatum were analyzed using 4 microsatellite DNA markers. Significant differences were detected between Japanese and Chinese P. trilineatum and among samples of Chinese P. trilineatum; however, among the samples of Japanese P. trilineatum, no significant differences were detected. These results suggest that care must be taken to prevent the escape of the Chinese P. trilineatum from culture cages around the Japanese coast, in order to preserve the genetically different population structures of Japanese and Chinese P. trilineatum.  相似文献

A new taxonomic treatment is proposed for thePottia starckeana species complex. The peristome development is not considered to be a useful feature to separate the taxa. On the basis of spore morphology only two species are accepted:P. starckeana, with spores wavy in outline, andP. davalliana, with variously-shaped and developed processes on the spores.Pottia starckeana var.brachyoda is reduced to synonymy withP. starckeana; P. conica andP. commutata are treated as synonyms ofP. davalliana. The speciesP. mutica, P. affinis, P. salina, P. microphylla, P. texana, andP. arizonica (included var.mucronulata) are considered taxa of doubtful affinity, as they have spore features intermediate between the two spore types established for the group. The identity ofP. appertii andP. recurvifolia has not been elucidated because the type material has been destroyed.  相似文献

Prunus dulcis, the almond, is a predominantly self-incompatible (SI) species with a gametophytic self-incompatibility system mediated by S-RNases. The economically important allele S f , which results in self-compatibility in P. dulcis, is said to have arisen by introgression from Prunus webbii in the Italian region of Apulia. We investigated the range of self-(in)compatibility alleles in Apulian material of the two species. About 23 cultivars of P. dulcis (14 self-compatible (SC) and nine SI) and 33 accessions of P. webbii (16 SC, two SI and 15 initially of unknown status), all from Apulia, were analysed using PCR of genomic DNA to amplify S-RNase alleles and, in most cases, IEF and staining of stylar protein extracts to detect S-RNase activity. Some amplification products were cloned and sequenced. The allele S f was present in nearly all the SC cultivars of P. dulcis but, surprisingly, was absent from nearly all SC accessions of P. webbii. And of particular interest was the presence in many SI cultivars of P. dulcis of a new active allele, labelled S 30 , the sequence of which showed it to be the wild-type of S f so that S f can be regarded as a stylar part mutant S 30 °. These findings indicate S f may have arisen within P. dulcis, by mutation. One SC cultivar of P. dulcis, ‘Patalina’, had a new self-compatibility allele lacking RNase activity, S n5 , which could be useful in breeding programmes. In the accessions of P. webbii, some of which were known to be SC, three new alleles were found which lacked RNase activity but had normal DNA sequences.  相似文献

Pollen grains ofParis, Medeola, andScoliopus have been examined with light, scanning electron, and transmission electron microscopies.P. quadrifolia L.,P. verticillata Bieb.,P. delavayi Franch. andP. polyphylla Smith have monosulcate pollen characterized by psilate, foveolate or reticulate exine sculpture. In contrast to the former species,P. japonica (Fr. et Sav.) Franch. andP. tetraphylla A. Gray have monosulcate pollen with gemmate (rarely rugulate) exine.Medeola has monosulcate pollen with reticulate exine that is distinct from that ofParis. Scoliopus has monosulcate pollen characterized by a peculiar reticulate exine pattern. The palynological evidence suggests thatParis andTrillium are closely related to each other, andMedeola andScoliopus should be separated fromParis andTrillium.  相似文献
