Muscle activities of the lower limb during level and uphill running   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1  
This study aimed to compare the muscle activities of the lower limb during overground level running (LR) and uphill running (UR) by using a musculoskeletal model. Six male distance runners ran at three running speeds (slow: 3.3 m/s; medium: 4.2 m/s; and high: 5.0 m/s) on a level runway and a slope of 9.1% grade in which force platforms were mounted. A musculoskeletal leg model and optimization were used to estimate the muscle activation and muscle torque from the joint torque of the lower limb calculated by the inverse dynamics approach. At high speed, the activation and muscle torque of the muscle groups surrounding the hip joints, such as the hamstrings and iliopsoas, during the recovery phase were significantly greater during UR than during LR. At all the running speeds, the knee extension torque by the vasti during the support phase was significantly smaller during UR. Further, the hip flexion and knee extension torques by the rectus femoris during UR were significantly greater than those during LR at all the speeds; this would play a role in compensating for the decrease in the knee extension torque by the vasti and in maintaining the trunk in a forward-leaning position. These results revealed that the activation and muscle torque of the hip extensors and flexors were augmented during UR at the high speed.  相似文献

Indices of electrically stimulated and maximal voluntary isometric muscle torgue and the phosphate content of myosin phosphorylatable light chains (P light chains) were studied during recovery following a 60-s maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) in 21 human subjects. Analysis of muscle biopsy samples revealed that immediately after the 60-s MVC there were significant decreases in ATP (-15%) and phosphocreatine (-82%), and lactate concentration increased by 17-fold. All indices of muscle torque production were reduced by the 60-s MVC, but the twitch torque and torque at 10 Hz were relatively less reduced compared with the torque at 20 and 50 Hz or a 1-s MVC. Between 3 and 6 min of recovery, twitch torque and torque at 10 Hz stimulation were significantly potentiated, reaching peak values of 125 and 134%, respectively, compared with rest. Phosphate content of the fast and two slow P light chains was significantly increased over rest levels immediately after and 4 min after the 60-s MVC. These results suggest that myosin P light-chain phosphorylation could provide a mechanism to increase human muscle torque under conditions of submaximal contractile element activation following fatigue.  相似文献

Alterations of neuromuscular function after an ultramarathon.   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Neuromuscular fatigue of the knee extensor (KE) and plantar flexor (PF) muscles was characterized after a 65-km ultramarathon race in nine well-trained runners by stimulating the femoral and tibial nerves, respectively. One week before and immediately after the ultramarathon, maximal twitches were elicited from the relaxed KE and PF. Electrically evoked superimposed twitches of the KE were also elicited during maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) to determine maximal voluntary activation. MVC and maximal voluntary activation decreased significantly after the ultramarathon (-30.2 +/- 18.0% and -27.7 +/- 13.0%, respectively; P < 0.001). Surprisingly, peak twitch increased after the ultramarathon from 15.8 +/- 6.3 to 19.7 +/- 3.3 N. m for PF (P < 0.01) and from 131.9 +/- 21.2 to 157.1 +/- 35.9 N for KE (P < 0.05). Also, shorter contraction and half-relaxation times were observed for both muscles. The compound muscle action potentials (M wave) were not significantly altered by the ultramarathon with the exception of the soleus, which showed a slightly higher M-wave amplitude after the running. From these results, it can be concluded that 65 km of running 1) severely depressed the maximal voluntary force capacity mainly because of a decrease in maximal voluntary activation, 2) potentiated the twitch mechanical response, and 3) did not change significantly the M-wave characteristics.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to clarify the acute effect of dynamic stretching exercise on muscular performance during concentric dynamic constant external resistance (DCER, formally called isotonic) muscle actions under various loads. Concentric DCER leg extension power outputs were measured in 12 healthy male students after 2 types of pretreatment. The pretreatments were: (a) dynamic stretching treatment including 2 types of dynamic stretching exercises of leg extensors and the other 2 types of dynamic stretching exercises simulating the leg extension motion (2 sets of 15 times each with 30-second rest periods between sets; total duration: about 8 minutes), and (b) nonstretching treatment by resting for 8 minutes in a sitting position. Loads during measurement of the power output were set to 5, 30, and 60% of the maximum voluntary contractile (MVC) torque with isometric leg extension in each subject. The power output after the dynamic stretching treatment was significantly (p < 0.05) greater than that after the nonstretching treatment under each load (5% MVC: 468.4 +/- 102.6 W vs. 430.1 +/- 73.0 W; 30% MVC: 520.4 +/- 108.5 W vs. 491.0 +/- 93.0 W; 60% MVC: 487.1 +/- 100.6 W vs. 450.8 +/- 83.7 W). The present study demonstrated that dynamic stretching routines, such as dynamic stretching exercise of target muscle groups and dynamic stretching exercise simulating the actual motion pattern, significantly improve power output with concentric DCER muscle actions under various loads. These results suggested that dynamic stretching routines in warm-up protocols enhance power performance because common power activities are carried out by DCER muscle actions under various loads.  相似文献

Fibre conduction velocity and fibre composition in human vastus lateralis   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The relationship between muscle fibre composition and fibre conduction velocity was investigated in 19 male track athletes, 12 sprinters and 7 distance runners, aged 20-24 years, using needle biopsy samples from vastus lateralis. Cross sectional areas of the fast twitch (FT) and slow twitch (ST) fibres were determined by histochemical analysis. The percentage of FT fibre areas ranged from 22.6 to 93.6%. Sprinters had a higher percentage of FT fibres than distance runners. Muscle fibre conduction velocity was measured with a surface electrode array placed along the muscle fibres, and calculated from the time delay between 2 myoelectric signals recorded during a maximal voluntary contraction. The conduction velocity ranged from 4.13 to 5.20 m.s-1. A linear correlation between conduction velocity and the relative area of FT fibres was statistically significant (r = 0.84, p less than 0.01). This correlation indicates that muscle fibre composition can be estimated from muscle fibre conduction velocity measured noninvasively with surface electrodes.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of 3 types of stretching-static, dynamic, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)-on peak muscle power output in women. Concentric knee extension power was measured isokinetically at 60 degrees x s(-1) and 180 degrees x s(-1) in 12 healthy and recreationally active women (mean age +/- SD, 24 +/- 3.3 years). Testing occurred before and after each of 3 different stretching protocols and a control condition in which no stretching was performed. During 4 separate laboratory visits, each subject performed 5 minutes of stationary cycling at 50 W before performing the control condition, static stretching protocol, dynamic stretching protocol, or PNF protocol. Three submaximal warm-up trials preceded 3 maximal knee extensions at each testing velocity. A 2-minute rest was allowed between testing at each velocity. The results of the statistical analysis indicated that none of the stretching protocols caused a decrease in knee extension power. Dynamic stretching produced percentage increases (8.9% at 60 degrees x s(-1) and 6.3% at 180 degrees x s(-1)) in peak knee extension power at both testing velocities that were greater than changes in power after static and PNF stretching. The findings suggest that dynamic stretching may increase acute muscular power to a greater degree than static and PNF stretching. These findings may have important implications for athletes who participate in events that rely on a high level of muscular power.  相似文献

Postactivation potentiation (PAP), a mechanism by which the torque of a muscle twitch is increased following a conditioning contraction, is well documented in muscular physiology, but little is known about its effect on the maximal rate of torque development and functional significance during voluntary movements. The objective of this study was to investigate the PAP effect on the rate of isometric torque development of electrically induced and voluntary contractions. To that purpose, the electromechanical responses of the thumb adductor muscles to a single electrical stimulus (twitch), a train of 15 pulses at 250 Hz (HFT(250)), and during ballistic (i.e., rapid torque development) voluntary contractions at torque levels ranging from 10 to 75% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) were recorded before and after a conditioning 6-s MVC. The results showed that the rate of torque development was significantly (P < 0.001) increased after the conditioning MVC, but the effect was greater for the twitch ( approximately 200%) compared with the HFT(250) ( approximately 17%) or ballistic contractions (range: 9-24%). Although twitch potentiation was maximal immediately after the conditioning MVC, maximal potentiation for HFT(250) and ballistic contractions was delayed to 1 min after the 6-s MVC. Furthermore, the similar degree of potentiation for the rate of isometric torque development between tetanic and voluntary ballistic contractions indicates that PAP is not related to the modality of muscle activation. These observations suggest that PAP may be considered as a mechanism that can influence our contractions during daily tasks and can be utilized to improve muscle performance in explosive sports.  相似文献

Pre-exercise stretching has been widely reported to reduce performance in tasks requiring maximal or near-maximal force or torque. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 3 different pre-exercise stretching routines on running economy. Seven competitive male middle and long-distance runners (mean +/- SD) age: 32.5 +/- 7.7 years; height: 175.0 +/- 8.8 cm; mass: 67.8 +/- 8.6 kg; V(.-)O2max: 66.8 +/- 7.0 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) volunteered to participate in this study. Each participant completed 4 different pre-exercise conditions: (a) a control condition, (b) static stretching, (c) progressive static stretching, and (d) dynamic stretching. Each stretching routine consisted of 2 x 30-second stretches for each of 5 exercises. Dependent variables measured were sit and reach test before and after each pre-exercise routine, running economy (ml x kg(-1) x km(-1)), and steady-state oxygen uptake (ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)), which were measured during the final 3 minutes of a 10-minute run below lactate threshold. All 3 stretching routines resulted in an increase in the range of movement (p = 0.008). There was no change in either running economy (p = 0.915) or steady-state V(.-)O2 (p = 0.943). The lack of change in running economy was most likely because it was assessed after a period of submaximal running, which may have masked any effects from the stretching protocols. Previously reported reductions in performance have been attributed to reduced motor unit activation, presumably IIX. In this study, these motor units were likely not to have been recruited; this may explain the unimpaired performance. This study suggests that pre-exercise stretching has no impact upon running economy or submaximal exercise oxygen cost.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the acute effects of general, specific and combined warm-up (WU) on explosive performance. Healthy male (n = 10) subjects participated in six WU protocols in a crossover randomized study design. Protocols were: passive rest (PR; 15 min of passive rest), running (Run; 5 min of running at 70% of maximum heart rate), stretching (STR; 5 min of static stretching exercise), jumping [Jump; 5 min of jumping exercises – 3x8 countermovement jumps (CMJ) and 3x8 drop jumps from 60 cm (DJ60)], and combined (COM; protocols Run+STR+Jump combined). Immediately before and after each WU, subjects were assessed for explosive concentric-only (i.e. squat jump – SJ), slow stretch-shortening cycle (i.e. CMJ), fast stretch-shortening cycle (i.e. DJ60) and contact time (CT) muscle performance. PR significantly reduced SJ performance (p =0.007). Run increased SJ (p =0.0001) and CMJ (p =0.002). STR increased CMJ (p =0.048). Specific WU (i.e. Jump) increased SJ (p =0.001), CMJ (p =0.028) and DJ60 (p =0.006) performance. COM increased CMJ performance (p =0.006). Jump was superior in SJ performance vs. PR (p =0.001). Jump reduced (p =0.03) CT in DJ60. In conclusion, general, specific and combined WU increase slow stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) muscle performance, but only specific WU increases fast SSC muscle performance. Therefore, to increase fast SSC performance, specific fast SSC muscle actions must be included during the WU.  相似文献

Research suggests that static stretching can negatively influence muscle strength and power and may result in decreased functional performance. The dynamic warm-up (DWU) is a common alternative to static stretching before physical activity, but there is limited research investigating the effects of a DWU. The purpose of this study was to compare the acute effects of a DWU and static stretching warm-up (SWU) on muscle flexibility, strength, and vertical jump using a randomized controlled trial design. Forty-five volunteers were randomly assigned into a control (CON), SWU, or DWU group. All participants rode a stationary bicycle for 5 minutes and completed a 10-minute warm-up protocol. During this protocol, the DWU group performed dynamic stretching and running, the SWU group performed static stretching, and the CON group rested. Dependent variables were measured immediately before and after the warm-up protocol. A digital inclinometer measured flexibility (degrees) for the hamstrings, quadriceps, and hip flexor muscles. An isokinetic dynamometer measured concentric and eccentric peak torque (N·m/kg) for the hamstrings and quadriceps. A force plate was used to measure vertical jump height (meters) and power (watts). In the DWU group, there was a significant increase in hamstring flexibility (pretest: 26.4 ± 13.5°, posttest: 16.9 ± 9.4°; p < .0001) and eccentric quadriceps peak torque (pretest: 2.49 ± 0.83 N·m/kg, posttest: 2.78 ± 0.69 N·m/kg; p = 0.04). The CON and SWU did not significantly affect any flexibility, strength, or vertical jump measures (p > 0.05). The DWU significantly improved eccentric quadriceps strength and hamstrings flexibility, whereas the SWU did not facilitate any positive or negative changes in muscle flexibility, strength, power, or vertical jump. Therefore, the DWU may be a better preactivity warm-up choice than an SWU.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to identify the mechanisms that contribute to the decline in knee extensor (KE) muscles strength after a prolonged running exercise. During the 2 days preceding a 30-km running race [duration 188.7 +/- 27.0 (SD) min] and immediately after the race, maximal percutaneous electrical stimulations (single twitch, 0.5-s tetanus at 20 and 80 Hz) were applied to the femoral nerve of 12 trained runners. Superimposed twitches were also delivered during isometric maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) to determine the level of voluntary activation (%VA). The vastus lateralis electromyogram was recorded. KE MVC decreased from pre- to postexercise (from 188.1 +/- 25.2 to 142.7 +/- 29.7 N x m; P < 0.001) as did %VA (from 98.8 +/- 1.8 to 91.3 +/- 10.7%; P < 0.05). The changes from pre- to postexercise in these two variables were highly correlated (R = 0.88; P < 0.001). The modifications in the mechanical response after the 80-Hz stimulation and M-wave peak-to-peak amplitude were also significant (P < 0.001 and P < 0.05, respectively). It can be concluded that 1) central fatigue, neuromuscular propagation, and muscular factors are involved in the 23.5 +/- 14.9% reduction in MVC after a prolonged running bout at racing pace and 2) runners with the greatest KE strength loss experience large activation deficit.  相似文献

The motor unit twitch torque is modified by sustained contraction, but the association to changes in muscle fiber electrophysiological properties is not fully known. Thus twitch torque, muscle fiber conduction velocity, and action potential properties of single motor units were assessed in 11 subjects following an isometric submaximal contraction of the tibialis anterior muscle until endurance. The volunteers activated a target motor unit at the minimum discharge rate in eight 3-min-long contractions, three before and five after an isometric contraction at 40% of the maximal torque, sustained until endurance. Multichannel surface electromyogram signals and joint torque were averaged with the target motor unit potential as trigger. Discharge rate (mean +/- SE, 6.6 +/- 0.2 pulses/s) and interpulse interval variability (33.3 +/- 7.0%) were not different in the eight contractions. Peak twitch torque and recruitment threshold increased significantly (93 +/- 29 and 12 +/- 5%, P <0.05) in the contraction immediately after the endurance task with respect to the preendurance values (0.94 +/- 0.26 mN.m and 3.7 +/- 0.5% of the maximal torque), whereas time to peak of the twitch torque did not change (74.4 +/- 10.1 ms). Muscle fiber conduction velocity decreased and action potential duration increased in the contraction after the endurance (6.3 +/- 1.8 and 9.8 +/- 1.8%, respectively, P <0.05; preendurance values, 3.9 +/- 0.2 m/s and 11.1 +/- 0.8 ms), whereas the surface potential peak-to-peak amplitude did not change (27.1 +/- 3.1 microV). There was no significant correlation between the relative changes in muscle fiber conduction velocity or surface potential duration and in peak twitch torque (R2= 0.04 and 0.10, respectively). In conclusion, modifications in peak twitch torque of low-threshold motor units with sustained contraction are mainly determined by mechanisms not related to changes in action potential shape and in its propagation velocity.  相似文献

Recently it was demonstrated that postactivation potentiation (PAP), which refers to the enhancement of the muscle twitch torque as a result of a prior conditioning contraction, increased the maximal rate of torque development of tetanic and voluntary isometric contractions (3). In this study, we investigated the effects of PAP and its decay over time on the load-velocity relation. To that purpose, angular velocity of thumb adduction in response to a single electrical stimulus (twitch), a high-frequency train of 15 pulses at 250 Hz (HFT(250)), and during ballistic voluntary shortening contractions, performed against loads ranging from 10 to 50% of the maximum torque, were recorded before and after a conditioning 6-s maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). The results showed an increase of the peak angular velocity for the different loads tested after the conditioning MVC (P < 0.001), but the effect was greatest for the twitch ( approximately 182%) compared with the HFT(250) or voluntary contractions ( approximately 14% for both contraction types). The maximal potentiation occurred immediately following the conditioning MVC for the twitch, whereas it was reached 1 min later for the tetanic and ballistic voluntary contractions. At that time, the load-velocity relation was significantly shifted upward, and the maximal power of the muscle was increased ( approximately 13%; P < 0.001). Furthermore, the results also indicated that the effect of PAP on shortening contractions was not related to the modality of muscle activation. In conclusion, the findings suggest a functional significance of PAP in human movements by improving muscle performance of voluntary dynamic contractions.  相似文献

Eight men (20-23 years) weight trained 3 days.week-1 for 19 weeks. Training sessions consisted of six sets of a leg press exercise (simultaneous hip and knee extension and ankle plantar flexion) on a weight machine, the last three sets with the heaviest weight that could be used for 7-20 repetitions. In comparison to a control group (n = 6) only the trained group increased (P less than 0.01) weight lifting performance (heaviest weight lifted for one repetition, 29%), and left and right knee extensor cross-sectional area (CAT scanning and computerized planimetry, 11%, P less than 0.05). In contrast, training caused no increase in maximal voluntary isometric knee extension strength, electrically evoked knee extensor peak twitch torque, and knee extensor motor unit activation (interpolated twitch method). These data indicate that a moderate but significant amount of hypertrophy induced by weight training does not necessarily increase performance in an isometric strength task different from the training task but involving the same muscle group. The failure of evoked twitch torque to increase despite hypertrophy may further indicate that moderate hypertrophy in the early stage of strength training may not necessarily cause an increase in intrinsic muscle force generating capacity.  相似文献

Potential mechanisms of fatigue (metabolic factors) and potentiation (phosphate incorporation by myosin phosphorylatable light chains) were investigated during recovery from a 60-s maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) in the quadriceps muscle of 12 subjects. On separate days before and for 2 h after the 60-s MVC, either a 1-s MVC or electrically stimulated contractions were used as indexes to test muscle performance. Torque at the end of the 60-s MVC was 57% of the initial level, whereas torques from a 1-s MVC and 50-Hz stimulation were most depressed in the immediate recovery period. At this time, muscle biopsy analyses revealed significant decreases in ATP and phosphocreatine and a 19-fold increase in muscle lactate. Conversely, isometric twitch torque and torque from a 10-Hz stimulus were the least depressed of six contractile indexes and demonstrated potentiation of 25 and 34%, respectively, by 4 min of recovery (P less than 0.05). At this time, muscle lactate concentration was still 16 times greater than at rest. An increased phosphate content of the myosin phosphorylatable light chains (P less than 0.05) was also evident both immediately and 4 min after the 60-s MVC. We conclude that the 60-s MVC produced marked force decreases likely due to metabolic displacement, while the limited decline in the twitch and 10-Hz torques and their significant potentiation suggested that myosin phosphorylation may provide a mechanism to enhance contractile force under conditions of submaximal activation during fatigue.  相似文献

Maximal and submaximal activation level of the right knee-extensor muscle group were studied during isometric and slow isokinetic muscular contractions in eight male subjects. The activation level was quantified by means of the twitch interpolation technique. A single electrical impulse was delivered, whatever the contraction mode, on the femoral nerve at a constant 50 degrees knee flexion (0 degrees = full extension). Concentric, eccentric (both at 20 degrees /s velocity), and isometric voluntary activation levels were then calculated. The mean activation levels during maximal eccentric and maximal concentric contractions were 88.3 and 89.7%, respectively, and were significantly lower (P < 0.05) with respect to maximal isometric contractions (95.2%). The relationship between voluntary activation levels and submaximal torques was linearly fitted (P < 0.01): comparison of slopes indicated lower activation levels during submaximal eccentric compared with isometric or concentric contractions. It is concluded that reduced neural drive is present during 20 degrees /s maximal concentric and both maximal and submaximal eccentric contractions. These results indicate a voluntary activation dependency on both tension levels and type of muscular actions in the human knee-extensor muscle group.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to provide practical suggestions on the effect of stretching on the maximal anaerobic power preceded by active or passive warm-up. To this aim, 15 relatively fit male subjects (age 23 +/- 0.2 years, height 177 +/- 2 cm, body mass 74 +/- 2 kg; [mean +/- SE]) randomly performed a series of squat jumps (SJ) and countermovement jumps (CMJ). Jumps were preceded alternatively by: i) passive stretching of lower limbs muscles; ii) active warm-up (AWU); iii) passive warm up (PWU); and iv) the joining of stretching with either active warm-up (AWU+S) or passive warm-up (PWU+S). In control conditions (C) only jumps were required. For the 2 jumps the flight time (Ft), the peak force (Pf), and the maximal power (Wpmax) were calculated. It resulted that Ft, Pf, and Wmax values were significantly higher: i) after AWU than after PWU and PWU+S in CMJ; and ii) in AWU as compared to those of other protocols of SJ. Stretching did not negatively affect the maximal anaerobic power, per se, but seems to inhibit the effect of AWU. The results suggested that AWU seemed to increase vertical jump performance when compared to PWU, presumably due to an increase in metabolic activity as a consequence of AWU, which did not occur in PWU, despite the same skin temperature. Passive stretching alone seemed not to negatively influence vertical jump performance, whereas, if added after AWU, could reduce the power output.  相似文献

The superimposed twitch technique is frequently used to study the degree of motor unit activation during voluntary effort. This technique is one of the preferred methods to determine the activation deficit (AD) in normal, athletic, and patient populations. One of the limitations of the superimposed twitch technique is its variability under given contractile conditions. The objective of this research was to determine the source(s) of variability in the superimposed twitch force (STF) for repeat measurements. We hypothesized that the variability in the AD measurements may be caused by the timing of the twitch force relative to the onset of muscle activation, by force transients during the twitch application, by small variations in the actual force from the nominal target force, and by variations in the resting twitch force. Twenty-eight healthy subjects participated in this study. Sixteen of these subjects participated in a protocol involving contractions at 50% of their maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) effort, whereas the remaining 12 participated in a protocol involving contractions at 100% of their MVC. Doublet-twitch stimuli were superimposed onto the 50 and 100% effort knee extensor muscle contractions, and the resting twitch forces, voluntary knee extensor forces, and STFs were then measured. The mean resting twitch forces obtained before and after 8 s of 50% of MVC were the same. Similarly, the mean STFs determined at 1, 3, 5, and 7 s into the 50% MVC were the same. The variations in twitch force were significantly smaller after accounting for the actual force at twitch application than those calculated from the prescribed forces during the 50% MVC protocol (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the AD and the actual force showed statistically significant negative correlations for the 50% MVC tests. The interpolated twitch torque determined for the maximal effort contractions ranged from 1 to 70%. In contrast to the protocol at 50% of MVC, negative correlations were only observed in 5 of the 12 subjects during the 100% effort contractions. These results suggest that small variations in the actual force from the target force can account for the majority of the variations in the STFs for submaximal but not maximal effort contractions. For the maximal effort contractions, large variations in the STF exist due to undetermined causes.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine whether neural and/or muscular factors contributed to the inferior strength-related motor performances of obese adolescents. Subjects were 10 non-obese (14.6% fat) and 11 obese (32.3% fat) males matched for age (15-18 years), level of maturity (Tanner stages IV and V), lean body mass, and height. Peak torque (PT) was measured during maximal voluntary isometric (IS) and isokinetic (IK) knee extension (KE). Peak twitch torque (TT), time to peak torque (TPT), and half-relaxation time (HRT) of the knee extensors were elicited by percutaneous electrical stimulation. The interpolated twitch technique was used to determine the extent of motor unit activation (% MUA) during maximal voluntary IS KE. Knee extensor cross-sectional area (CSA) was determined by computed axial tomography taken at the mid-thigh. All strength and area measurements were made on the right side of the body. Obese subjects had significantly (P less than 0.05) lower maximal voluntary IS and IK KE strength normalized for body weight, and significantly lower % MUA during IS KE. There were no significant differences (P greater than 0.05) between groups for absolute or normalized (for the product of muscle CSA and height) ISPT, IKPT, and TT, knee extensor CSA, or TPT and HRT. These results suggest that reduced MUA and a lower strength per mass ratio (due to excess fat) are probably important contributing factors to the poorer motor performances of the obese, especially for complex motor tasks involving large muscle groups and the support or moving of body weight.  相似文献

When mechanical parameters of running are measured, runners have to be accustomed to testing conditions. Nevertheless, habituated runners could still show slight evolutions of their patterns at the beginning of each new running bout. This study investigated runners' stiffness adjustments during shoe and barefoot running and stiffness evolutions of shoes. Twenty-two runners performed two 4-minute bouts at 3.61 m.s-1 shod and barefoot after a 4-min warm-up period. Vertical and leg stiffness decreased during the shoe condition but remained stable in the barefoot condition, p < 0.001. Moreover, an impactor test showed that shoe stiffness increased significantly during the first 4 minutes, p < 0.001. Beyond the 4th minute, shoe properties remained stable. Even if runners were accustomed to the testing condition, as running pattern remained stable during barefoot running, they adjusted their leg and vertical stiffness during shoe running. Moreover, as measurements were taken after a 4-min warm-up period, it could be assumed that shoe properties were stable. Then the stiffness adjustment observed during shoe running might be due to further habituations of the runners to the shod condition. To conclude, it makes sense to run at least 4 minutes before taking measurements in order to avoid runners' stiffness alteration due to shoe property modifications. However, runners could still adapt to the shoe.  相似文献
