Of 444 compounds tested for their ability to stimulate eggs of Heterodera rostochiensis to hatch, forty-five did so to varying extents. Many compounds that hatched H. schachtii Schm. eggs did not hatch H. rostochiensis eggs. The most effective compounds with H. rostochiensis were picrolonic acid, anhydro-tetronic acid and vanadates. Tests with analogues of picrolonic and anhydro-tetronic acids suggested some structures that may be concerned in hatching H. rostochiensis and H. schachtii. The simple analogues hatched the eggs of H. schachtii but not those of H. rostochiensis. Suitably placed polarisable atoms seemed to be an essential feature. Picrolonic acid contains pairs of polarizable atoms, about 4 and 6·7 Å apart, that may respectively be associated with the hatching of H. schachtii and H. rostochiensis. Other features of the more active hatching agents were a cis and co-planar arrangement of the two polarizable atoms with respect to the rest of the molecule. Soil containing new-generation cysts of Heterodera rostochiensis was taken from the field at monthly intervals during late summer and autumn and kept in various conditions for up to a year. The number of eggs that hatched in the stored cysts was compared each month with the number that hatched in cysts taken directly from the field. Eggs did not hatch readily when stimulated during the late autumn and early winter, although more did so in cysts taken from the field before August than after. A few more eggs hatched in cysts stored in air-dried soil than in cysts stored in moist soil. Some cysts were kept at 15 or 20 °C continuously and others at 5, 15 or 30 °C for 6 weeks followed by 20 °C continuously. Storage at 30 °C caused eggs to hatch sooner, but otherwise the temperature of storage had little effect on hatch at any time of the year. Warmth also increased the hatch of H. cruciferae sooner, and some synthetic hatching agents did so with both of these species. When freed from new cysts, more eggs of H. rostochiensis hatched than in intact cysts and hatch was further increased when the fragments of tanned cyst-wall were left with the freed eggs. Puncturing the cyst-wall of new brown cysts had little effect on the hatch in potato root diffusate. Like eggs in new cysts, those in 1-year-old cysts stored out of doors ceased to hatch during the autumn and winter. The term ‘dormancy’ is inadequate to describe the inability of eggs of H. rostochiensis and other Heterodera spp. to hatch in the appropriate stimulant and the term ‘facultative diapause’, as applied to insects, better fits the phenomenon.  相似文献

Fosthiazate (Nemathorin 10G Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha Ltd, Japan) is a new nematicide approved for use on potatoes Solanum tuberosum L. in die UK for die control of die potato cyst nematodes Globodera rostochiensis (Woll). Skarbilovich and G. pallida (Stone). Fosdiiazate delayed and suppressed hatch of die potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida in bom in vitro laboratory tests and a glasshouse pot experiment. In vitro hatch was temporarily inhibited by fosdiiazate concentrations above 0.09 μg ml-1 and increasing me fosdiiazate concentration further prolonged the duration of hatch inhibition. Analysis of fosthiazate soil concentrations, using high-pressure liquid chromatography, during me glasshouse experiment showed mat hatch was suppressed in the soil at concentrations above 0.5 mg kg-1. Other factors such as the paralysis of hatched nematodes in the soil solution are also involved.  相似文献

Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida responded similarly to hatch stimulation by potato root leachate, but proportionally more second-stage juveniles (J2s) of G. rostochiensis hatched than of G. pallida in response to picrolonic acid, sodium thiocyanate, alpha-solanine, and alpha-chaconine. Fractionation of the potato root leachate identified hatching factors with species-selective (active toward both species but stimulating greater hatch of one species than the other), -specific (active toward only one species), and -neutral (equally active toward both species) activities. In a comparison of two populations of each of the two potato cyst nematode (PCN) species, however, greater similarity in response to the individual hatching factors was observed among populations of different species produced under the same conditions than among different populations of the same PCN species. Smaller numbers of species-specific and species-selective hatching factor stimulants and hatching inhibitors than of hatching factors were resolved. In a study to determine whether the different hatching responses of the two species to the same root leachate were associated with different ratios of species-selective and species-specific hatching factors, G. rostochiensis pathotype Ro1 exhibited greater hatch than did G. pallida pathotype Pa2/3 in response to leachate from older plants (more than 38 days old), while G. pallida exhibited greater hatch in response to leachate from younger plants (less than 38 days old); the response of G. pallida pathotype Pal with respect to plant age was intermediate between the other two populations. Combined molecular exclusion-ion exchange chromatography of the root leachates from plants of different ages revealed an increase in the proportion of G. rostochiensis-specific and -selective hatching factors as the plants aged.  相似文献

The proteins extracted by aqueous buffer from the females of six Heterodera spp. were separated into bands by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and the patterns compared. Heterodera schachtii and H. trifolii, with lemonshaped cysts, had a similar pattern of bands, differing greatly from that of the round-cyst nematodes H. virginiae and H. rostochiensis. Ten pathotype A populations of H. rostochiensis had similar patterns, distinguishable from those of twelve pathotype E populations by the absence of two bands and by the presence of another rarely found in pathotype E. Bands from pathotype B populations were indistinguishable from those of pathotype E. No consistent difference was detected between populations of the same pathotype. These results support the suggestion by Jones, Carpenter, Parrott, Stone & Trudgill (1970) that H. rostochiensis Woll. comprises two species.  相似文献

The present work investigated early hatching differences in naturally occuring field populations and newly reared populations of potato cyst nematodes from the Canary Islands. Hatching behavior of the two species appears to be distinct, with more juveniles hatched from G. pallida that hatch earlier and over a shorter time than G. rostochiensis. The hatching rate of 3-year-old PCN populations was more than double (mean 44.5% ñ 1) that shown by newly reared populations (mean 19.1% ñ 12.5), and those that could be classified as pathotype Pa 1 (Pa 1 and P 13) were found to hatch particularly poorly. Significant differences were also observed in the juveniles released in tap water between newly reared populations of both species, with mean hatch significantly higher for G. rostochiensis. The results are discussed in relation to the implication that these findings may have for competition between the two species of PCN in the field.  相似文献

Soil compaction associated with frequent cultivation of potatoes was partly removed with a deep winged-tine coulter. This increased the yield of tubers of cv. Cara in 1987 and 1988 and of cv. Désirée in 1987 in soil which was heavily infested with potato cyst-nematode, Globodera rostochiensis (Woll.), and which was treated with oxamyl at 5.6 kg ha-1. In 1988, in soil not treated with oxamyl, deep cultivation significantly decreased the yield of cv. Cara. In both years, oxamyl decreased numbers of G. rostochiensis eggs in the soil following cv. Désirée potatoes but not following cv. Cara which were resistant to the nematode.  相似文献

The exogenous application of hatching factors (HFs) to soil in the field gave an approximately 50% reduction in the population size of Globodera rostochiensis. This control was found to be due to a combination of suicide hatch and increased in‐egg mortality caused presumably by incomplete hatch stimulation. The rates of hatch and emergence of J2s from cysts of G. rostochiensis were found to be dependent on hatching factor concentration in vitro and in the field. Encysted eggs of G. rostochiensis in the field during the first year of rotation after the previous year's potato crop were found to be more sensitive to HF concentration than those in the second year of rotation.  相似文献

In sandy clay soil in Bedfordshire, potato cyst-nematode (Heterodera rostochiensis Woll.) was controlled and yields of Majestic potatoes greatly increased when i-2g aldicarb, 4-0 g fensulphothion or 10-3 g diazinon, disulphoton, ‘Isolan’ (i-isopropyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolyl dimethylcarba-mate) or thionazin per m2 were incorporated in the top soil before potatoes were planted. Diethyl phosphorothioates controlled H. rostochiensis better than dimethyl phosphates. One hundred and eleven g methyl bromide, 47-6 g carbon disulphide or 45-2 g D-D per m2 applied to the soil and covered with polyethylene sheeting greatly increased the yield of potatoes, but also increased the number of nematodes in the soil. Estimates of the number of larvae able to invade potato roots in treated soil after harvest and of cysts, total eggs or live eggs selected the same range of treatments as effective in controlling H. rostochiensis.  相似文献

Observations on the hatching of winter eggs of Panonychus ulmi (Koch) from apple orchards in England over the 5 years 1962-6 are described. Differences of 2–3 weeks between orchards in the date at which 50% hatch was reached were quite common and this was out of step with petal fall in the majority of orchards. There was a continuous range between early and late hatching populations and a tendency for the populations to hatch in the same order every year. In 1966 populations on Cox's Orange Pippin hatched earlier than those on Worcester Pearmain but the difference was unlikely to be of practical importance. Neither recording accumulated day degrees for populations hatched out-of-doors nor hatching in an incubator after chilling was considered to give a sufficiently reliable forecast of 50% hatch but observations in 1966 suggested that this might be predicted from the total eggs hatched in an incubator expressed as a percentage of total healthy eggs.  相似文献

In a comparison of four potato varieties, in-soil hatch of the golden potato cyst nematode (Globodera rostochiensis) was positively correlated to in vitro hatch in response to potato root leachate (PRL). The in-soil hatch of cysts of G. rostochiensis to two of the four varieties was significantly less than that of the control (cysts in gravel without potato plants) in the first 2 wk after plant emergence, suggesting the production of hatching inhibitors (HIs) by young potato plants. The hatching factor: hatching inhibitor ratio of PRL was positively associated with the net hatching activity of the PRL. Four zones of HI activity were resolved following gel permeation chromatography of PRL on Sephadex G-10. Hatch-inactive chemicals, which stimulated the activity of hatching factors (HFs) in PRL (hatching factor stimulants, HSs), were also isolated from PRL, hatch levels induced by individual HFs responding differently to the same HS preparation. The complex interactions between individual HFs and other hatching chemicals in PRL was illustrated when addition of the hatch-active potato glycoalkaloid α-solanine caused both inhibition and stimulation of PRL-induced hatch, depending on the α-solanine concentration.  相似文献

Brood reduction in birds is frequently induced by hatching asynchrony. Crested penguins (genus Eudyptes) are obligate brood reducers, but in contrast to most other birds, first‐laid eggs are considerably smaller in size than second‐laid eggs; furthermore, first‐laid eggs hatch after their siblings. The mechanisms underlying this reversal in size and hatching order remain unclear. In this study, we tested whether the second‐laid eggs of Snares Penguins Eudyptes robustus have a higher eggshell porosity allowing them to maintain a higher metabolic rate throughout incubation and to hatch before their first‐laid siblings. We investigated differences in egg size, shell thickness, pore density, pore diameter and water vapour conductance between first and second eggs within clutches and examined the influence of these shell characteristics on hatching asynchrony. First‐laid eggs of Snares Penguins were approximately 78% of the size of the larger second eggs. Second‐laid eggs had considerably thicker shells and more pores per cm2 than first eggs, whereas pore diameter did not differ between eggs. Water vapour conductance was greater in second‐ (16.8 mg/day/torr) than in first‐laid eggs (14.9 mg/day/torr). The difference in water vapour conductance between first‐ and second‐laid eggs within clutches was related to hatching patterns. In nests where second eggs hatched before first‐laid eggs, second eggs had a considerably greater water conductance than their sibling, whereas in nests where both eggs hatched on the same day, the difference in water conductance between eggs was very small, and in a few nests where small first eggs hatched before their larger sibling, they had a greater water conductance than their larger second‐laid nestmate. Surprisingly few studies have investigated differences in shell characteristics between eggs within clutches and associated effects on hatching asynchrony. This study has demonstrated that such differences exist between eggs within clutches and that they can influence hatching patterns.  相似文献

A major drawback to the use in aquaculture of members of the Eubranchiopoda from temporary pool environments is that their eggs do not hatch readily. An investigation of the factors influencing the hatching of eggs of the fairy shrimpStreptocephalus macrourus, showed that light was the only factor of those investigated that was obligatory for hatching. It was found that eggs which had not been desiccated hatched successfully in the presence of absence of adults, while those which had been desiccated showed a block in hatching initially, although this block deteriorated with time and after approximately two months the eggs which had been desiccated showed a similar hatching success to that of the non-desiccated eggs. Exposure of eggs to extremes of heat or cold before incubation did not influence the hatching success of the eggs significantly, but the temperature at which incubation took place was important. The optimal range lay between 14 °C and 20 °C. Eggs hatched and nauplii survived at dissolved oxygen tensions of below 0.5 mg 1–1  相似文献

The toxic effects of sublethal concentrations ofaldicarb were studied on eggs and second-stage larvae and males of Heterodera schachtii and second-stage larvae only of Meloidogyne javanica in a quartz sand substrate. Aldicarb was more toxic to eggs of H. schachtii than to those of M. javanica. Complete suppression of hatching occurred between 0.48 and 4.8 μg/ml aldicarb for H. schachtii whereas 100% inhibition of hatch of M. javanica occurred between 4.8 and 48.0 μg/ml. M. javanica hatch was stimulated at 0.48 μg/ml aldicarb. Migration of second-stage larvae of H. schachtii and M. javanica in sand columns was inhibited under continuous exposure to 1 μg/ml aldicarb. Infection of sugarbeet and tomato seedlings by larvae was inhibited at 1 μg/ml. H. schachtii males failed to migrate toward nubile females at 0.01 μg/ml aldicarb. This was partially confirmed in a field study in which adding aldicarb to soil resulted in fewer females being fertilized.  相似文献

Hatching studies with Heterodera glycines typically have been conducted with a mixture of egg-mass and encysted eggs. Laboratory research was conducted to compare hatching of H. glycines eggs from external egg masses with that of eggs extracted from within females and cysts (encysted eggs). Egg-mass eggs were collected by soaking infected soybean roots in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite, and encysted eggs were collected from females and cysts dislodged from the same roots with a stream of water. Eggs were incubated at 25 °C in deionized water, 3.0 mM ZnSO₄solution, or one of three synthetic H. glycines hatch inhibitors, mad hatched juveniles were counted every other day for 22 days. Samples of eggs collected at the beginning and end of all experiments were analyzed to determine extent of embryo development. Egg-mass eggs hatched more rapidly than encysted eggs during the first 16 days, but not thereafter. Throughout the experiments, hatch of egg-mass eggs in deionized water was greater than that of encysted eggs. From day 8 to day 22, egg-mass eggs were less sensitive than encysted eggs to the hatch inhibitor 2-(2''-carboxyethyl)-5-[carboxy(hydroxy)methylidenyl]cyclopentanone. A greater proportion of egg-mass eggs contained vermiform juveniles than did encysted eggs at the beginning of the experiments, but not at the end. Results indicated that H. glycines egg-mass and encysted eggs have different hatching behaviors that cannot be explained entirely by differences in embryological development.  相似文献

Summary Chances for survival increase as a snail grows, and the resulting size-specific survival curve dictates hatching size. Related species tend to hatch at the same size, reflecting similarities in ecological roles. Hatching size depends upon macrohabitat and microhabitat among the Muricidae. Thais emarginata hatches large enough to escape from a major predator (the hermit crab) of newly hatched T. lamellosa. However, Thais hatching sizes reflect a general trend for upper shore muricids to hatch larger than lower shore ones, rather than a response to predators. A given volume of yolk will yield the same volume of hatchlings (regardless of hatching type or number of hatchlings) for all prosobranchs, including those whose embryos feed on nurse eggs. Therefore, no hatchlings are inflated more than others to make them less attractive to predators.  相似文献

周期性孤雌繁殖的轮虫靠休眠卵度过不良环境,等环境适宜时休眠卵孵化出干雌体,再次通过孤雌繁殖建立种群。通常休眠卵要经历一段休眠期再孵化,但也有些休眠卵生成后很快孵化,称为早孵化现象。有关休眠卵不同孵化对策如何影响其干雌体克隆种群的增长,目前尚不清楚。分别观测了萼花臂尾轮虫(Brachionus calyciflorus)的两个品系H1(窄温度生态位)和D1(宽温度生态位)的休眠卵在不同孵化对策和不同食物浓度下所生产的干雌体克隆群的种群增长差异。孵化对策包括早孵化(early hatching,EH)和晚孵化(late hatching,LH);食物浓度包括高食物浓度(high food concentration,HF:2×106个细胞/mL)和低食物浓度(low food concentration,LF:5×105个细胞/mL),每个品系下各设置4个实验组(LH-HF、LH-LF、EH-HF、EH-LF),每组10个重复。结果发现,对D1品系来说:孵化对策和食物浓度对最大种群数量具有显著的综合影响(P=0.002),但两因素间不存在交互作用(P=0.911);早孵化的干雌体种群在最大种群数量上显著高于晚孵化的干雌体种群(P=0.001)。对H1品系:孵化对策和食物浓度对最大种群数量综合影响显著(P<0.001),且两个因素之间存在交互作用(P<0.001);高食物浓度下,EH干雌体克隆群的最大种群数量显著低于LH干雌体克隆群(P<0.001)。高食物浓度下干雌体克隆群开始有性生殖的密度阈值,D1品系EH组显著高于LH组(P=0.041);而H1品系EH组却显著低于LH组(P=0.022)。最高种群密度下,H1品系的有性生殖率在两种孵化对策之间存在显著差异(P=0.044),EH种群的有性生殖率低于LH种群,而D品系却未见有性生殖率在不同孵化对策间存在明显差异。本研究结果显示休眠卵的孵化对策会影响其后代干雌体种群的增长特性,其影响的结果可能与种群的生境适应相关。  相似文献

Laboratory‐validated data on the survival, development and hatching responses of fertilized Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus eggs from the northern Japan stock were determined through an incubation experiment. The optimum temperature for survival until hatching ranged from 4 to 8° C. No significant difference in development rates was found between the populations from Mutsu Bay, Japan, and western Canadian coastal waters even though the samples may belong to different G. macrocephalus stocks. Gadus macrocephalus larvae hatched asynchronously from egg batches despite incubation under the same environment during their development. Both incubation temperature and temperature‐mediated hatch rank affect size and yolk reserve. These data suggest that variations in water temperatures within an ecological range markedly influence the development rates, survival and hatching of the eggs, as well as the stage at hatch larvae of G. macrocephalus. Asynchronous hatching and the production of offspring with variable sizes and yolk reserves are considered evolutionary bet‐hedging strategies that enable the species to maximize their likelihood of survival in an environment with variable temperatures.  相似文献

以前研究发现,辽宁地区大豆生长期间及收获期土壤中胞囊孵出的二龄幼虫量很少,推测线虫卵的休眠与大豆生长时期或季节相关。为明确该地区大豆胞囊线虫的休眠特点,2002-2003年采用田间随机多点取样、室内分离及模拟自然条件孵化等方法对大豆胞囊线虫的休眠进行深入研究。结果表明:在生长季节,感病品种辽豆10根围土壤中的白色雌虫、卵囊及褐色的胞囊均可孵出二龄幼虫,且孵化持续时间较长,第21d仍有幼虫孵出,白色雌虫及卵囊内的卵孵化率高于褐色胞囊;不同作物对其根围土壤中胞囊内卵的孵化影响不大,寄主作物大豆、非寄主作物玉米根围及休闲地土壤中的胞囊在条件适宜均可孵出二龄幼虫;季节对胞囊内卵的孵化有较大的影响,出苗期孵化率最高,收获期最低,2周时平均1个胞囊孵出幼虫分别为83.8和9.7条;胞囊皮对线虫卵的孵化有显著的影响。表明沈阳地区大豆胞囊线虫在正常和逆境条件下均有部分卵表现休眠。  相似文献

The relative age of an individual's siblings is a major cause of fitness variation in many species. In Blue tits (Cyanistes caeruleus), we show that age hierarchies are predominantly caused by incubation preclutch completion, such that last laid eggs hatch later than early laid eggs. However, after statistically controlling for incubation behavior late laid eggs are shown to hatch more quickly than early laid eggs reducing the amount of asynchrony. By experimentally switching early and late laid eggs between nests on the day they were laid, we controlled for the effect of differential incubation and found that the faster hatching times of late laid eggs remains. Chicks that hatched earlier were heavier and had higher probability of fledgling, and chicks that hatched from experimental eggs had patterns of growth and survival consistent with this. Egg mass explained a small part of this variation, but the remainder must be due to egg composition. These results are consistent with the idea that intrinsic differences between eggs across the laying sequence serve to mitigate the effects of age‐related hierarchies. We also show that between‐clutch variation in prenatal developmental rate exists and that it is mainly environmental in origin rather than genetic.  相似文献
