Specimens from 32 pustular acne lesions that were inoculated on media supportive for the growth of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria showed bacterial growth. Only aerobic or facultative bacteria were recovered in 15 (47%) specimens, only anaerobic bacteria in 11 (34%) specimens, and mixed aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in 6 (18%) specimens. A total of 57 isolates, 31 anaerobes (1.0 per specimen) and 26 aerobes (0.8 per specimen) were recovered. The predominant isolates were Staphylococcus sp. (19 isolates), Peptostreptococcus sp. (15), and Propionibacterium sp. (10). Twelve (37.5%) of the comedones yielded only one organism. This retrospective study highlighted the polymicrobial nature of over two-thirds of culture positive pustular acne lesions and suggests the potential for pathogenic role of aerobic and anaerobic organisms other than P. acnes and Staphylococcus sp. in acne vulgaris.  相似文献

A stable microbial system in the respiratory tract acts as an important defense mechanism against pathogenic microorganisms. Perturbations in this system may allow pathogens to establish. In an ecological environment such as the respiratory tract, there are many diverse factors that play a role in the establishment of the indigenous flora. In the present work we studied the normal microbial flora of different areas of the respiratory tract of mice and their evolution from the time the mice were born. Our interest was to know which were the dominant groups of microorganisms in each area, which were the first capable of colonizing and which dominated over time to be used as probiotic microorganisms. Our results show that Gram negative facultatively anaerobic bacilli and strict anaerobic microorganisms were the last ones to appear in the bronchia, while aerobic and Gram positive cocci were present in all the areas of the respiratory tract. The number of facultative aerobes and strict anaerobes were similar in the nasal passage, pharynx instilled and trachea, but lower in bronchia. The dominant species were Streptococcus viridans and Staphylococcus saprophyticcus, followed by S. epidermidis, Lactobacilli and S. cohnii I which were present on every studied days but at different proportions. This paper is the first part of a research topic investigating the protective effect of the indigenous flora against pathogens using the mice as an experimental model.  相似文献

Intracellular levels of three coenzyme A (CoA) molecular species, i.e., nonesterified CoA (CoASH), acetyl-CoA, and malonyl-CoA, in a variety of aerobic and facultatively anaerobic bacteria were analyzed by the acyl-CoA cycling method developed by us. It was demonstrated that there was an intrinsic difference between aerobes and facultative anaerobes in the changes in the size and composition of CoA pools. The CoA pools in the aerobic bacteria hardly changed and were significantly smaller than those of the facultatively anaerobic bacteria. On the other hand, in the facultatively anaerobic bacteria, the size and composition of the CoA pool drastically changed within minutes in response to the carbon and energy source provided. Acetyl-CoA was the major component of the CoA pool in the facultative anaerobes grown on sufficient glucose, although CoASH was dominant in the aerobes. Therefore, the acetyl-CoA/CoASH ratios in facultatively anaerobic bacteria were 10 times higher than those in aerobic bacteria. In Escherichia coli K-12 cells, the addition of reagents to inhibit the respiratory system led to a rapid decrease in the amount of acetyl-CoA with a concomitant increase in the amount of CoASH, whereas the addition of cerulenin, a specific inhibitor of fatty acid synthase, triggered the intracellular accumulation of malonyl-CoA. The acylation and deacylation of the three CoA molecular species coordinated with the energy-yielding systems and the restriction of the fatty acid-synthesizing system of cells. These data suggest that neither the accumulation of acetyl-CoA nor that of malonyl-CoA exerts negative feedback on pyruvate dehydrogenase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase, respectively.  相似文献

Several years ago, it was observed that sterile microbial membrane preparations stimulated recovery of certain radiation-injured bacteria. Later it was noted that these same preparations reduce dissolved oxygen to water in a variety of environments, including bacteriological media. This reduction of oxygen is an enzymatic process and is influenced by parameters such as temperature, pH, and the availability of specific oxidizable substrates. Oxygenreducing membrane preparations can be made from several different bacterial species. When added to liquid or solid bacteriological media, membrane preparations rapidly produce and maintain anaerobic conditions favorable for the growth of a wide variety of oxygen-sensitive microorganisms. When used with a specifically designed disposable dish, membrane preparations allow the development of colonies of many anaerobic microorganisms on the surface of agar without the use of anaerobic hoods or other devices. In addition to providing conditions suitable for the growth of anaerobes, membrane preparations stimulate recovery of heat and cold injured bacteria of several different genera including facultative organisms. These results are reminiscent of the early observations regarding the recovery of radiation-injured bacteria. In addition to their usefulness in microbiology, oxygen-reducing membrane preparations have the potential for protecting a wide variety of oxygen-sensitive organic compounds.  相似文献

从64只感染根管中的58只根管分离到144株无芽胞厌氧菌,其中类杆菌54株,厌氧性链球菌23株,韦荣氏球菌17株,真杆菌11株,梭杆菌10株,放线菌8株,双岐杆菌2株,消化链球菌和消化球菌19株。40只根管为厌氧菌和兼性厌氧菌或需氧菌混合感染,18只根管和6只根管分别为单独厌氧菌和兼性厌氧菌感染。33只根尖周炎根管分别采集牙髓和根尖渗出物样本进行培养,实验结果表明牙髓样本中革兰氏阳性厌氧杆菌检出率较高,根尖渗出物中以产黑素类杆菌属的细菌检出率较高。根尖周炎和牙槽脓肿患者的感染根管中产黑素类杆菌属的细菌检出率明显高于蜂窝组织炎患者。  相似文献

In order to establish the etiological agents of anaerobic infections, 154 clinical specimens collected from patients with suspected anaerobic infection were cultured under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Bacteria were isolated from 111 (72%) of these specimens. Only aerobes were recovered from 48 (43%), only anaerobes from 31 (28%) and both aerobes and anaerobes from 32 (29%) of the 111 specimens. A total 83 anaerobic bacteria including Bacteroides fragilis group (28%), Porphyromonas (19%), Peptostreptococci (10%), Prevotella (17%), Clostridia (12%), Fusobacteria (10%), Veillonella (2%) and Eubacteria (2%) were identified. Anaerobes were most commonly isolated from peritoneal fluid followed by joint fluid, abscess and endometrial materials, blood, soft-tissue biopsy and draining material.  相似文献

Total and anaerobic counts were ascertained on boneless, cooked, cubed, frozen chicken meat. We determined survival of aerobes and anaerobes in the natural flora after the meat was freeze-dehydrated and rehydrated at room temperature for 30 min and at 50, 85, and 100 C for 10 min. Total and anaerobic counts of bacteria in the rehydrated meat were established during storage of samples at 4, 22, and 37 C-until a spoilage odor was detected. Samples were also inoculated with Clostridium sporogenes and were dried and rehydrated at 100 C and stored at 37 C. Approximately 21% of the aerobes and 37% of the anaerobes survived drying and rehydration at room temperature. Many genera of aerobes, anaerobes, and facultative anaerobes survived drying and rehydration at 50 C; only sporeformers survived rehydration at 85 or 100 C. Low-temperature (4 C) storage of rehydrated meat produced ample shelf life (over 20 days), whereas storage at the higher temperature resulted in a shelf life of less than 30 hr. Approximately 81% of the C. sporogenes cells survived rehydration at 100 C and grew to over 10(7) cells within 40 hr. Our study presents additional data for adequate microbiological control in processing of freeze-dehydrated meat. Also, it points out the natural selection for sporeformers at high temperature of rehydration, stressing the need for consumer education in product handling for safety purposes.  相似文献

As the result of the study carried out by the authors, a conclusion has been made on the leading role of polymicrobial aerobic-anaerobic complexes, capable of producing a synergic effect, in the etiology of endometritis, anaerobic microorganisms prevailing in their importance. In the etiology of endometritis the most important organisms are bacteroids and peptostreptococci among anaerobes, enterobacteria and group D streptococci among aerobes. Anaerobic bacteria causing endometritis are most sensitive to dalacin and lincomycin, least sensitive to benzylpenicillin, resistant to aminoglycosides. The amounts of aerobic and anaerobic microflora contaminating the uterine cavity correlate with the severity of endometritis.  相似文献

Phenol, or hydroxybenzene, is both a synthetically and naturally produced aromatic compound. Microorganisms capable of degrading phenol are common and include both aerobes and anaerobes. Many aerobic phenol-degrading microorganisms have been isolated and the pathways for the aerobic degradation of phenol are now firmly established. The first steps include oxygenation of phenol by phenol hydroxylase enzymes to form catechol, followed by ring cleavage adjacent to or in between the two hydroxyl groups of catechol. Phenol hydroxylases ranging from simple flavoprotein monooxygenases to multicomponent hydroxylases, as well as the genes coding for these enzymes, have been described for a number of aerobic phenol-degrading microorganisms. Phenol can also be degraded in the absence of oxygen. Our knowledge of this process is less advanced than that of the aerobic process, and only a few anaerobic phenol-degrading bacteria have been isolated to date. Convincing evidence from both pure culture studies with the denitrifying organism Thauera aromatica K172 and with two Clostridium species, as well as from mixed culture studies, indicates that the first step in anaerobic phenol degradation is carboxylation in the para-position to form 4-hydroxybenzoate. Following para-carboxylation, thioesterification of 4-hydroxybenzoate to co-enzyme A allows subsequent ring reduction, hydration, and fission. Para-carboxylation appears to be involved in the anaerobic degradation of a number of aromatic compounds. Numerous practical applications exist for microbial phenol degradation. These include the exploitation of indigenous anaerobic phenol-degrading bacteria in the in situ bioremediation of creosote-contaminated subsurface environments, and the use of phenol as a co-substrate for indigenous aerobic phenol-degrading bacteria to enhance in situ biodegradation of chlorinated solvents.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the occurrence of microorganisms in 39 intraoral abscesses. The samples were place in transport medium. The materials were inoculated on adequate enrichment and selective media and cultivated under anaerobic and aerobic conditions. The microorganisms were found in all samples (100%), Anaerobic bacteria most frequently were recovered. The predominant anaerobes were from genus Prevotella, Bacteroides, Fusobacterium and Peptostreptococcus. Among aerobic bacteria, the most frequent were gram-positive cocci. The microaerophilic bacteria and fungi most rarely were isolated from pus samples.  相似文献

Bacteriological studies were conducted in patients presenting with Fournier's Gangrene (FG) in our Department during a period of 11 years. These studies showed high numbers of anaerobes (96%) and the ratio of aerobes to anaerobes was reported to be 1.4: 3.2. Among the anaerobes,Peptostreptococci, Bacteroides and Prevotella were more frequently isolated. The predominant facultative aerobic microorganisms were Streptococci and Escherichia coli. Clinical investigation showed necrotic cellulitis and fasciitis of the scrotum due to mixed aerobic-anaerobic infection. Patients with complicated paraproctitis and periurethral abscesses and urinary phlegmones who also presented with symptoms of FG were treated during this same period. Microbiological studies gave similar results and clinical studies showed that the process had spread to the scrotum. The question was then raised whether FG should be diagnosed as an independent nosological entity in cases where the underlying cause of the disease was obscure or if FG should be the result of different pathological processes which occurred within the scrotal surfaces. In other cases, FG is secondary and occurred after reaching the scrotum per continuitatem.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of leachate treatment by microbial oxidation in four connected on-site aerated lagoons at a landfill site. The landfill site was found to be in an ageing methanogenic state, producing leachate with relatively low COD (mean value 1740 mg l−1) and relatively high ammonium concentrations (mean value 1241 mg l−1). Removal of COD averaged 75%, with retention times varying from 11 to 254 days. Overall 80% of the N load was removed within the plant, some by volatilisation of ammonium. Microbial community profiling of the water from each lagoon showed a divergent community profile, presumably a reflection of the nutrient status in each lagoon. In municipal solid waste landfills under similar conditions, leachate treatment through a facultative aerobic system in which sequential aerobic and anaerobic microbial oxidations occurred can readily be achieved using a simple two-lagoon system, suggesting this technology can be economic to install and simple to run.  相似文献

Dental plaque anaerobes may be associated with the etiology of periodontal disease. This has created an interest in the potential pathogenicity of oral anaerobes. We compared the metabolic activity of anaerobic corynebacteria (C. parvum, C. anaerobium) and corresponding aerobic species (C. diphtheriae, C. xerosis). The anaerobes exhibited lower levels of growth rate, m-RNA half-life and ribosomal efficiency but much higher levels of RNA synthesis, ranging from 5 to 10 fold over the aerobes. We further examined these anaerobes, plusActinomyces naeslundi N16 (isolated from the anaerobic region of periodontally-diseased tissues), for the influence of redox potential on RNA level and antigenic function. Notable increases in RNA were found at specific Eh levels; the extent and direction of the changes varied with the different organisms. This environmental feature appeared to effect corresponding changes in agglutinability and PCA reactivity with antisera against the anaerobes cultured at different redox potentials. For example, while antisera against certain organisms (C. parvum, A. naeslundi) cultured under the most reduced conditions showed an intense PCA reaction, other antisera against the same organism cultured under less reduced conditions were non-reactive. Hence, alterations in redox potential may lead to altered metabolism and to altered antigenicity. Our results imply such a microbial response to environmental stress.  相似文献

Abstract A method for extraction of microbial populations from wood samples was worked out which gave good recovery of both aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms in agar shake dilution and plating enumerations. This method was applied to the quantification of microbial populations in three European white firs ( Abies alba Mill.) which were afflicted with the European fir disease. Low numbers of aerobic microorganisms (102−104 colony- forming units (cfu) per g fresh tissue) were detected in sapwood irrespective of the degree of affliction. Anaerobic bacteria were usually 1–2 orders of magnitude less frequent. Wetwood of highly diseased firs contained significantly higher numbers of aerobic microorganisms (105−107), whereas the number of anaerobes was not enhanced significantly. Among the prevalent aerobic microorganisms in wetwood were Protaminobacter, Pseudomonas strains, and a yeast. In anaerobic counts from wetwood, Klebsiella and Vibrio strains predominated. The sapwood contained Bacillus, Beijerinckia, Staphylococcus , and Clostridium spp. High numbers of aerobic microorganisms were also detected in the roots and lower stem of a diseased vine plant ( Vitis vinifera L.). The importance of microbial populations in wetwood formation and disease expression is discussed.  相似文献

Biologically produced hydrogen (biohydrogen) is a valuable gas that is seen as a future energy carrier, since its utilization via combustion or fuel cells produces pure water. Heterotrophic fermentations for biohydrogen production are driven by a wide variety of microorganisms such as strict anaerobes, facultative anaerobes and aerobes kept under anoxic conditions. Substrates such as simple sugars, starch, cellulose, as well as diverse organic waste materials can be used for biohydrogen production. Various bioreactor types have been used and operated under batch and continuous conditions; substantial increases in hydrogen yields have been achieved through optimum design of the bioreactor and fermentation conditions. This review explores the research work carried out in fermentative hydrogen production using organic compounds as substrates. The review also presents the state of the art in novel molecular strategies to improve the hydrogen production.  相似文献

The development of bacterial cultures of 37 microbial strains was studied after their 4-5 and 24 hour cultivation in liquid thawed and normal nutrient media. The cultivation of gram-positive aerobic bacteria, facultative anaerobic bacteria, actinomycetes and moulds in pre-frozen nutrient media increased 2-4 fold their reproduction as compared to that in the media that were not prefrozen. An insigificant acceleration of growth was found in six strains of gram-negative aerobic bacteria.  相似文献

The effect of antimicrobial administration on the percentage of tetracycline-resistant facultative and anaerobic bacteria in the intestines of humans and animals was studied. Tetracycline was chosen because it is an antibiotic commonly used both as a feed supplement for animals, and therapeutically for humans and animals. More than 200 faecal specimens of bovine, porcine, equine, canine, feline and human origin were collected into pre-reduced anaerobic media. Ninety-one subjects from groups receiving antimicrobials as feed supplements, therapeutically or with no recent antibiotic exposure were included in the study. Counts of both facultative and anaerobic bacteria were determined from media with and without tetracycline. The percentage of normal faecal specimens harbouring tetracycline-resistant coliforms was 56 for humans. 100 for calves. 100 for pigs. 36 for horses, 90 for dogs and 67 for cats. All samples contained Gram negative anaerobes resistant to tetracycline. Subjects from all species receiving antimicrobials showed higher percentages of tetracycline-resistant coliforms and anaerobes than subjects not receiving antibiotics. Greater increases in the percentage of tetracycline-resistant facultative organisms were noted in subjects which received antibiotics as feed supplements compared with subjects which were given therapeutic doses of antibiotics. Percentages of tetracycline-resistant anaerobes showed the opposite trend with more increase among those subjects receiving therapeutic levels of antimicrobial agents.  相似文献
