Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Medik. is a self compatible tetraploid annual species which has successfully spread to most continents and is mostly confined to man-made habitats. The colonising success may be associated with fine-scaled ecotypic differentiation, and regional adaptation. Seeds of 377 individuals from 40 provenances were collected over a distance of more than 2500 km from the Kola Peninsula in the north to the Caspian Sea in the south in Russia and from northern to southern Scandinavia. 3558 progenies were investigated in common garden field experiments in order to distinguish between phenotypic variability and genetic variation of quantitative life-history traits (onset of flowering, rosette diameter, leaf type, plant height, and branching and fruit characters). Genetic diversity and population structure was examined with isozyme analysis. Along both transects, Capsella showed clinal differentiation in phenotypic traits: e.g., the most northern and most southern provenances flowered earlier than the provenances from in between. A highly significant quadratic correlation exists between morphological traits and the degree of latitude. Distribution of leaf types showed no geographical pattern, unlike that observed for other regions. Allozyme variation follows a pattern of isolation by distance.  相似文献

The extent of genetic variation and levels of temporal and spatial heterogeneity was investigated, at six polymorphic protein‐coding loci, in wild Atlantic salmon Salmo salar populations from six rivers of Asturias (Northern Spain). Also, stocks from northern Europe that were among those introduced to repopulate Asturian Rivers, and other wild Spanish and European populations were characterized. The lack of temporal variation observed suggests that effective population sizes of Asturian populations are sufficiently large to prevent extreme levels of genetic drift and that the introduced fish had a negligible contribution to the fisheries of Asturian rivers.  相似文献

The genetic structure of populations is an important determinant of the evolutionary potential of a species. Colonizing plants tend to be characterized by low within- and high among-population variability. Genetic differentiation of both floral traits and isozymes was studied in six populations of wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum). Evidence for differentiation in both sets of traits was found, but patterns of differentiation of floral traits did not coincide with isozyme differentiation. Contrary to most colonizing species, wild radish showed high within- and only moderate among-population variability at isozyme loci. In addition, levels of differentiation did not correspond to geographic distance between the populations. These results are likely due at least in part to the self-incompatibility system of this species, long-distance movement of large numbers of wild radish seeds by humans, and introgression from cultivated radish (R. sativus).  相似文献

Intraspecific trait variation within natural populations (i.e. intra‐population trait variation, IPTV) is the basic source for selection and can have significant ecological consequences. Higher IPTV may increase a population's niche breath and benefit interspecies competition under a resource‐limited environment, thus affecting the ability of a species to move into novel habitats. However, the reciprocal influences of variation in environmental conditions and phenotypic trait expression in spreading plant populations are not clearly defined. We propose that during invasion, IPTV and its relative change in response to key resource enrichment may increase with the resource deficit of invaded sites, and that this relationship may facilitate plant invasions into resource‐limited environments. We analyzed the invasion trend, IPTV and its response to water enrichment, and moisture variability among populations of an annual grass Brachypodium hybridum in California, United States. We incorporated a genotyping‐by‐sequencing approach, a common garden experiment that had two water level treatments, and public plant and climate databases. Our hypothesis was supported by the observation that for populations that invaded sites with higher spring moisture deficit, both their seed biomass IPTV (for the water‐enriched treatment only) and relative change of the IPTV across water treatments were larger when examined in the common garden experiment. A generally north to south spreading direction was found in these B. hybridum populations, towards a drier and warmer climate exhibiting higher moisture deficit for plant growth. Our results suggest a role for interactions between IPTV (rather than trait means) and environmental resource availability in promoting plant invasions, providing new insights into the significance of IPTV in shaping plant geographic distributions.  相似文献

To examine if the cultivation process has reduced the genetic variation of modern cultivars of the traditional Chinese medicinal plant, Coptis chinensis, the levels and distribution of genetic variation was investigated using ISSR markers. A total of 214 C. chinensis individuals from seven wild and three cultivated populations were included in the study. Seven ISSR primers were used and a total of 91 DNA fragments were scored. The levels of genetic diversity in cultivated populations were similar as those in wild populations (mean PPL = 65.2% versus PPL = 52.4%, mean H = 0.159 versus H = 0.153 and mean I = 0.255 versus I = 0.237), suggesting that cultivation did not seriously influence genetic variation of present-day cultivated populations. Neighbour-joining cluster analysis showed that wild populations and cultivated populations were not separated into two groups. The coefficient of genetic differentiation between a cultivar and its wild progenitor was 0.066 (G(st)), which was in good accordance with the result by amova analysis (10.9% of total genetic variation resided on the two groups), indicating that cultivated populations were not genetically differentiated from wild progenitors. For the seven wild populations, a significant genetic differentiation among populations was found using amova analysis (45.9% of total genetic variation resided among populations). A number of causes, including genetic drift and inbreeding in the small and isolated wild populations, the relative limited gene flow between wild populations (N(m) = 0.590), and high gene flow between cultivars and their wild progenitors (N(m) = 7.116), might have led to the observed genetic profiles of C. chinensis.  相似文献

Large amounts of genetic variation for wing length and wing area were demonstrated both within and between Drosophila melanogaster populations along a latitudinal gradient in South America. Wing length and wing area showed a strong positive correlation with latitude in both wild flies and laboratory-raised descendants. Large population differences were observed for heritability and coefficient of variation of these two traits, whereas relatively small population differences were found for development time, viability, pupal mortality, sex ratio and their norms of reaction to four developmental temperatures. No clear-cut latitudinal clines were established for these life-history characters. These results are discussed in the light of Bergmann's Rule and the relation between larval development and adult body size.  相似文献

Phenotypic and genetic variation within and among eight populations of Arabis serrata are documented in this study. This species shows great morphological variation throughout its geographical distribution in Japan. Plants are located in habitats with different types of soils and degree of disturbance. Half-sibs progenies from eight populations were collected and cultivated in a garden experiment. Nine morphological traits representing size and shape of rosette leaves were recorded. Univariate analyses of measured traits showed that phenotypic means differed among populations for all characters. Leaves of plants from disturbed habitats had the longest petioles (lanceolate) and plants from limestone habitats showed the most roundness in leaf shape (ovate). The northernmost populations always revealed the smallest leaves. Multivariate principal component analyses also showed that leaf shape and size varied among populations. The first three principal components explained 98.5% of the variation. Coefficients of variation had a very wide range and differed from one population to another. Some traits (e.g. leaf width/leaf length ratio) were consistently less variable while others (e.g. leaf area and petiole length) were more plastic. All traits had significant genetic variance in all populations. Intra-class correlation coefficients differed for most of the traits and each population presented a different range of values. Most of the leaf traits were intercorrelated in all the populations studied, although some populations were integrated more tightly for some traits. Populations of A. serrata are differentiated in phenotypic means but they display a mosaic of traits with slight morphological differences in each locality (i.e. a quantitative genetic variation). Some traits can be correlated to the habitats that they occupy but for some of them it is difficult to assign an actual adaptive value.  相似文献

Ecological diversification depends on the extent of genetic variation and on the pattern of covariation with respect to ecological opportunities. We investigated the pattern of utilization of carbon substrates in wild populations of budding yeast Saccharomyces paradoxus. All isolates grew well on a core diet of about 10 substrates, and most were also able to grow on a much larger ancillary diet comprising most of the 190 substrates we tested. There was substantial genetic variation within each population for some substrates. We found geographical variation of substrate use at continental, regional, and local scales. Isolates from Europe and North America could be distinguished on the basis of the pattern of yield across substrates. Two geographical races at the North American sites also differed in the pattern of substrate utilization. Substrate utilization patterns were also geographically correlated at local spatial scales. Pairwise genetic correlations between substrates were predominantly positive, reflecting overall variation in metabolic performance, but there was a consistent negative correlation between categories of substrates in two cases: between the core diet and the ancillary diet, and between pentose and hexose sugars. Such negative correlations in the utilization of substrate from different categories may indicate either intrinsic physiological trade‐offs for the uptake and utilization of substrates from different categories, or the accumulation of conditionally neutral mutations. Divergence in substrate use accompanies genetic divergence at all spatial scales in S. paradoxus and may contribute to race formation and speciation.  相似文献

采用水平淀粉凝胶电泳技术对采集于黄海海州湾海域的真鲷野生群体和经过 2代人工繁育的养殖群体进行了同工酶遗传变异研究。分析检测了 2个群体各 50个样本肌肉和肝脏组织的 1 3种同工酶共 2 0个基因位点 ,其中MDH_a、GPI、PGM等 1 0个位点为多态位点 ,ME和EST_b为变异程度比较高的位点。野生群体和人工繁殖群体的多态位点比例分别为 45%和 2 5% (P0 .95) ;群体平均观察杂合度分别为 0 .1 41± 0 .0 4 4和 0 .0 95± 0 .0 4 3。结果表明 ,真鲷的野生群体和养殖群体拥有较高程度的遗传变异水平 ,但是养殖群体的遗传变异水平比野生群体有一定程度的降低。养殖群体遗传变异水平的降低在一定程度上是由于亲鱼数量少所致。比较了同工酶分析和RAPD分析的结果。将此两种技术相结合在鱼类群体遗传多样性分析中具有比较实际的意义。  相似文献

Genetic variation among 12 populations of the American chestnut (Castanea dentata) was investigated. Population genetic parameters estimated from allozyme variation suggest that C. dentata at both the population and species level has narrow genetic diversity as compared to other species in the genus. Average expected heterozygosity was relatively low for the population collected in the Black Rock Mountain State Park, Georgia (He = 0.096 +/- 0.035), and high for the population in east central Alabama (He = 0.196 +/- 0.048). Partitioning of the genetic diversity based on 18 isozyme loci showed that ~10% of the allozyme diversity resided among populations. Cluster analysis using unweighted pair-group method using arithmetric averages of Rogers' genetic distance and principal components analysis based on allele frequencies of both isozyme and RAPD loci revealed four groups: the southernmost population, south-central Appalachian populations, north-central Appalachian populations, and northern Appalachian populations. Based on results presented in this study, a conservation strategy and several recommendations related to the backcross breeding aimed at restoring C. dentata are discussed.  相似文献

Summary One possible consequence of low population density, particularly in self-incompatible plants, is reproductive failure. I surveyed seed set per flower in two populations of the self-incompatible annual Diplotaxis erucoides (Brassicaceae) in Jerusalem, Israel. Widely spaced plants had lower fruit set and fewer seeds per filled silique than did plants growing close to conspecific neighbors. Such density-dependent reproductive success could help explain the maintanence of spatial patchiness in plant populations, and could also have implications for population dynamics of rare species.  相似文献

We used field-collected seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana (Brassicaceae) to simulate a colonization event of plants from diverse locations into a common environment to compare regionally "local" and "foreign" populations of this historically mobile species. Life history varied among regional groups, but most variation was found among populations within regions. While we found significant differences among populations and regional groups for important life-history characters, we did not find significant differences in performance of plants from different populations or regional groups. Rather, we found evidence that differences in life history contributed to the ability of plants from foreign regions to perform comparably to local Kentucky plants. Had plants from different regions not differed in the timing and size of reproduction, we would have seen that Kentucky (local) plants had higher total fitness via greater reproductive success of individuals that survived to reproduce and that Michigan plants would have had the lowest fitness. The populations are comparably adapted to the environment in Kentucky but through different combinations of life-history characters. Therefore, the life-history variation in this mobile species appears to contribute not to fitness differences among populations but rather to success in colonizing new locations.  相似文献

In this study, the differences in zinc (Zn) and nickel (Ni) hyperaccumulation were investigated between three populations of Thlaspi pindicum together with genetic variation within populations of T. pindicum and Thlaspi alpinum var. sylvium, both serpentine endemics. Three experiments were conducted under standard conditions in hydroponic assay. Each experiment contained three treatments of metal: 100 microm Zn, 100 microm Ni, and combined 100/100 microm Zn/Ni. Genetic variation within populations was determined using maternal families. No genetic variation within populations was found for either Zn or Ni hyperaccumulation for both T. pindicum and T. alpinum var. sylvium, but differences were observed for both Zn and Ni hyperaccumulation between populations of T. pindicum. In combined Zn/Ni treatments, Zn inhibited Ni translocation in both species, which is unexpected considering that these species are serpentine endemics and well known Ni hyperaccumulators. The lack of genetic variation for metal hyperaccumulation is possibly due to inbreeding. Since Zn hyperaccumulation is not manifested in the field, inadvertent uptake of Zn is a plausible hypothesis for its preferential uptake.  相似文献

Twenty-one highly variable microsatellite loci were used to investigate the genetic diversity and variation of Odontobutis potamophila in China. A total of 160 samples from five wild populations (Dangtu, Sheyang, Yuyao, Minjiang and Donxishan) were genotyped. All of the 21 microsatellite loci tested in this study showed polymorphism. The number of allele per locus ranged from 5.05 to 9.90. Locus 87a of Minjiang population had a 259-bp characteristic allele. The average observed heterozygosity and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.33 to 0.62 and from 0.40 to 0.70, respectively. The pair-wise FST tests and NJ trees of the five O. potamophlia populations revealed that Dangtu, Sheyang, Yuyao and Dongxishan were genetically close to one another and distinct from Minjiang. Far genetic distances were observed among populations from distant geographical areas. This result provided guide for the use of O. potamophila breeds and the protection of the species.  相似文献

利用12个微卫星标记, 对来自长江水系(邗江、吴江、九江、石首、木洞和万州)、珠江水系(肇庆)和黑龙江水系(嫩江)的8个草鱼野生地理群体进行了遗传多样性及遗传结构等分析。遗传多样性分析显示, 12个微卫星位点均为高度多态位点(PIC=0.755~0.930), 8个草鱼野生群体显示出较高的遗传多样性水平(Ho=0.839~0.893), 其中长江水系的6个群体和肇庆群体的多样性水平高于嫩江群体。瓶颈效应分析显示, 嫩江、肇庆群体及2个长江上游群体(木洞、万州)近期出现了瓶颈效应, 群体数量发生下降。群体间遗传分化指数FST及AMOVA分析显示, 群体间出现极显著遗传分化(P<0.01), 整体分化水平较低(FST<0.05)。遗传距离分析结果显示, 长江水系的6个群体与肇庆群体遗传距离较近, 与嫩江群体较远; 基于此的UPGMA聚类树显示, 长江水系下游、中游和上游的群体依次聚类, 然后与肇庆群体聚类, 最后与嫩江群体聚类, 遗传距离与地理距离呈现出较强的正相关性。遗传结构分析显示, 所有样本被划分为5个理论群, 肇庆和嫩江群体中个体的遗传结构相对独立, 而长江上游、中游和下游群体中个体的遗传结构则存在一定程度的混杂。综上所述, 中国草鱼野生资源具有较高的遗传多样性, 地理群体间存在遗传分化, 具有进一步遗传改良的潜力; 但部分群体出现的瓶颈效应也需要引起重视。  相似文献

133 individual plants representing seven tetraploid populations of Dactytis glomerata were examined for their flavonoid pattern by using HPLC. The chemical results expressed quantitatively as peak heights were submitted to multivariate analysis. This data treatment suggested an obvious discrimination between Eurasian and Mediterranean types, lending support to the taxonomic status of the species. This segregation is based on the distribution of C-glycosylluteolins and methylated derivatives. Moreover among the Mediterranean collections, a Coraica population was conspicuously separated from the other three in regard to the distributionof di-C-glycosylflavones. This chemical approach was compared with an electrophoretic assay concerning seven enzyme systems; their respective conclusions were in good agreement.  相似文献

Morphometric variation of 17 wild troutpopulations of the genus Oncorhynchusfrom northwestern Mexico was analyzed.We used 25 standardized morphometric characters following a box truss protocol. In thediscriminant function analysis (DFA) of theexamined specimens (n = 214), grouped bydrainage, the canonical root 1 explained 88.1%of the total variation. Sixteen linearcharacters allow distinguishing O. mykissnelsoni (Sierra San Pedro Mártir [SSPM])from O. chrysogaster and O. mykisssspp. (Sierra Madre Occidental [SMO]). Twodistinctive groups of populations wererecognized on the basis of the squaredMahalanobis' distances, one for the SSPM (O. m. nelsoni) and the other for the SMO. Thelatter group is divided into four subgroups:(1) O. chrysogaster (Río Fuerte andRío Culiacán) and O. mykiss ssp.(Río Piaxtla); (2) O. mykiss sspp.(Río San Lorenzo, Río Baluarte, andRío Acaponeta); (3) O. mykiss sspp.(Río Yaqui and Río Mayo); and (4) O. chrysogaster (Río Sinaloa). In the DFAamong populations within each taxon, thecanonical variable 1 accounted for 41.8% ofthe total variation for O. m. nelsoni,59.4% for O. chrysogaster, and 43.8%for O. m. sspp.  相似文献

用31个可重复性好的随机引物对中华绒螯蟹(Eriocheir sinensis)的辽河、瓯江和长江种群进行了RAPD分析。121个扩增片段中有27个多态片段。遗传距离指数(D)表明中华绒螯蟹种内遗传变异较低(D=0.004~0.063)。3个种群中,辽河种群(D=0.018)和瓯江种群(D=0.025)遗传变异较高,而长江种群遗传变异较低(D=0.013);辽河种群和瓯江种群间遗传距离(D=0.023)小于它们与长江种群间的遗传距离(D值分别为0.028和0.032)。提示人类经济活动可能已使这2个种群发生了基因交流。  相似文献

Temporal changes in allele frequencies were studied in host-associated populations of the small ermine moth Yponomeuta padellus. At one site, populations from three host plants (Sorbus aucuparia, Amelanchier larnarckii , and Crataegus spp.) were sampled annually during a four-year-period and analysed with 20 polymorphic allozyme markers. At two other sites, allele frequencies at 5- 6 enzyme loci of Y. padellus populations from two different host plants were also tested for consistency over a 13-year-pcriod. Significant allele frequency changes occurred in the short-term analysis, whereas allele frequencies remained relatively stable through time in the long-term analyses. Furthermore, allele frequencies of Y. padellus populations from Crataegus spp. were relatively stable compared to the other host populations. The role of the agents responsible for the observed patterns is discussed.  相似文献
