Epithelial and cuticular linings of the stomach investigated in three species representing different genera of the Mysidacea are elaborated into a set of structural specializations dividing the stomach longitudinally into one dorsal and two ventral channels. The dorsal, or food, channel contains ingested food and retains coarse particles, which eventually are transported into the midgut through a funnel. The ventral, or filtration, channels, which are separated by an anterior and a posterior median ridge (anteromedianum, inferomedianum), contain fine particles and soluble materials extracted from the dorsal channel through two filter systems: primary filters, which lie anteriorly on either side of the anteromedianum, and posterior secondary filters, which are located on the inferomedianum. The final filtrate is transported into the ventral caeca or midgut glands. The ultrastructure of the cuticle lining the lumen of the stomach shows several specializations, the most prominent of which are stout spines and delicate filter devices. The epithelium is multilayered in circumscribed areas (the lateralia). The basement lamina is extremely developed in the inferomedianum. Detailed knowledge of the microscopic anatomy and the ultrastructure of the stomach allows identification of several homologous gastric structures among different peracaridean groups and in Decapoda.  相似文献

Summary Microscopic anatomy, functional morphology, and ultrastructure of the stomach of the antarctic krill Euphausia superba Dana were investigated by means of serial sections, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and video technique. A separation of the stomach into an anterior part, called cardia, and a posterior part, called pylorus, became evident. Protrusions of the stomach into the midgut form the third region, called the funnel. The interior of the cardia is dominated by the two lateralia, originating from the side walls of the stomach. At their undersurface, they bear the primary filter. It separates the dorsal food channel from the ventral filtration channel, which is divided into two channels by a ventromedian ridge, the anteromedianum. Within the pylorus, the inferolateralia act in sealing the food channel from the filtration channel. In contrast to many other Malacostraca, the inferomedianum bears no secondary filter. During live observations, the stomach of Euphausia superba shows distinct pumping phases. A comparison of the structure of the stomach with data obtained from other Crustacea will lead to a better understanding about the relationships between the Malacostraca.  相似文献

Mandibles and stomachs of three Antarctic shrimp species (Nematocarcinus lanceopes, Notocrangon antarcticus, and Chorismus antarcticus) were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy. Transmission electron microscopy of the midgut glands was applied to find out the nutritional status of the animals, which contained a broad variety of food items in their stomachs. In contrast to the Antarctic krill, the three carideans possess a dual filter system; primary filters in the cardia and secondary filters in the pyloric chamber. Morphologically, the mandibles and stomachs of the three species vary considerably; however, their food items are similar. We conclude that stomach contents do not really reflect the different modes of life or habitat preferences of the investigated species.  相似文献

Corophium volutator Pallas is a small amphipod crustacean which burrows in inter-tidal mud on the British coast, and feeds on organic detritus, mainly vegetable, by selecting particles from the mud.
The alimentary canal consists of foregut, midgut and hindgut. The midgut is produced into a pair of anterior dorsal caeca, a pair of ventral caeca and a pair of posterior dorsal caeca.
The cardiac stomach has a large number of chitinous plates or ridges beset with hooks and spines for the trituration of food.
The pyloric stomach has long fine bristles which form an eifective filter apparatus and allow only fine particles of food to pass into the midgut, where they are digested and absorbed.

The pattern of digestion in females of Myobia murismusculi was studied with light and electron microscopy. The midgut consists of a stomach and two pairs of blind caeca. The stomach is connected dorsoposteriorly with the excretory organ, that leads externally to an anal opening via the cuticle-lined rectum. No differences were found between the stomach and its caeca. The midgut epithelial cells are of a single type. Their fine structure and gut contents greatly vary depending on different physiological conditions of the mite. Four stages of digestion can be shown with electron microscope. Pino- and phagocytose takes place in the same cells. At an active stage of digestion numerous pinocytic canals were observed in the midgut cells. At each stage of the digestive cycle groups of flat cells are present in the midgut epithelium. They do not take part in the intracellular digestion of food material. Cytoplasmic processes from the underlying cells of coxal glands project into the midgut cells through the orifices in the gut basal lamina.  相似文献

The digestive tract of the freshwater amphipod Hyalella azteca is a straight but differentiated tube consisting of foregut, midgut, and hindgut divisions. The foregut is subdivided into a tubular esophagus, a cardiac stomach, and a pyloric stomach. The cuticular lining of the cardiac stomach is elaborated into a set of food-crushing plates and ossicles, the gastric mill, while the pyloric cuticle forms a complex straining and pressing mechanism. Nine caeca arise from the midgut, seven anteriorly and two posteriorly. Four of the anterior caeca, the hepatopancreatic caeca, are believed to be the primary sites of digestion and absorption. The remaining caeca may be absorptive, secretory, or both. The much-folded hindgut wall is capable of great distention by extrinsic muscle action for water intake to aid in flushing fecal material out of the anus; such action also may stimulate antiperistalsis by intrinsic rectal muscles.  相似文献

Spelaeogriphacea and Mictacea are enigmatic taxa within malacostracan crustaceans that play a pivotal role in peracarid phylogeny. Anatomical data on both taxa that are suitable for use in cladistic analyses are still scarce. Here, we provide for the first time detailed three-dimensional information on the major organ systems of Spelaeogriphacea and Mictacea (the circulatory system, the digestive system, and the central nervous system) using semithin sections in combination with computer aided three-dimensional reconstruction techniques. The digestive system in both Spelaeogriphus lepidops and Mictocaris halope is made up of a short oesophagus leading to a voluminous stomach chamber. Posteriorly, a pylorus is attached to the stomach chamber. An antechamber of the midgut glands is situated at the transition into the midgut, from which up to four tubular midgut glands emanate. The midgut is a straight tube running through the body terminating in a short hindgut. The central nervous system in the cephalothorax is made up of a brain and a suboesophageal ganglion. Both species show some reduction of the protocerebrum caused by the lack of eyes. The circulatory system is made up of a tubular heart that is situated in the thorax. It is equipped with two pairs of incurrent ostia in S. lepidops and one pair in M. halope . The only artery leading off the heart is the anterior aorta, which runs into the cephalothorax. A dilation is formed between the brain and the anterior stomach wall, into which oesophageal dilator muscles are internalized. The midgut of C. (G.) truncata accounts for half of the postgastric intestinal tract. The paired anterior midgut caeca arise just behind the pyloric stomach, on either side of the midgut. The unpaired posterior midgut caecum arises dorsally at the rear end of the midgut, where this joins the hindgut. The midgut and its caeca help in the digestive absorption of food. The hindgut is of ectodermal origin and is lined with chitin of a collagenous nature. The connective tissue of the anterior part of the hindgut is packed with tegumental glands whose secretion contains both sulphated and weakly acidic mucosubstances, which facilitate the passage of faecal matter and help to bind food particles. The digestive gland - the hepatopancreas - opens into the anterior part of the midgut, below the anterior midgut caeca. Histologically, its tubules contain three different types of cells - "F", "R" and "B" cells.  相似文献

The midgut of adultRhynchosciara americana Wiedemann (Diptera: Sciaridae) displays, in contrast to the midguts of other adult Diptera, two caeca connected to a ventriculus. All midgut cells exhibit long apical microvilli, and narrow and ramified basal channels with openings to the underlying space. These morphological features are thought to be involved in the absorption of nutrients from food. Enzymatic assays inR. americana adults revealed that amylase occurs in salivary glands and midgut, whereas aminopeptidase, α-glucosidases and trypsin occur only in the midgut, mainly in the ventriculus. There is a soluble (Mr 105000) and a membrane-bound aminopeptidase (solubilized form, Mr 110000). Soluble α-glucosidase inactivates easily and could not be characterized, whereas membrane-bound α-glucosidases were resolved after solubilization into three molecular species (Mr 186000, 105000 and 84000) with different substrate specificities. The activities of trypsin (pH optimum 9.0), which was inhibited completely by soybean trypsin inhibitor, and of amylase (pH optimum 5.5), were not sufficiently high to be further characterized. The data support the assertion thatR. americana adults are able, to a limited extent, to digest and absorb starch and proteins, in addition to nectar sugars. The results, supported by published data, suggest that there is an inverse correlation between the digestive enzyme activities and midgut absorptive surface in insects which has nectar as a major food.  相似文献

Summary From the micromorphological viewpoint, the stomach is by far the most complicated part of the digestive tract of Porcellio scaber. All parts are shown in electron micrographs. The simplest inner surface of the stomach is the dorsal part, which has an unpaired flap directed posteriorly (lamella dorsalis). The lateral walls carry the lateralia, superolateralia and lamellae annulares. The most complicated region of the stomach is the ventral surface with its anterior primary filter, the adjacent masticatory areas, the posterior secondary filter on the lateral sides of the inferomedianum and the inferolateralia. Ingested food can be filtered twice: first on the primary filter and then on the secondary filter. The digestive fluid secreted in the midgut glands can be conveyed on the same route as the filtrate of the gastric juice, but in the other direction. The posterior part of the stomach is wrapped by a ring-shaped fold of the anterior hindgut, thus making seven epithelia closely apposed to each other.  相似文献

The digestive system of several species of sea spiders (Pycnogonida, Arthropoda) was studied by electron microscopy. It is composed of the foregut inside a long proboscis, a midgut and a hindgut. Lips near the three jaws at the tip of the proboscis receive several hundred ductules originating from salivary glands. These previously undetected glands open on the lips, a fluted, projecting ridge at the external hinge line of the jaws, i.e., to the outside of the mouth. This disposition suggests affinities to the chelicerate line. The trigonal esophagus within the proboscis contains a complex, setose filter device, operated by dedicated muscles, that serves to reduce ingested food to subcellular dimensions. The midgut has diverticula into the bases of all legs. Its cells differentiate from the basal layer and contain a bewildering array of secretion droplets, lysosomes and phagosomes. In the absence of a hepatopancreas, the midgut serves both digestive and absorptive functions. The cuticle-lined hindgut lies in the highly reduced, peg-like abdomen. Traditionally, pycnogonids have been claimed to have no excretory organ at all. Such a structure, however, has been located in at least one ammotheid, Nymphopsis spinosissima, in which a simple, but standard, excretory gland has been found in the scape of the chelifore. It consists of an end sac, a straight proximal tubule, a short distal tubule, and a raised nephropore. The end sac is a thin-walled and polygonal chamber, about 150 microm in cross section, suspended in the hemocoel of the appendage, its edges radially tethered to the cuticle at more than half a dozen locations. This wall consists of a filtration basement membrane, 1-4 microm thick, facing the hemocoel, and internally of a continuous carpet of podocytes and their pedicels. The podocytes, measuring maximally 10 by 15 microm, have complex contents, of which a labyrinthine system of connected intracellular channels stands out. These coated cisternae open into a central vacuole that often rivals the nucleus in size. The design of the organ closely approximates that of the primitive crustacean Hutchinsoniella macracantha.  相似文献

The functional morphology of the alimentary canal of copepodite and chalimus stages of Lepeophtheirus salmonis (Krøyer, 1837) is described and compared with that found in other copepods studied to date.
The buccal cavity passes into a gut comprising three major regions: foregut (oesophagus), midgut and hindgut. The foregut and hindgut both posscss a cuticular lining whereas the midgut is lined with specialized epithelial cells. The midgut is divided into three recognizable zones, namely anterior midgut caecum, anterior midgut and posterior midgut. Three main types of epithelial cell are recognizable in the midgut: vesicular cells, microvillous cells and basal cells which correspond to the cell types normally described in other parasitic and free-living copepod species.
Digestion is thought to occur in the midgut and be mediated by the epithelial cells that line it. Although several glands appear to discharge into the area of the buccal cavity, none was seen to interface to any other area of the gut. There was no evidence for the involvement of commensal gut bacteria in food digestion.  相似文献

A laboratory experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that leaf processing by Japanese crayfish (Cambaroides japonicus de Haan) enhances the growth and reduces the mortality of collector amphipods (Sternomoera yezoensis Ueno) through fine particulate organic matter (FPOM) production. Two treatments (crayfish shredding, no shredding control) were established using flow-through artificial streams and permitting differential FPOM production rates. An amphipod enclosure, associated with juvenile amphipods and preconditioned leaf packs, was placed at the downstream end of each channel. During a 4-week period, shredding by crayfish greatly increased the amount of drifting FPOM compared to that in the control channels, in which only shredder-independent FPOM occurred. Despite the substantial contribution of crayfish to FPOM production, amphipods in both treatments grew during the 4-week period and neither amphipod survival nor growth differed between the two treatments. Furthermore, the residual leaf mass in the amphipod enclosures did not differ between the two treatments. However, residual leaf mass in amphipod enclosures was about 20% less than that expected from the processing rates of the leaf packs in the absence of invertebrate shredding. It is likely that amphipods were directly utilizing leaf packs as their food source regardless of FPOM abundance. These results indicate that juvenile amphipods, despite their classification as collectors, were plastic in their foraging habits, and that the FPOM produced by crayfish was not critical for amphipod growth or survivorship.  相似文献

The family of two-pore domain potassium (K2P) channels is important in setting and controlling the background potassium current of excitable cells. This study examines the localisation of the acid-sensitive channel, K2P9.1 (TASK3), in cells of the gastric mucosa. We observed K2P9.1 immunoreactivity in endocrine cells of the mucosal glands of the guinea-pig, rat and mouse but the channels were not detected in parietal, chief, or mucous cells. K2P9.1 channel immunoreactivity was consistently co-localised with histidine decarboxylase immunopositive enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells, and with the majority of ghrelin immunoreactive X/A cells. Localisation in somatostatin immunoreactive D cells was rare in the guinea-pig, and did not occur in the stomach of rat, but, in the mouse, K2P9.1 channels were observed in the majority of somatostatin-immunoreactive D cells. Conversely, sections taken from the guinea-pig and mouse stomachs, but not rat stomach, revealed K2P9.1 in gastrin-containing G cells. These results demonstrate the presence of K2P9.1 channels in the entero-endocrine ECL, G and D cell populations of the stomach that regulate acid secretion through the release of histamine, gastrin and somatostatin. K2P9.1 channels were located in the ghrelin X/A cells that regulate food intake.  相似文献

The morphology of the oesophagus and stomach has been studied in several species of Tursiops, Delphinus and Stenella and correlated with the histological and ultrastructural characteristics of each region. The oesophagus opens into a saccular forestomach, lined by stratified squamous epithelium. A narrow opening leads into a globular main stomach with a plicated glandular mucous membrane possessing mucous, parietal and chief cells. The main stomach communicates with pyloric stomach by a narrow connecting channel possessing sphincteric constrictions. Variations in the connecting channel have been found in the species examined. The mucosae of the channel and the pyloric stomach are similar and contain typical pyloric glands. Argentaffin cells are present. The cytological and other characteristics of the component chambers have been interpreted in relation to feeding habits and digestion in dolphins.  相似文献

Representative species, two from each of the cockroach families Blattidae, Blattellidae, and Blaberidae, have similar morphology of the digestive tract but differ in the physiology of digestion. The pH of crop and along the midgut varies in different species from 5.9 to 9.0 and the redox parameter from 10.1 to 12.9. Activities of proteinases and amylases in comparable gut regions differ among the species up to 100 times. Proteolytic activity is high in the midgut and moderate in the crop of Blattidae; in the other species, it is very low in the crop and increases to a moderate level in the posterior half of midgut (PM). The level of amylolytic activity is similar in the examined gut compartments of Blattidae and Blattellidae but low in the PM of Blaberidae. Blaberidae are also characterized by a high potential of the salivary glands, crop, and midgut to inhibit subtilisin, trypsin, and chymotrypsin. Inhibition of these proteinases by the extracts of salivary glands and gut is several orders of magnitude lower and often undetectable in the representatives of Blattidae and Blattellidae.  相似文献

The digestive system of teleost shows remarkable functional and morphological diversity. In this study, the digestive tract and accessory organs of dourado Salminus brasiliensis are characterized using anatomical, histological, histochemical and immunohistochemical analyses. The existence of taste buds bordered by microridges in the oesophagus of dourado was recorded for the first time, thus showing that the species drives food intake by either swallowing or rejecting the food item. The Y-shaped stomach of dourado consisted of cardiac, cecal and pyloric regions with tubular gastric glands registered solely in the cardiac and cecal segments. The intestine is a short N-shaped tube with two loops, an intestinal coefficient of 0.73. The structure of pyloric caeca is similar to that of the intestine wall, comprising tunica mucosa, tela submucosa, tunica muscularis and tunica serosa layers. Histochemical analyses revealed an increased incidence of goblet cells from the midgut to the hindgut segment. A well-developed enteric plexus of scattered nerve cell and fibres are found along the digestive tract, and the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) immunoreactive neurons and fibres were identified in the myenteric plexus from the oesophagus to the hindgut. The exocrine pancreas appears diffuse in the mesentery around the stomach, intestine and also reaches the liver, and the endocrine pancreas is organized as a few islets of Langerhans. The liver comprises three distinct, asymmetric lobes, and the portal triad arrangement was registered in this tissue.  相似文献

In the present study, we investigate the effects of food quality (with three distinct algal diets) and quantity (high vs. low carbon and nitrogen contents) and competition (with natural polychaete competitor, Marenzelleria spp) on the semelparous amphipod Monoporeia affinis fitness and reproduction. Contrary to other studies on this species, our results showed that amphipod females have the ability to adjust their offspring investment when conditions were significantly altered before mating in terms of food quantity, while food quality was of less importance. In fact, there was only a low beneficial effect on amphipod reproduction and embryonic development of a presumed high quality diatom diet. Also, the presence of a natural competitor did not affect amphipod reproductive outcome. The results are viewed in the context of a dramatic decline observed on the amphipod populations in the Gulf of Bothnia. Though, several plausible hypotheses have been suggested for the decline, including competition, new anthropogenic substances, hypoxia and predation, we hypothesize that the population decline is related to food shortage and malnutrition due to an increased percentage low quality terrestrial carbon (rich in humus) from river outflow into the Gulf of Bothnia. Concomitantly, the bacterial food web was enhanced, which has a lower trophic efficiency. We also suggest that a secondary effect of malnutrition is an increased susceptibility to other types of stressors such as contaminants and parasites.  相似文献

Summary The giant Antarctic paranthurid Accalathura gigantissima Kussakin (Crustacea, Isopoda) is adapted towards the predation of amphipods, which are pierced and sucked out by means of specialized mouthparts. Oesophagus and stomach pump the food first into the highly dilatable hindgut, later the chyme is transported into the digestive glands, whereby larger particles are retained in the intestine by the filters of the stomach. The ultrastructure of the hindgut shows the features of a transporting epithelium, no indications for secretion of digestive enzymes, intracellular digestion or storage of lipids or glycogen could be found. The digestive glands have very active cells which are responsible for resorption and secretion, intracellular digestion and storage of lipids (probably triglycerides). Lipids are metabolized and transported without the presence of SER, which is replaced by RER. Adipose tissue is present between muscles and forms laterally and ventrally a hypodermal fat body that can be rather voluminous in female specimens. The adipocytes of the studied immature females contained besides lipids and glycogen a large number of electron-dense granula probably composed of lipoproteins, which might be precursors of yolk material.  相似文献

Voltage-dependent calcium channels are vital to cardiac muscle contraction. Therefore it is very important to isolate physiologically active channel proteins, however there have been few reports on their solubilization and reconstitution. Highly purified sarcolemmal membranes from bovine cardiac muscle were solubilized with octylglucoside, partially purified by gel filtration, and reconstituted into planar lipid bilayer by the direct insertion method. At least, two cation channel activities were observed: one with about 4.2 pS and the other with about 28 pS in conductance. From the reversal potential, it was concluded that Ba2+ ions are the current carrier through these two channels.  相似文献
