Reports of Cryptosporidium in various hosts and cross-transmission experiments are reviewed. Cryptosporidium has been found in mammals (Primates, Artiodactyla, Perissodactyla, Carnivora, Lagomorpha, and Rodentia), birds, reptiles, and fish. The only cross-transmission attempts that have been made have been from mammals to other mammals and to a few birds. Names have been given to 19 “species,” but it is concluded that only four of these should be considered valid at present. These are: C. muris Tyzzer, 1907 in mammals, C. meleagridis Slavin, 1955 in birds, C. crotali Triffit, 1925 in reptiles, and C. nasorum Hoover, Hoerr, Carlton, Hinsman & Ferguson, 1981 in fish.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS The following new taxa of septate gregarines are established: METAMERIDAE fam. nov. includes genera Metamera Duke, Deutomera Bhatia & Setna, and Cognettia gen. n., the last with the type and only species C. legeri (Cognetti de Martiis); family GREGARINIDAE Labbé includes Degiustia gen. n. with the type and only species D. hyallela (Batten & DeGiusti); Cirrigregarina gen. n., with the type species C. spissa (Henry) and another species, C. kamenote (Hoshide); and Molluskocystis gen. n., with the type and only species M. pterotracheae (Stuart). Family HIRMOCYSTIDAE (Grassé) includes Arachnocystis gen. n., with the type species A. arachnoidea (Devdhar & Gourishankar) and 3 other species A. nitida (Geus), A. oribatidae (Geus), A. scutovertexi (Erhardová). Goussia carpelli was found parasitizing the intestine and gall bladder of Cyprinus carpio, Carassius carassius and Barbus barbus bocagei, and less frequently Leuciscus cephalus cabeda and Chondrostoma polylepis, from the Esla River. The coccidian is described and data on its prevalence, intensity and pathogenicity are given. In histological sections, the oocysts were detected in the lamina propria or submucosa. We did not observe a clear seasonal pattern nor an influence of the host sex on the infections. On the contrary, there was a tendency to a decrease in the prevalence with the age of the host.  相似文献

The taxonomy of Sarcocystis (Protozoa, Apicomplexa) species   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The taxonomy of the heteroxenous apicomplexan protozoan genus Sarcocystis was reviewed, and a list of 122 species with their synonyms and hosts given. Both definitive and intermediate hosts are known for only 56 species. The fine structure of the sarcocyst wall may change with age and is not considered necessarily satisfactory for separating species. Specificity for the intermediate host is not narrow for all species. Earlier work on transmission of the parasite from one intermediate host to another should be repeated in the light of present knowledge of the life cycle of species of Sarcocystis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Goussia girellae n. sp. is described from the opaleye fish, Girella nigricans. Merogonic stages were observed in the apices of intestinal epithelial cells, in the lamina propria, and in extra-intestinal sites including liver, gills, and spleen. Gamonts were observed in the intestinal epithelial cells. Only unsporulated oocysts were detected in the intestine, and sporulation occurred when feces containing oocysts were incubated for 48 h in seawater at 21°C. Oocysts are elongated (24.8 × 14.7 μm) with a wall about 200 nm thick and have no residuum, micropyle, or polar granule. Sporocysts are ellipsoid (8.5 × 4.5 μm), have a thin two-layered wall approximately 30 nm thick, and consist of two valves joined by a suture. Although moribund opaleye were also infected with Gyrodactylus sp., Cryptobia sp., Cardicola sp., and epitheliocystis organisms (chlamydia), all fish were heavily infected with G. girellae and morbidity was thus attributed to the coccidium.  相似文献

The nomenclature of three genera in the family Haemogregarinidae (Haemogregarina, Karyolysus, and Hepatozoon) has been reviewed and the following new names are introduced to replace homonyms or for previously unnamed species: Haemogregarina carlosi n. nom., in the erythrocytes of the lizard Lacerta ocellata; Haemogregarina tincae n. nom., in the stomach and intestine of the tench Tinca tinca; Hepatozoon insectivorae n. sp., in the leucocytes of the shrews Sorex araneus and Crocidura leucodon; Hepatozoon krampitzi n. sp., in the leucocytes of the vole Microtus oeconomus; Hepatozoon peromysci n. sp., in the leucocytes of the deermice Peromyscus boylii and P. truei gilberti; and Hepatozoon pallida (Pessoa et al., 1971) n. comb., in the erythrocytes of the snake Thamnodynastes pallidus nattereri.  相似文献

Pulmonate and prosobranch gastropods collected in Minnesota and Washington were examined for the presence of coccidian parasites. Typical coccidian oocysts were recovered from the feces of 89 of 543 (16%) pulmonate snails representing the families Lymnaeidae, Physidae, Planorbidae, and Succineidae. No coccidial infections were apparent in 104 specimens representing the prosobranch families Viviparidae and Pleuroceridae. Oocysts identified as Pfeifferinella ellipsoides were recovered from 21 of 101 (21%) Stagnicola elodes, 2 of 94 (2%) Physa gyrina, and 4 of 67 (6%) Aplexa hypnorum although incidence of infection differed greatly (2–40%) dependent upon the locality sample. This coccidian has not been described previously from North America and is reported here from members of the families Lymnaeidae and Physidae for the first time. Twenty percent of Oxyloma retusa from one habitat were shedding oocysts slightly smaller than, but otherwise identical with, those of Alveocystis gugleri. A third as yet unidentified oocyst was recovered from up to 54% of Helisoma trivolvis. As a group, the coccidia of pulmonate molluscs have been poorly studied. The findings of this survey, however, suggest that these parasites may be more common and widely distributed in both the Basommatophora and Stylommatophora than previously believed.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. The gregarine order Archigregarinorida is redefined. The new family Selenidioididae is established in it, containing the genera Selenidioides n. g. with 11 species, Meroselenidium with 1 and Merogregarina with 1. The new family Exoschizonidae is also established in it, with 1 genus, Exoschizon, containing 1 species. The family Selenidiidae is transferred to the order Eugregarinorida in a new superfamily, Lecudinicae, and redefined to exclude the presence of merogony. As redefined, the family Selenidiidae contains the genera Selenidium with 33 species, Selenocystis with 1 and Ditrypanocystis with 2. The following new species are named: Selenidioides fanthami, S. hawesi, Selenidium mackinnonae, S. martinensis, S. rayi, Ditrypanocystis coxi. The following new combinations are introduced: Selenidioides axiferens, S. caulleryi, S. giganteum, S. hollandei, S. intraepitheliale, S. mesnili, S. metchnikovi, S. potamillae, S. sipunculi, Selenidium synaptae. In addition, the septate form from Cirratulus cirratus that was named Polyrhabdina cirratulus by Bogolepova (2) is renamed P. bogolepovae n. sp.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of Goussia janae and Choleoeimeria sp. were analyzed using the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene (SSU rDNA). This is a first attempt to study the molecular phylogeny of coccidian genera parasitizing strictly poikilotherm hosts. The biliary Eimeria-like coccidia of reptiles classified into the genus Choleoeimeria form a sister clade to the family Eimeriidae, which confirms the separate generic status of the genus Choleoeimeria. The position of Goussia is less robustly resolved, since it forms a trichotomy with the Eimeriidae and Sarcocystidae, or alternatively constitutes the earliest branch of the coccidian lineage. Morphological similarities, namely the extracytoplasmic location of the endogenous stages, and the presence of sutures in the sporocyst wall are discussed in the context of the traditional classification of eimeriids. In contrast to the morphology-based systematics, the monophyly of Goussia and Choleoeimeria is not supported by the SSU rDNA data.  相似文献

A total of 169 cross-transmission attempts has been made with 44 (11.8%) of the 372 named species of Eimeria of rodents. Of these, 161 were rodent-to-rodent, 6 rodent-to-lagomorph, and 1 each rodent-to-carnivore and rodent-to-bird. None of the last three categories was successful. In the rodent-to-rodent combinations, 39 (80%) of the 49 attempts to transmit a coccidian species from one rodent species to another of the same genus were successful, and only 14 (12.5%) of the 112 attempts to transmit a coccidium to a rodent of a different genus were successful. Eight of the successful attempts were with E. chinchillae, which was the only truly euryxenous species of Eimeria in the group. Two successful attempts were between between the closely related rodent genera Spermophilus and Cynomys, and two were both of E. separata from Rattus norvegicus to some genetic strains but not to others of Mus musculus. One attempt with E. vermiformis from Mus musculus to Rattus norvegicus required treatment of the rat with the immunosuppressant dexamethasone to succeed. More cross-transmission studies are needed to determine the host spectra of the species of Eimeria and other coccidian genera, and to determine the roles of genetics and immunosuppression in their transmission.  相似文献

Calyptospora n. g. was erected for Eimeria funduli because the sporocyst of that species lacks Stieda and sub-Stieda bodies, has a veil supported by sporopodia, and has an anterior apical opening. A suture may be present, but it does not completely divide the sporocyst into two valves. Because C. funduli has an obligatory invertebrate intermediate host, we established Calyptosporidae n. fam. to accommodate Calyptospora and tentatively to accept Goussia. A new subgenus, Plagula, is erected for species of Goussia with a sporocystic veil not supported by sporopodia. We consider the family more primitive than Eimeriidae, Sarcocystidae, and possibly Lankesterellidae.  相似文献

The gregarine Lecudina longissima Hoshide, 1944 is described from the intestine of the marine polychaete Lumbrineris zonata (Johnson, 1901) from Santa Catalina Island, Calif. L. catalinensis n. sp. is described from the intestine of L. inflata Moore, 1911 from the same island. Besnoitia bennetti tissue cysts were found in four naturally-infected donkeys (Equus asinus) from the USA. Infectivity of its bradyzoites and tachyzoites to animals and cell culture was studied. The bradyzoites were not infectious to out-bred Swiss Webster mice, rabbits or gerbils. When fed tissue cysts, cats did not excrete oocysts. However, the parasite was infectious to interferon-gamma gene knock out mice. The parasite from tissues of two donkeys was grown successfully in bovine monocyte monolayers for the first time. Non-dividing, uninucleate tachyzoites were approximately 6 x 1.5 microm in size. Longitudinally-cut bradyzoites in tissue sections measured 8.7 x 1.9 microm. Ultrastructurally, tachyzoites and bradyzoites were similar to those in other Besnoitia species, and in particular to parasites described from cattle (Besnoitia besnoiti) and reindeer (Besnoitia tarandi), in that their bradyzoites lacked enigmatic bodies. Based on comparative analysis of three portions of nuclear ribosomal DNA (the small and large subunits and the first internal transcribed spacer) B. bennetti was found to be more closely related to the other congeners described from ungulates. The parasite was formally redescribed and specimens deposited in the US National Parasite Collections.  相似文献

Besnoitia tarandi tissue cysts were found in naturally-infected reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) from Finland. Infectivity of its tissue cysts, bradyzoites, and tachyzoites to animals and cell culture was studied. The bradyzoites and tissue cysts were not infectious to out-bred mice, rabbits or gerbils. When fed tissue cysts, neither cats nor dogs excreted oocysts. However, the parasite was lethal to interferon-gamma gene knock out mice irrespective of the route of inoculation. The parasite was grown successfully in African Green Monkey cells from tissues of two reindeer for the first time. Non-dividing, uninucleate tachyzoites from smears from cell cultures were 5.6 x 1.4 microm (4.5-7.4 x 1.0-1.9, n=50) in size. Longitudinally-cut bradyzoites in tissue sections measured 7.4 x 1.3 microm (6.5-7.8 x 1.0-1.6, n=30). Ultrastructurally, tachyzoites and bradyzoites were similar to those in other Besnoitia species, and in particular to parasites described from cattle (Besnoitia besnoiti) and equids (Besnoitia bennetti) in that their bradyzoites lacked enigmatic bodies. Based on comparative analysis of three portions of nuclear ribosomal DNA (the small and large subunits and the first internal transcribed spacer) B. tarandi was found to be more closely related to the other congeners described from ungulates. Oöcysts of Goussia chalupskyi n. sp. are described from the faeces of the chub Leuciscus cephalus (Cyprinidae) from Southern Bohemia, Czech Republic. The oöcysts are spherical, 11.0 (10.5–11.5) m in diameter. The sporocysts are broadly oval to subspherical, 7.7 (7.0–8.5) × 5.7 (5.0–6.5) m, with a sporocyst residuum composed of 2–4 granules. Merogonial and gamogonial stages were found in the posterior part of the intestine.  相似文献

All of 18 shrew moles, Neurotrichus gibbsii, collected in Oregon and Washington were infected with one or more species of coccidia. Three eimerians and one isosporan were identified and described as new species. Sporulated oocysts of Eimeria heterocapita n. sp. were subspheroid to ellipsoid, 25.5 times 21.4 (23–27 times 18–23) μm. A membranous, cap-like structure was present at one pole of the oocyst, but a micropyle, oocyst residuum, and polar body were absent. Ovoid sporocysts were 13.6 times 10.0 (12–15 times 9–11) μm; a compact sporocyst residuum was present, but Stieda, sub-, and parastieda bodies were absent. This species was found in 2 of 18 (11%) hosts. Sporulated oocysts of Eimeria neurotrichi n. sp. were avoid, 17.6 times 13.6 (16–20 times 11–16) μm; micropyle and oocyst residuum were absent, but a polar body was present. Ovoid sporocysts were 10.7 times 5.5 (9–12 times 5–6) μm; Stieda body and sporocyst residuum were present, but sub- and parastieda bodies were absent. This species was found in 2 of 18 (11%) hosts. Sporulated oocysts of Eimeria parastiedica n. sp. were subspheroid, 27.4 times 25.5 (25–30 times 22–28) μm; micropyle, oocyst residuum, and polar body were absent. Ovoid sporocysts, pointed at both ends, were 18.3 times 10.4 (16–20 times 9–11) μm; Stieda, sub-, and parastieda bodies were present as was a sporocyst residuum. This species was found in 2 of 18 (11%) hosts. Sporulated oocysts of Isospora neurotrichi n. sp. were subspheroid, 13.9 times 12.0 (11–16 times 10–15) μm; micropyle and oocyst residuum were absent, but 1–3 polar bodies were present. Ellipsoid sporocysts were 9.2 times 6.1 (8–11 times 5–8) μm; sub- and parastieda bodies were absent, but a Stieda body and sporocyst residuum were present. This species was found in 17 of 18 (94%) hosts. Ten of 18 (56%) hosts were seen to be naturally infected with only one coccidium.  相似文献
