Physiological integration may help clonal macrophytes invade or escape from existing communities. No studies have tested the above hypothesis in aquatic plants. In an outdoor pond experiment, we subjected clonal fragments of the submerged macrophyte Vallisneria spiralis L. to heterogeneous environments in which V. spiralis spread from bare habitats towards vegetated habitats occupied by Myriophyllum spicatum L. or V. spiralis spread from vegetated habitats towards bare habitats. V. spiralis stolons between ramets in bare habitats and in vegetated habitats were either intact or severed. We investigated the habitat selection of V. spiralis by examining the allocation of biomass and ramets to heterogeneous habitats during its vegetative spread phase. Results showed that the stolon connection had different effects on the habitat selection of V. spiralis with regard to invasion and escape. When V. spiralis spread from bare to vegetated habitats, in comparison to severing the stolon, the stolon connection eventually facilitated a 49% increase in biomass and a 27% increase in number of ramets allocated to vegetated habitats. However, when V. spiralis spread from vegetated to bare habitats, biomass and ramets allocated to bare habitats were not significantly changed by the stolon connection (only a 5% increase in biomass and a 6% increase in number of ramets). These results indicate that clonal integration facilitated V. spiralis not to escape from but invade into vegetated habitats. The study provides evidence that physiological integration is important for survival and tolerance of ramets in competitively stressful environments and can help clonal macrophytes coexist with other species.  相似文献

遥感技术可应用于大尺度实时监测沉水植物的分布与生长状况。然而沉水植物的光谱特征受其冠层在水下深度的影响,从而影响湖泊和河流中沉水植物的遥感影像解译与信息提取。应用地物光谱仪,通过野外原位测定和室外控制试验,实测了沉水植物水盾草(Cabomba caroliniana)群落冠层在水下不同深度的反射光谱,分析了冠层水深对水盾草反射光谱的影响,并建立了基于光谱反射率和冠层水深的水盾草群落盖度反演模型。研究结果表明(1)不同盖度的水盾草群落光谱反射率的基本特征主要体现在绿光和近红外波段;(2)水盾草群落的光谱反射率与冠层水深基本呈负相关,相同盖度水盾草群落的光谱反射率随冠层水深的增加而减小,在近红外波段尤其明显;(3)水盾草群落冠层水深越小,其盖度与光谱反射率的相关性越强,且水盾草群落盖度越大,其光谱反射率与冠层水深的相关性越显著;(4)水盾草光谱反射率与盖度相关的最佳波段在692—898 nm,与冠层水深相关最佳的波段在710 nm和806 nm附近;(5)在710 nm和806 nm处建立的结合冠层水深的修正模型,无论是回归方程决定系数(R2),还是水盾草群落盖度的反演精度都明显高于仅用光谱反射率反演盖度的简单模型,因此可有效减除冠层水深对反演精度的影响。本研究的结果可为遥感监测沉水植物的分布和动态变化,以及沉水植物生物物理参量反演提供科学依据。  相似文献

Many studies have examined the effects of spatial heterogeneity in light supply on clonal plants in terrestrial environments, but few have examined those in aquatic conditions. In a greenhouse experiment, we grew the rhizomatous submerged macrophyte Vallisneria spiralis L. in containers in three homogeneous light treatments (100%, 65%, and 30% of ambient light coded as high, medium, and low light, respectively) and two heterogeneous ones differing in patch scale (small and large patch). The growth of V. spiralis decreased significantly with decreasing light availability. In the low light conditions, V. spiralis allocated greater biomass to shoots and developed elongated leaves. In the patchy treatments, ramets distributed in the light‐rich patches had significant costs in the large patch treatment, but not in the small patch treatment, while both small and large patch treatments had no significant benefits in the light‐poor patches. We conclude that V. spiralis could escape from adverse habitats and occupy the favorable habitats. Providing the same amount of light, responses of V. spiralis to different patch scales were different at the patch level, but not at the whole clone level. Together, growth of V. spiralis could not benefit from different patch scales in heterogeneous environments at the patch as well as the whole clone level.  相似文献

To explore a method for rapid restoration and artificial regulation of submerged macrophytes in large-scale restoration of eutrophic lakes, the succession and the biodiversity changes of four communities composed of four native, common submerged macrophytes, Hydrilla verticillata, Potamogeton malaianus, Vallisneria spiralis and Najas marina, on two kinds of sediments were investigated. Under low light intensity (reduced by 99%), the plant biomass changed with seasonal changes, plant competition, and environmental stress. The competitive capability for light differed in the four species due to different shoot height and tiller number. After 405 days of transplantation, H. verticillata became dominant in all communities. The biomass of H. verticillata, with strong ability to endure low water light environment, accounted for more than 90% of the total community biomass, and P. malaianus had only weak growth, while V. spiralis and N. marina almost disappeared. Based on livability and biomass of submerged macrophytes on two sediment types, brown clay sediment appeared to be more favorable for the settlement of the plants, while fertile sludge sediment was suitable for vegetative growth. In conclusion, the improvement of habitats and the selection of appropriate plant species are of the greatest importance for ecological restoration of the aquatic ecosystem.  相似文献

Summary Sudden illumination of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L. cv. CGL 208) leaves and canopies led to excess absorbed PFD and induced apparent reflectance changes in the green, red and near-infrared detectable with a remote spectroradiometer. The green shift, centered near 531 nm, was caused by reflectance changes associated with the de-epoxidation of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin via antheraxanthin and with the chloroplast thylakoid pH gradient. The red (685 nm) and near-infrared (738 nm) signals were due to quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence. Remote sensing of shifts in these spectral regions provides non-destructive information on in situ photosynthetic performance and could lead to improved techniques for remote sensing of canopy photosynthesis.CIW Publication #1072  相似文献

The efficiency of vegetation indices (VIs) to estimate the above-ground biomass of the seagrass species Zostera noltii Hornem. from remote sensing was tested experimentally on different substrata, since terrestrial vegetation studies have shown that VIs can be adversely influenced by the spectral properties of soils and background surfaces. Leaves placed on medium sand, fine sand and autoclaved fine sand were incrementally removed, and the spectral reflectance was measured in the 400–900 nm wavelength range. Several VIs were evaluated: ratios using visible and near infrared wavelengths, narrow-band indices, indices based on derivative analysis and continuum removal. Background spectral reflectance was clearly visible in the leaf reflectance spectra, showing marked brightness and spectral contrast variations for the same amount of vegetation. Paradoxically, indices used to minimize soil effects, such as the Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) and the Modified second Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (MSAVI2) showed a high sensitivity to background effects. Similar results were found for the widely used Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and for Pigment Specific Simple Ratios (PSSRs). In fact, background effects were most reduced for VIs integrating a blue band correction, namely the modified specific ratio (mSR(705)), the modified Normalized Difference (mND(705)), and two modified NDVIs proposed in this study. However, these indices showed a faster saturation for high seagrass biomass. The background effects were also substantially reduced using Modified Gaussian Model indices at 620 and 675 nm. The blue band corrected VIs should now be tested for air-borne or satellite remote sensing applications, but some require sensors with a hyperspectral resolution. 在室外受控实验条件下,研究了不同密度(0,150,450个/m2)纹沼螺(Parafossarulus striatulus)对沉水植物苦草(Vallisneria spiralis)生长的影响。结果表明,螺类牧食活动促进了苦草生长,与无螺对照组相比,低密度螺处理组中苦草的相对生长率、株高均增加了20%;高密度组中苦草的相对生长率、叶片数和株高分别增加了28%、15%和27%。分析表明,纹沼螺通过牧食活动降低植物叶片上附着生物干重,从而促进了苦草生长。丰富了螺-草互利关系的研究内容,有助于加深理解水生态系统中生物之间的生态关系。  相似文献

This study investigated the potential of using remote sensing for mapping and monitoring of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) on a large scale. The spectral characteristics of SAV with varied coverage were measured using a portable spectroradiometer on a man-made lake at the Chongming International Wetland Park, Shanghai, China. A good relationship between the coverage of SAV and their field spectral characteristics was established and the reflectance of SAV increased with its increasing coverage. A regression analysis was then carried out between the coverage and the reflectance at the wavelengths of four QuickBird bands. After making an atmospheric correction from a synchronous QuickBird image for the study site, the image digital number (DN) was converted into the ground reflectance. The reflectance image was then deduced into a distribution map of SAV coverage by using the results of the regression functions between the coverage of SAV and the reflectance rate measured in situ. An accuracy assessment indicated that this approach could be used to quickly monitor the distribution and growth situation of SAV. The implications of this observation, in terms of the ability of remote sensing to estimate and monitor the distribution and dynamics of SAV on a large scale are discussed.  相似文献

Through an acclimation period of 10 days, compared to white light, the maximal net photosynthetic rates were significantly higher for gametophytes of Undaria pinnatifida cultivated under blue light (400–500 nm), and were lower under red light (600–700 nm). Chlorophyll c and the carotenoid content of gametophytes were similar under blue light and red light but were much lower under white light. The growth rate of female gametophytes under blue light was higher than that under other lights, and the growth rate of male gametophytes showed little variation with respect to blue and white light. Male and female gametophytes were mixed together to form sporophytes under white, blue and red light. After approximately 5 days, 50% gametophytes became fertile under blue and white light, but remained vegetative under red light after 10 days.  相似文献

1. To test whether clonal macrophytes can select favourable habitats in heterogeneous environments, clonal fragments of the stoloniferous submerged macrophyte Vallisneria spiralis were subjected to conditions in which light intensity and substratum nutrients were patchily distributed. The allocation of biomass accumulation and ramet production of clones to the different patches was examined. 2. The proportion of both biomass and ramet number of clones allocated to rich patches was significantly higher than in poor patches. The greatest values of both clone and leaf biomass were produced in the heterogeneous light treatment, in which clones originally grew from light‐rich to light‐poor patches, while clones produced the most offspring ramets in the treatments with heterogeneous substratum nutrients. Similarly, root biomass had the highest values in nutrient‐rich patches when clones grew from nutrient‐rich to nutrient‐poor patches. 3. The quality of patches in which parent ramets established significantly influenced the foraging pattern. When previously established in rich patches, a higher proportion of biomass was allocated to rich patches, whereas a higher proportion of ramet number was allocated to rich patches when previously established in poor patches. 4. Results demonstrate that the clonal macrophyte V. spiralis can exhibit foraging in submerged heterogeneous environments: when established under resource‐rich conditions V. spiralis remained in favourable patches, whereas if established in adverse conditions it could escape by allocating more ramets to favourable patches.  相似文献

The reproduction of pyrethroid-resistant Varroa destructor mite, a brood parasite of honey bees, was observed in Weslaco, Texas, and the results compared with known susceptible mite populations from other studies. Seven Apis mellifera colonies that had mite populations resistant to the acaricide Apistan were used. Pyrethroid-resistance was confirmed when only 17% rather than 90% of mites confined in dishes containing Apistan died after 12 h of exposure. The average number of eggs laid by resistant mites invading worker and drone cells was 4.4 and 5.4 respectively. This is similar to the number of eggs laid by susceptible mites in worker (4.4–4.8) or drone (4.7–5.5) cells. Also the average number of fertilised V. destructor female mites produced by resistant mites in worker (1.0) and drone (2.1) cells were similar to the number produced by susceptible mites in worker (0.9) and drone (1.9–2.2) cells. In addition, no major differences between the resistant and susceptible mite populations were observed in either worker or drone cells when six different reproductive categories and offspring mortality rates were compared. Therefore, it appears that there is little or no reproductive fitness cost associated with pyrethroid resistance in V. destructor in Texas. Acid phosphatase production by recombinant Arxula adeninivorans was carried out in submerged fermentation. Using the Plackett–Burman design, three fermentation variables (pH, sucrose concentration, and peptone concentration) were identified to significantly affect acid phosphatase and biomass production, and these were optimized using response surface methodology of central composite design. The highest enzyme yields were attained in the medium with 3.9% sucrose and 1.6% peptone at pH 3.8. Because of optimization, 3.86- and 4.19-fold enhancement in enzyme production was achieved in shake flasks (17,054 U g−1 DYB) and laboratory fermenter (18,465 U g−1 DYB), respectively.  相似文献

Almost 95% of the entire population of the Siberian crane (Grus leucogeranus) winter in Poyang Lake, China, where they forage on the tubers of the submerged aquatic macrophyte Vallisneria spiralis. The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River may possibly affect this food source of the Siberian crane by affecting the light intensity reaching the top of the V. spiralis canopy. In this study, the photosynthetically active radiation at the top of the V. spiralis canopy (PARtc) in Lake Dahuchi was modeled from 1998 to 2006, and the potential impacts of changes in water level and turbidity on the underwater light climate of V. spiralis were analyzed. PARtc was calculated from incident irradiance while the losses due to reflection at the water surface, absorption, and scattering within the water column were taken into consideration. The results indicated significant differences in PARtc between years. Six years of water level and Secchi disk depth records revealed a seasonal switching of the lake from a turbid state at low water levels in autumn, winter, and spring to a clear state at high water levels during the monsoon in summer. The highest PARtc occurred at intermediate water levels, which were reached when the Yangtze River forces Lake Dahuchi out of its turbid state in early summer and the water becomes clear. The intended operation of the Three Gorges Dam, which will increase water levels in May and June, may advance the moment when Lake Dahuchi switches from turbid to clear. We suggest that this might increase production of V. spiralis and possibly improve the food habitat conditions for wintering Siberian crane in Poyang Lake.

In order to develop a practical approach for fast and non-destructive assay of total fatty acid (TFA) and pigments in the biomass of the marine microalga Nannochloropsis sp. changes in TFA, chlorophyll, and carotenoid contents were monitored in parallel with the cell suspension absorbance. The experiments were conducted with the cultures grown under normal (complete nutrient f/2 medium at 75 μmol PAR photons/(m2 s)) or stressful (nitrogen-lacking media at 350 μmol PAR photons/(m2 s)) conditions. The reliable measurement of the cell suspension absorbance using a spectrophotometer without integrating sphere was achieved by deposition of cells on glass–fiber filters in the chlorophyll content range of 3–13 mg/L. Under stressful conditions, a 30–50% decline in biomass and chlorophyll, retention of carotenoids and a build-up of TFA (15–45 % of dry weight) were recorded. Spectral regions sensitive to widely ranging changes in carotenoid-to-chlorophyll ratio and correlated changes of TFA content were revealed. Employing the tight inter-correlation of stress-induced changes in lipid metabolism and rearrangement of the pigment apparatus, the spectral indices were constructed for non-destructive assessment of carotenoid-to-chlorophyll ratio (range 0.3–0.6; root mean square error (RMSE) = 0.03; r 2 = 0.93) as well as TFA content of Nannochloropsis sp. biomass (range 5.0–45%; RMSE = 3.23 %; r 2 = 0.89) in the broad band 400–550 nm normalized to that in chlorophyll absorption band (centered at 678 nm). The findings are discussed in the context of real-time monitoring of the TFA accumulation by Nannochloropsis cultures under stressful conditions.  相似文献

Remote sensing as a tool for assessing water quality in Loosdrecht lakes   总被引:3,自引:2,他引:1  
The underwater light field in 7 lakes in the Loosdrecht lake area was measured in situ. Subsurface upwelling irradiance and irradiance reflectance, together with estimations of scattering and laboratory measurements of absorption by aquatic humus and particulate matter, enabled an analysis of the spectral signature of these waters. Aircraft imaging spectrometer measurements of upwelling radiance at 1 km altitude were used to simulate the PMI Chlorophyll #1, the CAESAR Inland Water Mode spectral bandsets and the Thematic Mapper bands 1 to 4. This made it possible to compare the effects of spectral band width and selection on the estimation of water quality parameters. Correlations increased to r > 0.94, at a significance level of 1% for the simulated C-IWM data with the 6 water quality parameters. Images of the PMI Chlorophyll #1 and of the TM were analysed and found to be in accordance with the statistical modelling results.A significant increase in correlation of remote sensing data with water quality parameters can be achieved through the selective use of 10 to 20 nm wide bands in the spectral range of 500 to 720 nm in these eutrophic waters. Sum of chlorophyll a and phaeopigments, seston dry weight, Secchi disc transparency, and coefficients for vertical attenuation of light, absorption and scattering can be estimated accurately. TM image data for water quality assessment is of limited use due to the relatively low spectral and radiometric resolution. Insect cell cultures have been extensively utilised for means of production for heterologous proteins and biopesticides. Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) and Trichoplusia ni (High Five™) cell lines have been widely used for the production of recombinant proteins, thus metabolism of these cell lines have been investigated thoroughly over recent years. The Helicoverpa zea cell line has potential use for the production of a biopesticide, specifically the Helicoverpa armigera single-nucleocapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (HaSNPV). The growth, virus production, nutrient consumption and waste production of this cell line was investigated under serum-free culture conditions, using SF900II and a low cost medium prototype (LCM). The cell growth (growth rates and population doubling time) was comparable in SF900II and LCM, however, lower biomass and cell specific virus yields were obtained in LCM. H. zea cells showed a preference for asparagine over glutamine, similar to the High Five™ cells. Ammonia was accumulated to significantly high levels (16 mM) in SF900II, which is an asparagine and glutamine rich medium. However, given the absence of asparagine and glutamine in the medium (LCM), H. zea cells adapted and grew well in the absence of these substrates and no accumulation of ammonia was observed. The adverse effect of ammonia on H. zea cells is unknown since good production of biologically active HaSNPV was achieved in the presence of high ammonia levels. H. zea cells showed a preference for maltose even given an abundance supply of free glucose. Accumulation of lactate was observed in H. zea cell cultures. Our aim was to refine the optical classification of turbid waters in order to improve the performance of water color algorithms. Bio-optical measurements and sampling of optically active substances were performed in highly turbid lakes Taihu, Chaohu, and Dianchi, and in Three Gorges reservoir in China. Based on strong correlations between trough depths of remote sensing reflectance (R rs(λ)) near 680 nm (denoted as TD680) and the ratios of inorganic suspended matter (ISM) to total suspended matter (TSM) concentrations, an empirical model was developed for water classification. In the 400–900 nm spectral range, different correlations between R rs(λ), TSM and chlorophyll a (Chla) concentrations indicate discrepancies among the following ISM/TSM ranges: ISM/TSM ≤ 0.5, 0.5 < ISM/TSM < 0.8, and ISM/TSM ≥ 0.8. Corresponding findings support an important conclusion that only high ISM/TSM ratios, usually above 0.5, and using the more sensitive and stable near infrared spectral range (730–820 nm), can assure good performances of the TSM remote sensing algorithms. Meanwhile, the particulate absorption a p(λ) and scattering b p(λ) were strongly influenced by different ranges of ISM/TSM ratios. Typically the a p(675) peaks became more and more vague as ISM/TSM increased, and the b p(λ) values first decreased and then increased with a marked inflexion at ISM/TSM ≈ 0.5. The TD680 threshold values were derived to discriminate three types of turbid waters, i.e., Type 1 (TD680 ≥ 0.0082 sr−1), Type 2 (0.0082 sr−1 > TD680 > 0 sr−1), and Type 3 (TD680 ≤ 0 sr−1). This study provides a promising tool for identifying various types of highly turbid waters, and is significant for the development of class-based algorithms of water color remote sensing.  相似文献

以闽江河口鳝鱼滩湿地互花米草(Spartina alterniflora)的实测冠层高光谱反射率和叶片光合色素含量(LPPC)为数据源,在分析LPPC与原始光谱反射率、一阶导数光谱反射率、22种已报道光谱指数和14种新构建的植被指数相关性的基础上,利用直线回归、指数回归、对数回归以及乘幂回归方法,系统地比较了36种植被指数在估算互花米草LPPC中的表现。研究表明:(1)一阶导数光谱反射率组合的植被指数用于估算互花米草的LPPC优于原始光谱反射率;(2)红边区域一阶导数光谱是估测互花米草LPPC的最佳波段;(3)对于单一色素含量的估算,叶绿素a(Chla)的最佳估算指数为FDNDVI[723,703];叶绿素b(Chlb)的最佳估算指数为FDRVI[723,525];类胡萝卜素(Cars)的最佳估算指数为FDNDVI[723,703];(4)对于使用统一参量同时估算Chla、Chlb、Cars,由FDRVI[723,703]建立的对数估算模型效果最佳。研究成果可为湿地植物生化参量反演提供参考,也可为闽江河口湿地入侵种互花米草的动态监测和生态评估管理提供有力的科学依据。  相似文献

Wild-type cmFDH contains no cystines, hence it is a good candidate to test the hypothesis that thermostability can be achieved by introducing new disulphide bridges. Three cysteine double mutants of cmFDH were designed, using a homology model reported previously, to introduce cystine bridges in the C-domain (T169C–T226C) in the N-domain (V88C–V112C) and between the two monomers (M156C–L159C) to form two cystine bridges across the dimer interface. These mutants were constructed and the proteins were over-expressed in E. coli. The mutants V88C–V112C and M156C–L159C lost FDH activity. The mutant T169C–T226C was both less active and less thermostable than wild-type FDH.  相似文献

沉水植物的恢复是改善富营养化水体和重建水生生态系统的有效措施.应用遥感技术可以实时、大面积监测沉水植物的分布和生长情况,而水体中的悬浮物等物质影响沉水植物的光谱特征,直接影响对湖泊、河流遥感影像中沉水植物的准确解译.本研究利用地物光谱仪在室外实测了不同水体悬浮物浓度条件下沉水植物黑藻群落的光谱反射率.结果表明,在400~900nm波段,水体中悬浮物浓度越高,沉水植物的光谱反射率越大.水体悬浮物浓度与黑藻群落光谱反射率在400~900nm均为显著相关(P〈0.05),在450~900nm为极显著相关(P〈0.01).在蓝、绿、红和近红外4个波段,将水体悬浮物浓度与其光谱反射率进行回归分析,均得到了较好的线性关系.利用本研究结果对富含悬浮物水体中沉水植物的反射光谱进行修正,可为准确、快速和大尺度遥感监测沉水植物的分布和动态提供科学依据.  相似文献
