The multiple unit activity (MUA) from clusters of adjacent neurones in deep layers of the frontal and motor cortex was recorded in alert cats with different levels of alimentary motivation. Up to 7 spike trains were selected from the MUA. Neurones in the local circuits could be divided into 2 groups: large neurones with prevailing divergent characteristics, and small neurones with prevailing convergent characteristics. A 24-hour food deprivation altered the cross-correlation interneuronal connections with a time delay within the range of 2 to 100 ms.  相似文献

Sex differences of hemisphere asymmetry of homo- and heterotopic transcallosal responses in association cortex of 48 cats (24 male and 24 female) immobilized by tubocurarine have been studied by means of topographic EPs recordings in both hemispheres. In males left hemisphere dominates by the amplitude of homotopic and positive wave of heterotopic EPs and right hemisphere dominates by the amplitude of negative wave of heterotopic sensorimotor cortex EPs. The individual asymmetry of EPs has been observed in sensomotor cortex of females and in parietal cortex of animals of both sex. The interhemispheric asymmetry is expressed distinctly in females than in males. It is concluded that sex dimorphism is present in functional organization of associative system of (callosal and intracortical) connections in cat's neocortex projection and association areas which means its more expressed hemisphere lateralization in males with more expressed interhemispheric asymmetry of functional transcallosal connections in females.  相似文献

The paper describes bioelectrical correlates of negative emotional states on three models: 1) states caused by local, chronic electric stimulation of negative emotiogenic zones (in cats, rabbits); 2) by a neurogenic stress in rats resulting from a conflict of afferent excitations; 3) by an experimental syndrome--"expectation stress". The data attest that hypersynchronization of bioelectrical activity in limbic and cortical structures is a sufficiently significant correlate of an emotional stress. It is assumed that hypersynchronization reflects one of the general mechanisms of involvement of brain structures in a state of neurogenic stress and its manifestation.  相似文献

The cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5) plays an important role in the proper establishment of neocortical layers. Over the past several years, key molecular targets of Cdk5 have been identified that show intriguing connections to the adhesional and cytoskeletal components of cell movement. This molecular knowledge about Cdk5 signaling has begun to translate into an understanding of how Cdk5 regulates the cellular physiology of neocortical layer formation. Together with recent progress on the signaling relationship between Cdk5 and Reelin, the other key protein involved in neocortical layer formation, and their relationship to migration modes, research on understanding neocortical layer formation has arrived at a most promising crossroad.  相似文献

Neuronal response in the strychninized cortical suprasylvian gyrus was investigated in experiments on immobilized and unanesthetized cats using intracellular techniques. Paroxysmal depolarizing shifts (PDS) in neuronal membrane potential were recorded, consisting of a bursting discharge and slow depolarization wave. It was found when using intracortical stimulation that PDS can accumulate and change in shape and size. Bursting discharges in PDS were induced by large-scale EPSP which could be distinguished from paroxysmal response. Data from presumably intradendritic readings demonstrated the presence of large-scale EPSP during the generation of epileptiform discharges in the cortex. In a proportion of cells, PDS were accompanied by hyperpolarizing potentials — apparently IPSP, since they undergo reversal with intercellular administration of Cl. 在大鼠脊髓背角用细胞外记录技术共记录到32个单位。角叉菜胶一侧足底注射致炎后,电刺激该侧足底内外侧神经激动其中A、C纤维时,脊髓背角神经元诱发放电数均显著增加;静脉注射NMDA受体拮抗剂氯胺酮后,A、C纤维刺激诱发的放电反应均显著下降甚至消失。致炎后脊髓背角深层单位出现Windup现象,静脉注射氯胺酮后该现象减轻消失。结果提示:角叉菜胶致炎导致脊髓背角神经元兴奋性升高和Windup;NMDA受体参  相似文献

Summary Ethylcholine mustard aziridinium ion (AF64A) is a neurotoxin which is specific for cholinergic nerve terminals. Besides its effects on elements of the acetylcholine system, we observed that, after 2 and 8 days, a single 20-nmol intracerebroventricular dose altered the Timm's staining of certain regions of the central nervous system and reduced the tissue levels of trace metals. In the hippocampal formation, there was a considerable decrease in the staining of the neuropil of the stratum radiatum and stratum oriens, which contain cholinergic nerve terminals. A reduction in staining was also demonstrated in the perikarya of cortical pyramidal cells. The diminished trace-metal level in both regions was confirmed by quantitative measurements of zinc and copper levels. A similar reduction was not observed at a lower dose (8 nmol) of the cholinotoxin. The results led to the conclusion that AF64A may cause the decrease of the trace-metal content of the postsynaptic neurons through an indirect mechanism.  相似文献

The results of this study indicated that when stimulus intensity, pulse frequency and train duration were varied the basic topography of the cardiovascular responses to medullary stimulation did not change, but was merely increased or diminished in magnitude. Pressor responses were usually obtained in conscious cats, and also narcosis produced reversal effect on rare occasions. It is suggested that the reversal in cardiovascular responses is probably locus specific, and the medullary loci yielding reversal effect are more limited than those eliciting consequently pressor responses.  相似文献

Using alert cats we have investigated the impulse reactions (IR) of corticocerebral neurons (areas 3, 4, 5) in response to electrical stimulation of the contralateral limb (ESL). The short-latency impulse reactions of neurons of an excitatory nature, which were recorded in the animals in the state of rest, decreased considerably in intensity or could not be detected at all after preliminary (after 1.0–1.5 sec) action of a light flash or sound stimulation during the initial periods of their application. When the animals showed a defense or food motivation we observed, apart from a change in the background activity, evoked by the action of the ESL, more complex rearrangements of the impulse reaction, up to the appearance of the periods of inhibition of the impulse activity. Conversely, combined application of ESL with a stimulus of the same modality, did not prevent development of the initially isolated reaction even in cases of decrease in the ESL to a subthreshold value. A subthreshold stimulus "intensified" in this way can become important for the animal and be used as a signal stimulus during the development of the conditioned defense reflex in the animal. We assume that the nature of the reactions of the same neurons to a simple somatic stimulation is not constant. The effects of two commonly used drugs for anaesthesia in the domestic cat, ketamine and medetomidine, on features of electroejaculated semen and on sperm flow in this species were evaluated performing three experiments. This is the first study about these topics in the domestic cat. In Experiment 1, ketamine or medetomidine effects on cat sperm quality after collection by electroejaculation (E.E.) have been assessed in nine animals. Results showed that mean sperm concentration was significantly higher (p<0.01) after medetomidine than after ketamine administration. In Experiment 2, ketamine or medetomidine effects on sperm flow in 12 electroejaculated cats were studied. Mean sperm concentration and mean total number of spermatozoa resulted significantly higher (p<0.01) in medetomidine than in ketamine treated animals. The number of spermatozoa displaced in urethra was significantly higher (p<0.01) using medetomidine. No significant differences were observed in percentages of retrograde flow. In Experiment 3, ketamine or medetomidine effects on urethral sperm flow, without any stimulation for sperm collection, were evaluated. Data obtained showed a significantly higher (p<0.05) number of spermatozoa displaced in urethra after medetomidine than after ketamine injection. In conclusion, E.E. in the cat after medetomidine administration determined a higher number of spermatozoa per ejaculate than after ketamine administration, with a good pharmacological restriction and without increasing sperm retrograde flow.  相似文献

This study was performed on the effects of stimulating the midbrain central gray matter (CGM) on neuronal response in the association medial thalamic nuclei evoked by stimulation of A-alpha and A-delta fibers of the infraorbital nerve and the caudal nucleus of the spinal trigeminal tract (CN STT) and tooth pulp stimulation using cats anesthetized by thiopental-chloralose as experimental animals. Stimulating the CGB with trains of stimuli was found to evoke an excitatory response in a percentage of the neurons tested, in which latency fluctuated between 15 and 40 msec. Applying conditioned stimuli to the CGM caused suppression of response to afferent impulses in neurons belonging to the "convergent" and "low" and "high" threshold groups. Responses induced by stimulating tooth pulp and A-delta fibers showed 100% inhibition as compared with 86% during A-alpha fiber and infraorbital nerve stimulation. The fact that stimulating the CGM produces an inhibitory effect on the response of thalamic neurons evoked by stimulation of both peripheral afferents and the CN STT would indicate that the CGM can exert a direct action on thalamic neuronal activity.A. Properties of tetrapeptide epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) constructed on the basis of pineal peptide extract, have been studied. The intranasal infusions: a noninvasive way to deliver this peptide to CNS hypassing the blood-brain barrier, was used. The aim of the study is to estimate epitalon action on rat motor cortex spontaneous activity. Wistar male rats were anesthetized with urethane (1 g/kg). Extracellular unit recording was made using glass microelectrodes (1-2 MOhm). After recording of spontaneous activity (10-15 min), epitalon intranasal infusion (2 ng) was followed by 30-minute recording. Within a few minutes after the infusion, significant activation of neural activity was observed (2-2.5-fold higher frequency of neuronal spikes). Complex response consisting of several phases was identified in some recordings. The spikes frequency growth during 5 to 7 min (first phase) after the infusion was followed by the second (11-12 min) and the third (17-18 min) phases. An increase of neuronal spontaneous activity was conditioned by the higher frequency of already active units and by the involvement of previously silent cells. At least the first phase of epitalon action can be explained by direct action of the peptide on the cells of the motor cortex.  相似文献

The data obtained in the studies of neurophysiological aspects of epileptogenesis in the brain cortex, which have been carried out in our laboratory for many years, are used for the analysis of epileptogenic effects of a few convulsants (penicillin, strychnine, and d-tubocurarine) on the activity of neocortical neurons. It has been demonstrated that the development of the epileptiform activity in the cortex is accompanied by suppression of IPSP, and the above convulsants directly influence the mechanisms of postsynaptic inhibition. Epileptogenic effects of strychine and penicillin are based on blocking of chloride ion channels and depend on the direction of chloride currents. The role of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic interactions among neurons in generation of the epileptiform activity is discussed.  相似文献

Background activity was recorded in 272 neurons of the ventrolateral thalamic nucleus before and after systemic haloperidol and droperidol injection at a cataleptic dose using intracellular techniques during chronic experiments on cats in a drowsy condition. Brief burster discharges lasting 5–50 msec and following on at a high intraburst spike rate (of 200–450 Hz) were characteristic of neuronal activity in intact animals. Regular discharges occurred at the rate of 2–2.5 Hz or occasionally 3–4 Hz in 15% of cells. Numbers of neurons with the latter activity pattern rose to 22 and 30%, respectively, following haloperidol and droperidol injection. Both irregular and prolonged (80–300 msec) regular discharges were recorded in one third of the total. A relatively low intraburst spike rate (of 60–170 Hz) was observed in 37% of cells following 10 days' haloperidol injection. These changes are thought to be produced by intensified inhibitory effects on neurons of the thalamic ventrolateral nucleus from the substantia nigra and reticular thalamic nucleus following blockade of dopaminergic and -adrenergic receptors.A. During embryonic development, gap junctions link cells into functional communication compartments characterized by a common development fate. Increasing evidence for gap junctions between immature neurons suggest that similar mechanisms may also be at work in the developing vertebrate brain, where gap junction-coupled neuronal assemblies often precede synaptically-linked functional networks. Recent experiments in the developing mammalian neocortex demonstrated the presence of gap-junction mediated second messenger waves, similar to those in non-neuronal cells. The primary function of neuronal gap junctions, therefore, might be to coordinate biochemical activity, rather than to act as purely electrical synapses. Thus, gap junctions may serve to amplify neuronal activity produced by weak synaptic stimulation.  相似文献

We used the microdialysis technique to measurethe interstitial concentration of several putative metabolic stimulantsof the exercise pressor reflex during 3- and 5-Hz twitch contractions in the decerebrate cat. The peak increases in heart rate and mean arterial pressure during contraction were 20 ± 5 beats/min and 21 ± 8 mmHg and 27 ± 9 beats/min and 37 ± 12 mmHg for the 3- and 5-Hz stimulation protocols, respectively. All variables returned tobaseline after 10 min of recovery. Interstitial lactate rose (P < 0.05) by 0.41 ± 0.15 and0.56 ± 0.16 mM for the 3- and 5-Hz stimulation protocols,respectively, and were not statistically different from one another.Interstitial lactate levels remained above(P < 0.05) baseline during recoveryin the 5-Hz group. Dialysate phosphate concentrations (corrected forshifts in probe recovery) rose with stimulation(P < 0.05) by 0.19 ± 0.08 and0.11 ± 0.03 mM for the 3- and 5-Hz protocols. There were nodifferences between groups. The resting dialysateK+ concentrations for the 3- and5-Hz conditions were 4.0 ± 0.1 and 3.9 ± 0.1 meq/l,respectively. During stimulation the dialysate K+ concentrations rose steadilyfor both conditions, and the increase from rest to stimulation(P < 0.05) was 0.57 ± 0.19 and0.81 ± 0.06 meq/l for the 3- and 5-Hz conditions, respectively,with no differences between groups. Resting dialysate pH was6.915 ± 0.055 and 6.981 ± 0.032 and rose to 7.013 (P < 0.05) and 7.053 (P < 0.05) for the 3- and 5-Hzconditions, respectively, and then became acidotic (6.905, P < 0.05) during recovery (5 Hzonly). This study represents the first time simultaneous measurements of multiple skeletal muscle interstitial metabolites and pressor responses to twitch contractions have been made in the cat. These datasuggest that interstitial K+ andphosphate, but not lactate and H+,may contribute to the stimulation of thin fiber muscle afferents duringcontraction.
