A new species of dicyemid mesozoan is described from Octopus hubbsorum Berry, 1953, collected in the south of Bahia de La Paz, Baja California Sur, México. Dicyema guaycurense n. sp. is a medium-size species that reaches about 1,600 μm in length. It occurs in folds of the renal appendages. The vermiform stages are characterized as having 22 peripheral cells, a conical calotte, and an axial cell that extends to the base of the propolar cells. Infusoriform embryos consist of 39 cells; 1 nucleus is present in each urn cell and the refringent bodies are solid. This is the first of a dicyemid species from a host collected in the Gulf of California.  相似文献

A new species of dicyemid mesozoan is described from Benthoctopus sibiricus Loyning, 1930, collected in the eastern Chukchi Sea. Dicyemennea chukchiense n. sp. is a medium species that reaches about 2,000 μm in length; it lives in folds of the renal appendages. The vermiform stages are characterized in having 23 peripheral cells, a conical calotte, and an axial cell that extends to the base of the propolar cells. An anterior abortive axial cell is present in vermiform embryos. Infusoriform embryos consist of 37 cells; a single nucleus is present in each urn cell and the refringent bodies are solid. This is the first dicyemid described from the Arctic waters.  相似文献

In Octopus , the caecum, the pancreas and the liver are involved in the absorption of 3H-glycine-labelled food. The caecum exhibits the highest specific activity while the liver absorbs the largest proportion of labelled material. The administration of stained food shows in vivo alternating phases of absorption and secretion in the liver and continuous absorption in the caecum.  相似文献

Three new species of dicyemid mesozoans are described from the renal appendages of Amphioctopus fangsiao, collected off Akashi, in Harima Nada, and from Osaka Bay. Dicyema akashiense n. sp. is a small species that reaches about 900 microm in length. The vermiform stages are characterized as having 15-17 peripheral cells, a conical calotte, and an axial cell that extends to the base of the metapolar cells. Infusoriform embryos consist of 37 cells; two nuclei are present in each urn cell, and the refringent bodies are solid. Dicyema helocephalum n. sp. is a small species that reaches about 800 microm in length. The vermiform stages are characterized as having 22 peripheral cells, a disc-shaped calotte, and an axial cell that extends to the base of the propolar cells. Infusoriform embryos consist of 37 cells; a single nucleus is present in each urn cell, and the refringent bodies are solid. Dicyema awajiense n. sp. is a small species that reaches about 300 microm in length. The vermiform stages are characterized as having 22 peripheral cells, a conical calotte, and an axial cell that extends to the middle of the propolar cells. Infusoriform embryos consist of 37 cells; a single nucleus is present in each urn cell, and the refringent bodies are solid. In A. fangsiao various occurrence patterns of dicyemid species were observed, including instances where different dicyemid species were found in the renal appendage on each side. This suggests that dicyemids infect each renal appendage independently. The prevalence, reproductive traits, calotte shapes, and co-occurrence patterns of dicyemids are briefly discussed.  相似文献

A species of dicyemid mesozoan is redescribed from the giant Pacific octopus, Enteroctopus dofleini (Wülker, 1910), collected off Iwase in Toyama Bay, Honshu, Japan. Dicyemennea nouveli McConnaughey, 1959, is a large species that reaches about 12,000 microm in length. This species lives in folds of the renal appendages. The vermiform stages are characterized as having 30-41 peripheral cells, a conical calotte, and an axial cell that extends to the middle of the metapolar cells. An anterior abortive axial cell is present in vermiform embryos. Full-grown vermiform embryos have as many as 4 agametes. Infusoriform embryos consist of 39 cells; 2 nuclei are present in each urn cell and the refringent bodies are solid.  相似文献

Dicyemennea canadensis n. sp. is described from a bathyal octopus collected off Canada in the Bay of Fundy. The dicyemid is a small species that rarely exceeds 600 microm in length. The vermiform stages are further characterized as having 17-23 peripheral cells, a conical-shaped calotte, an axial cell that extends to the base of the propoplar cells, and no abortive axial cells. Infusoriform embryos consist of 37 cells. There is 1 nucleus in each urn cell, and refringent bodies are absent. This is the first dicyemid to be described from the cephalopod Bathypolypus arcticus (Prosch. 1847), and the first dicyemid reported from Canada. In addition, it is the first species of Dicyemennea from the northwestern Atlantic Ocean to be described.  相似文献

Octopus vulgaris drills holes in the shells of a variety of molluscs. The walls of the cavities drilled exhibit dissolution of mineral and organic material. The features which characterize the cavities have been described. The composition and structure of the shell itself is important in determining the size, shape and form of the cavity drilled, and not the size of the octopus. Capture, drilling the shell, and eating the occupant may take less than one hour.  相似文献

Two new species of dicyemids are described from 2 species of deep benthic cephalopods, Graneledone antarctica and G. macrotyla, collected in the Southern Ocean south of the Antarctic Convergence. Dicyemennea bathybenthum n. sp. was found in G. antarctica. It is a medium-sized dicyemid whose length does not exceed 1,000 microm. The calotte is bluntly rounded or conical in small individuals, but the shape becomes discoidal in large individuals. Nematogens and vermiform embryos have 23 peripheral cells. An anterior abortive axial cell is present in vermiform embryos. Other stages in the life cycle were not observed. Dicyemennea dorycephalum n. sp. was found in G. macrotyla. It is a medium to large dicyemid that rarely exceeds 4,000 microm. The calotte is distinctly pointed, similar in shape to a spearhead. Vermiform stages typically have either 25 or 27 peripheral cells. An anterior abortive axial cell is present in vermiform embryos. Infusoriform embryos have 37 cells, the refringent bodies are solid in composition, and 2 nuclei are present in each urn cell.  相似文献

In this paper we examine the phylogenetic relationships of the Octopoda utilizing molecular sequence data from the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene and compare results from analyses of molecular data with classifications and phylogenies based on previous morphological studies. Partial COI sequences (657 bp, excluding primers) were obtained from 28 species representing most of the diversity in the Order Octopoda, along with a sequence from the established sister taxon to the Octopoda, Vampyroteuthis infernalis. Our results exhibit a number of basic differences from inferences based on standard morphological data. We attempt to resolve these differences based on our confidence in various morphological features. An important finding is the failure of the molecular data to support the monophyly of the Octopodidae. This family contains over 90% of the species in the Suborder Incirrata and has always been difficult to define. Statistical tests constraining Octopodidae monophyly by use of parsimony and maximum-likelihood techniques suggest that all incirrates may be derived from octopodids.  相似文献

Larval nematode parasites (Spiruroidea: Cystidicolidae) are recorded for the first time in Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797 in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean. Prevalence was 16% and mean intensity was 1.46 worms/host. Body length of larval nematodes ranges from 8.3 to 9.3 mm, with a distance from the anterior end to nerve ring from 187.5 to 200 microm, and to excretory pore 194.6-350 microm. Anatomical characteristics, such as deirid, nerve ring, cephalic alae, excretory pore, pseudolabia amphids, sclerotized protuberance, and anus, examined using light microscopy (LM) or scanning electron microscopy (SEM), are illustrated. The nematode was designed as a cystidicolid "Type A" larva. The hemocytic infiltration present in the host tissue around the nematode capsule and the mechanical compression in the infected organs denote the pathogenicity of this nematode. In the study area, O. vulgaris may play the role of an intermediate or paratenic host in the nematode life cycle.  相似文献

Juvenile Octopus vulgaris foraged by chemotactile exploration, mainly in crevices and under rocks. They caught small crustaceans and molluscs, including Lima bivalves, and preferred crabs and Lima in a simple laboratory choice test. Octopuses consumed 30% of their prey away from home, and small remains of prey deposited in the midden were selectively removed by waves and currents resulting in an underestimate of the octopus' intake and diet.  相似文献

Summary The first case of true hexapody among the Octopoda, resulting from bilateral agenesis of one arm pair, is described for a malePteroctopus tetracirrhus. A case of decapody, with uniform development of all arms, is also reported for the first time for a maleOctopus briareus. Both conditions apparently result from developmental anomalies of the embryonic arm anlagen. A survey of other anomalous conditions relating to arm development and regeneration within the Cephalopoda is provided. A possible relationship of polyfurcation of arm tips in the Octopoda with regenerative processes in amphibian limbs leading to similar conditions is suggested.  相似文献

Spermatozoa of two Eledone species (Cephalopoda, Octopoda)   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Selmi MG 《Tissue & cell》1996,28(5):613-620
Spermatozoa from testes and spermatophores of two octopod species, Eledone cirrhosa and E. moschata, have been investigated by electron microscopy. At the base of the mature sperm acrosome of both species a well developed, periodic, conical structure is present. This structure is strikingly similar to that present in the Octopus sp. acrosome. Also the modalities of formation of such a structure during spermiogenesis show strong similarities between the Octopus and Eledone genera. The resistance to disruption of sperm chromatin of E. cirrhosa and E. moschata after treatments with SDS and mercaptoethanol which are known to dissolve disulfide-bridges, reveals the presence of S-S crosslinks.  相似文献
