The vasomotor response of the tail of the albino rat to total-body heating and cooling was studied by skin-temperature recording and plethysmography with the tail at 25 degrees C air temperature. Tail vasodilation started at core temperatures lightly above 37 degrees C and increased to a core temperature up to about 39 degrees C. During cooling of warm rats, tail vasoconstriction started at significantly higher levels of core temperature than the values at which vasodilation appeared when the rat was warmed.  相似文献

A 7 year collection of calculi from short- and long-term studies with Sprague-Dawley rats showed that although the incidence of rats with urolithiasis was small (0.5%), the variety of sizes and composition of the calculi could be of general interest.  相似文献

The time course of the vascular permeability disorder following upon acute hypoxia and the fate of plasma substances entering the vessel wall in consequence of increased permeability were studied on the rat abdominal aorta rendered hypoxic for one hour by double ligature and recirculated for periods ranging from one hour to 30 days. The distribution and quantity of mural plasma inhibition were determined histochemically by means of a colloidal iron tracer and Prussian blue reaction and by photometric analysis, respectively. Plasma imbibition reached its maximum after recirculation for 24 to 48 hours and fell to an almost normal level after 10 days. Administration of the colloidal iron tracer on the second day of recirculation, when the permeability disorder was at its peak, showed plasma imbibition in every layer of the vessel wall. At seven days it was restricted to the outer third of the media and the adventitia. The endothelium is acting as the main barrier to mural plasma imbibition and in the case of a permeability disorder only the elastic lamellae constitute a temporary mechanical obstacle to the ingression of plasma.  相似文献

The basic ventilation values - tidal volume (VT), breathing frequency (f), minute ventilation (VE) and the duration of inspiration (TI) and expiration (TE) -- were determined in adult male rats. The range of these values is given and the pattern of breathing is defined as the relationship between VE and VT, which in the rat is linear throughout its entire range. The role of TI and TE in changing f in the rat were evaluated. The breathing pattern of the rat was compared with data for the rabbit and man, using percentual expression of the basic values. A shift of the breathing pattern to higher f values was observed in rats with experimental lung diseases. In these rats, the inhalation of 100% O2 shifted the pattern of breathing markedly to lower VE values, though not to values comparable with the controls. Bilateral cervical vagotomy was followed by a pronouced decrease in f, an increase in VT and T1 persisted even after vagotomy, however; it can be assumed that this relationship is effected either by means of receptors in the chest muscles, or by the direct action of CO2 which is used to stimulate breathing, on the bulbopontine pacemaker.  相似文献

The cerebral vessels of the rat were filled with inks of different colours. The topography of the vessels of the amygdala were reconstructed from serial sections. The circulation of the individual amygdaloid nuclei was studied in detail. The arteries of the amygdala arise from the deep and cortical branches of the internal carotid and middle cerebral arteries. Eight major arteries were found to supply blood to the amygdala. All amygdaloid nuclei receive branches from both arterial trunks. The vast majority of the veins are collected by the middle cerebral and basal veins. Only a small fraction drains into the hippocampal vein. Of particular importance are the veins ending in the basal vein and those cortical ones that run in the rhinal sulcus. All amygdaloid nuclei have a multidirectional drainage.  相似文献

The retention of radioactivity after doses of 14C- and 3H-labelled folic acid is described. Radioactivity was retained in liver, kidney and gut of rats for some time after administration of the dose. The retained radioactivity could not be displaced by large doses of unlabelled folic acid or unlabelled 5-methyltetrahydrofolate. 14C- and 3H-labbelled folates showed similar chromatographic behaviour onion-exchange chromatography to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, and on ion-exchange and gel-permeation chromatography to synthetic pteroylhepta-gamma-glutamate.  相似文献

A method for removal of the thymus in the newborn rat employing measures aimed at reducing the mortality incurred by the surgical procedure, cannibalism and infection is described in detail. Tranquilisation of the dam, sterile technique, magnification of the operative site for thymus aspiration, warming to 37 degrees C during the recovery phase, and application of pheromones to the offspring prior to their reunion with the dam, all proved important in increasing the survival rate.  相似文献

The Breuer-Hering inflation reflex [BHIR] was elicited in conscious and anaesthetized rats by inflating the lungs with constant pressures of 5--20 cm H2O. The reflex was elicited well in conscious animals, but even with the maximum stimulus [inflation of 20 cm H2O, corresponding to about 4.5-fold the tidal volume] the duration of apnoea did not exceed 4 control respiration cycles. In anaesthetized animals, the same stimulus let to apnoea lasting 180--400 control respiration cycles on the average, according to the type and depth of general anaesthesia. The duration of apnoea in occlusion of the air passages in the expiratory position increased with the depth of anaesthesia, while in occlusion of the air passages at the peak of inspiration it was shortened. Stimulation of chemoreceptors [inhalation of a mixture 4% CO2 in O2 or of 8% O2 in N2] did not influence the elicitability or duration of the BHIR, nor did cooling the rats to 28 degrees C or heating them to 38 degrees C. The mean respiration frequency was 98 c/min in unanaesthetized rats, 96 c/min in urethane anaesthesis and 79--48 c/min in halothane anaesthesia, according to the depth of anaesthesia. Bilateral cervical vagotomy reduced mean respiration frequency to 35.6 c/min in conscious rats and to 31 c/min in urethane-anaesthetized animals. The results indicate the existence of species-related differences between basic regulatory mechanisms in the rat and certain other mammals.  相似文献

In rats intravenous injections of E. coli endotoxin at thermoneutral or slightly warmer environmental temperatures resulted in biphasic febrile response: two rises of temperature being separated by a transient fall. At an ambient temperature of 20 degrees C the change in body temperature still had a biphasic pattern, however, the fall was the dominant change. Each part of the response was the result of a coordinated reaction which involved heat production mechanisms (including interscapular and periaortic brown fat thermogenesis) and heat loss effectors (tail vasomotor changes) separately or in combination. Beside ambient temperature, the initial body temperature at the start of endotoxin action exerted an important role in determining which of the effector functions would be involved in the response.  相似文献

Although exogenous phosphatidic acid (PA) has been shown to promote insulin release, the effects of endogenous PA on endocrine function are largely unexplored. In order to generate PA in situ, intact adult-rat islets were treated with exogenous phospholipases of the D type (PLD), and their effects on phospholipid metabolism and on insulin release were studied in parallel. Chromatographically purified PLD from Streptomyces chromofuscus stimulated the accumulation of PA in [14C]arachidonate- or [14C]myristate-prelabelled islets, and also promoted insulin secretion over an identical concentration range. During 30 min incubations, insulin release correlated closely with the accumulation of [14C]arachidonate-labelled PA (r2 = 0.98; P less than 0.01) or [14C]myristate-labelled PA (r2 = 0.97; P less than 0.01). Similar effects were seen both in freshly isolated and in overnight-cultured intact islets. In contrast, PLDs (from cabbage or peanut) which do not support phospholipid hydrolysis at the pH of the extracellular medium also did not promote insulin release. The effects on secretion of the active PLD preparation were inhibited by modest cooling (to 30 degrees C); dantrolene or Co2+ also inhibited PLD-induced secretion without decreasing PLD-induced PA formation. Additionally, the removal of PLD left the subsequent islet responsiveness to glucose intact, further supporting an exocytotic non-toxic mechanism. PLD-induced insulin release did not appear to require influx of extracellular Ca2+, nor could the activation of protein kinase C clearly be implicated. During incubations of 30 min, PLD selectively generated PA; however, more prolonged incubations (60 min) also led to production of some diacyglycerol and free arachidonic acid concomitant with progressive insulin release. These data suggest that PLD activation has both rapid and direct effects (via PA) and more delayed, secondary, effects (via other effects of PA or the generation of other lipid signals). Taken in conjunction with our demonstration that pancreatic islets contain an endogenous PLD which generates PA [Dunlop & Metz (1989) Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 163, 922-928], these studies provide evidence suggesting that PLD activation (and possibly other pathways leading to PA formation) could play a role in stimulus-secretion coupling in pancreatic islets.  相似文献
