The drugstore beetle, Stegobium paniceum (L.) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae), is a pest of stored medicinal and aromatic plants. Generally, mortality of each stage increased with an increase of temperature and exposure time. Heat tolerance for different stages from highest to lowest was young larvae, old larvae, eggs, adult, and pupae. The mortality after 7 h at 42 degrees C for young larvae, old larvae, eggs, adults, and pupae, respectively, was 16 +/- 5, 31 +/- 6, 48 +/- 3, 63 +/- 8, and 86 +/- 2% (mean +/- SEM). Similar trends for stage specific mortality were seen with the lethal time for 90% mortality (LT90) at 42 degrees C; 773, 144, 12, and 11 h for old larvae, eggs, adults, and pupa respectively. Mortality was too low with young larvae to estimate LT90. The LT90 for young larvae at 42, 45, 50, 55, and 60 degrees C was 25, 20, 3.9, 0.18, and 0.08 h, respectively. The cold tolerance of different stages at 0 degree C from highest to lowest was adults, old larvae, young larvae, pupae, and eggs. The LT90 at 0 degrees C was 298, 153, 151, 89, and 53 h, respectively. The LT90 for adults at 5, -5, -10, and -15 degrees C was 792, 58, 2, and 0.8 h, respectively. The supercooling point of adults was -15.2 +/- 2 degrees C; young larvae, -9.0 +/- 0.8 degrees C; old larvae, -6.5 +/- 0.5 degrees C; and pupae, -4.0 +/- 1.4 degrees C. Heat treatments that control young larvae should control all other stages of S. paniceum. Cold treatments that control adults should control all other stages of S. paniceum. Dried plants stored at 5 degrees C for 45 d or 42 degrees C for 30 h and then kept below 18 degrees C throughout the rest of the year, should remain pest-free without any chemical control.  相似文献

Use of ingested transgenic corn tissue as a marker for measuring movement of adult Diabrotica virgifera virgifera (LeConte) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae; western corn rootworm) was investigated. Laboratory observations of beetles feeding on corn foliage, pollen, silks, or soybean foliage provided background on feeding patterns. The interval between food consumption and its appearance in feces (gut passage time) ranged from 102.7 +/- 11 min for soybean foliage to 56.7 +/- 2.9 min for corn silks. In a laboratory assay, protein expression tests identified the presence of Cry3Bb1 protein inside 50% of adult D. virgifera for up to 16 h after they had last consumed Cry3Bb1 protein-expressing corn silks from 'YieldGard Rootworm' corn plants (Monsanto Co.). Cry3Bb1 protein could not be detected by 32 h postfeeding. The proportion of Cry3Bb1 protein-positive beetles declined linearly with increasing time since feeding on 'YieldGard Rootworm' tissue. Approximately 20% of adult D. virgifera collected near 'YieldGard Rootworm' corn plots tested positive for Cry3Bb1 protein, indicating 'YieldGard Rootworm' tissue consumption within the last 16-32 h. Based on a 16- to 32-h postfeeding detection interval for Cry3Bb1 protein and the distance between 'YieldGard Rootworm' sources and sites where Cry3Bb1-positive insects were collected, 85.3% of males and females moved < or = 4.6-9.1 m/d through R2-R3 stage corn. Among Cry3Bb1-positive adults that left corn and were captured in an adjacent soybean field, 86.4% of males and 93.1% of females moved < or = 4.6-9.1 m/d through soybean. Detection of transgenic plant tissues in mobile insect herbivores is a novel application of biotechnology to the study of insect movement.  相似文献

【目的】脐腹小蠹Scolytus schevyrewi Semenov是白榆的钻蛀性害虫之一,为找到对脐腹小蠹的高致病力虫生真菌菌株。【方法】通过室内喷雾法研究了5株虫生真菌菌株对脐腹小蠹幼虫的致病力,结合各菌株菌落直径、孢子萌发率、产孢量和菌落生长速率4个培养特征,筛选到Bb773和Pc546 2株优良的菌株,在此基础上,进一步对这2株菌株的几丁质酶、蛋白质酶和荧光素二乙酸酯(FDA)水解酶活性进行了测定。【结果】菌株Bb773和菌株Pc546在浓度为1×107孢子/mL悬浮液处理后,10 d的后脐腹小蠹幼虫的校正死亡率分别达96.67%和90.00%,致死中时分别为3.61 d和4.18 d。菌株Bb773的几丁质酶、FDA水解酶和蛋白质酶活性在接种后第2~10天均高于菌株Pc546,2株菌株蛋白质酶活性差异均达到了显著水平(P<0.05)。【结论】确定了菌株Bb773在脐腹小蠹害虫生物防治中具有潜在的应用价值。  相似文献

为获取对草地贪夜蛾Spodoptera frugiperda具有高致病力的生防真菌,从福建省不同地区分离得到8株寄主为鳞翅目和半翅目幼虫僵虫的绿僵菌Metarhizium,采用浸渍法测定了其对草地贪夜蛾2龄幼虫和蛹的致病力,并根据形态学和分子生物学方法对高致病力菌株进行种类鉴定。结果表明,8株绿僵菌菌株对草地贪夜蛾2龄幼虫和蛹均表现出不同程度的致病力,其中菌株FJMR2和FJXY7表现出较强的致病力。在5×107个/mL孢子浓度下,FJMR2和FJXY7对草地贪夜蛾2龄幼虫的致死率分别为88.76%和82.13%,对蛹的致死率分别为86.57%和84.00%;对草地贪夜蛾2龄幼虫的LT50分别为4.81 d和4.93 d,对蛹的LT50分别为4.94 d和4.83 d。经鉴定菌株FJMR2和FJXY7均为莱氏绿僵菌Metarhizium rileyi。本研究获得2株对草地贪夜蛾2龄幼虫和蛹具有高致病力的莱氏绿僵菌菌株,在草地贪夜蛾的生物防治中具有较大应用潜力。  相似文献

Twenty isolates of the fungus Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch). Sorkin (Ma) were evaluated to determine their virulence against last instar and adult emergence of Mexican fruit fly, Anastrepha ludens (Loew). Larvae were exposed by immersion in a conidial suspension at a concentration of 10(8) UFC/ml under laboratory conditions. Larvae and pupae cumulative mortality rates ranged from 37.9 to 98.75%. Thirteen isolates caused mortality rates > 83.7%, and their LT50 values ranged from 1.8 to 6.2 d. The Ma2, Ma8, and Ma16 isolates were evaluated at seven different concentrations ranging from 10(1) to 10(7) UFC/ml, showing LC50 values from 3.7 to 4.8 x 10(5) UFC/ml. In a field-cage experiment, 200 ml of a conidial suspension of Ma2, at a concentration of 2.5 x 10(6) UFC/ml, was applied on 2,500 cm2 soil surface (2 x 10(5) UFC/cm2). The fungus reduced adult emergence, 22% fewer adults emerging in a sandy loam soil, and 43% fewer in loam soil, compared with the controls. M. anisopliae may offer a preferable alternative to chemicals as a biological control agent against A. ludens.  相似文献

从自然感病的温室桃蚜上分离到一株球孢白僵菌Bb21,测定了该菌株对桃蚜的致病性及其对两种捕食性天敌的影响.结果表明:Bb21菌株对桃蚜的致病力强,LD5o为97孢子·mm-2,95%置信区间为45~191孢子·mm-2;对草蛉2龄幼虫有较弱的致病性,LD50为1089孢子·mm-2,是桃蚜的11.2倍;对异色瓢虫致病性极小,高浓度处理(5×108孢子·mL-1)的平均感染率仅为l3%.该菌株低浓度处理对两种捕食性天敌的发育历期和生殖力均无显著影响,但高浓度处理(5×108孢子·mL-1)使异色瓢虫的幼虫期平均缩短1.4d,羽化率降低33%,产卵量减少14%,使普通草蛉的幼虫期平均缩短0.7d,羽化率降低24%,产卵量减少11%.该菌株对桃蚜的半致死剂量远低于对两种捕食性天敌的半致死剂量,并且在防治桃蚜使用浓度下对两种捕食性天敌成虫羽化率和繁殖力的影响极小,可作为温室桃蚜的生物控制因子在有害生物综合治理中应用.  相似文献

The infectivity and reproductive potential of the entomopathogenic nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Oswego strain), at different concentrations, was studied. Seventy to 80.0% mortality to late instar larvae of the clover root curculio, Sitona hispidulus, and 40.0-76.0% mortality to pupae, was observed at concentrations of 15-100 infective juveniles. There were no significant differences in mortality among nematode concentrations. LC(50) levels of 4.0 and 21.4 nematodes were determined for clover root curculio larvae and pupae, respectively. Nematodes did not cause significant mortality to adult or first instar clover root curculio. H. bacteriophora was able to complete its development and reproduce in 74.0-95.0% of clover root curculio late instar larvae and pupae. Reproductive potential in curculio larvae and pupae ranged from 0 to 7040 infective juveniles per host. Larvae exposed to 100 nematodes had a reproductive potential significantly higher than in those larvae exposed to 15 and 50 nematodes. Reproductive potential in pupae decreased with an increased nematode dose, indicating potential crowding effects. Host larval and pupal mass were positively correlated with nematode progeny production.  相似文献

Virulence variations of Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae, the causative agent of American foulbrood disease of honeybees, were investigated by analysis of 16 field isolates of this pathogen, belonging to three previously characterized genotypes, as well as the type strain (ATCC 9545) of P. larvae subsp. larvae, with exposure bioassays. We demonstrated that the strain-specific 50% lethal concentrations varied within an order of magnitude and that differences in amount of time for the pathogen to kill 100% of the infected hosts (LT100) correlated with genotype. One genotype killed rather quickly, with a mean LT100 of 7.8 +/- 1.7 days postinfection, while the other genotypes acted more slowly, with mean LT100s of 11.2 +/- 0.8 and 11.6 +/- 0.6 days postinfection.  相似文献

The susceptibility of larvae, prepupae, and pupae of the grass looper Mocis latipes (Guenée) to the entomopathogenic nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Poinar) NC strain was evaluated under laboratory conditions. Concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, and 120 nematodes per larva, applied in 1 ml of sterile-distilled water, were bioassayed, applying them to groups of 20 individuals of each instar, prepupa or pupa. Mortality was recorded daily for 5 d. All instars and the prepupal stage were the most susceptible to H. bacteriophora. Mortality ranged from 22.5 to 100%. Prepupae had 97.5-100% mortality starting at 10 nematodes per prepupa. Pupal mortality ranged from 27.5 to 41.3% as nematode concentration was increased. H. bacteriophora presented LC50 values that ranged between 5.26 and 37.66 nematodes per larva and LT50 values that ranged between 1.5 and 4.3 d. Results of this study suggest that H. bacteriophora has potential as a biocontrol agent against M. latipes.  相似文献

Wandering phase Indianmeal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Hübner), larvae were exposed to the label rate of hydroprene (1.9 x 10(-3) mg [AI] /cm2) sprayed on concreted petri dishes. Larvae were exposed for 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 h and maintained at 16, 20, 24, 28, and 32 degrees C and 57% RH until adult emergence. Larval developmental time and mortality were significantly influenced by temperature and exposure intervals. Maximum developmental time (47.2 +/- 1.3 d) occurred at 16 degrees C, and the minimum developmental time (7.0 +/- 0.5 d) occurred at 32 degrees C. Larval mortality generally increased at all of the five tested temperatures as exposure period increased. The greatest mortality (82.0 +/- 0.1%) occurred when larvae were exposed for 30 h at 28 degrees C, and minimum mortality (0.0 +/- 0.5%) occurred at 16 degrees C when larvae were exposed for 1 h. The relationships between temperature, exposure period, and developmental time were described by polynomial models, based on lack-of-fit tests. Hydroprene has potential to be an effective alternative to conventional insecticides in surface treatments for Indianmeal moth management. Response-surface models derived from this study can be used in simulation models to estimate the potential consequences of hydroprene on Indianmeal moth population dynamics.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to determine plasma glucose kinetics and substrate oxidation in men and women during exercise relative to the lactate threshold (LT). Subjects cycled for 25 min at 70 and 90% of O(2) uptake (VO(2)) at LT (70 and 90% LT, respectively). Plasma glucose appearance (R(a)) and disappearance (R(d)) were determined with a primed constant infusion of [6,6-(2)H]glucose. There were no significant differences in glucose R(a) between men [22.6 +/- 1.9 and 39.9 +/- 3.9 micromol x kg fat-free mass (FFM)(-1) x min(-1) for 70 and 90% LT, respectively] and women (22.3 +/- 2.7 and 33.9 +/- 5.7 micromol x kg FFM(-1) x min(-1) for 70 and 90% LT, respectively). Similarly, there were no significant differences in glucose R(d) between men (21.2 +/- 1.9 and 38.1 +/- 3.7 micromol x kg FFM(-1) x min(-1) for 70 and 90% LT, respectively) and women (21.3 +/- 2.8 and 33.3 +/- 5.6 micromol x kg FFM(-1) x min(-1) for 70 and 90% LT, respectively). Although there were no differences between genders in the relative contribution of carbohydrate (CHO) to total energy expenditure, the relative contribution of muscle glycogen to total CHO oxidation (75.8 +/- 3.2 and 64.2 +/- 8.0% for men and women, respectively, at 70% LT and 75.1 +/- 2.6 and 60.1 +/- 11.2% for men and women, respectively, at 90% LT) was lower in women. Consequently, the relative contribution of blood glucose to total CHO oxidation was significantly higher in women. These results indicate that although plasma glucose R(a) and R(d) are similar in men and women, the relative contribution of muscle glycogen and blood glucose is significantly different in women during moderate-intensity exercise relative to LT.  相似文献

【目的】研究在实验室条件下,咖啡豆象Araecerus fasciculatus生命活动对不同相对湿度环境的适生性,并通过组建实验种群生命表,明确相对湿度对其种群增长的影响。【方法】实验设定30%、45%、60%、75%、90%5个相对湿度梯度,观察比较咖啡豆象卵、幼虫、蛹历期及其存活率、成虫寿命、单雌产卵量。【结果】在30%~90%范围内,随相对湿度的增加咖啡豆象幼虫发育历期缩短,卵至蛹期存活率、成虫寿命及繁殖力提高。相对湿度为90%时,卵、幼虫、蛹存活率最高且发育历期最短,成虫寿命最长,单雌产卵量最高。各湿度生命表参数内禀增长率(r_m)在0.197~0.319之间,相对湿度75%时最高;净增殖率(R_0)在9.653~73.493之间,相对湿度90%时最高。此外,内禀增长率(r_m)、净增殖率(R_0)与相对湿度关系符合Logistic模型,分别为y=0.32/1+exp(1.71-0.07x)(R~2=0.90442,P=0.00201)和y=78.13/1+exp(5.03-0.09x)(R2=0.98931,P=0.00213)。【结论】研究表明相对湿度是影响咖啡豆象生长发育、繁殖力、种群增长的重要因素,有助于进一步了解气象环境条件对咖啡豆象的影响,同时为其种群增长数学模型的拟合提供参考。  相似文献

Autoplusia egena (Guenée) is a moth distributed throughout the Western hemisphere. The larvae have already been found feeding on several different plant families, including important crops such soybeans and beans. To contribute to the knowledge of its biology in laboratory conditions, and considering the duration and the morphometry of each development stage, a laboratorial rearing was accomplished at 25 +/- 1 degrees C, 70 +/- 10% RH and 14h photophase. The larvae were fed with black bean leaves and the adults were fed with a honey solution at 10%. The results, expressed by the mean (+/- SE), for the periods of each stage were: egg 3.0 +/- 0.00 d; larva 15.7 +/- 1.25 d; pre-pupa 1.9 +/- 0.05 d; pupa 8.8 +/- 0.09 d and adult: longevity 12.1 +/- 0.95 d, pre-oviposition 5.4 +/- 0.50 d, oviposition 6.3 +/- 1.10 d and post-oviposition 1.4 +/- 0.87 d. The larvae went through five instars, for which the mean width of the cephalic capsules were 0.302 +/- 0.001 mm; 0.500 +/- 0.003 mm; 0.854 +/- 0.008 mm; 1.424 +/- 0.011 mm and 2.744 +/- 0.053 mm. The average length, width, and weight of the pupae were 16.965 +/- 0.003 mm, 4.674 +/- 0.040 mm and 0.217 +/- 0.003 g, respectively.  相似文献

The performance of various diets (bovine meat, fish-sardine, shrimp, dog faeces, and banana) in Ophyra aenescens development was evaluated. The biology was studied in an incubator (BOD) at 27 +/- 1 degrees C and 80 +/- 10% of RH. The developmental time from larvae to adult, the developmental time and viability of larvae and pupae, the weight of pupae as well as the sex ratio of the emerging adults were also determined. 研究了人工继代繁殖甜菜夜蛾饲料配方及饲养方法 ,测定了各虫态发育历期、幼虫死亡率、化蛹率、羽化率、蛹畸形率及不同世代蛹重。采用改进的饲料配方饲养的深圳种群 ,第 2代幼虫死亡率、化蛹率、蛹畸形率、羽化率分别为 7 8% ,97 3 % ,2 7%和 93 8% ,第 2 ,5 ,9,1 2代平均单头蛹重分别为 1 1 9 7± 1 6 1 ,98 3± 1 1 4,94 3± 1 2 6和 82 4± 9 6mg,平均单雌产卵量分别为 1 1 3 7 2± 63 3 ,684 5± 5 3 7,45 6 9± 40 2和 3 91 7± 45 6粒。人工饲养的甜菜夜蛾 ,卵、幼虫、蛹、雌性成虫的发育历期分别为 2 5~3 5 ,1 0~ 1 2 5 ,7~ 8 5和 8~ 1 4天 ,完成一个世代需要 2 1~ 2 5天。  相似文献

The pathogenicity of 32 fungal isolates from the genera of Beauveria, Verticillium, Paecilomyces, Metarhizium, Mariannaea, and Hirsutella to second-instar tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), was tested under laboratory conditions. These isolates originated from various insect hosts and substrates from France, Denmark, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Syria, and the United States. A single exposure concentration (1 x 10(7) conidia/ ml) assay for each isolate was first conducted by immersing the insects in 10 ml of a fungal suspension for 5s. These were followed by concentration-mortality assays on five of the most pathogenic isolates using four test concentrations ranging from 2 x 10(4) to 2 x 10(7) conidia/ml. B. bassiana 726 (Bemisia-passaged GHA strain) was used as a standard for comparison in all of the assays. Among the test isolates, three produced mortality not significantly different from the water control. Mortality ranged from 35 to 98% among the other 29 isolates. The LC50 values of the five most pathogenic isolates ranged from 0.8 to 5.0 x 10(5) conidia/ml. The LT50 values for these isolates ranged from 6.0 to 6.9, 3.1 to 5.1, and 2.5 to 4.0 d for concentrations of 2 x 10(5), 2 x 10(6), and 2 x 10(7) conidia/ml, respectively. Two strains of B. bassiana (ARSEF 1394,5665) and one M anisopliae (ARSEF 3540) were more pathogenic to the nymphs than the standard, having significantly lower LC50 and LT50, values. Our results demonstrated that several genera of entomopathogenic fungi have promise as microbial control agents against L. lineolaris.  相似文献

Other than Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner, few bacteria are lethal to the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata [Say]), a major pest of potatoes and eggplant. Expanded use of biologicals for the control of Colorado potato beetle will improve resistance management, reduce pesticide use, and produce novel compounds for potential use in transgenic plants. Using freeze-dried, rehydrated artificial diet in pellet form to screen bacteria lethal to other insects, we determined that strains of Photorhabdus luminescens killed Colorado potato beetle larvae. The LC50 for second instar larvae of strain HM5-1 was 6.4 +/- 1.87 x 10(7) cells per diet pellet. In an attempt to find additional naturally occurring P. luminescens strains toxic to Colorado potato beetle larvae, we recovered, from soil, bacteria that produced a purple pigment. This bacterial strain, identified as Chromobacterium sp. by 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing, was also toxic to Colorado potato beetle larvae within 3 d. The LC50 for second instar larvae for these bacteria was 2.0 +/- 0.79 x 10(8) cells per diet pellet, while the LC50 was approximately 1 log lower for third instar larvae. P. luminescens appeared to kill by means of a protein toxin that may be similar to the described lepidopteran protein toxins. Based on the heat and acid stability, the toxin or toxins that Chromobacterium sp. produces, while not fully characterized, do not appear to be typical proteins. In both bacteria, the toxins are made after exponential growth ceases.  相似文献

Fungal isolates (31 Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae , five M. anisopliae var majus , three Beauveria bassiana and four B. brongniartii ) originating from a wide range of geographical locations, insect species and soil types were tested against Papuana uninodis (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). In a first test series, spores were applied topically to third-instar larvae and adults. The most effective strain against P. uninodis larvae and adults was Ma TB 101, a M. anisopliae isolate from adult P. woodlarkiana . For adults, strain Ma FI 384, a M. anisopliae from Popillia japonica , was almost equally effective. The 11 most effective isolates (nine M. anisopliae var. anisopliae , one B. brongniartii and one B. bassiana ) with LT values of less than 6 weeks in 50 adults and/or less than 4 weeks in larvae were tested for their efficacy against adults and larvae of P. uninodis by application of spores to soil (107 spores/g). Ma TB 101 was significantly more effective against both adults and larvae (LT ca. 10 days) than all other isolates (LT > 50 50 3 weeks). Two other M. anisopliae strains, Ma F 248 from soil and Ma FI 384 from P.japonica , were more effective than most isolates in adults. The latter three M. anisopliae isolates were tested in a concentration series against third-instar larvae and adults. Mortality was concentration related. Isolates Ma F 248 and Ma FI 384 did not achieve 50% mortality within the test period at concentrations lower than 107 spores/g of soil or feed. For concentrations of Ma TB 101 from 1 107 to 2 105 spores/g the LT ranged from 13 to 30 days in adults and 12 to 24 50 days in third-instar larvae. Accordingly, concentrations causing 50% mortality (LC ) for Ma 50 TB 101 were significantly lower than for the two other M. anisopliae isolates tested.  相似文献

Off-host survival of the northern fowl mite, Ornithonyssus sylviarum (Canestrini & Fanzago) (Acari: Macronyssidae), and the chicken body louse, Menacanthus stramineus (Nitzsch) (Phthiraptera: Menoponidae), was studied at 12 combinations of temperature (15, 21, 27, and 33 degrees C) and humidity (31, 65, and 85% RH). Mite protonymphs and louse third instars survived longer on average than the respective adult stages. Higher temperatures significantly reduced survival of adult and immature stages of both ectoparasites, whereas relative humidity had significant effects on O. sylviarum (especially protonymphs) but not M. stramineus. The LT50 values for adult northern fowl mites ranged from 1.9 (at 33 degrees C, 31%RH) to 8.3 d (at 15 degrees C, 85%RH), LT50 values for mite protonymphs ranged from 2.0 (at 33 degrees C, 31%RH) to 18.1 d (at 15 degrees C, 85%RH), LT50 values for adult lice ranged from 0.5 (at 33 degrees C, 31%RH) to 1.7 d (at 15 degrees C, 65%RH), and LT50 values for nymphal lice ranged from 1.2 (at 33 degrees C, 65%RH) to 3.3 d (at 21 degrees C, 31%RH). Maximum survival of the northern fowl mite was up to 35 d for adults and 29 d for protonymphs. Maximum survival for the chicken body louse was 3.3 d for adults and 5.8 d for nymphs. The data provide minimum guidelines for leaving poultry houses vacant long enough to allow ectoparasites to die before introduction of subsequent new flocks.  相似文献

Concerns over insect resistance, regulatory action, and the needs of organic processors have generated renewed interest in developing nonchemical alternative postharvest treatments to fumigants used on dried fruits and nuts. Low-temperature storage has been identified as one alternative for the Indianmeal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Hiibner), and navel orangeworm, Amyelois transitella (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), common postharvest pests in California dried fruits and nuts. The response of eggs, nondiapausing larvae, and pupae of both species to exposure to low temperatures (0, 5, and 10 degrees C) was evaluated. Eggs of both species were the least tolerant of low temperatures. At 0 and 5 degrees C, pupae were most tolerant, but at 10 degrees C, nondiapausing larvae of both species were most tolerant, with lethal time (LT)95 values of 127 and 100 d for Indianmeal moth and navel orangeworm, respectively. The response of diapausing Indianmeal moth larvae to subfreezing temperatures also was evaluated. Diapausing larvae were very cold tolerant at -10 degrees C, with LT95 values of 20 and 17 d for long-term laboratory and recently isolated cultures, respectively. Diapausing larvae were far less tolerant at lower temperatures. At -15 degrees C, LT95 values for both cultures were <23 h, and at -20 degrees C, LT95 values were <7 h. Refrigeration temperatures of 0-5 degrees C should be useful in disinfesting product contaminated with nondiapausing insects, with storage times of 3 wk needed for adequate control. Relatively brief storage in commercial freezers, provided that the temperature throughout the product was below -15 degrees C for at least 48 h, also shows potential as a disinfestation treatment, and it is necessary when diapausing Indianmeal moth larvae are present.  相似文献
