Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence technique was employed to study the interactions of lead (50 and 100 mg/kg body wt) with K, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br and Rb in rat liver. Lead was administered orally to rats daily for dosage periods of 1 and 4 months (short and long terms). Hepatic Fe levels were found to increase significantly with the supplementation of low and high doses of lead for both the treatment periods, although the increase was more pronounced following long-term treatment. The levels of hepatic K, Cu and Br were seen to decrease significantly over both time intervals. Moreover, hepatic Rb contents were lowered with the short-term supplementation of low doses of lead. In contrast, Rb and Zn levels were increased when lead was administered for the longer period at both dose levels.  相似文献

Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence technique was employed to study the interactions among various elements, viz.: K, Zn, Br, Fe, Cu, Br & Rb in 4 groups of rats viz. control-GI, diabetic-GII (diabetes induced by i.p. administration of alloxan monohydrate at a dose level of 150 mg/kg b.w; single injection), lithium treated-GIII (lithium administered as Li2 Co3 at a dose level of 1.1 g of Li2 Co3/kg animal diet; free access; serum lithium levels--0.5-1.2 mEq/L) and lithium + diabetic rats-GIV. The different treatments continued for a total duration of 1 month. The K contents were found to be significantly lowered in all the treatment groups which was maximum (28%) in lithium treated diabetic rats. Depression in the levels of Rb was noticed in lithium treated and lithium treated diabetic (G-III and G-IV) groups. However, the levels (Rb) remained unaltered in diabetic (G-II) group. Interestingly, a significant decline was observed in Fe levels in G-III following lithium administration but the levels remained unchanged in G-IV with lithium administration to diabetic rats. On the other hand, lithium treatment to normal (G-III) and diabetic (G-IV) rats indicated statistically significant elevation in the levels of Cu and Br. However, diabetic (G-II) rats did not indicate any elevation in the levels of these two elements. Interestingly, the concentrations of Zn were found to be significantly elevated in all the treatment groups, which was maximum (37%) in G-III (lithium) group. A comparison of various elements from lithium treated diabetic group G-IV with the corresponding elements from the diabetic group G-II, implied a significant depression in K and Rb levels and a significant elevation in the levels of Br.  相似文献

Influence of trace elements in body metabolism and their physiological importance in various diseases have motivated their accurate and quantitative determination in biological tissues and fluids. Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) using short and long term irradiation has been employed to determine five minor elements (Cl, K, Na, Mg, P) and 15 trace elements (As, Br, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Rb, Sb, Se, Sc, Sr, and Zn) in cancerous and normal breast tissue from 30 patients of four clinical stages. Several elements show enhancement in cancerous breast tissue. Selenium shows maximum enhancement of 94.7% followed by K (81.6%), Sc (66.7%), Cu (58.2%), Na (48.5%), P (44.4%), and Zn (39.2%). Some element, such as Fe, Cr, and Mn, are depressed by 30.8, 30.1, and 12.8%, respectively. These elements compete for binding sites in the cell, change its enzymatic activity and exert direct or indirect action on the carcinogenic process accelerating the growth of tumors. This is further evidenced by histopathological examination of cancerous cells showing poor cytological differentiation. An attempt has been made to correlate trace element concentrations of Se, Cu, Zn, Rb, Br, Hg, As, Co, Fe, Cr, and Mn and the ratios of Se/Zn, K/P, Cu/Zn, Na/K, and Se/Fe with the clinical stages of cancer. Inhibition of enzymatic activity caused by variation in trace element concentrations results in immunological breakdown of the body system.  相似文献

Fourteen minor (Na, K, P, Fe) and trace (Br, Co, Cr, Cs, Hg, Rb, Sb, Se, Sr, Zn) elements have been determined in pre and postoperative blood samples of 10 breast-cancer-affected. Indian women and compared with controls. The study showed elevation of Cr, Hg, Fe, Rb, Sb, and Zn and lowering of Se, K, P, and Sr contents in the blood of cancer patients. Most elemental contents in pre and postoperative stages remain unaltered except Br, Co, and Sb. Statistical significance of Fe, Se, Zn, and Hg levels has been tested by box plots. Lowering of Se in blood (-54.4%) is correlated with its enhancement in cancerous breast tissue (94.7%) of various clinical stages. Se/Zn and Se/Fe ratios are lowered in the blood of cancer patients, whereas Na/K ratio is only marginally enhanced. An attempt has been made to correlate Se levels with the dietary intake and breast cancer risk vis-a-vis American and Japanese women.  相似文献

This work is an application of energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) as analytical technique for trace element determination in human tissues. Potassium (K), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), bromine (Br), rubidium (Rb) and lead (Pb) were determined directly in blood samples from 66 mothers at delivery after full-term pregnancies. The corresponding 66 cord-blood samples of the newborns were also analysed, in order to find element correlations between maternal and newborn blood at birth. The studied samples were obtained from mothers aged between 15 and 39 years old, the gestational age being between 35 and 41 weeks and the newborns' weight between 2.310 and 4.310 kg. Samples were lyophilised and analysed without any chemical treatment. Very low levels of Pb were found both in maternal and fetal cord blood samples. Cu values ranged from 3 to 13 microg g-1, both for mothers and children. A correlation between Cu and Fe concentrations in maternal and fetal cord blood was found. Zn is considered as one of the key elements in newborn health. Concentrations between 10 and 40 microg g-1 were measured. A positive correlation between Br levels in mothers and children was observed. Positive correlations for mothers were observed between Zn and Rb as well as K and Fe. The corresponding correlations in fetal cord blood samples were not observed, however positive correlations were found between Ca and K; Cu and Fe. The mean concentrations for each element were similar in maternal and in fetal cord blood, except for Cu and Zn, being higher in maternal samples. No correlations between element concentrations and pathologies of the mothers were observed.  相似文献

Concentrations of 8 trace elements (Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, Br, Pb, Rb, and Sr) at different lactation time were measured by the PIXE multi-elemental technique. Time dependence and interelement correlations were studied. A total of 200 milk samples from 32 lactating mothers were supplied from 2 to 120 d after delivery of 26 full-term and 6 preterm infants. All elements showed a lognormal frequency-distribution. The Fe, Cu, Zn, and Se contents in preterm milk were found to be somewhat different with respect to full-term milk. Cu, Zn, Se, Br, Pb, and Rb concentrations declined with lactation time, both in pre- and full-term samples. Sr and Fe contents did not show any change with time. Detailed analysis of data by partial correlation and multiple regression methods was performed. No substantial differences between preterm and full-term samples were found in the results of partial correlation analysis. Cu and Zn were found to be correlated with lactation time, whereas the measured time dependence for the other elements has to be attributed to the effect of the existing interelement correlation. All the measured elements appeared to be correlated with at least one other element. In particular, Se was inversely correlated with Zn and directly with Cu. The zinc and copper contents in milk can therefore depend on the variation in the mother selenium intake.  相似文献

For a case study of environmental pollution, radiochemical neutron activation analysis (RNAA) was applied to the crucian and rice collected along the Han River. The crucian was analyzed for three times in 1973, 1987, and 1990. Sixteen trace elements (Hg, Cd, As, Br, Cu, Na, K, Se, Cr, Hf, Rb, Fe, Zn, Co, La, and Cs) were determined by RNAA using distillation and diethyldithiocarbamate extraction methods. Contents of Na, K, Se, Hf, Fe, Zn, and Co were almost constant regardless of the sampling place and year. The contents of the other elements showed increasing trends down river, especially in the first investigation. At the lower part of the river, the contents showed decreasing trends with the time of sampling, especially during the first two investigations. These trends were typical for Hg and Cd. Rice was analyzed by the same method for 12 elements, and the results showed no regional trends, but have decreased after 1973.  相似文献

Hair trace element (TE) (Cr, Mn, Fe, Zn, Cu, Br, Rb, Sr, Pb) levels from 336 healthy subjects were measured by the Proton-Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) method. The subjects were divided in three groups: 157 full-term neonates (75 male and 82 female), 86 children (41 male and 45 female) ages 6 to 11 yr, and 93 adolescents (51 male and 42 female) 11 to 16 yr old. Cu, Zn, Cr, and Br show an increase from birth to 8 yr and then decrease. Fe, Mn, and Sr strongly decrease up to 8 yr and then remain almost stable. Sex differences are present in Fe, Zn, and Br of children and in Cu, Cr, and Br of adolescents.  相似文献

Determination of Rb, Br, Se, Zn, Cu, Fe, and Br/Rb ratio in tissues of mice inoculated with colon and melanoma cancer cells is described. A group of 19 Balb/c mice inoculated with C26 colon carcinoma, 4 C57B1/6 mice inoculated with B16 melanoma, and 13 control mice of both kinds were under investigation. The study was conducted on samples of blood, liver, kidneys, colon, and skin, and the trace element levels in normal and inoculated mice were compared. The inoculation was by subcutaneous injection either at the back or intrafootpad. The blood samples were taken 1, 2, and 3 wk after inoculation, and after 4 wk all the animals were sacrificed. Two nondestructive, complementary analytical methods were used: a modified X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for solid tissue and particleinduced X-ray emission (PIXE) for blood samples. The detection limit (DL) in the PIXE method was 0.35 (μg/g dry wt in 600 s counting time and in XRF, 1 μg/g dry sample for Rb, Br, Se and Zn and 2 μg/g for Cu and Fe in 200 s counting time. In all the cases studied, cancerous tissue developed at the site of the injection, and a significant difference in the trace element levels was observed between tissue samples obtained from normal and inoculated mice. The most pronounced effect was an increase in Rb level in the tumor by a factor ranging between 4 and 10 relative to normal tissue, with a corresponding decrease in the Br/Rb ratio (p < 0.05). Smaller changes were found in the Br, Se, Zn, and K levels. The changes in trace element levels in the inner organs were much smaller and seem to be influenced by the site of injection.  相似文献

The effect of automobile exhaust on the distribution of trace elements with special reference to Pb and its modulation following Cu, Zn, and Fe supplementation, in mouse organs, has been studied using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence technique. Seven elements, namely K, Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, Rb, and Pb, were detected in all the organs. The maximum concentration of Pb was found in lungs followed by that in liver and kidney. The effect of automobile exhaust was found to be significant on the concentrations of Fe and Pb; their concentrations were found to increase in all the organs. However, the concentrations of Cu and Zn were found to be decreased significantly in the liver. In the animals given Fe, Cu, or Zn supplementation along with motor exhaust, the percentage change in the concentration of Pb in lungs was decreased, and that of Fe was increased significantly. In kidney, no significant change was observed for the animals given Cu and Zn, whereas for animals given Fe, the level of Pb decreased significantly. In liver, the reduction in the level of Zn in the exhaust-exposed animals was made up and the level of Pb was reduced following Zn supplementation. These results clearly indicate that Fe and Zn play an important role in Pb metabolism and tend to lower the absorption of Pb. The effect of Fe is more pronounced than that of Zn, whereas the effect of Cu seems to be insignificant.  相似文献

The influence of atrioventricular block (AV-block) on the trace elemental status in a horse hair was studied. The particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) method has provided a reliable, rapid, easy, and relatively inexpensive diagnostic method. Twenty-five elements (Al, Br, Ca, Cl, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Nb, Ni, P, Pb, Rb, S, Se, Si, Ti, Y, and Zn) in mane hair and serum were measured by the PIXE method. A horse hair with first- and second-degree AV-block contained significantly greater amounts of Br, Ca, Sr, and Zn than those of horses without electrocardiographic abnormalities, whereas there was no significant differences in the elemental contents of the serum of the both groups. Those results in contents of a horse hair suggest that the evaluation of the degree of ionic imbalance by this method might be used to predict the susceptibility of a horse to heart disease much before symptoms appear.  相似文献

Lead pollution and its impact on the status of four other trace elements—Fe, Zn, Br, and Rb—have been studied in the whole blood samples of different population groups employing energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence technique. These population groups included normal, automobile workers and lead battery manufacturers. The maximum increase in the concentration of trace elements in the blood samples of automobile workers and battery manufacturers was observed for Pb, when compared with normal Pb-B levels. The effect of lead pollution had significantly reduced Zn levels in automobile workers. Fe-B levels in automobile workers had been found to be reduced significantly as compared to control, whereas in battery workers the reduction was not significant. The concentration of Br was greatly enhanced in the blood samples of automobile workers, whereas Rb-B levels were significantly higher in both the automobile and battery workers. Oral administration of lead acetate (100 mg/kg body wt) to experimental rats significantly decreased the activities of hepatic transaminases after 3 and 4 mo of treatment, whereas the activity of hepatic alkaline phosphatase decreased significantly after 4 mo of treatment. It is concluded from this study that higher Pb-B levels greatly influence the levels of other trace elements in human blood samples and also the activities of hepatic transaminases as well as alkaline phosphatase in experimental rats.  相似文献

For a case study of environmental contamination, radiochemical activation analysis has been applied to the crucians collected in the Han River. Sixteen trace elements (Hg, Cd, As, Br, Cu, Na, K, Se, Cr, Hf, Rb, Fe, Zn, Co, La, and Cs) were separated into three groups using distillation and diethyldithiocarbamate extraction methods, and their contents were determined by a single comparator method. Compared with the values 15 years ago, the values for mercury and cadmium have been drastically decreased at the middle and lower part of the river, but no typical change is found in other elements.  相似文献

Two nuclear techniques, Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis (EDXRF) and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA), were used to analyze aerosol samples collected in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Na, Cl, Mn, V, Al, Sm, Mo, W, La, As, Br, Sb, K, Ba, Se, Th, Cr, Rb, Ca, Fe, Ce, and Sc were determined by INAA, and Al, Si, P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sr, Hg, and Pb were determined by EDXRF. A preliminary identification of the main source of the atmospheric aerosol was performed based on enrichment factor and correlation coefficient calculations.

This work focuses on the determination of chemical elements in sweet oranges of variety Valencia produced under organic and conventional systems using instrumental neutron activation analysis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The distribution of chemical elements was variable among the fruit parts with usually higher concentrations of Br, Ca, Ce, K, La, Na, Rb, and Sc in the peel. However, K, Na, and Rb also presented high values in the juice samples, while Fe and Zn were higher in the seeds. Differences between organic and conventional oranges were found for Br and Cu.  相似文献

Feces, kidney, and small intestine were sampled from the mice bearing malignant ascites at different stages of tumor growth to investigate the kinetics of elemental distribution in the body. The contents of 14 elements in samples were determined by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). The elements Br, Cl, Cu, Na, Se, and Zn increased, whereas Mn and Rb decreased in kidney with the growth of the tumor. The elements Cl, Na, and Fe, however, appeared to have significantly different behavior in the small intestine.  相似文献

A investigation was undertaken to measure the presence of trace elements in some intracranial tumors using the instrumental neutron activation analysis technique. The following 20 minor and trace elements were investigated: Na, Mg, Al, P, Cl, K, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sb, I, and Cs. Our results are compared with other trace element analyses in human brain tissue.  相似文献

Gastric, hepatic, and pulmonary cancer cell lines, and the third passage of normal gastric and pulmonary cell lines were analyzed by proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) method. The contents of element Sr, Ca, Fe, Zn, P, K, Cu, and As in the cell lines were determined. The Sr, Ca, Fe, Zn, and As contents in cancer cell lines were significantly lower than those in the normal cell lines (p less than 0.05), whereas there were no significant differences for the P, K, and Cu contents (p greater than 0.1). The results suggest that the need of some essential elements has been diminished in cancer cell proliferation.  相似文献

Eight elements (i.e. K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, and Rb) were measured in 50 different regions of 12 normal human brains by particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis. The dry weight concentrations of K, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, and Rb were consistently higher for gray than for white matter areas. The K, Zn and Se concentrations for the regions of mixed composition and, to some extent, also the Rb concentrations, were intermediate between the gray and white matter values, and they tended to decrease with decreasing neuron density. The mean dry weight concentrations of K, Ca, Zn, Se, and Rb in the various brain regions were highly correlated with the mean wet-to-dry weight ratios of these regions. For Mn, Fe, and Cu, however, such a correlation was not observed, and these elements exhibited elevated levels in several structures of the basal ganglia. For K, Fe, and Se the concentrations seemed to change with age. A hierarchical cluster analysis indicated that the structures clustered into two large groups, one comprising gray and mixed matter regions, the other white and mixed matter areas. Brain structures involved in the same physiological function or morphologically similar regions often conglomerated in a single subcluster.  相似文献

The trace elements of both calcified atherosclerotic plaques and plaque-free vessel walls of the carotid bifurcation from 31 autopsies were investigated using the proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) method. The trace elements studied were phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), chrome (Cr), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), selenium (Se), bromine (Br), strontium (Sr), and rubidium (Rb). All samples contained Fe and Zn. Mercury (Hg) was not detected in any of the samples studied. All plaque-free samples contained Cu and almost all Br and Ca, none Sr. All calcified atherosclerotic plaques contained Ca and almost all Br and Sr. The relative levels of Ca were higher in the calcified plaques than in the plaque-free vessel walls. The relative value of Ca in calcified and uncalcified samples was greatest in the group who had died because of cardiovascular disorders and smallest in the group who had died from other causes. There was a strong positive correlation between the Ca and Sr of the plaque samples and between the P and Br of the plaque-free samples.  相似文献
