Nine polymorphic isoenzymatic systems were studied in 39 cultivated sunflower populations originating from ten countries. Analysis of combining abilities with four tester lines was also performed on these populations for seed yield, seed moisture and seed oil content. The MDH, PGI, PGD and GOT systems appeared to provide the best discrimination of specific combining ability effects with the four testers. Summary A full diallel cross among four diverse homozygous strains of dry edible beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was evaluated for yield, protein content, and culinary quality traits in the F2 and F3 generations in two locations. Interpretation of diallel effects [Method 1 Model I] using a fixed-effect genetic model made it possible to combine data from two generations into a single analysis and quantify the relative contributions of additive and dominance genetic effects to general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining abilities. GCA was found to arise from three potential sources: additive effects, dominance interactions at homozygous loci, and average dominance interactions in hybrids involving the parent in question. SCA was found to be a function solely of dominance. Additive effects were the primary determinant of GCA and were highly significant. Specific dominance interactions were significant for seed yield, cooked bean moisture content, and texture but not for protein content. Texture was the only trait for which the additive-dominance model failed to provide an adequate fit to the data, suggesting that texture is significantly affected by epistatic interaction. One cross (Brazil-2 × Sanilac) was identified that exhibited a large heterotic effect for seed yield although the parents' additive effects were nonsignificant. Summary Two sets of diallel crosses involving seven tetraploid and five hexaploid alfalfa lines, previously selected for seed and forage yield, are studied. On the basis of combining ability and heritability estimates the following conclusion is drawn. The dominant and epistatic interactions (heterozygosity) are the major components in the expression of variability for yield and characters associated with yield in tetraploid populations. In hexaploid populations, however, there is an appreciable amount of additive variance, and the additive effect of genes along with interaction of various forms may account for the expressed variability for all the characters studied. Better genes and desirable interactions (possibly through heterozygosity) are the two essential genetic components of yield. The selection of better genes is feasible, but by itself will not produce the desired results. Future improvement may therefore depend on the utilization of heterosis and other forms of interactions. There is, in general, a very strong genetic correlation between yield and its components, and therefore, when a direct selection for yield is not feasible, the selection program may rely on a number of closely related characters.  相似文献

Crosses were made between five cytoplasmic male-sterile and five restorer sunflower inbred lines. Twenty-five F1 hybrids and their parents were studied for their organogenesis ability in a randomized block design with four replications. Each replication per genotype consisted of ten petri dishes with four expiants. Regeneration medium consisted of full MS medium modified by the addition of hormones and solidified with 6 g/l agar. Statistical analysis showed that both general and specific combining abilities were significant for all of the organogenesis parameters studied, and both showed several significant positive or negative values. General combining ability values were usually higher than those of specific combining ability, indicating the importance of additive genetic control for organogenesis parameters in sunflower. Narrow-sense heritability for the number of explants producing shoots and roots was 65.8%, which suggests that organogenesis of currently inferior inbred lines in sunflower should be improved in a crossing program.  相似文献

On the basis of simulated data, this study compares the relative performances of the Bayesian clustering computer programs structure , geneland , geneclust and a new program named tess . While these four programs can detect population genetic structure from multilocus genotypes, only the last three ones include simultaneous analysis from geographical data. The programs are compared with respect to their abilities to infer the number of populations, to estimate membership probabilities, and to detect genetic discontinuities and clinal variation. The results suggest that combining analyses using tess and structure offers a convenient way to address inference of spatial population structure.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess five cacao cultivars (selfs) and 20 hybrids with regard to their general-and specific-combining ability for yield components using method 1, model I, of the diallel analysis system. The selfings and the hybrids were obtained through controlled crossings, tested in the field in a random block design with four replications and plots containing 16 plants. The experiment was set up in the Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau, in Itabuna, Bahia, Brasil, in 1975. The characteristics studied were: the number of healthy and collected fruits per plant (NHFP and NCFP), the weight of humid seeds per plant and per fruit (WHSP and WHSF), and the percentage of diseased fruits per plant (PDFP), for 5 years (1986–1990). The F-test values, highly significant for general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA), demonstrated the existence of variability for both effects. However, the effects of SCA were greater than those of GCA, when compared in terms of the average squared effects. This condition held for the characteristics NHFP, NCFP and WHSP, which shows the relative importance of the non-additive genetic effects over the additive effects. The reciprocal effects did not show significance. Breeding methods which explore the additive portion of genetic variance should be employed for obtaining higher-yielding cacao and high seed weight. For this, the segregant populations should involve cultivars CEPEC 1, SIAL 169 and ICS 1. Combinations involving the cultivar ICS 1 presented the most favorable results for the characteristics WHSP and WHSF, where the hybrid SIAL 169 x ICS 1 and its reciprocal were outstanding.  相似文献

对7个粳稻(Oryza sativa L. sub sp. kcng)品种按双列杂交方式配成的21个杂交组合进行花药培养,测定它们的愈伤组织诱导率和绿苗分化率。统计分析表明,基因型变异方差、一般配合力方差及特殊配合力方差均达到极显著水平。对亲本的一般配合力效应和组合的特殊配合力效应也进行了估算。研究表明,粳稻花药培养力是可遗传的,用高培养力的材料做亲本以提高杂种花粉植株的产量是有效的。此外还观察到供体植株在小孢子单核晚期前10天左右遇到特殊低温会使愈伤组织诱导率下降。  相似文献

Relatively few studies conducted in natural plants populations focus on the relationship between seed size and their germination ability and seedling establishment. Maianthemum bifolium is a perennial herb that spreads vegetatively through rhizomatous growth and reproduces through seeds. However, this species is characterized as seed and microsite limited, and under undisturbed conditions seedlings are not noted. The studies were conducted in two populations of M. bifolium in six subsequent seasons. The mean seed mass was negatively correlated both per ramet as well as in the fruit with the number of seeds, and positively with its height and the number of flowers. The long-term mean annual production of seeds in the populations was 37 and 56 seeds per m2. The seeds from both populations had similarly high germination abilities that were approximately 90% under laboratory conditions, 60% in garden, and 55% in the natural habitat. Seeds from four size classes were sown and a positive correlation was noted between seedling establishment and the mass of the seeds from which they grew (rS = 0.64). Seedling survival was also significantly correlated with seed mass.  相似文献

Several recent theoretical considerations of mating-system evolution predict within-population covariation between levels of inbreeding depression and genetically controlled mating-system characters. If inbreeding depression is caused by deleterious recessive alleles, families with characters that promote self-pollination should show lower levels of inbreeding depression than families with characters that promote outcrossing. The converse is expected if inbreeding depression is due to overdominant allelic interactions. Whether these associations between mating-system and viability loci evolve will have important consequences for mating-system evolution. The evolution of selfing within the genus Mimulus is associated with a reduction in stigma-anther separation (i.e., a loss of herkogamy) and high autogamous seed set. In this study we compared families from two M. guttatus populations that differed genetically in their degree of stigma-anther separation. In one of these populations we also compared families that differed genetically in the degree to which they autogamously set seed in a pollinator-free greenhouse. Dams often differed significantly in levels of inbreeding depression for aboveground biomass and flower production, but variation in inbreeding depression was never explained by herkogamy class or autogamy class. Several factors might account for why families with traits associated with selfing did not show lower inbreeding depression, and these are discussed. Our study also demonstrated significant variation among self progeny from a given female likely due to differences in pollination date and position of fruit maturation. The detection of significant dam × sire interactions suggests biparental inbreeding or differences in combining ability for specific pairs of parents.  相似文献

The low percentage of callus induction and green-plant regeneration has limited the application of anther culture techniques in indica rice breeding programmes. The aim of this work was to investigate the inheritance of the two characters and to determine whether good combinations with high-frequency callus induction and green-plant regeneration could be selected by sexual hybridization of suitable parents. So, a 3 × 4 incomplete diallel crosses were conducted between 7 parental lines. Three of them were believed to possess relatively high callus induction capacity and the other four relatively high green-plant regeneration capacity, based on our previous studies. Analysis of combining abilities and heritabilities revealed that both additive and non-additive effects were found to be important in the genetic control of callus induction. In case of green-plant regeneration, non-additive effects were predominant. Broad sense heritability values of 0.92 for callus induction and 0.98 for green-plant regeneration suggested that more than 90% of the observed variation was due to genetic effects, with just less than 10% attributed to non-genetic or environmental effects. In addition, the moderate narrow sense heritability values of 0.49 for callus induction, 0.29 for green-plant regeneration showed that the potential to introduce high responding ability into low lines was moderate. It was therefore conceivable that the frequency of anther culture response might be improved by suitable hybridization and selection strategies. A hybrid combination of code no. 67/107 incorporating high callus induction and high green-plant regeneration ability was selected in which genotype with high values of general combining ability (GCA) and positive effects of specific combining ability (SCA).  相似文献

The estimates of contemporary gene flow assessed based on naturally established seedlings provide information much needed for understanding the abilities of forest tree populations to persist under global changes through migration and/or adaptation facilitated by gene exchange among populations. Here, we investigated pollen‐ and seed‐mediated gene flow in two mixed‐oak forest stands (consisting of Quercus robur L. and Q. petraea [Matt.] Liebl.). The gene flow parameters were estimated based on microsatellite multilocus genotypes of seedlings and adults and their spatial locations within the sample plots using models that attempt to reconstruct the genealogy of the seedling cohorts. Pollen and seed dispersal were modelled using the standard seedling neighbourhood model and a modification—the 2‐component seedling neighbourhood model, with the later allowing separation of the dispersal process into local and long‐distance components. The 2‐component model fitted the data substantially better than the standard model and provided estimates of mean seed and pollen dispersal distances accounting for long‐distance propagule dispersal. The mean distance of effective pollen dispersal was found to be 298 and 463 m, depending on the stand, while the mean distance of effective seed dispersal was only 8.8 and 15.6 m, which is consistent with wind pollination and primarily seed dispersal by gravity in Quercus. Some differences observed between the two stands could be attributed to the differences in the stand structure of the adult populations and the existing understory vegetation. Such a mixture of relatively limited seed dispersal with occasional long distance gene flow seems to be an efficient strategy for colonizing new habitats with subsequent local adaptation, while maintaining genetic diversity within populations.  相似文献

Isoenzyme analysis of 5 populations of Chamaenerion angustifolium (L.) Scop. from different habitats revealed that only two of the nine enzymes scored were polymorphic. The estimated number of polymorphic loci was 2 out of 16. The only significant difference found was with regard to the gene and genotype frequencies of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH). This difference could be demonstrated for established populations, occurring on contrasting soils but not for their seed populations.The genetic similarity between seed populations even in a sample obtained from only four established individuals was striking and its consequences for the life strategy and colonizing ability of the species are discussed. Genotypic differentiation due to age structure was not present. Genotype-dependent selection occurs in the seedling phase only.  相似文献

African marigold (Tagetes erecta L.), a major source of carotenoids, is also grown as a cut flower and a garden flower in addition to being grown for its medicinal values. We studied gene action, combining ability and heterosis, aiming at genetic improvement of T. erecta for enhanced carotenoid content in petals, and report for the first time that heterosis can be exploited for total carotenoids and its commercially important fractions. Total content of carotenoids and lutein appears to be governed by dominance (or non-additive) gene action, while content of xanthophyll esters is governed by both additive and dominance (or non-additive) gene actions. Specific combining ability variance was predominant for all the three traits. General and specific combining abilities and heterosis were highly significant. Heterobeltiosis was also positive. General combining ability (GCA) variances were not significantly correlated to performance per se. There was also no correlation between performance per se of normal petalled pollen parents and the performance of crosses made between male-sterile (female) and male-fertile (pollen) parents. These findings suggest that carotenoid content should not be the only criterion considered in the selection of parental lines. Studies on esterase in seeds and peroxidase in seedlings revealed a relatively high level of polymorphism in esterase with a total of 14 isoforms, whereas peroxidase showed low polymorphism. Similarity indices between different parental combinations, calculated based on seed esterase polymorphism, showed a significant negative correlation (r = -0.479, P = 0.05) with heterosis for carotenoid content. This indicates that the selection of parents with wider variation in their esterase profiles may possibly be exploited for genetic enhancement of carotenoids in T. erecta.  相似文献

 以系统揭示其表型变异程度和变异规律为目的,对祁连山青海云杉(Picea crassifolia )天然分布区的10个群体的8个种实性状进行了比较分析。采用方差分析、多重比较,相关分析、聚类分析等多种分析方法,对群体间和群体内的表型多样性进行了讨论。方差分析结果表明,各种实性状在群体间都存在极显著差异,除球果干质量和球果长/球果径外,其余性状在群体内都存在着极显著的差异;表型分化系数即群体间变异为27.18%,小于群体内的变异(72.82%);球果长、球果径、球果干质量、球果形状指数、种子长、种子宽、千粒重和种子形状指数的变异系数分别为:10.08%、5.80%、19.29%、9.66%、8.38%、15.34%、6.52%和13.94%;8个种实性状间多数呈极显著或显著的正相关,球果干质量、种子长、千粒重、球果长和球果径为青海云杉易测定和重要的种实性状;种实性状呈现出以经度变异为主的梯度规律性;通过表型性状的聚类分析可以将青海云杉10个群体划分为4类。  相似文献

Summary Stability analysis on 7 parent varieties and all their possible crosses (excluding reciprocals) in generations F1 to F5 are reported. The regression coefficient (b) of the parents ranged from 0.66 (Sonalika) to 1.34 (Kalyansona). On the average the b value was lower in F3 (.87) and F2 (.88) followed by F1 (1.04), F4 (1.06) and F5 (1.16). Phenotypic stability appeared to be associated with genetic constitution of the parents as well as level of heterozygosity and heterogeneity of the populations. Distinct differences were observed in general combining ability values for regression coefficients among the parents, indicating transmissibility of this trait. However, no such trend was observed for deviation mean squares. The data on yield and stability parameters showed that high mean yield is not necessarily associated with average regression, indicating the possibility of combining high mean yield with high stability.  相似文献

Spatial structure and fine-scale genetic structure were analyzed for the medicinal plant American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) to more fully understand biological processes within wild populations. P. quinquefolius has been harvested for more than 250 years and is now considered threatened or rare throughout its range. Plants within four protected and four unprotected populations were significantly clumped based on Ripley's univariate analysis. Analysis with Ripley's bivariate test determined that juvenile plants were significantly clumped with adult plants at the shortest distance classes in all populations. Although plants were highly clumped, we found that significant fine-scale genetic structure was restricted to the shortest distance classes based on estimates of coancestry (f(ij)). In most cases, estimates of f(ij) were more significant among juveniles than among adults, especially at the shortest distance classes. The spatial structure of ginseng seems to result from the establishment and persistence of plants in favorable microhabitats coupled with limited seed dispersal around maternal individuals. There were no differences in patterns of fine-scale genetic structure between protected and unprotected populations.  相似文献

Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) contributing to yellow seed colour and acid detergent fibre (ADF) were localized and compared in 3 mapping populations developed from 2 crosses (designated 'YE1' and 'YE2') between 2 distinct sources of true-breeding yellow-seeded oilseed rape (Brassica napus) and 2 different black-seeded genotypes. A clear correlation was observed between seed colour and ADF content in both crosses. In all 3 populations, a major QTL, with a large effect on both seed colour and ADF in multiple environments, was detected at the same position on chromosome N18. In YE1, a second minor QTL, with a small effect on seed colour but not on ADF content, was localized on chromosome N1. In YE2, no QTL was observed on N1; however, 2 minor seed-colour loci were localized to N15 and N5. A second major QTL for ADF was localized in YE1 on N13; in YE2, no other QTLs for ADF were detected. Combined QTL and segregation data for seed colour and ADF content in the different populations suggest that a partially dominant B. napus gene for seed colour on N18 contributes to a reduction in fibre content in different yellow-seeded B. napus genotypes. The other QTLs that were identified appear to represent different genes in the 2 yellow-seeded rapeseed sources, which, in each case, affect only fibre content or seed colour, respectively. Potential candidate genes and implications for marker-assisted breeding of oilseed rape with reduced seed dietary fibre content are discussed.  相似文献

Summary A set of 167 mucromphs was evaluated in their F1 generation for seven plant, four plot and five ratio characters. Methods of characterizing the parents and the hybrids on the basis of combining ability effects described in the first part were found to be efficient in identifying desirable cross combinations for pedigree breeding or generating composite populations. Order effects of multiple-pollen combinations were found to be potent for a number of character components. High x Low cross-combinations were found to produce a high frequency of heterotic crosses followed by High x High. Selected biparental progenies, single crosses, three-way crosses and elite varieties were successful female parents and combinations of pollen from two varieties, one variety and three varieties were successful male parents, in that order, in producing significant heterosis in mucromphs. The relationship between general and specific combining ability on the one hand and realised heterosis on the other was discussed.  相似文献

Summary The data from an experiment in cotton consisting of three testers and 12 lines selected deliberately have been analysed. The investigation showed higher specific combining ability variance for yield of seed cotton and number of bolls, indicating the predominance of non-additive gene action. Of parental lines, H777 was found to possess high g.c.a. effects for seed cotton yield, number of bolls and number of sympodes. Parent H842 contributed only for boll weight, whereas H655 was good general combiner for number of monopodes. There appeared to be better chances for increasing the yield by exploiting hybrid vigour for the number of bolls and boll weight. The presence of marked non-additive gene effects, in addition to additive gene effects, indicated the need for exploiting both the fixable and non-fixable components of genetic variance for increasing productivity in cotton.  相似文献
