The Arctogadus glacialis is endemic to the Arctic Ocean and its apparently disjunct circumpolar distribution range from the Siberian coast through the Chukchi Sea and the Canadian Arctic to the shelf off NE Greenland. Records of A. glacialis are scarce in the European Arctic and here we present all available and reliable records of the species in the area. Altogether, 296 specimens of A. glacialis are reported from 53 positions in the European Arctic during the period 1976–2008. The specimens were registered off Iceland and the Jan Mayen Island, northwest and northeast of Svalbard, northeast in the Barents Sea, and south and east off Franz Josef Land. The additional records show that A. glacialis display a circumpolar and more continuous distribution than described before. In the European Arctic, A. glacialis has been caught at 155–741 m depth with the highest abundance at 300–400 m. We therefore suggest that A. glacialis is more associated to the continental shelves surrounding the Arctic Ocean than previously thought. The length–weight relation of A. glacialis is similar across the European Arctic.  相似文献

We provide mitochondrial sequence variation of the invasive fish Gambusia holbrooki from 24 European populations, from Portugal to Greece. Phylogeographic structure in Europe was compared with genetic data from native samples (USA) and historical records were reviewed to identify introduction routes. Overall, data agree with records of historical introductions and translocations, and indicate that the most abundant haplotype throughout Europe originated from North Carolina and corresponded to the first introduction in 1921 to Spain, being transferred to Italy in 1922 and to many countries afterwards. Our results also show that at least another independent introduction occurred first in France and subsequently from France to Greece. Haplotypes of G. affinis were not detected in our European sampling effort but historical records and other data suggest that this species was introduced to Italy in 1927 and it might be present. At the continental scale, there is less diversity in Europe than in North America, in agreement with the low number of introduced fish. At the local scale, some European populations gained diversity from multiple introductions and from “de novo” mutations.  相似文献

Among plant remains from Mesolithic layers dating from 9249 to 7779 B.C. at the excavation site of Friesack IV in north-eastern Germany, nutlets of Urtica kioviensis were identified. Morphological studies have shown that they clearly differed from all other European Urtica species investigated. In contrast, pollen morphological investigations revealed only slight differences between the central European Urtica species, which could hardly have been noticed during routine or normal pollen analyses. The records of U. kioviensis nutlets are the first subfossil finds reported and prove the indigenous status of this taxon in north-eastern Germany. The records are discussed in the context of the overall species spectrum of the Mesolithic layers and consequences for the interpretation of pollen analytical studies concerning human impact are pointed out. This paper is dedicated to the memory of the botanist and palaeoecologist Klaus Kloss (1934–2004).  相似文献

A comprehensive literature review on prevalence and distribution of parasites of the European eel (Anguilla anguilla) in European waters was conducted to set a baseline for future trend analyses and biodiversity considerations. The resulting checklist compiled from peer reviewed journals as well as grey literature including scientific reports, conference contributions, PhD theses and own survey data includes all protozoan and metazoan parasites of the European eel from freshwater, brackish and marine habitats. Parasites are arranged according to phylum and family. Species within families are listed alphabetically. Infected host organs, recorded habitats, localities, countries and literature citations are provided for each species. A total of 161 parasite species ? taxa from 30 countries are listed. With the trypanorhynch cestode Tentacularia coryphaenae a new host record could be documented. Furthermore, three new locality records of parasitic nematodes could be added based on own survey data: Anisakis simplex from an eel caught in the Baltic Sea, Eustrongylides mergorum for German freshwaters, and Goezia anguillae from the Tagus estuary in Portugal. Special consideration was given to the distribution of the swimbladder nematode Anguillicola crassus. A map and table of first reported records of this neozoan parasite species for 25 countries as well as a survey map indicating all published localities documented in the checklist are provided.  相似文献

  • 1 The European roe deer Capreolus capreolus is a typical faunal element of the Holocene. It was already present in Europe at least 600 000 years ago and it has been known from both glacial and interglacial phases since then. With nearly 3000 fossil and subfossil records, it is one of the most frequent mammals in the Late Quaternary.
  • 2 During the Middle and Late Weichselian Pleniglacial, the distribution of the roe deer was not restricted to the Mediterranean peninsulas but repeatedly reached regions of central Europe. In contrast to that, roe deer records from the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, 21.0–14.5 ka 14C BP) are largely confined to the Mediterranean peninsulas – with the exception of south‐western France and the surroundings of the Carpathians where several records attest to its occurrence during the LGM.
  • 3 During the Greenland Interstadial 1 (12.5–10.8 ka 14C BP), the species' distribution extended further north and the roe deer appeared north of the Alps and reached regions of central Germany. This seems to be correlated with the abrupt change to more favourable environmental conditions during this period. It is very likely that the roe deer disappeared north of the Alps during the Younger Dryas cooling (10.8–10.0 ka14C BP). The northern regions of the central European lowlands were recolonized by roe deer during the late Preboreal 9.7–9.5 ka 14C BP for the first time since the Weichselian Glacial.
  • 4 The combined pattern of genetic data and fossil records of European roe deer suggests several regions in the Iberian peninsula, southern France, Italy and the Balkans as well as in the Carpathians and/or eastern Europe as glacial refugia. It further suggests that C. capreolus might have recolonized most parts of central‐northern Europe out of one or more eastern European (not Balkan) and/or Carpathian refugia. This recolonization wave might have blocked immigration from the traditional Mediterranean areas.

The only microscopic slide of Diacheopsis metallica studied by Charles Meylan conserved in Lausanne was examined, and a neotype was proposed for this species. Diacheopsis metallica is compared with other European and American collections and with Diacheopsis kowalskii. Both species are considered distinct due to differences in spore size and morphology of the capillitium. Light microscope and scanning electron microscope photographs of D. metallica and D. kowalskii are presented; the species are new records for Spain.  相似文献

The European Sunflower MothHomoeosoma nebulella Denis & Schiffermüller is a potential pest on sunflower in France. The parasitoids of this moth are little known. We present here original data obtained in the south of France together with previous survey. Some parasitoids we found were new records onH. nebulella. The relative weakness of the parasite complex ofH. nebulella (less than 15 species) compared to that of the American Sunflower MothH. electellum (Hulst) is discussed.  相似文献

Aim The highly adaptable estuarine crab (Carcinus maenas) has successfully invaded five temperate geographic regions outside of its native Europe. Here, we determine which environmental factors predict the current distribution of C. maenas and what the potential geographic range of this species might be. We also investigated whether the invasion potential of C. maenas differs with respect to the origin of a native subpopulation. Location Models were developed using global observation records of C. maenas. Methods Boosted regression trees were used to model observations from the (1) native, (2) invasive, (3) southern European, (4) northern European and (5) the combined native and invasive geographic ranges of C. maenas. Results Most established invasions were predicted mainly based on temperature. Interestingly, the environment encountered by established invasions failed to predict the majority of northern European populations; suggesting that invasion potential may differ between distinct native populations. Supporting this suggestion, a model of northern European populations, distinguished from southern European populations based on genetic structure, only predicted established invasions south of Nova Scotia. By contrast, a model of southern European populations predicted most established invasions. Main conclusions These results suggest that invasion potential depends on the European origin of an invasive population and that most invasions have arisen from southern Europe. Finally, a model based on combined native and invasive ranges of C. maenas identified potential geographic range extension along many currently invaded coastlines and the potential invasion of countries like Chile, China, Russia, Namibia and New Zealand.  相似文献

Records of the predaceous diving beetles of the genus Eretes Laporte, 1833 (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) in Central Europe are summarised. While old records from the beginning of the twentieth century from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania belong to Eretes griseus (Fabricius, 1781), a species which has not been recaptured in Central Europe for nearly the last hundred years, recently collected specimens from Hungary and Slovakia belong to E. sticticus (Linnaeus, 1767) and represent its first records in these countries as well as in Central Europe. The first specimens were collected at light during hot summer nights and may document a recent spreading of the species from the Mediterranean. In addition, the occurrence of E. sticticus is formally confirmed in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Libya, South European Territory of Russia, and Tunisia.  相似文献

Some new or rare Chrysophyceae from the English Lake District   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Summary Tetrasporopsis pseudofenestrata and Chrysolykos gracilis are new species. Chrysococcus cystophorus f. astigmata Skuja and Cyclonexis uraliensis Pochmann are new British records. Chrysolykos planctonicus Mack was recorded but not named by Scourfield (1930).The taxonomy of Cyclonexis Stokes is confused. It is uncertain whether C. annularis Stokes and C. erinus Jane are separate species but, if they are, the only definite records of the former are from the U.S.A. The known British populations of C. erinus seem to lack discobolocystes though Hovasse (1949) doubts this. The other European populations may or may not possess these organs.  相似文献

The recently described, terricolous and corticolous, sorediate lichen Lecanora flavoleprosa (belonging to the L. symmicta group) is for the first time recorded from the Carpathians. So far, this rare European species has only been reported from a few localities in the Austrian and Swiss Alps, and Fennoscandia (Norway and Sweden). In this paper several records from the Polish and Slovak Tatra Mts are presented, most of them found recently, but a few also discovered during revision of old material collected by Z. Tobolewski. The ecology and chemistry of the taxon, and differences from related sorediate Lecanora species are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Hemiurid worms from the stomach of the angler Lophius piscatorius off Corsica are described and considered to belong to a Japanese species, Dinosoma lophiomi Toman, 1973, which was originally described from an Indo-Pacific lophiid host. The apparent disjunctive distribution of this species and apparent differences in the terminal genitalia between the European and Japanese specimens are discussed. This is the first record of Dinosoma Manter, 1934 from the Mediterranean Sea. The validity of diagnostic features of Adinosoma Manter, 1947 is commented upon, and lists of records of species of Dinosoma and digeneans from L. piscatorius in the Western Mediterranean are included.  相似文献

Despite extensive zoogeographical and taxonomical studies in the subgenus Mus, several issues still remain unresolved. In this context, the distribution area of the mound-building mouse, Mus spicilegus, remains undetermined at the southernmost parts of the species’ range, possibly due to low population densities and seasonal character of mound building. The new records from Greece, presented here, significantly expand the knowledge on Mus spicilegus distribution but also reveal eastern Greek populations which are genetically differentiated from all the other Greek and European ones. These results support an additional colonization route to eastern Greece as part of the migration and expansion process of the mound building mouse in Europe.  相似文献

Fruits, seeds and embryos of Pimenta officinalis Lindl. syn. Pimenta dioica (L.) Merr. (Myrtaceae) have been found in Gdask (northern Poland) in latrines dated to the 18th century. This is one of the first few records of allspice from European archaeobotanical material. The paper presents morphological criteria used for the identification of allspice or myrtle pepper remains and briefly summarises the information on the introduction of this species to the Old World.  相似文献

Abstract

All the southern hemisphere records of the European species of Gymnomitrion are rejected. Crenarion, sect.nov., is proposed. It is restricted to the northern hemisphere and comprises G. crenulatum (temperate eu-Atlantic coast of Europe), G. sinense (Yunnan, Nepal) and G. pacificum, sp.nov. (boreal Pacific coast of North America, central Japan). These three species are figured and described in detail. Gymnomitrion verrucosum is transferred to Marsupella.  相似文献

The cores from the Albano and Nemi lakes, near Rome, were studied within the European Union funded PALICLAS project and provided high resolution records of the Late-glacial and Holocene. Pollen evidence of increasing human influence on vegetation was recorded in the Holocene parts of both diagrams, and the Cannabis (hemp) curve was one of the major signs. In this paper we present unambiguous pollen evidence from the Cannabaceae records for the cultivation of hemp in central Italy by the Romans. The oldest records of Cannabis and Humulus (hop) date from to the Late-glacial. Hop pollen values rise during the mid Holocene, while hemp pollen becomes more abundant from ca. 3000 cal B.P. onwards. The highest earliest hemp peak (21%) is dated to the 1st century A.D. This ‘Cannabis phase’, with the abrupt rise of hemp pollen soon after the rise of cultivated trees (Castanea, Juglans and Olea) is associated with the increase in cereals and ruderal plants. This unambiguous proof of cultivation by Romans around 2000 B.P. occurs as well as a long lasting pre-Roman presence of hemp in the area, which is natural and possibly also anthropogenic. Subsequent clear episodes of cultivation in the medieval period were found. Since 2008 there have been many records in Europe (British Isles, Spain, France, Italy) of a large terrestrial planarian morphologically very similar to the Brazilian species Obama marmorata. Sequences of mitochondrial (Cox1) and nuclear (18S, 28S, ITS‐1 and EF) genes from European specimens and some from Brazil indicate that they belong to a species different from that of other specimens also collected in Brazil. Moreover, the phylogenetic results show that they are not sister‐species. Histological sections of both Brazilian and European specimens reveal subtle morphological differences between the two species. Obama marmorata is confined to Brazil, and the second, herein described new species, O bama nungara sp. nov. , is found in Brazil and Europe. These cryptic species may be syntopic in areas in Brazil. The new species occurs in human‐modified environments both in Brazil and in Europe. We also conclude that the specimens from Spain and Argentina identified previously as Obama marmorata belong to the new species.  相似文献

Abstract

Taxonomy of some European species of Ephemerum is reviewed. As in several other recent studies, E. minutissimum Lindb. is regarded as a distinct species from E. serratum (Hedw.) Hampe; it is recorded from N. America (by the newly designated lectotype and other specimens) and Turkey, in addition to Europe. E. serratum var. angustifolium Bruch & Schimp. may be a synonym of E. minutissimum; the costate forms E. serratum var. praecox A.W.H.Walther & Molendo and E. intermedium Mitt. in Braithw. are treated as synonyms of E. serratum s.str. Type specimens of E. stellatum H.Philib. are described, a lectotype is designated and it is placed as a synonym of E. serratum s.str. E. hibernicum Holyoak & V.S.Bryan is regarded as a synonym of E. rutheanum Schimp. in Ruthe. The latter is shown to be a rare, European endemic taxon with modern records from Ireland, S. Wales, Germany and The Netherlands, and old records from France and W. Poland; a lectotype is designated. Forms intermediate between E. sessile (Bruch.) Müll.Hal. and the N. American E. crassinervium (Schwägr.) Hampe occur in several countries in W. Europe, some of them indistinguishable from some of the American plants; forms intermediate between E. sessile and E. rutheanum are recorded from S. Portugal and (rarely) Ireland. Differences between E. crassinervium, E. sessile and E. rutheanum in characters of leaves, tubers and capsules are shown to be slight, with considerable overlap. Hence all three taxa are treated as subspecies of E. crassinervium. A revised key to European Ephemerum and Micromitrium is presented.  相似文献
