Three stages of morphogenesis of the nasal apparatus of the red deer (Cervus elaphus L.) were studied. Many ancestral traits reminiscent of relationships in other mammals and even in reptiles were found, including a cart, ectochoanalis, paraseptal cartilages, the septum nasi and its ventral trabecular enlargement, a lamina transversalis ant., clear separation of the cart, parietotectalis and cart, paranasalis from each other and a crista semicircularis. A maxilloturbinale, was present, but not a nasoturbinale. The main specific features were a completely rostrally localized, peculiar cartilaginous structure in the preseptal space, for which there is as yet no morphological explanation, and pronounced bulging of the cartilaginous wall of the nasal capsule in a ventrolateral direction, level with the rostral region of the olfactory labyrinth (caudally to the aboral end of the maxilloturbinale). In the early stages of morphogenesis, it was found that the ethmoturbinalia might be formed by fusion of the edges of the anlagen of the paranasal cartilage and the lamina orbitonasalis. The structure of the olfactory labyrinth was reminiscent of its organization in the sheep embryo; the recessus frontalis was completed by a series of frontoturbinal recesses and frontoturbinalia, which are poorly developed in the red deer, however. The floor of the caudal part of the nasal capsule was very little developed and there was no cart, paraseptalis post.  相似文献

The author studied the morphogenesis of the nasal apparatus in a sheep (Ovis aries L.) embryo with a length of 57 mm, at the optimum stage of development of the chondrocranium, as a part of his studies of development of the nasal apparatus in ungulates. The nasal apparatus is in general constructed according to the general scheme for mammals. Attention is drawn to the development of the superior alar cartilage, which is reminiscent of the situation in reptiles, to the strikingly developed atriturbinale auctorum (the author does not agree with this morphological designation, which is reserved for the vestibular turbinale in birds), to the well developed anterior paraseptal complex, to the extremely large maxilloturbinale and to the massive trunk of the ethmoturbinale I, which suppresses the corresponding recesses. The olfactory labyrinth is developed at three levels, the upper (rostral) level corresponding to the frontoturbinalia region, the middle to the ethmoturbinale I and the third (caudal) level to the region of the ethmoturbinalia II, III and IV (the recessus ethmoturbinalis). There is no foramen epiphaniale, no crista semicircularis and no crista Galli. A posterior paraseptal cartilage is present; in the author's opinion it is joined to the lamina orbitonasalis and not to the lamina transversalis post., since the latter is absent.  相似文献

The trabeculae cranii are at first quite separate from each other, after few days their anterior two fifths are connected by a trabecular plate which is obliterated throughout development. The paired origin of the parachordal plate is not observed. The fused posterior orbital cartilages chondrify in the form of a wide short plate, traversed by the oculomotor and trochlear nerves. The basicranial fenestra and fenestra ovalis are formed by the degeneration of pre-existing cartilage. The cochlear portion is completely fused with the parachordal plate from the very beginning. The elements of the pterygoquadrate are fused together. The quadrate and Meckel's cartilage are in close contact from the very beginning. While the lower part of the interorbital septum is derived from the trabecula communis, its upper part is derived from the anterior orbital cartilages. The lateral parts of the fused posterior orbital cartilages give rise to most of the taeniae and pilae of the orbitotemporal region. There is only one commissure between the auditory capsule and parachordal plate. A cartilaginous connection between the distal portion of the columella auris and ceratohyal persists for some time. The parietotectal and paranasal cartilages are fused together from the very beginning. The processus paroticus originates from the columella auris. In the fully formed stage the notochord is completely embedded in the occipital condyle. The union between the condyle and odontoid process persists. The auditory capsules and occipital arches contribute to the formation of the tectum synoticum plus posterius. The prefacial commissure and facial foramen lie in front of the cochlear portion. The columella auris possesses a processus internus (connected with the quadrate), but the processes a dorsalis has completely disappeared. The orbitotemporal region is quite complete. A medial fenestra is formed in the planum supraseptale. A fenestra is observed in each of the interorbital and nasal septa. The lamina transversalis anterior is fused with the parietotectal cartilage. A complete zona annularis is present. The outer wall of the paranasal cartilage is perforated by a large fenestra lateralis. The parietotectal and paranasal cartilages and the posterior process of the lamina transversalis anterior contribute to the formation of the concha nasalis. There is a contact between the planum antorbitale and nasal septum. The pterygoid process has disappeared. The common characters of the lacertid chondrocranuium are deduced.  相似文献

Anatomy of the nasal cartilages of the unilateral complete cleft lip nose   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The purpose of this study was to disclose the relationship between the anomaly of the cartilaginous framework and the nasal deformity of cleft lip. The noses of six stillborn infants with unilateral complete cleft lip were carefully dissected. The size and weight of the lower lateral cartilages were measured to determine whether there was a significant difference between the normal and involved sides. The position of the nasal cartilages was observed, and the distance between them was measured to determine whether they were normal. The surgical dissection revealed that the lower lateral cartilages from both sides were asymmetrical in three dimensions, indicating the displacement of the lower lateral cartilage on the involved side. There was displacement of the cartilaginous septum and the upper lateral cartilage. The statistical evaluation did not demonstrate a significant difference between weight and size of the two sides. One of the major causative factors of nasal deformity is displacement of the nasal cartilages. There is no hypoplasia of nasal cartilage in newborn infants with cleft lip.  相似文献

Sprague-Dawley rats were given daily subcutaneous doses of sodium warfarin (100 mg/kg) and vitamin K1 (10 mg/kg) for up to 12 weeks, starting on the day after birth. This dosing regimen creates an extrahepatic vitamin K deficiency while preserving the vitamin K-dependent processes of the liver. Control rats received either vitamin K1 only or were untreated. All rats survived without any signs of hemorrhage. The warfarin-treated rats developed a marked maxillonasal hypoplasia associated with a 11-13% reduction in the length of the nasal bones compared with controls. The length of the posterior part of the skull was not significantly different from controls. In the warfarin-treated rats, the septal cartilage of the nasal septum showed large areas of calcification, not present in controls, and abnormal calcium bridges in the epiphyseal cartilages of the vertebrae and long bones. The ectopic calcification in the septal cartilage may have been the cause of the reduced longitudinal growth of the nasal septum and the associated maxillonasal hypoplasia. It is proposed that (1) the facial features of the human warfarin embryopathy are caused by reduced growth of the embryonic nasal septum, and (2) the septal growth retardation occurs because the warfarin-induced extrahepatic vitamin K deficiency prevents the normal formation of the vitamin K-dependent matrix gla protein in the embryo.  相似文献

Horizontal mattress sutures have previously been shown to remove unwanted bulbosity and convexity of nasal tip cartilages. The purpose of this study was to extend that concept by investigating the universal applicability of the horizontal mattress suture to change and control the curvature (e.g., convexity or concavity) of a wide variety of nasal cartilages and warped cartilage grafts. The horizontal mattress suture was applied to a variety of clinical situations, including nasal tip bulbosity caused by convex lateral crura, collapsed external nasal valves, warped grafts and struts, crooked L-shaped septal struts, and collapsed internal nasal valves. Twenty-nine cases were studied over a period of 10 to 23 months. The horizontal mattress suture proved to be a simple, effective means of achieving satisfactory control of the curvature of various cartilages of the nose (including external valves, internal valves, and septum) and warped cartilage grafts. Curvature control was obtained in all cases where the cartilage was supple. Moreover, the resultant strength was increased above normal. Partial recurrence of the curvature was seen in only two cases. Clinical results indicated that the horizontal mattress suture is universally applicable to a variety of situations in which the curvature of nasal cartilage and cartilage grafts needs to be removed or modified. The mattress suture drastically reduces the need for scoring (with its inherent problems of weakness) and the need for cartilage grafting.  相似文献

  • 1 Throughout Europe, the range of many deer species is expanding. We provide current distribution maps for red deer Cervus elaphus, sika Cervus nippon, fallow deer Dama dama and muntjac deer Muntiacus sp. in Ireland, and estimates of range expansion rates for red deer, sika and fallow deer.
  • 2 There was a considerable expansion in the ranges of red deer, sika and fallow deer between 1978 and 2008. The compound annual rate of expansion was 7% for red deer, 5% for sika and 3% for fallow deer. The total range increase was 565% for red deer, 353% for sika and 174% for fallow deer. The potential implications of these expansions are discussed.
  • 3 There are unknown numbers of red‐sika hybrid deer in some parts of Ireland. Range expansion is likely to lead to further hybridizations with implications for the genetic integrity of deer stocks.
  • 4 Sightings of free‐roaming muntjac deer were first recorded in 2007. The distribution of confirmed sightings of single and multiple animals in the eastern region of Ireland suggests multiple releases.
  • 5 Deer are already impacting on both the economic and biodiversity values of habitats in Ireland, where, at present, no sustainable deer management policy exists.

The present study was designed to investigate how rat hyaline cartilages at various sites in vivo express the gene and protein of type I collagen using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. The gene of pro alpha 1(I) collagen was expressed by chondrocytes in articular cartilage, and the protein of type I collagen was identified in the cartilage matrix. In contrast, growth plate cartilage expressed the gene of pro alpha 1(I) collagen, but no protein of type I collagen. Neither gene nor protein of type I collagen was expressed in cartilages of trachea and nasal septum. The present study suggested that expression of type I collagen in hyaline cartilages may be regulated tissue-specifically at gene and/or protein levels.  相似文献

Collagen-free extracts were prepared from bovine, porcine and canine hyaline, elastic and fibrous cartilages, articular capsule, tendon, aorta, cortical bone and regenerating articular surfaces. The extracts were investigated with antisera to bovine nasal septal cartilage, dog articular cartilage and non-collagenous protein fraction of bovine cortical bone. Immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis, and immunohistochemical methods were used. In the different supporting tissues of the three animal species a common antigen, probably of proteoglycan origin, was demonstrated. The finer differences in antigenicity between the different tissues are probably due to the variations in proteoglycan composition of the given supporting tissues. Owing to the wide-spread occurrence of the antigen, the authors suggest the term "species-common connective tissue antigen" instead of the "species-common cartilage antigen" used so far.  相似文献

The vertebrate cranial base is a complex structure composed of bone, cartilage and other connective tissues underlying the brain; it is intimately connected with development of the face and cranial vault. Despite its central importance in craniofacial development, morphogenesis and tissue origins of the cranial base have not been studied in detail in the mouse, an important model organism. We describe here the location and time of appearance of the cartilages of the chondrocranium. We also examine the tissue origins of the mouse cranial base using a neural crest cell lineage cell marker, Wnt1-Cre/R26R, and a mesoderm lineage cell marker, Mesp1-Cre/R26R. The chondrocranium develops between E11 and E16 in the mouse, beginning with development of the caudal (occipital) chondrocranium, followed by chondrogenesis rostrally to form the nasal capsule, and finally fusion of these two parts via the midline central stem and the lateral struts of the vault cartilages. X-Gal staining of transgenic mice from E8.0 to 10 days post-natal showed that neural crest cells contribute to all of the cartilages that form the ethmoid, presphenoid, and basisphenoid bones with the exception of the hypochiasmatic cartilages. The basioccipital bone and non-squamous parts of the temporal bones are mesoderm derived. Therefore the prechordal head is mostly composed of neural crest-derived tissues, as predicted by the New Head Hypothesis. However, the anterior location of the mesoderm-derived hypochiasmatic cartilages, which are closely linked with the extra-ocular muscles, suggests that some tissues associated with the visual apparatus may have evolved independently of the rest of the “New Head”.  相似文献

Nasal secretions, leukocytes and preputial or vaginal swabs from a group of 15 captive wild ruminants, comprising six pronghorn antelope (Antilocapra americana), seven fallow deer (Dama dama) and two mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), and from 50 free-ranging pronghorns in southern Alberta, were examined for viral agents. Captive animals were given injections of dexamethasone daily for 6 days in attempts to reactivate latent infections. Specimens were collected at 2-3 day intervals from days 0 to 18. Free-ranging pronghorns were sampled only once, at the time of capture. Fifteen viral isolates were obtained from the animals: six isolates of parainfluenza 3 (PI3) from nasal swabs from one fallow deer and one mule deer; five isolates of herpesvirus from leukocytes, vaginal, preputial and nasal swabs from three fallow deer; and four isolates of PI3 from nasal secretions of the 50 free-ranging pronghorns.  相似文献

1. Blood samples were obtained from fallow deer (Dama dama) and red deer (Cervus elaphus). Basic haematology, red cell enzymes, and metabolic intermediates and the glycolytic rate of the red cells incubated with different substrates were measured. 2. The major findings were (i) the activity of glucose phosphate isomerase was notably high in the red blood cells of the red deer; (ii) red deer cells also utilized adenosine more efficiently than those of fallow deer and (iii) red cells of both species utilized galactose more efficiently than other species of ruminants.  相似文献

Characterisation of human craniofacial syndromes and studies in transgenic mice have demonstrated the requirement for Fgf signalling during morphogenesis of membrane bone of the cranium. Here, we report that Fgf activity is also required for development of the oro-pharyngeal skeleton, which develops first as cartilage with some elements subsequently becoming ossified. We show that inhibition of FGF receptor activity in the zebrafish embryo following neural crest emigration from the neural tube results in complete absence of neurocranial and pharyngeal cartilages. Moreover, this Fgf signal is required during a 6-h period soon after initiation of neural crest migration. The spatial and temporal expression of Fgf3 and Fgf8 in pharyngeal endoderm and ventral forebrain and its correlation with patterns of Fgf signalling activity in migrating neural crest makes them candidate regulators of cartilage development. Inhibition of Fgf3 results in the complete absence of cartilage elements that normally form in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth pharyngeal arches, while those of the first, second, and seventh arches are largely unaffected. Inhibition of Fgf8 alone has variable, but mild, effects. However, inhibition of both Fgf3 and Fgf8 together causes a complete absence of pharyngeal cartilages and the near-complete loss of the neurocranial cartilage. These data implicate Fgf3 and Fgf8 as key regulators of cartilage formation in the vertebrate head.  相似文献

To achieve permanent results for the correction of a drooping nasal tip, it is important to understand the mechanism responsible for the caudal rotation of the tip when a person speaks or smiles. This mechanism can be considered to depend on a "functional unity" formed by three components: (1) the cartilaginous framework (alar cartilages and accessories acting as a single structure); (2) muscular motors (m. levator labii superioris alaeque nasi and depressor septi nasi); and (3) gliding areas (apertura piriformis, the valvular mechanism between the upper lateral cartilages and alar cartilages, the lax tissue of the nasal dorsum, and the membranous septum). We describe a new anatomical and functional concept responsible for the plunging of the nasal tip. When a person smiles, the functional unit is activated by a combination of two forces acting simultaneously in opposite directions that rotate the tip caudally and elevate the nasal base. The levator moves the alar base upward and the depressor pulls the tip caudally. To correct the drooping tip, the transcartilaginous incision is extended laterally, and the lateral portion of the alar arch is dissected free from the skin and the mucosa, thus exposing the accessory cartilages. The arch is then severed at the level of the accessories to allow the cephalad rotation of the domes. The muscle insertions are dissected free from the accessories and a section of the muscle and, if necessary, the accessory cartilages, is removed. From January of 1991 onward, 312 patients have had this ancillary procedure performed in addition to the basic rhinoplasty technique.  相似文献

Dynamics in rhinoplasty   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Nasal dynamics were studied on 87 patients undergoing rhinoplasty of one zone or two distant nasal zones. Statistical analysis of the results revealed that reduction of the nasion area, besides setting the soft tissue back, gave the appearance of increased intercanthal distance and lengthened the nose. Reduction of the nasal bridge resulted in a wider appearance on frontal view and a cephalically rotated tip on profile. Augmentation of the bridge affected the nose reversely. Tip cephalad rotation was achieved by resecting one of the three areas: the cephalad portion of the lower lateral cartilages (affecting the rims more), the caudal septum (affecting the central portion more), and the caudal portion of the medial crura of the lower lateral cartilages (affecting the central portion only). Resection of the alar base not only narrowed the nostrils but also moved the alar rim caudally. Furthermore, it reduced tip projection when a large alar base reduction was done. Reduction of the nasal spine increased the upper lip length on profile and reduced tip projection when a large reduction took place. Significant reduction in caudal nose projection resulted in widening of the alar base.  相似文献

Cartilage exerts many functions in different tissues and parts of the body. Specific requirements presumably also account for a specific biochemical composition. In this study, we investigated the presence and distribution pattern of matrix components, in particular collagen types in the major human cartilages (hyaline, fibrous, and elastic cartilage) by histochemical and immunohistochemical means. Macroscopically normal articular cartilages, menisci, disci (lumbar spine), epiglottal, and tracheal tissues were obtained from donors at autopsy. Aurical and nasal cartilages were part of routine biopsy samples from tumor resection specimens. Conventional histology and immunohistochemical stainings with collagen types I, II, III, IV, V, VI, and X and S-100 protein antibodies were performed on paraformaldehyde-fixed and paraffin-embedded specimens. The extracellular matrix is the functional component of all cartilages as indicated by the low cell densities. In particular major scaffold forming collagen types I (in fibrous cartilage) and II (in hyaline and elastic cartilages) as well as collagen type X (in the calcified layer of articular cartilages, the inner part of tracheal clips, and epiglottis cartilage) showed a specific distribution. In contrast, the "minor" collagen types III, V, and VI were found in all, collagen type IV in none of the cartilage subtypes. In this study, we present a biochemical profile of the major cartilage types of the human body which is important for understanding the physiology and the pathophysiology of cartilages.  相似文献

For correction of the twisted nose, the use of a dorsal onlay cartilage graft, obtained from the resected septum, produces the illusion of a straight nose. This persists in spite of any recurrences of deviations in the septum or upper lateral cartilages.  相似文献

One moose (Alces alces), two red deer (Cervus elaphus), two reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) and two fallow deer (Dama dama) were dosed intraruminally with an aqueous extract made from 30 g of bog asphodel (Narthecium ossifragum) (wet weight) per kg live weight. The moose and one of the two reindeer were mildly depressed and had reduced appetite 3 to 7 days and 1 to 4 days after dosing, respectively. The serum creatinine and urea concentrations increased markedly in the moose and red deer, and moderately in the reindeer. No increase in serum creatinine and urea was observed in the fallow deer. Histopathological examination of the kidneys of the animals, killed 8 to 10 days after dosing, revealed tubular epithelial cell degeneration, necrosis, and regeneration in the moose, red deer and reindeer. The renal lesions were severe in the moose, moderate in the red deer and mild in the reindeer. No histopathological lesions were seen in the kidneys of the fallow deer.  相似文献

A survey of abomasal parasites in cervids from Central Spain was conducted at 3 sites, Quintos de Mora (Toledo), Malué?ez de Arriba (Cáceres), and La Herguijuela (Cáceres). Commonly occurring helminths belonged to 3 polymorphic species of the Ostertagiinae: Spiculopteragia asymmetricalS. quadrispiculata, Ostertagia leptospicularis/O. kolchida, and O. drozdzi/O. ryjikovi. Trichostrongylus axei was found in very few cases. Ostertagia drozdzi/O. ryjikovi and the minor male morphotype, S. quadrispiculata, are reported for the first time in red deer from Spain. The 3 ostertagiine species are also reported for the first time in fallow deer from Spain. These 3 species of Ostertagiinae are primarily parasites of cervids, and nematode species characteristic of domestic ruminants were not present. Prevalence of infection by gastrointestinal parasites in cervids was high, ranging from 97.5 to 100%, across the 3 areas sampled. Mean intensity of infection and abundance showed a positive relationship to the population density of red deer. Helminth burdens were higher in fallow deer than in the sympatric red deer and may reflect the gregarious social structure and different foraging patterns of fallow deer.  相似文献
