Concurrent, rice-fish systems in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, are characterized by a rice field surrounded by a trench. Rice is direct seeded and fish are reared in polyculture. The most common species for polyculture are silver barb Barbodes gonionotus (Bleeker), common carp Cyprinus carpio L. and Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.). In a 1996–97 rice-fish experiment, the effects of (1) absence or presence of such a polyculture, and (2) different rice-seeding rates (100 and 300 kg pre-germinated rice per ha) on the field floodwater ecology were studied. Fish obtained from local nurseries were stocked in six out of 12 rice-fish plots at the Co Do experimental rice-fish station (10°10 N and 105°20 E). Silver barb, common carp and Nile tilapia were stocked in polyculture at densities of 3150, 310 and 550 fish ha–1, respectively. About 50% of the observed variation in the floodwater could be attributed to the fish stocked and to rice-seeding rate. The above-ground dry weight of the rice plants increased in the presence of fish and by an increase in rice-seeding rate. Greater shading by denser plants resulted in changes in variables related to aquatic primary production, including the amount of chlorophyll-a, dissolved oxygen concentration and pH. The presence of fish quadrupled the ammonium concentration, but decreased that of ortho-phosphate. Though fish increased the ammonium concentration, this did not result in a higher aquatic photosynthesis. Light, not ammonium, was the most limiting factor. However, increased ammonium concentrations in the presence of fish did have a positive effect on the density of Euglenophyta and the amount of chlorophyll-a, though only at the lower rice-seeding rate. At the higher rice-seeding rate, light seemed to be lacking. At the lower rice-seeding rate, fish also had a significant effect on the Cladocera–Rotifera ratio. Rotifera numbers increased as fish stimulated phytoplankton. We also demonstrated that fish most probably do not reduce ammonia volatilization losses. The lower rice-seeding rate seemed better for fish production than the higher rate: at the lower rate, dissolved oxygen concentrations were higher throughout the rice cycle. In addition, the amount of chlorophyll-a and the density of Euglenophyta were higher at the lower rice-seeding rate. Finally, we could show that even at high rice-seeding rates, fish had an impact on the aquatic environment. Fish access to the field is not hindered by dense rice stands.  相似文献

In a 1996–1997 dry season experiment, the effects of (1) absence or presence of a fish polyculture, and (2) two different rice-seeding rates (100 and 300 kg pre-germinated rice per ha) on the trench floodwater ecology were studied. Fish were stocked in six out of twelve rice-fish plots at the Co Do experimental rice-fish station (10° 10 N and 105° 20 E). Silver barb, common carp and Nile tilapia were stocked in polyculture at densities of 3150, 310 and 550 fish/ha, respectively. Several hydrological and biological parameters of the trench floodwater were measured. About 65% of the observed variation in the trench floodwater could be attributed to the fishes stocked and changes in rice-seeding rate. The presence of a fish polyculture increased the water turbidity of the trench floodwater, mainly through suspension of mineral and organic material through fish perturbation. At the lower rice-seeding rate, this resulted in a lower primary production. Photosynthetic activity, dissolved oxygen am and pm showed significant decreases, but only at the lower rice-seeding rate in the presence of fish. Fish polyculture presence resulted in lower ortho-phosphate concentrations, higher phytoplankton communities and higher Protozoa numbers, most probably due to a higher availability of nutrients through fish defecation and perturbation. The rice-seeding rate had a significant impact on pH am, pH pm and temperature pm readings. The survival rate for Nile tilapia and the gross production for Nile tilapia and common carp was higher at the lower rice seeding rate, most probably due to a better aquatic environment of the field. In terms of fish production, the trench floodwater environment was better than the field floodwater. The trench is a very important part of the rice-fish system. It serves as a refuge and supplies reasonable amounts of phytoplankton and zooplankton to the fish.  相似文献

Residues of aliphatic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were monitored in some fish species collected from Temsah Lake, near Ismailia, Egypt. Fish were selected to represent different feeding habits and ecological niches in the lake's ecosystem. Fish samples were extracted using organic solvents, and residues of aliphatic and PAHs were separated using column chromatography and detected using gas liquid chromatography. Fish species were Clupea sirm, Mugil sehli, Mugil capito, Morone labrax, and Sciasna sp. Clupea sirm, a surface feeder fish had the highest concentration of aliphatic hydrocarbons, 320 ± 54 ng g?1, while Morone labrax, a predatory fish that live in the water column, had the highest concentration of PAHs, 315.87 ± 46 ng g?1. Even-number aliphatic hydrocarbons were more frequently detected in all fish species in comparison to odd-number aliphatic hydrocarbons, suggesting a petrogenic origin of these compounds. Meanwhile, the pattern of PAHs detected in the present study suggested that they originate from atmospheric deposition rather than land-based runoff. Morone labrax fish and Clupea sirm fish were the most suitable candidate bioindicators of exposure to aliphatic hydrocarbons and PAHs through fish consumption of the five fish species examined in this study.  相似文献

In the shallow, nutrient-rich dammed-up lake Hjarbæk Fjord the balance between phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish was completely disturbed during the summer period. Extensive growth of small blue-green algae (Oscillatoria cfr. trichoides, Pseudanabaena galeata) and chlorococcal green algae (Scenedesmus spp., Monoraphidium contortum, Actinastrum hantzschii) induced a pH rise to 10.5 in July. Fish were driven into the rivers, and many that did not escape died. After the fish had disappeared daphniae multiplied explosively and grazed away the major part of the phytoplankton. Ammonia concentrations rose and oxygen concentrations dropped to noxious levels for highly sensitive fish in August–September. Larger phytoplankton species (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, Pediastrum boryanum, Pandorina morum, a. o.) were not grazed by the daphniae and gave rise to a maximum of copepods in September. Fish returned to the lake in October, when pH, ammonia, and oxygen levels had normalized.  相似文献

The basic biology and ecology of the South African east coast round herring Etrumeus wongratanai was investigated from samples of fish collected between 2013 and 2016. This species is short-lived and reaches a maximum of 3 years of age, with rapid growth in its first year of life. It reproduces from June to December (austral summer) and condition factor was lowest in May through to August and increased from September, probably reflecting the physiological strain before and during spawning. Fish larvae were the most important food items consumed during summer, whereas eucalanid copepods were the most important prey at other times of the year. Stable-isotope data suggest that there are gradual changes in the trophic level with increasing fish size, δ15N and δ13C values also differed between seasons. The results obtained here are compared with those of other Etrumeus species, regionally and globally.  相似文献

长江口水域夏季鱼卵和仔稚鱼年间变化   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
基于2005年、2008年、2009年和2011年8月(夏季)在长江口水域(30°30'—31°45'N,121°15'—123°10'E)4个航次的浮游生物拖网资料,分析了长江口水域鱼卵和仔稚鱼的种类组成、数量分布特征及其年间变化。结果表明:4个航次采集的鱼卵和仔稚鱼鉴定到种的种类有17种,隶属于8目13科,以鲈形目种类最多,11种,其次是鲱形目,5种,其他各目种类均小于5种;种类数存在明显年间差异,2005年种类数最多(鱼卵3种,仔稚鱼8种),其次是2009年和2011年,2008年种类数最少(鱼卵1种,仔稚鱼5种)。优势种年间更替明显,长蛇鲻(Saurida elongata)、虾虎鱼(Gobiidae spp.)和中华小公鱼(Stolephorus chinensis)在2005年是优势种,2008年优势种为鳀鱼(Engraulis japonicus),2009年优势种为鳀鱼、寡鳞飘鱼(Pseudolaubuca engraulis)、虾虎鱼等,2011年虾虎鱼和小公鱼(包括小公鱼属未定种Stolephorus spp.和中华小公鱼Stolephorus chinensis)成为优势种。2005年鱼卵和仔稚鱼数量分布的密集区在嵊泗列岛附近水域,2008年鱼卵和仔稚鱼出现较少,未出现明显的数量密集区;2009年鱼卵数量较少,仔稚鱼数量较多,密集区主要分布在在长江口以外123°E附近水域;2011年鱼卵主要分布在在长江北支口门外附近水域,仔稚鱼在调查区内分布相对均匀。  相似文献

Annual flooding of the permanent Sudd swamps innundates large areas of Oryza longistaminata grasslands. Fish migration into a southeast section of the seasonal floodplain was led by Clarias gariepinus, Polypterus senegalus and several small species which were intent on spawning. Channa obscura and juveniles of Oreochromis niloticus were prominent among later entrants. From a total of 23 species caught in seasonal habitats, 7 contributed over 97% of total estimated numerical and biomass densities. The latter ranged from 435–580 kg ha–1. In the 1982–83 flood-season entry to the floodplain was essentially restricted to species tolerant of oxygen-deficient waters and thereby able to penetrate the papyrus and Typha swamps of the permanent wetland. Migrants became stranded in temporary pools and subject to heavy cropping by birds.  相似文献

We investigated the relationships between water chemistry and the occurrence, distribution, physiology, and morphology of fish faunas. We examined 34 species (ca. 10% of the Argentinean freshwater fish fauna) from 120 localities (5 areas) situated between 26°15 S (Trancas, Tucumán) and 38°30 S (Sierra de la Ventana, Buenos Aires). Fourteen chemical features are described by: conductivity, total dissolved solids, temperature, pH, CO 3 2– , CO3H, Cl, SO 4 2– Ca2+, K+, Mg2+, Na+, Mg/Ca, Mg+Ca/Na+K. Three Basic Data Matrices considering the mean, maximum and minimum values of each variable for each fish species were used in a Cluster and Principal Component Analysis. Groups of species clustered in similar ways to particular water chemistries. Similarity was the common occurrence of species in a defined area and preference for a common range of the factors considered. Groups of species so defined showed patterns of distribution related to climate, environment, trophic state and hydrographic complexity. Each cluster included some eurytopic species which appeared together at extreme chemical and geographic characteristics. Twenty four species had ranges of tolerance for the 14 variables and evidence of a grouping according to these ranges. Eighteen species which occurred at maximum or minimum absolute values for more than one factor were ordered along an eurytopy — stenotopy axis. We support the statement that species with a larger tolerance range for most factors have a higher probability of being widely distributed. Astyanax fasciatus and A. bimaculatus tolerated the highest number of maximum and minimum values, followed by Jenynsia l. lineata, A. eigenmanniorum and Trichomycterus corduvensis. A survey was carried out on the species of fungi associated with mycotic infections of fish in a Nigerian freshwater fish pond. A total of 24 fungal species belonging to 6 genera of aquatic phycomycete were isolated from the infected fishes. Achlya racemosa, Aphanomyces laevis, Dictyuchus sterile, Saprolegnia ferax, S. litoralis and S. parasitica had 100% frequency of occurrence amongst the infected fishes. There were similarities in the species of fungi isolated from the infected fishes in the fish pond and those isolated from the hatchery. Of the infected fishes, Clarias lazera had the highest number of fungal isolates. It was followed by Tilapia zilli, then by Chanos chanos, Ethmalosa fimbriata and finally by Cyprinus carpio. The implications of the results obtained on the development of fish farming in Nigeria are discussed.  相似文献

The LWRs (length–weight relationships) of four freshwater fish species from medium categorized Doyang reservoir at Wokha District, Nagaland were studied, namely as Garra naganensis Hora, 1921; Devario naganensis Chaudhuri, 1912; Chagunius nicholsi Myers, 1924 and Schistura manipurensis Chaudhuri, 1912. Fish sample were collected in every 15 days interval by cast-nets (1.0 × 1.0 cm mesh size covering the 4.5 m2 areas), gill-nets (0.4–5.0 cm mesh size), scoop-nets (mesh size with 0.3 × 0.3 cm to 0.6 × 0.6 cm) and also from the local fishermen in between July 2017 to January 2019. The regression value of slope (b) is fallen into 2.860–3.115 range with significant correlation values (r2 ≥ .960).  相似文献

Results obtained from a step by step approach to the biomanipulation of a natural lacustrine environment (Lago di Candia, Northern Italy) are presented. Since the diversion of the municipal sewage of the small town of Candia, runoff and precipitation have been the sole contributors of nutrient to the lake. Fish population is mainly characterized by rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus) overstocking and by a low density of large-mouth-bass (Micropterus salmoides) and pike (Esox lucius). During 1986 about 12t of rudd (1–2 year old) were removed from the lake. Considering 1986 as ‘control year’, average Secchi disc transparency improved from 2.3 m in 1986 to 3.3 m in 1988; phytoplankton biovolume decreased from 114 to 58 mm3 l−1 but zooplankton biovolume increased from 8 to 11.5 mm3 l−1. The results achieved show that a grodual biomanipulation treatment can have a satisfactory outcome, and has the advantage of not producing catastrophic situations either in the biotic or in the abiotic compartments of the lake.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted during wet season to evaluate the performance of different fish species for biocontrol of weeds in rainfed waterlogged rice fields with fingerlings of three exotic carps – grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idella (Val.) (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes), silver barb, Puntius gonionotus (Bleeker) (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes) and common carp, Cyprinus carpio (L.) (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes) – and three Indian major carps – rohu, Labeo rohita (Ham.) (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes), catla, Catla catla (Ham.) (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes), mrigal, Cirrhinus mrigala (Ham.) (Cyprinidae, Cypriniformes). A total of 13 major weeds under the categories of grassy, sedges, broadleaf and aquatic weeds were observed in the rice fields. Grass carp reduced maximum weed biomass (weed control efficiency [WCE] 63% at 60 days after transplanting [DAT] and 62% at 100 DAT) followed by silver barb and common carp. Among the Indian carps, only rohu was effective in control of weeds (WCE, 23% at 60 DAT). The grain yield of rice (variety Varshadhan) slightly increased (4.2–4.5 t/ha), but straw yield was significantly higher (10.2–10.7 t/ha) under rice-fish farming. Fish yield was significantly higher in exotic carps (270–288 kg/ha/90days) due to higher specific growth rates (1.8–2% body weight/day). The study indicated that exotic carps (grass carp, silver barb and common carp in order) were more effective than Indian carps for control of weed in rainfed lowland rice fields and among the Indian carps, rohu showed potential for weed control.  相似文献

The River Todasana is a small rain tropical forest stream emptying to the Caribbean Sea (Venezuela). Fish were sampled by electrofishing at three contiguous sites (pool, riffle, raceway). Nine species were recorded. Their mean biomass and production were: 43.72 kg ha−1 and 36.94 kg ha−1 yr−1, maximum: 55.47 kg ha−1 and 42.33 kg ha−1 yr−1, respectively.  相似文献

Adult bluegil grew faster in Lake Mendota than in Lake Wingra. Once and two year old fish from both lakes had similar growth patterns and grew at a rate similar to that of fish from other lakes. Small fish from the two lakes (averaging 10 g) had comparable rations in July but larger fish (averaging 50 g) had daily ration of 3% in Lake Mendota compared to 1% for Lake Wingra fish. Mean number of benthic organisms varied from 364 to 80 per m2 in Lake Wingra as opposed to 1560 to 450 organisms per m2 in Lake Mendota. Fish in Lake Wingra fed selectively on Daphnia and Cyclops, which, although small in size, were relatively larger than the other plankton species. Bluegill from Lake Mendota, on the other hand, fed mainly on large macroinvertebrates such as Hyalella and insects.  相似文献

Aims: To investigate the species distribution in Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish, healthy controls and water environment in China; to evaluate the frequency of the aerolysin (aer), cytotonic enterotoxin (alt), cytotoxic enterotoxin (act), temperature‐sensitive protease (eprCAI) and serine protease (ahp) genes in Aeromonas isolates; and to determine the potential pathogenicity of these isolates. Methods and Results: Two hundred and two Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish (n = 42), healthy fish (n = 120) and water environment (n = 40) in China were identified to species levels based on sequencing of the housekeeping gene gyrB, while the distribution of five virulence factors, including aer, alt, act, eprCAI and ahp, was investigated by PCR. Aeromonas veronii (25/42; 60%) and Aeromonas hydrophila (14/42; 33%) were the species most commonly isolated from diseased fish, while Aer. veronii was the most common species in healthy fish (90/120; 75%) and water samples (25/40; 62·5%). All the five virulence genes were present in 9% (19/202), among which 10 strains were from diseased fish and nine were identified as Aer. hydrophila. For the strains carrying five virulence genes, the average 50% lethal doses (LD50s) of strains from diseased fish were lower when compared with the strains from healthy fish and water environment. Conclusions: Aeromonas veronii is the most common species, but no significant difference exists in the isolates obtained from diseased fish and from healthy fish. However, Aer. hydrophila isolates were significantly more frequent from diseased fish than from healthy fish. aer+alt+act+eprCAI+ahp+ was more frequent virulence genotype in Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish than from healthy fish and water environment, and the aer+alt+act+eprCAI+ahp+ isolates were more virulent to zebrafish comparing to the other genetic profiles. Significant and Impact of the Study: Aeromonas species in aquatic environments are various and have considerable virulence potential, and therefore, there is a need for more careful and intensive epidemiology studies.  相似文献

Baseline, post‐angling and maximum attainable blood lactate concentrations were measured for the fishery species redthroat emperor Lethrinus miniatus to gain insight into the condition of fish released following c. 30 s angling and <45 s air exposure. Mean ± s.d . baseline blood lactate was 1·5 ± 0·6 mmol l?1, which increased and plateaued around 6 mmol l?1 at 15–30 min post‐angling. These values were significantly lower than those obtained from fish maximally exhausted with a prolonged chase and air exposure protocol following capture (10·9 ± 1·8 mmol l?1), suggesting that L. miniatus is not maximally exhausted during standard angling practices.  相似文献

1. This study describes the environmental conditions and cladoceran community structure of 29 Faroese lakes with special focus on elucidating the impact of fish planktivory. In addition, long‐term changes in biological structure of the Faroese Lake Heygsvatn are investigated. 2. Present‐day species richness and community structure of cladocerans were identified from pelagial snapshot samples and from samples of surface sediment (0–1 cm). Multivariate statistical methods were applied to explore cladoceran species distribution relative to measured environmental variables. For Lake Heygsvatn, lake development was inferred by cladoceran‐based paleolimnological investigations of a 14C‐dated sediment core covering the last ca 5700 years. 3. The 29 study lakes were overall shallow, small‐sized, oligotrophic and dominated by brown trout (Salmo trutta). Cladoceran species richness was overall higher in the surface sediment samples than in the snapshot samples. 4. Fish abundance was found to be of only minor importance in shaping cladoceran community and body size structure, presumably because of predominance of the less efficient zooplanktivore brown trout. 5. Canonical correspondence analysis showed maximum lake depth (Zmax) to be the only significant variable in explaining the sedimentary cladoceran species (18 cladoceran taxa, two pelagic, 16 benthic) distribution. Multivariate regression trees revealed benthic taxa to dominate in lakes with Zmax < 4.8 m and pelagic taxa to dominate when Zmax was > 4.8 m. 6. Predictive models to infer Zmax were developed using variance weighted‐averaging procedures. These were subsequently applied to subfossil cladoceran assemblages identified from a 14C‐dated sediment core from Lake Heygsvatn and showed inferred Zmax to correspond well to the present‐day lake depth. A recent increase in inferred Zmax may, however, be an artefact induced by, for instance, eutrophication.  相似文献

Bighead carp, Aristichthys nobilis Rich., dry weight food assimilation rates ranged from 37 to 49% (average 43%). The filtration rate ranged from 185 to 256 ml h–1 g–1 and was higher in larger fish. Bighead carp filtered Chlorella vulgaris (6 ± 0.4 µ diam) inefficiently (0.1 %), but the efficiency increased to 13 % for the larger Scenedesmus sp. (12 ± 1.7 µ diam). Fish kept in cages were forced to filter-feed, whereas fish kept free in the same pond were opportunistic plankton and bottom feeders. Free fish grew faster.  相似文献

Synopsis The distribution and relative abundance, life history parameters, food habits, and metabolic rate were determined forGadus ogac in Sagvagjuac Inlet, northwest coast of Hudson Bay (63° N). Fish were demersal, non-schooling, and distributed evenly down to 35 m depth. Growth was slow (maximum age 12 y) and mortality relatively low (0.5 y–1).G. ogac first spawned at 2–3 y and spawned annually thereafter, in late March – early April. They tended to remain in the inlet and were not taken on the open coast. They are top carnivores, taking primarily capelin when available, benthic crustacea (crabs, amphipods) when not. The metabolic rate ofG. ogac is intermediate between the elevated rate of Arctic cod,Boreogadus saida, and eurythermal temperate species. Available data indicate they are not important in marine mammal and bird food webs. Their biology is contrasted with that of Arctic cod, which are short-lived, cryopelagic, feed on pelagic crustacea, and are an extremely important component of Arctic marine food webs.Direct reprint requests  相似文献
