A new species of Isoglossa (Acanthaceae) from NE tropical Africa

The first species of Isoglossa known from Somalia, I. congesta is described om material from central Somalia and SE Ethiopia. It is related to I. parvifolia Rendle, occurring in E Ethiopia, but differs in the contracted inflorescences and long calyx lobes with long glandular hairs.     

Four new species of Chlorophytum (Anthericaceae) from tropical Africa

Four new species of Chlorophyrum from tropical Africa are described: C. graniticola from Zimbabwe, C. minor and C. perfoliatum from Zambia, and C. velutirzum from Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zaire.     

Two new species of Justicia sect. Ansellia (Acanthaceae) from E and NE tropical Africa

The new species Justicia ornatopila from Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, and J. lorata from Kenya are described and illustrated. Information on pollen morphology is also provided     

Two new species of Chascanum (Verbenaceae) from NE Africa

Two new species, Chascanum sulcatum and C. obovatum are described and illustrated, one occurring in Ethiopia and Somalia, the other in Ethiopia and N Kenya.     

A new species of Momordica (Cucurbitaceae) from tropical Africa

Momordica littorea , sp. nov., a dioecious climber with succulent 3-foliolate leaves and conspicuously bracteate flowers from coastal regions of southern Somalia and Kenya, is described and illustrated.     

Three new species of Melhania (Sterculiaceae) from north-eastern tropical Africa

Melhania annua , sp. nov., from coastal or subcoastal dunes in Somalia and Kenya, M. hiranensis , sp. nov., from Acacia-Commiphora bushland on sand in south-central Somalia, and M. quercifolia , sp. nov., from coastal dunes in Somalia, are described and illustrated.     

A new species of Kalanchoe (Crassulaceae) from northeast tropical Africa

The new species Kalanchoe subrosulata from deciduous bushlands in southwestern Somalia and northeastern Kenya is described and illustrated.     

Abronia macrocarpa (Nyctaginaceae): a new species from Texas

Abronia macrocarpa, a large-fruited species, is described as new. It is known only from a small sand dune area in Leon County, Texas.     

Three new species of Elassoneuria (Ephemeroptera: Oligoneuriidae) from tropical Africa

Three new species of Elassoneuria are described, E.disneyi from the Cameroons, and E.grandis and E.kidahi from Tanzania. The taxonomy of the nymphs is discussed, and E.congolana Navas is redescribed.     

Four new species of Sida (Malvaceae) from the Horn of Africa

Sida floccosa , sp. nov., from eastern Ethiopia and north-western Somalia, S. ogadensis , sp. nov., from eastern Ethiopia and central Somalia, 5. calliantha , sp. nov., from coastal dunes in southern Somalia, and S. longipedicellata sp. nov., from coastal dunes and sandy plains in central and south-central Somalia, are described and illustrated.     

Three new species of Justicia sect. Justicia (Acanthaceae) from tropical Africa

Three new species of Justicia sect. Justicia (Acanthaceae) are described: Justicia regis from Kenya, Justicia acutifolia from Tanzania, and Justicia telloensis from Cameroun.     

New species of Kyllinga (Cyperaceae) from tropical Africa

Four new species of Kyllinga from tropical Africa are described; K. robinsoniana from Zambia; K. pseudobulbosa from Tanzania; K. tisserantoides from Nigeria and K. uniflora from Tanzania. From the available records it seems that K. tisserantioides is West African in distribution while K. pseudobulbosa and K. robinsoniana have wider area of distribution within Africa. K. uniflora seems to be limited to the East African Miombo vegetation.     

New or noteworthy species of Leguminosae in NE tropical Africa

The following new species are described: Chamaecrista dunensis (Somalia), Acacia densispina (Somalia), A. flagellaris (Somalia), Tephrosia karkarensis (Somalia), T. scopulata (Somalia), Indigofera ancistrocarpa (Kenya), I. curvirostrata (Ethiopia), I. hiranensis (Somalia), I. karinensis (Somalia), I. kucharii (Somalia), I. nugalensis (Somalia), I. pellucida (Kenya, Somalia), I. sabulosa (Ethiopia, Somalia), I. sessilis (Somalia), I. ienuirostris (Somalia), Rhynchosia megalocalyx (Somalia), Crotalaria allophylla (Somalia), C. intricata (Somalia), C. warfae (Somalia), and Coronilla somalensis (Somalia). 2n = 22 is reported in Tephrosia karkarensis. Cassia somalensis, Acacia puccioniana, Sophora somalensis , and Crotalaria sennii are reduced to synonyms of respectively Senna hookeriana, Dichrostachys kirkii, Millettia usaramensis and Crotalaria boranica subsp. trichocarpa . Thirty-seven taxa are reported from Somalia for the first time, including Ptycholobium biflorum , known previously only from Southern Africa. Crotalaria pieropoda , known previously only from Socotra, is reported from Somalia and Oman. Neptunia oleracea and Vatovaea pseudolablab are new generic records for respectively Ethiopia and Oman. The fruits of Indigofera boranica are described. Vigna somaliensis and an allied species are discussed. Rhynchosia gansole is lectotypified and its flowers and fruits are described.     

Two new species in Justicia sect. Harnieria (Acanthaceae) from tropical Africa

Two new species of Justicia sect. Harnieria (Acanthaceae) are described: J. afromontana from Sudan and Uganda, and J. huambensis from Angola.     

The acaulescent and succulent species of Dorstenia sect. Kosaria (Moraceae) from NE tropical Africa and Arabia

The acaulescent and succulent species of Dorstenia sect. Kosaria in NE tropical Africa include the well defined D. ellenbeckiana and the two polymorphic taxa, the D. barnimiana complex and the D. foetida complex. The D. barnimiana complex is treated as two species, D. barnimiana Schweinf. and D. tropaeolifolia (Schweinf.) Bureau. One specific name and four varietal names are reduced to synonymy. The D. foetida complex is treated as one species, D. foetida (Forssk.) Schweinf., with two subspecies, ssp. foetida and ssp. lancifolia (Rendle) Friis comb, nov., of which the former is further divided into var. foetida and var. obovata (A. Rich.) Schweinf. & Engl. Three species arc reduced to synonymy of D. foetida. The distribution of all the species is mapped.     

Ichthyostoma - a new genus in the Amthaceae from NE tropical Africa

Ichthyostoma thulinii , a new genus and species from Central Somalia and SE Ethiopia is described. Ichthyostoma is best placed in Acanthoideae - Odontoneminae, but is not closely related to any extant genus in that group.     

New and noteworthy species of Indigofera (Leguminosae) from NE Africa

Six new species of Indigofera are described: I. eremophila Thulin from E Ethiopia, I. mooneyi Thulin from the highlands of SW Ethiopia, I. boranica Thulin from SE Ethiopia and NE Kenya, I. gyrata Thulin and I. ammophila Thulin from NE Kenya, and I. cana Thulin from north–central Ethiopia. I. cavallii Chiov., previously known only from the type from S Somalia, is reported also from NE Kenya.     

New species of Cucumis (Cucurbitaceae) from northeast tropical Africa

The new species Cucumis hastatus (widespread in southern Somalia, in deciduous bushlands), C. pubituberculatus (central Somalia, on open coastal dunes), C. Jeffrey-anus (southwestern Somalia and eastern Ethiopia, on alluvial soils), and C. baladensis (south-central Somalia, on fixed dunes), are described and illustrated. C. figarei is shown to be illegitimate, the correct name for the species apparently being C. pustulatus.
