The exchange of radioactive and stable iodine was studied for 21 days after the I131 injection in the thyroid gland and the blood of rats against the background of chronic uranium intoxication. The latter was accompanied by a decrease in the number of iodine-transport loci of the gland, as well as of the value of the intrathyroid iodine pool and of the stable iodine concentration in the thyroid tissue. The compensatory reaction of the thyroid gland was expressed in the increase of its mass and the rate of the thyroid metabolism as well.  相似文献

Changes in pituitary-thyroid axis sensitivity to bioactive component of pineal gland, melatonin, have been detected. In winter (short days) melatonin (100 micrograms/100 g of rat body weight) decreased T3 T4, TSH content and 131I uptake by thyroid tissue. However, it was noted that in summer (long photoperiod) the same injection caused suppression of T3 plasma level and 131I uptake ability of the thyroid gland, with T4 and TSH blood levels remaining significantly increased.  相似文献

The effect of pineal methoxyindoles (MI) on hypothalamus-hypophysis-thyroid gland system was studied in intact and partially thyroidectomized male Wistar rats in conditions of a short light day (winter). Melatonin administration for 10 days suppressed 131I uptake by the thyroid gland and decreased the levels of T3, T4 and thyrotropic hormone (TTH) in the blood serum of intact animals, with TTH reaction to thyroid hormone (TH) retained. 5-methoxytryptamine administration was less effective. Partial thyroidectomy distorted the direction of MI effect: melatonin and to a lesser extent 5-methoxytryptamine caused a marked normalization of a decreased TH content and an increased TTH level in the blood serum of partially thyroidectomized rats. TTH-TH reaction also corresponded to the control. A predominantly modulating character or pineal MI effect on thyroid system is suggested.  相似文献

1. Goitrogenic action of methallibure (ICI-33828) has been studied in mice gerbil and hedgehog using thyroid weight and histological structure as an index. Liquefaction and vacuolation of thyroid follicles were most prevelant after methallibure administration. 2. The I131 content of the thyroid gland was significantly higher in the methallibure treated groups than in the controls. This denotes a decrease in the rate of discharge of thyroid hormone. 3. Protein bound radioiodine (Pb I131) was low after methallibure administration. 4. Methallibure administration brings about hypertrophy of pituitary thyrotrophs which is also reflected in the increased basophilic cell percentage in gerbil (control: 15.5 percent; methallibure: 22.8 percent). 5. It is concluded that methallibure acts on thyroid function both by a direct effect on the gland as well as by influencing pituitary thyrotrophic activity in enhancing I131 uptake.  相似文献

In Wistar rats a study was made of a functional condition of the thyroid gland 1, 6 and 24 hours after partial pancreatectomy. The following signs-served as criteria of a functional condition of the gland: the amount of neutrone-activated iodine in iron, iodine-absorptive capacity of the gland by I131, the amount of protein-bound stable and radioactive iodine in the blood, a morphological condition of the gland structures. It was demonstrated that, despite the initial intensification of the process of synthesis and secretion in the thyroid gland, its secretory activity fell by the end of the experiment. This reduction is regarded as an adaptive response to partial insulin deficiency.  相似文献

In studying characteristics of specific interaction of estradiol-, testosterone- and thyroid-binding blood globulins with the corresponding ligands in children from Gomel Province with endemic swelling of the thyroid gland (degrees I and II) affected by iodine-131 revealed were a reduced cooperativity in estradiol and T-3 binding and a halved affinity to androgens and thyroids as compared to healthy controls. In addition, there was a drastic decline in the binding capacity of estradiol- and testosterone-binding globulins in the blood plasma. The endemic thyroid gland swelling is supposed to be due to sexual malfunction in teenagers.  相似文献

Maturation of the rat fetal thyroid was studied with the aid of I131 and of fluorescence and electron microscopy. The I131 concentration of the fetal gland increased exponentially from day 17 to day 20 of gestation and was related to the weight of the fetus (and presumably the weight of the thyroid) and also to the quantity of I131 accumulated by the fetus. In the 17-day gland, thyroglobulin or immunologically similar material was sparsely present in the incipient lumens of some cell clusters. With maturation, this material increased and was also observed within follicular cells on days 18 to 19 of gestation. On day 20, the specifically reacting material was present in the follicular lumens and was absent from the cytoplasm of follicular epithelium. Ultrastructurally, the earliest thyroid cells examined were replete with all the organelles found in the more mature epithelium. No direct correlation could be made between the cytoplasmic structures and the presence of thyroglobulin, although the granular endoplasmic reticulum was most likely the organelle responsible for synthesis of thyroglobulin. Thyroglobulin or a precursor was found in fetal thyroid cells before measurable quantities of I131 were concentrated and before cytoplasmic droplets appeared.  相似文献

The studies were carried out on rodents with different ecology, suffering from alimentary obesity. Their weight was 1.3-1.5 that of control animals. Prolonged (3 months) maintaining of the animals in conditions of obesity led to sharp decrease in inclusion of 131I into thyroid parenchyma, synthesis and excretion of SB 131I into blood. Microscopy study of thyroid gland revealed an inhibition of hormone synthesis, as indicated by flattened epithelium, dense colloid in follicles, and other hypofunctional features. Obesity decreases the quantity of food consumed by the animals and their reproductive abilities. Comparison of data obtained on rodents with different ecology revealed that maximal inhibition of thyroid function at obesity was observed in yellow gopher as compared to rat and gerbil.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: Ultrasonography (US) and scintigraphy (SPECT) are used to evaluate the volume of thyroid glands. An accurate estimation of the thyroid volume, among other factors, is necessary to calculate the suitable radioactive iodine dose, which determines the success of the therapy. The aim of the study was to estimate the volume of the goiter by means of US and (131)I-SPECT. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A group of 80 patients with a thyroid disorder in their past medical history was examined. Patients were divided into two groups. The group A contained 50 patients (39 females, 11 males) with a goiter, where the volume of the thyroid was evaluated with the use of US and (131)I-SPECT. The group B contained 30 patients (21 females, 9 males) with a normal volume of the thyroid gland shown by US and (131)I-SPECT. US of the thyroid gland was made by means of an ALOKA SSD 500 device, with the linear head 7.5 MHz frequency. (131)I-SPECT was made by means of a one head gammacamera Diacam with a high energy collimator. RESULTS: In the group A, the average volume of the goiter was 44.55 ml in US and 49.67 ml in SPECT (p<0.001). In control group B the average volumes of the thyroid gland were respectively 13.83 ml vs. 16.19 ml (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The results of the thyroid volume measurement was dependent on the method used in both the investigated and control groups.  相似文献

Using 131I as tracer, iodine uptake by various thyroid and non-thyroid tissues has been reported in Channa punctatus in which vitamin C deficiency was experimentally induced by feeding vitamin C deficient diet to a level when morphological deficiency syndromes appeared. This was compared with a parallel control, fed a complete diet. The study showed a highly significant decrease in iodine uptake by thyroid tissues in vitamin C deficient fish as compared to the controls. However, the blood and other non-thyroid tissues recorded a significant increase in absorption and distribution of iodine. These findings suggested hypofunctioning of thyroid gland due to a prolonged deficiency of vitamin C.  相似文献

The sodium iodide symporter (NIS) has been characterized to mediate the active transport of iodide not only in the thyroid gland but also in various non-thyroidal tissues, including lactating mammary gland and the majority of breast cancers, thereby offering the possibility of diagnostic and therapeutic radioiodine application in breast cancer. In this report, we present a 57-year-old patient with multifocal papillary thyroid carcinoma, who showed focal radioiodine accumulation in a lesion in the right breast on a posttherapy (131)I scan following radioiodine therapy. CT and MR-mammography showed a focal solid lesion in the right breast suggestive of a fibroadenoma, which was confirmed by histological examination. Immunostaining of paraffin-embedded tumor tissue sections using a human NIS antibody demonstrated NIS-specific immunoreactivity confined to epithelial cells of mammary ducts. In conclusion, in a thyroid cancer patient we identified a benign fibroadenoma of the breast expressing high levels of functionally active NIS protein as underlying cause of focal mammary radioiodine accumulation on a posttherapy (131)I scan. These data show for the first time that functional NIS expression is not restricted to lactating mammary gland and malignant breast tissue, but can also be detected in benign breast lesions, such as fibroadenomata of the breast.  相似文献

Slices of dog thyroid gland were incubated with liposomes consisting of (125)I-labelled phosphatidylcholine (the iodine was covalently linked to unsaturated fatty acyl chains). The (125)I label of (125)I-labelled liposomes was incorporated into thyroid protein and/or thyroglobulin at a higher rate than was the (131)I label of either Na(131)I or (131)I(2). The iodine was shown to be protein-bound by the co-migration of the labelled iodine with protein under conditions where free iodine, iodide and lipid-bound iodine were removed from protein. The uptake of iodine from the iodinated phospholipid was probably due to phospholipid exchange between the iodinated liposomes and the thyroid cell membrane, since (a) (14)C-labelled phospholipid was metabolized to (14)CO(2) and (b) many lipids in the tissue slice became (14)C-labelled. A very strong inhibition of iodide ;uptake' from Na(131)I, caused by thiosulphate, produced only a minor inhibition of the incorporation of (125)I from (125)I-labelled liposomes into thyroid protein and/or thyroglobulin. This implies that free iodide may not necessarily be formed from the iodinated phospholipids before their entrance or utilization in the cell. Synthetic polytyrosine polypeptide suspensions showed some iodination by (131)I-labelled liposomes. In tissues with low tyrosine contents, such as liver and kidney, only a trace uptake was observed. Salivary gland showed some uptake. Endoplasmic reticulum of thyroid gland showed a higher iodine uptake than that of the corresponding plasma membranes. These experiments, together with the demonstration of the diet-dependent presence of iodinated phospholipids in dog thyroid, leads us to suggest that iodination of the membrane phospholipids of thyroid cells may be directly or indirectly involved at some stage in the synthesis of thyroglobulin, or exists as a scavenger mechanism, to re-utilize and/or recover released iodine from unstable compounds inside the thyroid cell.  相似文献

A 58-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital complaining of headache, dizziness and intermittent elevation of blood pressure. Multiple café-au-lait spots and neurofibromas had appeared on the back and the limbs since the age of 30 years. At the age of 54 years she underwent total thyroidectomy because of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid gland. On admission, the levels of plasma norepinephrine and epinephrine, urinary norepinephrine and normetanephrine were all within the normal range. However, urinary excretion of metanephrine was markedly increased to 1.49 +/- 0.45 (Mean +/- SD) mg/day and that of epinephrine was also slightly increased. The computed tomographic scans of the abdomen and the scintigraphy with 131I-metaiodobenzylguanidine revealed a tumor mass in the region of the right adrenal gland. The tumor was histologically confirmed to be pheochromocytoma at the operation. In her family history, her mother and one of her two sisters had von Recklinghausen's disease and another sister suffered from follicular carcinoma of the thyroid gland. As far as we know, this paper is the first report of a patient with von Recklinghausen's disease associated with both pheochromocytoma and non-medullary carcinoma of the thyroid gland, and her family.  相似文献

Except from well-known the most frequent reasons of the hyperthyroidism such as the Graves-Basedow disease, multinodular goitre and the autonomous adenoma we should also remember the other rarer illnesses leading to the excess of thyroid hormones in the serum. Authors presented the problem of atypical forms of thyrotoxicosis which run without the overproduction of thyroid hormones and are characterized by low 24 h 131 J uptake by the thyroid gland. So called masks of hyperthyroidism such as apathetic, neuromuscular, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular forms were also discussed in the article.  相似文献

The in vitro uptake of 131I by the thyroid gland was investigated in rats after immobilization stress with special respect to animals lesioned in the septal area. Lesions in a septal area performed 10 days before decreased the iodide accumulation in the thyroid, while stress by immobilization increased it to the control basal value. Repeated immobilization in control rats did not produce any changes in the iodide uptake in vitro. ACTH injected in vivo stimulated the iodide 131I uptake in vitro by thyroid glands of hypophysectomized rats. It is concluded that immobilization stress in rats with septal lesions increases 131I-iodide uptake in vitro and that the increase was probably influenced by both catecholamines and glucocorticoids.  相似文献

After irradiation, two principal mechanisms of cytolytic cell death can be involved: apoptosis and necrosis. By using morphological criteria, cells undergoing apoptosis can be distinguished from cells dying by necrosis. In nuclear medicine 131I is used to ablate thyroid remnants or to treat well differentiated thyroid carcinoma. The aim of study was to describe the progressive morphological thyroid changes induced by a diagnostic and/or therapeutic amounts of 131I in the rat using electron microscopy, in an attempt to determine which is the cell death pathway and to analyse "stunned" thyroid tissue to elucidate this effect. Tissular and ultrastructural examinations show that damages induced by 131I irradiation of the normal thyroid gland are heterogeneous. Thyroid cells die by necrosis after this metabolic irradiation, and no signs of apoptosis were observed by electron microscopy. In the other hand, stunning effect did not seem to impair the effectiveness of 131I treatment.  相似文献

Seasonal reproductive rhythmicity and concomitant thyroid fluctuations have been studied in the female Indian palm squirrel, Funambulus pennanti. The majority of the squirrels enter estrus during March and April when ovarian follicles attain maximum diameter. Ovulation starts in April and continues till June. A large number of degenerating follicles, indicating decline in ovarian functions, is a characteristic feature of the ovary in August. Minimum percent thyroid 131I uptake is recorded during May and June, i.e. at the onset of mating season. In July, which also marked the gestation period in the majority of the squirrels dissected, thyroid activity significantly increases. Gonadal regression begins in August and this is accompanied by corresponding fall in the thyroid 131I uptake. Alterations in thyroid cytoarchitecture during different months of the year are in accordance with the results obtained from radioiodine uptake studies. Fluctuations in thyroid functions during gonadal regression, recrudescence and peak gonadal activity are discussed in the present communication.  相似文献

The biological effect of 131I was studied in sheep kept on a diet deficient in stable iodine. An increased capture and accretion of iodine in the thyroid gland and in the whole body were observed. The disturbances in the structure and function of the thyroid gland, liver and haemopoietic organs were more pronounced in the animals kept on the iodine deficient diet.  相似文献

A study was made of the dynamics of structural, morphological and histological changes in the thyroid gland of Wistar rats subjected to gamma-irradiation (7.5 Gy) and thermal burn (15% of a body surface) and a combined effect of these two factors. Concurrently, an estimation was made of the iodine content of the gland, using the roentgen-fluorescent method, and of the thyroxin concentration in blood. The results obtained were considered in relation to the clinical course and the outcome of the affection caused by the combined and individual effects of radiation and heat. It is conluded that the cell-tissue substrate providing the thyroid hormones synthesis does not undergo substantial variations from normal values which could be considered as a cause of the decrease in the hormone content of blood after burn, irradiation and the combined radiation and thermal injury. Other possible causes of hyperthyroxynemia are discussed.  相似文献

Scanning of the thyroid gland after the administration of radioactive caesium (131Cs) was performed in 45 patients; in 38 of these it had been shown that a thyroid nodule failed to accumulate sodium per-technetate (99mTc) or sodum iodide (131I). 131Cs was concentrated in the nodule to a greater degree than in the paranodular thyroid tissue in seven patients, in five of whom thyroid carcinoma was subsequently identified. In five patients 131Cs accumulated in both the nodule and paranodular tissue, while in the other 26 no 131Cs uptake occurred in the nodule. In only one of the latter group was the thyroid lesion malignant. Caesium scanning seems to offer a useful supplementary procedure in the investigation of thyroid nodules.  相似文献
