In this paper, boselaphine material from several localities in the area of the Hasnot Pakistan, is described, identified, and discussed. Four species that belong to three different genera of the tribe Boselaphini have been found: Selenoportax vexillarius, S. lydekkeri, Pachyportax latidens and Eotragus sp. Eotragus sp. is reported for the first time from the Hasnot and consequently from other Upper Middle Siwalik sediments of Pakistan and equivalent strata of the world, extending the range of the genus from the Lower to the Middle Siwaliks. Reviewing the Siwaliks’ Selenoportax species, S. dhokpathanensis Akhtar and S. tatrotensis Akhtar are synonymized with S. lydekkeri and S. vexillarius, respectively.  相似文献

A taxonomic study of the genus Otoptera (tribe Phaseoleae) is presented. This distinct genus consists of two species, O. burchellii in southern Africa (Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe) and O. madagascariensis endemic to Madagascar. The two species differ in the shape and size of leaflets, size and orientation of the spur located at the base of the wing petal, and also by size of the pod. A key to the two species is provided. This study focuses mainly on the southern African O. burchellii DC., which is described and illustrated. The species name is lectotypified and the known geographical distribution is recorded for the first time.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers are reported for 12 species from nine genera of South African Umbelliferae, of which seven species and one genus (Itasina) are recorded for the first time. A detailed list of all published chromosome counts for southern African species is also presented, together with a review of the literature. The new data obtained are briefly discussed in the context of the taxonomy and relationships of local Umbelliferae. The counts agree with previous reports except that Annesorhiza appears to have 2n = 22, with or without one additional B-chromosome, and not 2n = 24 as reported in the literature. The number for Itasina (2n = 24) is of considerable interest and indicates that a detailed chromosome study of the South African genera Annesorhiza and Chamarea may yield valuable taxonomic information.  相似文献

The presence of cork-warts on foliar lamina was first described at end of the 19th century, and since then these warts have been considered an additional taxonomic character for different taxa. In Celastraceae cork-warts have been reported so far only for the genus Euonymus. The objective of this study was to document the presence and morphology of cork-warts in Celastroideae-Celastraceae. The occurrence of cork-warts was investigated by paradermal and transversal views of the leaf epidermis of 15 species from five genera of the Celastroideae subfamily, using histological techniques and optical and scanning electron microscopy. The structures observed in paradermal view are characterized by suberin-incrusted areas forming layers of juxtaposed rectangular cells that originate through tangential divisions and form concentric structures. These structures were classified as either ordinary or stomatal cork-warts. Cork-warts are reported for the first time on Celastrus, Goniodiscus, Maytenus and Plenckia. Among the studied genera, only Fraunhofera lacked cork-warts.  相似文献

We report here the discovery of madtsoiid snake remains from the early Paleocene Khadro Formation (Ranikot Group, Sindh, Southern Pakistan). These specimens consist of vertebrae and are referred to Gigantophis. This is the first report of Gigantophis from outside of Africa. The problem of the generic distinction between Gigantophis and Madtsoia is stressed. The specimens from Pakistan slightly differ from the single species (Ggarstini) referred to the genus Gigantophis, but the available material does not allow further considerations and the fossil is referred to as Gigantophis sp. However, Gigantophis sp. from the Khadro Formation is more closely related to Ggarstini, that is known only from the middle and late Eocene of northern Africa, than to any other species, thus suggesting dispersal between these two areas during the Paleocene or earlier. These results are consistent with the hypothesis of intermittent dispersals between the Indo-Pakistan Plate and Africa suggested by other fossil evidences.  相似文献

The anamorphic fungal genus Monotosporella (Ascomycota, Sordariomycetes) has been reco-vered from a piece of Early Eocene Indian amber, as well as from the surface of extant resin flows in New Caledonia. The fossil fungus was obtained from the Tarkeshwar Lignite Mine of Gujarat State, western India, and was part of the biota of an early tropical angiosperm rainforest. The amber inclusion represents the second fossil record of Sordariomycetes, as well as the first fossil of its particular order (either Savoryellales or Chaetosphaeriales). The fossil fungus is distinguished from extant representatives by possessing both short conidiophores and small two-septate pyriform conidia, and is described as Monotosporella doerfeltii sp. nov. Inside the amber, the anamorph is attached to its substrate, which is likely the degraded thallus of a cladoniform lichen. The extant New Caledonian species is assigned to Monotosporella setosa. It was found growing on semi-solidified resin flows of Agathis ovata (Araucariaceae), and is the first record of Monotosporella from modern resin substrates.  相似文献

The oribatid mite genus Galumna (Oribatida, Galumnidae) is recorded for the first time in Nepal. A new species, Galumna tetraporosa sp. n., is described from soil of secondary mixed broadleaved forest. It is most similar morphologically to G. tokyoensis Aoki, 1966 and G. valida Aoki, 1994, however, it differs from both by the absence of interlamellar setae and the presence of two pairs of notogastral porose areas Aa. Galumna granalata Aoki, 1984 is redescribed on the basis of specimens from Nepal. Galumna floridae (Jacot, 1929) and G. hexagona Balogh, 1960 are transferred to the genus Notogalumna; G. mauritii Mahunka, 1978 is transferred to the genus Dimidiogalumna.  相似文献

The phylogeny of Celastraceae tribe Euonymeae (∼230 species in eight genera in both the Old and New Worlds) was inferred using morphological characters together with plastid (matK, trnL-F) and nuclear (ITS and 26S rDNA) genes. Tribe Euonymeae has been defined as those genera of Celastraceae with generally opposite leaves, isomerous carpels, loculicidally dehiscent capsules, and arillate seeds (except Microtropis). Euonymus is the most diverse (129 species) and widely cultivated genus in the tribe. We infer that tribe Euonymeae consists of at least six separate lineages within Celastraceae and that a revised natural classification of the family is needed. Microtropis and Quetzalia are inferred to be distinct sister groups that together are sister to Zinowiewia. The endangered Monimopetalum chinense is an isolated and early derived lineage of Celastraceae that represents an important component of phylogenetic diversity within the family. Hedraianthera is sister to Brassiantha, and we describe a second species (Brassiantha hedraiantheroides A.J. Ford) that represents the first reported occurrence of this genus in Australia. Euonymus globularis, from eastern Australia, is sister to Menepetalum, which is endemic to New Caledonia, and we erect a new genus (Dinghoua R.H. Archer) for it. The Madagascan species of Euonymus are sister to Pleurostylia and recognized as a distinct genus (Astrocassine ined.). Glyptopetalum, Torralbasia, and Xylonymus are all closely related to Euonymus sensu stricto and are questionably distinct from it. Current intrageneric classifications of Euonymus are not completely natural and require revision.  相似文献

Most adapiform primates from North America are members of an endemic radiation of notharctines. North American notharctines flourished during the Early and early Middle Eocene, with only two genera persisting into the late Middle Eocene. Here we describe a new genus of adapiform primate from the Devil’s Graveyard Formation of Texas. Mescalerolemur horneri, gen. et sp. nov., is known only from the late Middle Eocene (Uintan) Purple Bench locality. Phylogenetic analyses reveal that Mescalerolemur is more closely related to Eurasian and African adapiforms than to North American notharctines. In this respect, M. horneri is similar to its sister taxon Mahgarita stevensi from the late Duchesnean of the Devil’s Graveyard Formation. The presence of both genera in the Big Bend region of Texas after notharctines had become locally extinct provides further evidence of faunal interchange between North America and East Asia during the middle Eocene. The fact that Mescalerolemur and Mahgarita are both unknown outside of Texas also supports prior hypotheses that low-latitude faunal assemblages in North America demonstrate increased endemism by the late middle Eocene.  相似文献

Afzal, J., Williams, M., Leng, M.J., Aldridge, R.J. & Stephenson, M.H. 2011: Evolution of Paleocene to Early Eocene larger benthic foraminifer assemblages of the Indus Basin, Pakistan. Lethaia, Vol. 44, pp. 299–320. The Paleocene–Early Eocene carbonate successions of the Indus Basin in Pakistan formed on the northwestern continental shelf margin of the Indian Plate in the eastern Tethys Ocean. Based on larger benthic foraminifera (LBF), eight Tethyan foraminiferal biozones (SBZ1–SBZ8) spanning the Paleocene to Early Eocene interval are identified. The base of the Eocene is identified by the first appearance of Alveolina sp. Other stratigraphically important LBFs that are characteristic of the earliest Eocene are Ranikothalia nuttalli, Discocyclina dispansa and Assilina dandotica. Stable isotope analysis through the Paleocene–Eocene (P–E) boundary interval identifies more positive δ13C values for the Late Paleocene (+3.4‰ to +3.0‰) and lower values (+2.7‰ to +1.6‰) for the earliest Eocene. However, there is insufficient sampling resolution to identify the maximum negative δ13C excursion of the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum. During Late Paleocene times LBF assemblages in the Indus Basin were taxonomically close to those of west Tethys, facilitating biostratigraphic correlation. However, this faunal continuity is lost at the P–E boundary and the earliest Eocene succession lacks typical west Tethys Nummulites, while Alveolina are rare; LBFs such as Miscellanea and Ranikothalia continue to dominate in the Indus Basin. The absence of Nummulites from the earliest Eocene of Pakistan and rarity of Alveolina, elsewhere used as the prime marker for the base of the Eocene, may imply biogeographical barriers between east and west Tethys, perhaps caused by the initial stages of India‐Asia collision. Later, at the level of the Eocene SBZ8 Biozone, faunal links were re‐established and many foraminifera with west Tethys affinities appeared in east Tethys, suggesting the barriers to migration ceased. □Biostratigraphy, Eocene, India‐Asia collision, larger benthic foraminifera, palaeoecology, Paleocene.  相似文献

Agria mihalyii (Rohdendorf and Verves, 1978) is recorded from China for the first time, and both sexes are thoroughly documented using a combination of illustrations, photographs and scanning electron microscopy images. The generic affiliation is corroborated from an expanded definition of genus Agria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830, and a key to males of the two known species from China is provided. The distribution of coeloconic sensilla on the male pre- and postgonite are shown to possess significant diagnostic and phylogenetic information in this genus.  相似文献

Eight temperate seagrass species (five in the genus Zostera, two in the genus Phyllospadix, and Ruppia maritima) have been previously reported in coastal waters off the Korean peninsula, which lies between 33°N and 43°N. Recently, a species of Halophila, a genus which occurs predominantly in tropical and subtropical areas, has been observed on the southern coast of Korea for the first time. The species was identified as Halophila nipponica. H. nipponica is distributed in warm temperate regions of Japan influenced by the warm Tsushima Current and was previously unknown outside the Japanese archipelago. Thus, we are able to report a range extension into Korea. The Korean Halophila meadow that we observed covered an area of about 2.1 ha, with average shoot density of about 1300 m−2. We measured morphological features of vegetative and reproductive organs between June and September 2007. Morphological and reproductive features of the Halophila species in Korea were similar to those of the species in Japan. Increased water temperature in the coastal waters of Korea may at least partially account for the persistence of this new population.  相似文献

A new species of scorpion belonging to the genus Auyantepuia González-Sponga, 1978 (family Chactidae Pocock, 1893) is described on the basis of three specimens collected in a rainforest formation located in Saut Sabbat, South of Mana, French Guiana. This is the tenth species of the Guiano-Amazonian genus Auyantepuia, and the fifth reported from French Guiana.  相似文献

Fifteen prenylated or geranylated flavanones and flavanonols were isolated from the leaf extracts of different Glycosmis species collected in Thailand and Malaysia. All structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, especially 1D and 2D NMR. Six compounds were described for the first time and two were only known so far as synthetic products. The chemotaxonomic significance of flavanoid accumulation within the genus Glycosmis is highlighted.  相似文献

Most of the 16 currently recognized astrapothere genera are well known through numerous specimens preserving at least almost complete dentition. One of the exceptions is the enigmatic genus Isolophodon Roth, 1903, based on very scant and fragmentary materials from Paleogene levels of central Patagonia. This taxon was ruled out from almost all taxonomic lists, although its validity has not been discussed by subsequent authors. We herein re-describe and discuss the taxonomic status of the species of Isolophodon. The type species, I. cingulosus Roth, 1903, is characterized by having lower cheek teeth with a much reduced hypoflexid, resembling derived uruguaytheriines, but lower-crowned and with three lower premolars, as in the species of Astraponotus Ameghino, 1901. This is the only astrapothere nominal species attributable to the Tinguirirican South American Land Mammal Age (SALMA, Early Oligocene). Isolophodon aplanatus Roth, 1903 (Casamayoran and Mustersan SALMAs, middle Late Eocene) has proportionally more elongated lower molars and a less developed paraflexid than the type species. Isolophodon would represent an early diverging lineage of astrapotheriids, in which some dental features evolved convergently with the more derived uruguaytheriines. Additionally, we describe other fragmentary but very significant specimens from Paleogene localities in central Patagonia (Argentina) attributable to the following taxa: cf. Scaglia kraglievichorum (Barrancan? subage), based on a partial upper molar nearly 60% larger than the type of Scaglia kraglievichorum Simpson, 1957; Astrapotheriidae gen. et sp. 1 (Barrancan? Subage, Middle Eocene), based on an isolated upper molar larger than any other Eocene astrapothere; Astrapotheriidae gen. et sp. 2, based on five isolated upper cheek teeth from “La Cantera” (Gran Barranca, Early Oligocene), characterized by a large, isolated hypocone and accessory cusps on P3-P4. These taxa enlarge the known diversity of Paleogene astrapotheres and document novel evolutionary patterns for these mammals.  相似文献

The oyster ovarian parasite Marteilioides chungmuensis has been reported from Korea and Japan, damaging the oyster industries. Recently, Marteilioides-like organisms have been identified in other commercially important marine bivalves. In this study, we surveyed Marteilioides infection in the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, Suminoe oyster Crassostrea ariakensis, and Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas, using histology and Marteilioides-specific small subunit (SSU) rDNA PCR. The SSU rDNA sequence of M. chungmuensis (1716 bp) isolated from C. gigas in Tongyoung bay was 99.9% similar to that of M. chungmuensis reported in Japan. Inclusions of multi-nucleated bodies in the oocytes, typical of Marteilioides infection, were identified for the first time in Suminoe oysters. The SSU rDNA sequence of a Marteilioides-like organism isolated from Suminoe oysters was 99.9% similar to that of M. chungmuensis. Marteilioides sp. was also observed from 7 Manila clams of 1840 individuals examined, and the DNA sequences of which were 98.2% similar to the known sequence of M. chungmuensis. Unlike Marteilioides infection of Pacific oysters, no remarkable pathological symptoms, such as large multiple lumps on the mantle, were observed in infected Suminoe oysters or Manila clams. Distribution of the infected Manila clams, Suminoe oysters and Pacific oysters was limited to small bays on the south coast, suggesting that the southern coast is the enzootic area of Marteilioides infection.  相似文献

Juncus setchuensis is a perennial herbaceous plant found in marshes, swamps, and other poorly drained sites. Despite being so abundant in the southwest of China, only one literature reference has reported about its chemical components. The present phytochemical investigation on this plant led to isolations of 13 compounds (including four 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes, one phenanthrene, one flavonone, two mono-aromatics, one steroid, one anthraquinone and three diterpenoid tanshinones), five of them were isolated form this plant for the first time, four of them, one anthraquinone and three diterpenoid tanshinones, were reported for the first time in this genus. The presence of phenanthrenes, 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes in the Juncus genus could be of taxonomic importance.  相似文献

Paktylenchus tuberosus gen.n., sp.n. is described and illustrated from soil around Solanum tuberosum from Kaghan Valley, Pakistan. Paktylenchus gen.n, can be distinguished from the most closely related genus, Agelenchus Andrassy, 1954, by the distinct longitudinal striae, three incisures in the lateral field, and absence of males. Paktylenchus tuberosus shows affinities to Coslenchus Siddiqi, 1978 but differs in having an oblique vagina-to-body axis and a prominent sunken vulva with vulval flaps. Four genera of the subfamily Tylenchinae are also discussed herein.  相似文献
