Marking experiments on perch, Perca fluviatilis L., pike, Esox lucius L., and charr, Salvelinus alpinus L., have been carried out in Windermere. Numbered tags were used for individual identification, except in some short term experiments on charr. A total of 13 182 perch and 4696 pike were tagged; 2066 charr were tagged subcutaneously and marked with a fin clip. In the short-term experiments 2015 charr were marked with a fin clip or punched hole. Perch were recaptured up to 8 years after tagging, pike 12 years and charr 5 years. Estimates of numbers and mortality were not satisfactory, except for limited sections of the populations of pike and charr. The main reasons for the unsatisfactory results were: for perch, unknown mortality at time of tagging; for pike, selectivity of the gillnets and in some years low numbers tagged; for charr, restriction to few spawning sites and in some places low numbers recaptured. The experiments provided useful information on movements and growth, which could not have been obtained in any other way.  相似文献

The study objective was to evaluate the enhanced profitability of monosex all-female stock (MS) culture compared to bisexual stock (BS) of Eurasian perch ( Perca fluviatilis L.) under intensive conditions. Monosex all-female stock was produced by mating masculinized females (neomales) with common females of a local strain; the bisexual stock was obtained from a local strain perch broodstock. Preceded by pond-nursing (60 days) and habituating (14 days) periods, the experiment lasted 126 days. Perch were held in six 50-L aquaria connected to a recirculation system, with each group tested in triplicate. No significant differences (P = 0.07) in total survival were observed between all-female and bisexual stock after 126 days of rearing, but MS gained 20% more (P = 0.04) in total body weight (final weight 25.2 ± 9.7 g; mean ± SD) than BS fish (21.0 ± 7.5 g). It is suggested that the culture of monosex female perch might therefore be of significant economic benefit. Overall feed conversion ratio for tanks with BS (1.43 ± 0.21) was significantly (P = 0.02) higher than in tanks with MS (1.30 ± 0.11) perch.  相似文献

The Eurasian perch, Perca fluviatilis L., has good potential as a candidate for inland aquaculture diversification in Europe. To aid the development of this new product, we define a quality reference based on attributes of wild perch, and compare the quality of perch reared in three different culture systems: (1) extensive (pond), (2) semi‐extensive (tank) and (3) intensive (re‐circulation system). In order to define a precise quality reference, it is necessary to characterize the spatial and seasonal variability in quality attributes of wild fish. To do so, wild perch were harvested every three month for a full biological cycle from two different natural systems (Lake Geneva in France and the River Rhine in the Netherlands). Two components of quality were taken into account: organoleptical (colour of skin and fillets (L*C*H° system; 12 variables), seven morphological measurements) and six technological components (viscero, hepato and gonadosomatic index, perivisceral fat index, fillet yield and condition factor K2). Using Principal Component Analysis, we show that within‐season variability is high, particularly for Rhine perch. Perch from the Rhine have a compact body and caudal fin, and possess a longer mouth and head than perch from Lake Genva. Reared fish possess wild‐like characteristics except for technological variables. Fish from extensive and semi‐extensive system show similar attributes, while fish from intensive rearing systems show a higher viscerosomatic and perivisceral fat index.  相似文献

Heated and ambient temperature experimental ponds were used to examine competition between introduced pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus and native perch Perca fluviatilis in England, U.K., and how these interactions are likely to change under climate warming conditions. Results from three sets of two-week experiments indicated that in both species and in all sets, growth was faster in heated than in ambient temperature ponds. Growth of both P. fluviatilis and L. gibbosus in sympatry did not differ significantly from that observed in allopatric ponds. Diet analysis indicated that increased resource partitioning occurred when P. fluviatilis and L. gibbosus were reared in sympatry, with P. fluviatilis shifting to a diet higher in microcrustaceans. The results do not support the previous claims of adverse effects of L. gibbosus on P. fluviatilis populations. Under conditions of climate change, however, which have been demonstrated experimentally to enhance L. gibbosus recruitment, this species is expected to become invasive in England, resulting in higher densities that may exert a stronger competitive effect than examined in this study.  相似文献

Four small, acidified boreal lakes, all sustaining populations of perch Perca fluviatilis, roach Rutilus rutilus and pike Esox lucius, were studied in four successive years. Three lakes were moderately acidified (mean pH of 5·61-5·83), while the fourth was more acidic (mean pH of 5·16) and had a sparse population of R. rutilus. Perca fluviatilis density was higher in this lake (1004 ha(-1)) than in the other three (355-717 ha(-1)), where R. rutilus dominated in terms of numbers (981-2185 ha(-1)). Large, potentially predatory, P. fluviatilis were most abundant in the lake with clearest water, and these seemed to have a negative effect on P. fluviatilis density. Perca fluviatilis mean mass was negatively correlated with R. rutilus biomass and was highest in the most acidic lake with the sparse R. rutilus and the highest P. fluviatilis density. Perca fluviatilis mass correlated positively with pH in two lakes (with the highest fish biomass), suggesting that low pH affected P. fluviatilis mass negatively. Perca fluviatilis growth correlated positively with summer (July to August) air temperature in the lake with sparse R. rutilus, thus differing from P. fluviatilis and R. rutilus growth in the other three lakes. The mean age of P. fluviatilis was generally lower than that of R. rutilus and was lowest in the two lakes with the highest fish biomass, indicating that adult mortality was affected by density-induced factors.  相似文献

Component communities of perch (Perca fluviatilis L) in Eurasia and the North American yellow perch (Perca flavescens Mitchill) were examined to determine the nature of their parasite communities. The scale of this investigation is continental and includes data collected across the distribution of each host species. Data were compiled from the literature and from 5 sample sites in North America. Four parasite species were found to occur frequently in the helminth component communities of P. flavescens. The cestodes Bothriocephalus cuspidatus and Proteocephalus pearsei, the digenean Crepidostomum cooperi, and the nematode Dichelyne cotylophora comprised a suite of species of which some or all occurred in most samples. Similarly, a group of 4 predictable parasite species was identified for P. fluviatilis in Eurasia, the digenean Bunodera luciopercae, the nematode Camallanus lacustris, the cestode Proteocephalus percae, and the acanthocephalan Acanthocephalus lucii. Specificity was not a requirement for predictability. Despite geographical isolation for millions of years, and different fish species interactions within and between continents, the predictability of these parasite assemblages indicates they are shaped by a biology, especially feeding patterns, common to both perch species. This is evidence that parasite assemblages comprised of nonhost-specific parasites in freshwater fishes are not merely stochastic assemblages but have key components that are predictable at this broad continental scale.  相似文献

Results of the parasitological investigation of two species of perch fisches (perch Perca fluviatilis and ruff Gymnocephalus cernuus) from Kola Region are given. 63 species of parasites were found on perch in 16 waterbodies belonging to the White Sea and Barents Sea basins (Myxosporea--3, Pleurostomata--1, Suctoria--2, Peritricha--21, Protozoa incertae sedis--1, Monogenea--2, Cestoda--6, Trematoda--10, Nemadota--8, Acanthocephala--4, Hirudinea--1, Bivalvia--1, Crustacea--3). 33 species of parasites were found on ruff in 5 waterbodies belonging to the White Sea basin (Cyrtostomata--1, Hymenostomata--1, Peritricha--8, Monogenea--2, Cestoda--6, Trematoda--9, Nematoda--2, Acanthospehala--2, Bivalvia--1, Crustacea--1). Data on the infestation of perch and ruff by different parasite species are obtained, occurrence of the parasites in the examined waterbodies is shown.  相似文献

The macro-pathological impact of plerocercoid infection of perch Perca fluviatilis livers was quantitatively determined by an index of liver lesion ( I LL) in fish from Upper Lake Constance (ULC). These results were compared to the I LL values of perch from two other lakes. From February to November 1999, 2071 perch were examined from the three sites. Prevalence of infection in ULC was 13% in actively growing first year (0+ year) perch and 94% in older fish, whereas in the two lakes used for comparison the figures for 0+ year perch were 12 and 20%, and in older fish 62 and 60%, respectively. Infected livers from perch caught in ULC revealed significantly higher I LL values than those of fish from the other two lakes. Perch livers from ULC containing more than three Triaenophorus nodulosus larvae also showed significantly more serious pathological alterations than uninfected livers or those with normal infection levels of one to three T. nodulosus . In all three lakes, excluding heavily infected perch from ULC, 0+ year perch livers revealed little or no damage, whereas in livers of older perch pathological alterations were apparent. In addition, analysis of age and total length data showed that perch infected with one to three parasites in ULC grew significantly slower than uninfected ones, and severely infected perch (greater than three parasites) grew significantly slower than those with a normal parasite load. With respect to mass, growth of ULC fish suffering normal infection (49% of all adults) was reduced by 9% and in those with severe infections (45% of all adults) growth was 16% below expected at normal harvesting age.  相似文献

Five-hundred and fifty-nine perch ( Perca fluviatilis L.) were examined from Llyn Tegid between January 1975-July 1976 for protozoan and metazoan parasites. Sixteen species of parasites were recorded, and these results were compared to previous studies at Llyn Tegid, and elsewhere in the British Isles. It was concluded that the parasite fauna of perch is influenced by the diversity and abundance of the local aquatic invertebrate fauna, the local ichthyofauna, the local piscivorous avian fauna and the history and geographic isolation of the environment. The importance of a large series of observations on a variety of habitats was stressed.  相似文献

The theoretical limits of net reproduction rates for perch, Perca fluviatilis L. and pike, Esox lucius L, have been estimated from the upper and lower limits of fecundity, growth, mortality, age of maturity and biomass of parental stock, observed in Windermere over 40 years. Differences in egg numbers due to changes in fecundity were for perch × 1.5, for pike × 2. Assuming the same mortality, a fast growing cohort would produce more eggs during its lifespan than a slow growing, for perch × 2, for pike × 9. Changes in mortality from high to low resulted in more eggs, for perch × 7, and for pike (where high mortality includes natural and fishing mortality) × 10. Change in age at first maturity from 3 to 2 years was unimportant. Biomass of parental stock varied by × 6 for perch and × 3 for pike, and number of eggs laid varied by x2 for perch and × 5 for pike. The number of recruits at age 2 years varied by × 300 for perch and × 7 for pike. It was concluded that temperature in the first summer of life and predation were of major importance in regulating the number of recruits. Ricker recruitment curves and a simple model showed that perch, but not pike, could produce maximum recruitment from minimum parental stock. For perch, but not pike, compensatory density dependent mortality increased with increased parental stock. It was concluded that responses by the perch and pike populations to a changing environment can not be of sufficient magnitude to prevent wide fluctuations in recruitment.  相似文献

Mortality of small (60–100 mm total length) perch Perca fluviatilis after marking with coded wire tags in relation to water temperature (6·9, 14·2, 17·8 and 22·6° C) was experimentally tested and exclusively occurred within the first day of the experiments. Moreover, mortality rates were generally low with a maximum of 4%. No increased mortality at higher water temperatures was observed.  相似文献

Perch Perca fluviatilis recruitment (based on the catch per unit effort, CPUE, of 2 or 3 year male perch) varied greatly from 1941 to 1995 in Windermere, U.K., with year class strengths strongly synchronous between the two basins of this temperate, mesotrophic lake. Statistically significant modified Ricker (Saila‐Lorda) stock‐recruitment curves could be fitted to data from three of four sampling sites, while the presence of widespread disease and late summer water temperature were also important explanatory variables. Multiple‐regression analyses revealed no influences of pike Esox lucius recruitment, zooplankton abundance, or the climatic influences ( i.e . North Atlantic Oscillation and displacement of the summer position of the Gulf Stream) on perch recruitment over and above associated influences from temperature. Fitted models realistically explained up to c . 60% of the observed variation in perch recruitment.  相似文献

The prevalence and intensity of the hematophagous pennellid copepod Haemobaphes diceraus were monitored over a 10-mo period in shiner perch Cymatogaster aggregata at Pipers Lagoon, Nanaimo, British Columbia. The prevalence and mean intensity of metamorphosed adult female H. diceraus (n = 421) were 10.0% and 1.2 (+/-0.5 SD), respectively. The majority (97.9%) of infected fish had single infections, reflecting the possibility of intensity-dependent parasite-induced mortality, rejection of additional parasites, or both. Transforming females were detected throughout the year; however, there was no detectable seasonal pattern of colonization. Neither copepodids nor adult males of H. diceraus were observed on the gills of shiner perch, and this was consistent with the hypothesis that an intermediate host harbors these stages. Males of Haemobaphes sp. infected the gills of bay pipefish Syngnathus griseolineatus with a prevalence and mean intensity of 56.0% and 6.8 +/- 3.7, respectively. Transmission of H. diceraus to shiner perch probably occurs in inshore protected areas, where shiner perch ecologically overlap with the probable intermediate host of H. diceraus, the bay pipefish.  相似文献

A survey was made of the parasites of 603 roach Rutilus rutilus (L.), 15 bream Abramis brama (L.), 201 perch Perca fluviatilis L., 30 pike Esox lucius L. and four eels Anguilla anguilla (L.) caught in the Shropshire Union Canal at Backford, Cheshire from December 1964 to August 1966. Twenty-seven species of parasites were found, 17 in roach, seven in bream, ten in perch, ten in pike and two in the eel. Two species of Protozoa, seven species of Monogenea, five species of Digenea, six species of Cestoda, two species of Nematoda, one species of Acanthocephala, two species of Hirudinea, one species of Crustacea and mollusc glochidia were recorded. The following parasites are believed to be new records for the British Isles: Henneguya oviperda (Cohn, 1895), Dactylogyrus suecicus Nybelin, 1936, D. wunderi Bykhovskii, 1931, Asymphylodora kubanicum (Isaichikov, 1923), and Philometra rischta Skryabin, 1917.
One table shows the species of parasites found, together with data on the site of occurrence in the host, and the percentage and intensity of infection of the fish. A second table compares the occurrence of the parasites in four other localities in the British Isles, Loch Lomond Scotland, Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), Merionethshire, Rostherne Mere, Cheshire and the River Lugg, Herefordshire. A further column gives the normal hosts in the U.S.S.R.
A limited comparison is made of the numerical occurrence of six species of parasites in the canal, Llyn Tegid and Druzno Lake, Poland. It is concluded that unless relatively large samples of fish of all length groups are collected on a regular basis throughout the year such comparisons will have little meaning.
The concept of the characterization of parasite faunas is briefly noted. It is suggested that the high degree of host specificity shown by many of the species of parasites is evidence in support of the concept.  相似文献

Larval helminths often share intermediate hosts with other individuals of the same or different species. Competition for resources and/or conflicts over transmission routes are likely to influence both the association patterns between species and the life history strategies of each individual. Parasites sharing common intermediate hosts may have evolved ways to avoid or associate with other species depending on their definitive host. If not, individual parasites could develop alternative life history strategies in response to association with particular species. Three sympatric species of helminths exploit the amphipod Paracalliope fluviatilis as an intermediate host in New Zealand: the acanthocephalan Acanthocephalus galaxii, the trematode Microphallus sp. and the progenetic trematode Coitocaecum parvum. Adult A. galaxii and C. parvum are both fish parasites whereas Microphallus sp. infects birds. We found no association, either positive or negative, among the three parasite species. The effects of intra- and interspecific interactions were also measured in the trematode C. parvum. Both intra- and interspecific competition seemed to affect both the life history strategy and the size and fecundity of C. parvum. Firstly, the proportion of progenesis was higher in metacercariae sharing their host with Microphallus sp., the bird parasite, than in any other situation. Second, the intensity of intraspecific competition apparently constrained the ability of metacercariae to adopt progenesis and limited both the growth and egg production of progenetic individuals. These results show that the life history strategy adopted by a parasite may be influenced by other parasites sharing the same host.  相似文献

Three bacteria, Alcaligenes faecalis , Flavobacterium sp., and Providencia vermicola , were isolated from dauer juveniles of Rhabditis blumi . The pathogenic effects of the bacteria against 4th instar larvae of Galleria mellonella were investigated. Providencia vermicola and Flavobacterium sp. showed 100% mortality at 48?h after haemocoelic injection, whereas A. faecalis showed less than 30% mortality. Dauer juveniles showed 100% mortality against G. mellonella larvae, whereas axenic juveniles, which do not harbor associated bacteria, exhibited little mortality. All of the associated bacteria were used as a food source for nematode growth, and nematode yield differed with bacterial species. Among the bacterial species, P.?vermicola was most valued for nematode yield, showing the highest yield of 5.2?× 10(4) nematodes/mL in the plate. In bacterial cocultures using two of the three associated bacteria, one kind stimulated the other. The highest total bacterial yield of 12.6?g/L was obtained when the inoculum ratio of P. vermicola to A. faecalis was 10:1. In air-lift bioreactors, the nematode growth rate increased with an increasing level of dissolved oxygen. The maximum nematode yield of 1.75?× 10(5)?nematodes/mL was obtained at 192?h with an aeration rate of 6 vvm.  相似文献

A total of 1255 roach Rutilus rutilus (L.) and 866 perch Perca fluviatilis (L.) from four interconnected lakes in Central Finland differing in trophic status and pollution level were studied for parasitic ergasilid copepods between August 1985 and December 1988. In addition, 109 whitefish ( Coregonus sp.) were studied from one of the lakes.
Four ergasilid species were found: (the prevalence and intensity/fish, respectively, for the whole material are given in parentheses) Ergasilus briani (16·9%, 0·5), Neoergasilus japonicus (15·6%, 0·4) and Paraergasilus longidigitus (2·1%, 0·02) on the roach and Ergasilus sieboldi (9·9%, 0·1) and P. longidigitus (4·9%, 0·05) on the perch. Logit analysis was used to assess the significance of the year, the lake and the season for the prevalence of infection. Generally, the prevalence of E. briani on roach depended on the season only, with higher prevalences in summer. That of E. sieboldi on perch was mainly dependent on the lake, being most frequent in the oligotrophic lake. Both lake, year and season affected the prevalence of N. japonicus in roach. The more complicated system for N. japonicus was explained by the long duration of its free-living stage, its loose attachment and different location on the host, being found on the fins whereas E. briani and E. sieboldi were on the gills.
All species were found throughout the year, and age had no clear influence on infection. The occurrence of egg-sacs and length distributions of the copepods suggest that there are two generations a year, e.g. an overwintering E. briani generation which produces offspring in June to attack the fish in July, and a second generation which attacks the fish from August onwards. Whitefish were not infected by these parasites, only one fish being found which carried a single individual of E. sieboldi.  相似文献

Aims: To assess the effects of bacterial treatment at the earliest stages of cod rearing on the microbial load, larval development and performance, testing three bacterial strains (Carnobacterium divergens V41, Arthrobacter sp. and Enterococcus sp.) in vivo that were previously shown to have inhibitory potential towards fish pathogens in vitro. Methods and Results: A bacterial mixture was added eight times to the rearing water from the prehatch to the mid‐larval stage (a 38‐day period). Microbiological analysis of ova, larvae and rearing water was performed regularly. Larval performance and development were evaluated by survival rate, hypersalinity tolerance and physiological measurements. Different larval survival rates were observed within and between treatments, and possibly explained by variations in larval microflora and established probionts. Larvae from one silo, which had been bathed in the bacterial suspension, showed the highest survival rate (42·1%), lowest Vibrio levels, and were significantly heavier (19·3%) and more stress tolerant than control larvae (P < 0·01). This coincided with the intestinal establishment of two of the tested bacteria. Conclusions: Arthrobacter and Enterococcus strains added regularly to the rearing water from the postfertilized egg stage can become established in larval gastrointestinal tract. The Enterococcus strain was associated with increased larval growth, performance and microflora control, indicating its probiotic nature. Significance and Impact of the Study: Regular application of autochthonous probionts may promote larval welfare, development and stress tolerance at early stages, hence increasing production yield in intensive cod larviculture.  相似文献

Tuna (Thunnus spp.) has been characterized by long distance migrations, highly predatory behavior and longevity, all of which in turn, enable infections with a wide spectrum of different parasitic groups, reflecting in a remarkable diversity of tuna parasite communities. Since 2003, we have been monitoring parasite communities of Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) that are caught from the wild and transferred into cages during spring-summer months, as well as assemblages in fish that exit rearing cycle during the winter harvest period after 1.5 years. Interestingly in reared tuna, parasitic populations exhibit a significant decreasing trend at the end of the rearing cycle, rarely observed in other intensive productions that represent a suitable environment for the emergence, establishment and transmission of pathogens. In order to assess epizootiological behavior of tuna parasites assemblages at the beginning (B group) and at the end (A group) of 1.5 year rearing cycle, we examined data on parasite prevalence and abundance over 4 years. The aim was to evaluate parasite diversity indices and emerging differences between newly caught and harvested fish, as well as community compositions and their nestedness in respect to the event in the rearing cycle (capture or harvest time). In order to be able to predict classification of tuna in two categories (newly caught or heavily infected and harvested or less infected fish), based on empirical didymozoids abundances and year of sampling, we built a decision tree model. Results suggest that specificities of parasite assemblages and their dynamics in tuna before and after farming have no similar precedents in aquaculture. A trend of parasitic pauperization repeating in each rearing cycle over four-years time, in once diverse and species rich parasite communities is observed, however, structures of both B and A group rearing assemblages remain nested, with the same species being core parasites (Didymosulcus katsuwonicola and Koellikerioides intestinalis). The B group exhibited significantly higher total parasite richness and mean parasites abundance, as well as the heteroxenous species richness and abundance in comparison to A group, where monoxenous species were not recorded at all. Eleven parasite species out of 26 taxa were selected as important in discriminating between B and A groups' parasites assemblages, while significantly the most abundant in B group were D. katsuwonicola, Platocystis alalongae, K. intestinalis, Koellikerioides internogastricus, Didymocystis abdominalis and Anisakis sp. It is hard to postulate the combination of factors affecting these parasite populations, but environmental, anthropogenic or host intrinsic influence has to be taken into account for further investigation.  相似文献
